  2. Boss spawning really seems to be borked. Am I the only one that runs into this? My 7 man team with +2 enemies, treating me as +2, wanting to fight bosses, did not get bosses to spawn in much (and I know that it used to be quite easy to get bosses to spawn in every spawn with smaller teams). As in every other mob had one or so. Moving up to 8 on the team seemed to get them in at 1-2, but this still seems odd.

I was fighting mostly in RWZ last night, so it's not just Nemesis bosses that don't want to drop. Really weird.

In missions. We were doing the low 40s story arc, then missions, and did not have many show up. 20 or so over the course of two hours isn't much, at least in my opinion... but maybe I'm off base. I just know my other heroes haven't had this much issue getting enough Fake Nems from missions. I'm only at 66 after running a story arc and a bunch of other missions on mid to full teams.

I believe he meant most people that use those. He's been arguing against using anecdotal evidence as well, so I doubt he was trying to argue that most players use hide, since that would hard for any player to prove.

Really if we pretend that many people are using hide it doesn't really help, if they are hidden from searches and not accepting tells as suggested and effectively just playing on a private server then they are no good to me, or anyone else making pugs.
I don't think anyone is pretending that a lot of people ARE using hide. They're just saying you don't know how many people are hiding when you do a search. It is a fairly common practice, however (I know a lot of posters and friends in game that do it fairly often).

My arguments are solely based from what I am able to do in game. I use my SG, my friends list, my server's channels, search, and broadcast (though rarely for broadcast, unless I'm a high level hero in a high level zone, etc.) to create teams. Even at slow times, like late on a Sunday night, I am able to find teammates. And I make mid to full-sized teams quite easily during evening hours when most players are on (and I know plenty happens in the afternoon on my server as well). If you're using those tools, you should be fine looking for a team. If you're playing at 2 AM on your server, it'll probably be dead, of course. But that's the way it is.

Most of these posts seem to come from people not using SGs, channels, etc. to find teams. Though such posts are also a little vague on how the person is looking for a team too... they like to sit at "I can't find a team." Which is much different depending on if you're being active like I described, or waiting for an invite.
  5. Yeah, I know. It just feels like if you were active for a month during that time, it should be enough. I know it's just a badge and a beta that I won't have too much time for anyway (I only have so much time to play, so I prefer it to be on "live" content that actually affects my game), but I still feel a little slighted. Oh well.

Thanks for helping clear it up.
  6. I'm just glad you showed the list that the game shows you when you go into hide. There are official things about it as well, but that's the hard evidence right there. When you're in /hide, you just don't show up.

This whole thread is the same thing you see from time to time: it's variations on a theme. "Seems like there are a lot of Tanks lately" (or insert whatever archetype). "Seems like there are no Archery blasters, is it a good set?" etc. All such observations are anecdotal, and just do NOT work. People invariably post to such threads that they don't run a tank themselves, ever, or that they play an Archery character and just teamed with four other such characters the other night. Neither experience is WRONG, it's just anecdotal and based on limited knowledge. It is a logical fallacy to make an argument based on such observations... you'll be making a hasty generalization if you try to deduce something from anecdotal evidence.

This is no different than a comment I saw in some forums after 9/11. "I don't get why people say the economy has slowed down: my local Target and Best Buy are always crowded." Their anecdotal evidence for two local stores has no bearing on whether people are actually spending a lot in those stores, and it certainly doesn't show how the entire economy of their city, state, and especially country is doing.

We players just do not have much evidence to show that populations are up or down. We can really only tell if it gets REALLY crowded on a 2XP weekend, etc. We don't have the tools to get beyond anecdotal evidence.

So, if anyone thinks it's too hard to find a team, I have to emphasize again: take the advice I tossed out in this thread (along with others). There are people out there wanting to team, just like you. Use the tools given to you to do so, and you'll do fine. And it's not all about the search function (though you can and should use that).

Ding! Ding! Ding! And this is why I tell my students to use ACCURATE and SPECIFIC evidence in their papers.

