    Lets go!!

I have played all the primaries except BA and the new Kinetic Melee, so which to roll first...

Which goes better with SR? (the only secondary I haven't played into the 40's)

    My SS/FA brute

OK, I looked at your build and did some modifications. I did drop Weave since you aren't stacking it with anything else and changed a lot of slotting to help recovery. I left your purples in place.

No, Fire Brutes are not supposed to die a lot. I always look at RotP as a power I can skip or through in at 49. It is definitely not a required power and you can build FA where it doesn't die a lot.

    That's awesome!

I was under the impression you had to switch sides. I really didn't want to switch him anyway, so that works out great for me.
  5. I have 2 villains I plan on taking blue.

FM/DA Brute so I can get the Tanker APP's and a Stalker I made a couple months that was meant to be a Hero.

I may take some of my Heroes redside, but I don't play them very often so we will see.
  6. Stalker builds are very tight early on since you really need to take AS, Buildup, and Placate at 6 8 and 12. It doesn't leave a lot of room to squeeze in things like extra attacks or travel powers. I have one stalker, Elec/EA, and I made him after Ninja Run came out. That one power let me skip a travel power and I was able to make a build I enjoyed playing.
  7. Healing Flames is % heal, but I could be wrong. I am sure someone will come around and give some more info.
  8. Gruumch

    Stone/WP

I generally skip Hurl Boulder in SM and Resurgence in WP.

I also take Tough/Weave as well.

Here is how I slot Fault also:
    Stupefy: Acc/Recharge
    Stupefy: End/Stun
    Razzle Dazzle: Acc/Recharge
    Razzle Dazzle: Acc/Stun/Recharge
    Force Feedback: Chance for +recharge
Explosive Strike: Chance for Smashing Damage

set bonuses gained: 2.5% recovery from Stupefy and 2% recovery form Razzle Dazzle.

This slotting has always worked well for me and the procs help a lot. There is also the Perfect Zinger proc you could slot in there for a little more damage, but you would have to lose one of the set bonuses which on a WP would be OK.
  9. Gruumch

    Stone/WP

I have one of these as a Tanker and have played both sets to 50 on brutes separately. The combo on my tank is great and it should be just as awesome on a brute.

You will need Stamina in addition to Quick Recovery, SM uses that much endurance. Also, don't skip Fault. Isn't doesn't do damage, but is is just a great power
(you can add procs to it to make it do damage though)
  10. I normally don't go for +def on FA. You don't have much to stack it with, so I instead go for +recharge, +HP, and +regen in that order. By slotting for that Healing Flames is up a lot more often and the +HP makes it heal for more. I have an Elec/FA and run him at +1/x8 with out any problem.
  11. I saw this and was very happy. I have already made plans to take my Fire/Dark Brute to hero so I can take advantage of this.

And with the merged markets maybe I can finally get the IO's I have been needing without having to spend billions.
  12. Can you post your build so I can look at it? I have an Elec/Fire myself and generally don't have any problem running 0/x8 with him against most enemy groups.

On mine I skipped Weave and went for +recharge and +health on IO's. I also went Mu to make Burn more useful. /FA is a squishy set on Brutes and you have to pay close attention to your health bar and you want Healing Flames to be up when you need it.

    http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=228798

There is a thread I commented on not too long ago with some build examples. Take a look at those and see how you like them.
  14. DA is a lot like Energy Aura when it comes to rep. Both sets are perceived to be subpar until you start adding IO's. Once you get endurance under control with DA it does become a very good set, but it is not easy mode like WP. You do have to think to play it well. I have a lot of brutes at 50, so I can tell you that DA performs just as well as most of the other secondaries. The only 2 I can't compare it to are SR and Shield which I haven't taken to 50 yet.

I do like playing my FM/DA brute a lot. Is he my favorite? No, that would be me Energy Aura.

I have one of these at level 46.

From Dual Blades I took 6 powers so I could use the combo's Attack Vitals and Sweep(Power Slice, Ablating Strike, Typhoons' Edge, Vengeful Slice, Sweeping Strike, and One Thousand Cuts). This gives you 2 good combos that have pretty decent AoE.

