  1. My next area I am working on improving is faces So I drew this portrait of my Arrow / device blaster : Silver Arrow

I would like your comments in general . But also more specifically what bothers me is the mouth . I do not seem to get that right. I do not know what I am doing wrong but it looks bad to me. Any advice ?

Sorry but I did this at work (it was a slow day) and the scanner is not so good.
  2. Oh wow !!! Graver / Gill collaborations!!!

    Contests !!

Ok now I have to create a toon on Freedom
  3. Ghaaa..... I wish I was rich
  4. Graver,

Thanks for answering my hand/feet question so thoroughly. I think I may just start drawing bigger hands/feet.

About the latest pencil I love it but I have one peive. The sword she is wearing seems to be a katana . Katans are worn with the blade up (Europeen sword were worn with the blade down) Therefore the scabbard should be arcing the other way. Now it looks like as if the katana had been worn blade down.

Sorry I know I am being too picky it is the kendoka in me speaking.

Otherwise this is great love the idea itself and I am looking foward to see the background.
  5. Graver I always admire your work. In this one I specially ( and I know this is going to sound weird) the breasts. They look natural. Sizewise and shapewise. In superhero that is a rare thing.

I do have a question for you: I noticed that you often draw the hands and feet slightly larger that normal. I assume it is on purpose so I must ask ( trying to learn from he bests here) Why? Just for style or is there more to it?

    Thanks
  6. I just read the equivalent thread on the Justice boards ... God we are well behaved here.!
  7. Very Nice work I love the pose
  8. Graver, I will try and fix the white . Thanks for noticing that.

As for the feet you are right. The main figure and the background were drawn separately. I will have to be more careful in the future.

TA: Glad that you like it. This piece was a great learning tool for me. I am getting more comfortable with Photoshop.
  9. Graver you are a true artist.

This is not only technically good but is full of feeling.

IMO this is your best so far.
  10. Superb work as always Juggertha

Did you have live models? or a picture? I am asking because the position is so good.
  11. I corrected the shawdow as per Juggerta's comment in DA.

    Rox thanks for the comments.

I agree for the hood. Unfortunatly correcting it at this point is beyhond my skills. As for the cape I don't see it. It may be because I am too close to it. My mind sees it the way it should be instead of how it is. Or is it the pattern of the cape that you are talking about ? His cape has blue triangles.

    Thanks for the comments everyone
  12. Well it is finally done.

    ART vs. XP

    [ QUOTE ]
Too bad you're not on Justice...

    [/ QUOTE ]

    my thoughts exactly

Art is improtant but who can really say no to double xp?
  17. I would repeat much of what other have already said . But one thing caught my eye in your post. You say that it takes time before you put an idea you have on paper. While it is good to think about what you are going to do I have found it usefull to carry with me a doodle book. That way If an idea strikes I doodle it on the spot while it is fresh . Now these doodle often look nothing like a real picture . It is more lines and circles but to me it has all the info I need for later when I actually sit down and draw.

I do not know if it is of use to you but that is how I avoid having a great idea only to later no be able to recall it correctly.

And has other have said Draw & have fun

    How long?

    I am slow.

usually I will make a bunch of thumbnails. I have no idea how long that takes but lets say 30 min.

then I pencil . That takes about 2 hours to get something rough. Another hour of tweeking to get a good pencil. then probably an hour to ink. colors: that take me a long time tonight I worked 2 hours on it and got just a bit of the background done. I would say 4 to 8 hours for the colors. (and even more sometimes)

sooo total maybe 12 hours of work. Problem is I only do one hour here one hour there I rarely have long strech of time to draw. so in the end it takes a long time between the time I tel someone "I am doing yours" and the time the project is finished.

When I say I am slow it is in part also because when ever I draw lately I always give myself a challenge. (For example on the latest on it was to do a complete background.) This is to try and improve with each one. Another thing that can increase the time is the times where I get to a point and decide that that is not it. and start over again. (now that can increase the total time!)

I am not sure it answers your question. I dont know how long it "should " take . I just know this is how long it takes me.
  19. I just went to read that tutorial. There is noooo way I will ever be that patient. And you are actually doing something that take more time. I don't if I admire you or fear you.....

.....Ok I admire you.....but that much patience scares me.
  20. Yes it does but for it too really work I find you have to put a big X in the middle of it , take the piece of paper and crumple it in a thight ball and throw it against the nearest wall.

.....Well at least that works for me
  21. You do this with a mouse?

/* look at own mouse . ...shakes it angrily ....sigh

I was impressed before . Now I am just flabergasted.
  22. Wow great work great first post!

I hope you will do more

    and welcome to the boards!
  23. Thanks Graver an TA. I worked hard on that.

Very often I do no background, or when I do do them they look ...Blah to me. So I decided that for the next few project I would do I would spend a much if not more time on the background as the main character.

In this one because the buildings are so chaotic in boomtown I was having a lot of problems with the perspective. the vanishing points seem to be all over the place. That is what bothers me about the picture . I am still not sure I got it right . But if you are not seeing it it must be in my mind so I will go with that.

    Thanks again
