Ok thanks for trying to explain why it could be hard to implement walking. One thing is clear though. It can be done if the animation engine is correctly coded for it and capable of doing the necessary things. It would probably require additional calculation power.
But we don't know what they did to make this game work in the first place and how hard it would be to modify the engine to make it look right. The fact that despite many requests to do it, it has not been done already tells us something.
Either it is doable but not high enough on the developers list or it is rather difficult to implement and therefore resources are best spend elsewhere.
All we can do is make sure that the developers know that such a thing would be appreciated and let them decide what to do with that information. -
I am getting curious now. How is the animation of the running models? Does that differ per individual character model or is it always basicly the same?
I am wondering how much more difficult would it be to make a walking toon whoms leglength can be altered instead of a running one? -
/Merry Christmas Forgotten Guys. May you be with us next year when we will start to whine again!

he knows how hard apparently simple things can be.

That made me giggle, and I could do with a giggle.
That has to be the best summation of what an experienced programmer is - EVER!

Ain't that the truth! Never done animations but the fun you can have with a customer who suddenly says: Hmm, wouldn't it be neat if....... when you are about ready to go Beta with your program. Fun fun fun and sleepless nights when the account manager thinks that whatever the customer wants he should get.
Of course:
It would be neat if we got a walk mode!

Hmm, using the midnight club approach might work yes.
How would you like to have tailors that could make some pieces of clothing but not everything?
For example Cimeroran could make the Roman clothing including proper Roman Civilian clothing but not much else. As yes spandex and hi tech armor is beyond their capabilities. Though I am sure they could cobble something up that would have a similar look if they want.
The normal tailors would struggle to get the Roman stuff right.
The tailor in Pocket D could do winter and valentine event clothing cheaper then a normal tailor would.
We could have different tailors for the special ad on packs. Like the bridal shop or the meat doctor for the cyborg pieces. -
So long as we don't get merged with the US Servers I think it is better to use a separate EU forum. After all, we have 3 languages here and the versions of our games are not exactly the same to the US versions (a thing GR said awhile ago).
But it would be nice if the Red Names visited this place more often. -
Before i13 we got the recipes and the enhancements. We already got our due reward.

Interesting story and it shows that i am blind as a bat for clues.
Btw I think that DnD 4th edition would make an excellent engine for a superhero game. I am still planning to use it for a CoH inspired campaign. After I wrap up My WfrP game. -
Well I have been in a lot of Unique itf's then. Since i never noticed or heard that Deadalous is Positron. Interesting.

I tend to play on Union more often then on Defiant. But right now two of the characters I like to play are on Defiant.
I use Zukunft and Vigilance to test new concepts but those chars almost never reach their teens. With one exception who is in the mid twenties now. Either I will level her up over there or bring her over to Union. -
Totally agree with Scarlet here. Bring back the challenge! But please don't throw in more EB's and the like. Mobs should be nasty enough without the need to use EB's to make heroes and villains move carefully.

What better place to get your roman suit of armor then from the source itself?
Cim makes an obvious place for a good tailor. -

In the Arachn'Oz' stories, you'd only ever be able to follow the Yellow Line to get around ;o)

You mean the golden brickers line? -
Well I ran out of slots as well!!! Good idea.
It's that or learn french and german. Anyone got a good french training book?

Should it be allowed? What is not forbidden is permitted, so clearly it's ok to do - but having looked at most of the replies I'd say most responders are at the very least, uncomfortable with it.
[/ QUOTE ]
To be perfectly honest, I don't really care if people feel uncomfortable about it. I'm looking for someone to provide a service. When someone does, there need not be anymore talk about it. If you don't like it, just completely ignore this post and pretend it doesn't exist.
As I stated in the first post, I'm perfectly within my rights to do what I'm doing. I've given a reason for doing it, and I don't need to explain myself anymore.
Just a side note, this isn't an attack on your or anything Scarlet, its to everyone that feels the need to try and tell me what I am doing is so horribly wrong.
[/ QUOTE ]
It's not forbidden (yet) so you are in your full rights to do this. No argument there. You pay for the game you decide how to play it.
But we ARE on a gliding scale here. If this is allowed, why not the use of Pro Life farmers? Why not allow the use of bots? Is there really that much difference between paying 100 mil inf or say a few Euro? -
VEATS - Love em
More character slots - Always need more
The whole Midnight thing including ITF. - Most favorite TF ever. -

Normal sized statues should be much easier to implement. after all we do have the engine to do just that. Just check the tailor for example.