From Invuln I took everything except Unstoppable( I just don't like the crash on it) in addition to Tough and Weave.

I have enjoyed this char and normally run at +1/x8 except when I am fighting Arachnos. I have to tone it down on them due to all the toxic/psi they throw out.

    Stone/Fire

Here is a build I have put together for myself, but haven't gotten around to making it yet. It concentrates on +recharge, +recovery and +hit points. I placed the Force Feedback proc in Fault and if it goes off regularly you will have perma hasten. On paper the build looks good and should be a heck of a farming build.

set bonuses gained: 2.5% recovery from Stupefy and 2% recovery form Razzle Dazzle.

This slotting has always worked well for me and the procs help a lot. There is also the Perfect Zinger proc you could slot in there for a little more damage, but you would have to lose one of the set bonuses.
  19. Just a few minor tweaks to add teleport and swift. I did drop static discharge since it is a long cone and I always find it annoying to have to move back away from mobs that are clustered around you to get the best use out of it.

  20. I think you are going to be spending a lot of time eating carpet with this build. I am going to assume that you want to be in granite most of the time since you skipped crystal and brimstone. With that assumption you need to slot granite for resist also so you can get smash/lethal to 90%. This is one of the most important things for a stoners survivability. Also, you aren't going to be able to move around very well unless you have a kin in your pocket, swift helps this as well as teleport. CJ and hurdle are absolutely useless for you.

As far as slotting IO's you should try to overcome granites penalties first and slot for run speed, damage and recharge. I did them in that order and also added +health and +regen where I could get it.

There are some good guides over in the tanker section to read. Look for the ones by Roxstar and EsoKujo, both are excellent even though the predate IO's. Another good guide is by GrudgeRockhorn which does cover IO's.

So, i'm guessing that ATs will switch if they were to as so:

    Blaster - Corrupter
    Controller - Dominator
    Defender - Mastermind
    Scrapper - Stalker
    Tanker - Brute

I know that the whole scrapper and tanker part is most likely correct, but I am unsure about defenders, corrupters, masterminds, and blasters. If you know what the correct equivalents are, please post a reply.
People have been trying to fit the square pegs in the round holes since CoV came out. Try to accept that the AT's are just different and move on. CoV AT's are hybrids that can fill more than one role and the CoH AT's are specialists.
  22. The second build is better than the first, but could still use some improvement.
I will stick with SO's/Common IO's since you don't have any IO sets listed, but your this brute benefits greatly from IO Sets.

I would drop one slot form stone skin, 2 res_damage is plenty here(use 2 level 50 common IO's)

I did not take hasten on mine since endurance was a problem before I IO'ed him and if you don't plan on living in Granite you won't miss it.

You need a end_redux in rooted, use the one from stone skin.

Drop Brimstone Armor completely, fire/ice isn't that common.

Replace one end_redux in Mudpots with an Accuracy.

    I would reduce Minerals to a just 2 slots, a end_redux and a def_buff

Granite needs some end redux, replace one of the def_buffs

Soul Mastery is a good patron pool but without IO sets you are already going to be having endurance issues. Darkest night isn't going to help that.

Instead of a Patron Pool you could take Fighting for Tough and get your S/L resist to max.

Also you need to 6 slot all your attacks. 2acc, 1end_redux, and 2recharge. Don't worry about damage that is what fury is for.

But, probably the best advice is to look into IO sets, they will benefit this uild a whole lot.
  23. Gruumch

    You Pick 2

I would take Gash and Swoop. Since you didn't list Beheader I am assuming you took it, so I would skip Chop for the 2 heavier hitting attacks. There is very little difference between Chop and Gash, so either will work. One has a faster recharge and less damage then the other.
  24. I have one at 50 and I slotted him to max out recharge first. You gain a lot from more recharge with LR on such a long timer as well as bringing healing flames back as fast as you can. I don't have a build handy at the moment, but go for recharge then +hp and regen. I think I managed to get my defense up to around 20% or so but didn't try to soft cap, so I depend on healing flames to be up when I need it.