I am dubious about the "easy" ability to turn a "toon" into a statue. Even in Warhammeronline, they didn't do statues like that. See >HERE<
I draw your attention to exibit (a):
[ QUOTE ]
art was commissioned for statues of every class in game in both male and female varieties (where applicable). With plan in hand, the artists went to work and created some great statues that look very much at home in the cities.
[/ QUOTE ]
With less variable character "looks", it seems relatively easy to make statues.
My guess is that in CoH the way to do it might be replicate your toon, meaning your character's body, with all it's dimension changes and all of your costume pieces and make them all the same shade of grey.
Technically doable, particularly at small scale but as you say above - very very difficult to make into a huge statue as pixellation would probably occur at the larger scale. To accomplish large statues you would have to rebuild every costume part in the game at an enormous size.
Just a guess, though, I know nothing about it really.
[/ QUOTE ]
The WAR statues are like the great statues we have in the city. Those require attention of course. With normal sized statues they could use the normal engine to create characters instead for making these statues. Just make sure that the textures are all granite and they don't move.
A good example how this might look is what you see in the Midnight club. If you have done Darrin Wades arc you know what I mean. -
Seasonal Happiness for everybody!
May the white bearded fellow in his red robes bless whatever thing you intend to do during these days. So long as it doesn't involve beating me upBecause I intend on succeeding with some heists so I can play Santa Closure myself.
That's the problem with thugs. They have families and guess what, families want presents and who are they expecting to coff up the inf to get those pressies? You got it. I could say bah humbug but then they will be unhappy employers who might get distracted next time I need em. So instead of a holiday I got to work. I am Scrooged. -
There is a big difference between giant statues and hero statues normal sized.
Normal sized statues should be much easier to implement. after all we do have the engine to do just that. Just check the tailor for example. -

Has been done on the US forums before these and the Developers haven't said anything against it GrinningSpade. Therefore, I don't see where the problem lays.
Personally, I don't have anything against it, but at the moment, I wouldn't partake of it. As much of a grind as the road to 50 is getting after I've managed to level 13 toons/goons to level 50, I'd still like to see how the powers develop for new alts, even if the story arcs on both sides are getting a bit stale.
[/ QUOTE ]
I know that the Developers haven't spoken against it. I know it is not forbidden. Despite all that. I still think it is a bit pathetic to make use of such a service. Plus I still think this is not the place to advertise such a service.
By all means, let the devs make a special forum for trading influence and while they are at it. Let them put ads on that threat for pro leveling farmer services if they like. Maybe it brings in extra revenue who knows. -
Yup, don't see much difficulty here for implementing this. its basically a silent statue of a toon right? Only with granite textures instead of shiny colors.
I am still in favor for this option. -
There is also a vocal minority who are against merging. But thanks efan for supplying your ideas about this subject. You are of course absolutely right that what you read here is not the entire truth.
Of course as we don't know the whole truth there is no idea to KNOW what the developers are considering for the future even if they don't have current plans for drastic moves like the server merge. They have done it on other games where a lot of people said that such a thing would never happen and from friends playing that game things have improved by that bold decision.
Most of us mergelovers are in favor of this because of what we encounter in the game. We make comparisons to what we have seen before. In my case a few years of having fun with this game. I don't see as many people zipping around as I used to. When I am trying to get a PuG it is much much harder to get one then it used to be. Especially when I play on the Red side or on Defiant where I have give up on PuGs completely. I notice that during events there is no longer a need for two instances of the same map. (skislope anybody?)
Would I like to see a great many extra players? You bet, I love the feeling of a crowded server. So yes I am in favor for any ploy to get that accomplished. A server merger could help here but it would only be a stopgap solution of course. I like the option to merge server lists better (also stopgap I realize). That way everybody can keep their beloved servers and names but with the option to check out the more crowded servers as well. However wishes don't always come true, so I will try to enjoy the game as best as possible within the limits it is now. -
And this is why a lot of people don't bother with this subject anymore. It will start a lot mess. It will start people to throw flames. And unfortunately it won't change the fact that a lot of people would like a thing like this to happen.
But in the meanwhile.
Join the channels. Gather some friends and move to Heroside Union if you like to experience a more less lonely game. Yes with the proper channels even Defiant got fun activity going on as they got some splendid players over there. But Union is still more active and easier to get into. -
I have been in and seen to many SG's die to make such a commitment anymore.