I have to say yet again that you can find teams easily in CoX. Maybe you won't get an 8-man team begging you to join them right away, but the people ARE out there. Most of them are just not wanting to lead a team for whatever reason, or are waiting as well. Be smart and snatch them up. Make friends, join an SG, use your server's chat channels. You WILL find people, and you WILL be able to be on and/or form teams. Easy: just takes you being a little proactive.

And that doesn't even count the many times I just want to solo for a bit and get tells from more than one team. You still can and will get asked to join teams.
  8. How does that loyalty thing work? I'm reading it as you have to be active from Aug. 15th to the end, but I really hope not. I had to let my account lapse for a few weeks while we dealt with some money issues, but now I'm good all the way through April. As of April next year, I will probably only have 3-4 weeks of none paid time in over 14-15 months. But I don't get in and have a badge for that? Bummer.

I know they announced it earlier... just feels lame that you had to be active for ALL of that time. But I am grouchy from grading today, so maybe that's the problem. Heh.
  9. Man, I only picked up about 20 Fake Nemesis robots last night, and I had an 8-man team most of the time. Not sure why they weren't spawning in much. I had us fighting +1, fighting like 2 heroes, wanting to fight bosses and AVs. Anyone know if you need to tweak things a certain way to get more bosses?

Still had fun, got to 43 and 6 bars to 44, but I was hoping for more bosses.
  10. One thing to keep in mind is how nice defense is for avoiding end drain attacks (I know you're mostly talking about endurance issues, but this is a factor as well). My Shield/SS Tankers really doesn't mind fighting Arachnos or Carnies, as their debuffs and end drains just don't land. My Fire/Fire can handle them okay, too, but he gets hit by all the annoying stuff much more often (22-24% def to all just can't match up to the def cap).

Mace is just fine for end use. I have a Invuln/Mace, and he doesn't noticeably use more than any of my many other Tankers. You do need to grab Stamina and three slot it, but slotting your shields and attacks for end discounts is the biggest thing to do (particularly attacks: they're the real endurance eaters). Picking up the Atlas Medallion is also helpful, and any +end or +recovery bonuses you can from IOs. They do make a huge difference. I have a Peacebringer without Stamina, and adding the Atlas Medallion and those +recovery bonuses made a huge difference in his performance.
  11. Eh, you can't really say "in light of GR." We don't know exactly how it's going to work, or what changes it will bring to the game. They may have some AT changes planned already.

But it's much more likely that they will release GR and then address any AT balance issues that MIGHT crop up (most people saying that they will occur are jumping the gun a bit, as no AT is so badly off as they would like others to believe). Frankly, it makes a lot more sense to do so, as what if they change things for no reason? Bit silly, that.

And if they do need to change things due to balance issues, I doubt aggro cap is going to be the thing tweaked. It'll probably be survivability or something like that, since the aggro caps are designed to make teams not aggro too much at once.

Whether Tanks need something is much more up in the air. People here in the Tanker section talk like Scrappers are impinging on our territory too much, but they can't control aggro like we do, and if you're looking for damage on a team, you're much better off grabbing a Blaster than a Scrapper (ironically, someone tried to argue at one point that Scrappers were doing too close to Blaster damage, heh). Tanks have benefits that Brutes do not, so there is no guarantee that there will be an imbalance.

As I said, it's much more likely that GR will come out and Castle and co. will adjust from there. If that is what they do, that's them being practical, not having anything against tanks, too.

Earth/Storm Controller. I started him up a long time ago, and had him to level 39 by playing him at random times over the years. He's always been fun, but I have major altitis... I've decided to focus on one of my late 30s or 40s heroes and getting them to 50, as my altitis had led to a lot being piled there.

For my 50s, I have my first, a Fire/Fire Tanker (Grey Pilgrim), Sunset Samurai, a Kat/SR Scrapper, Menelmacar, an Arch/Dev Blaster, Tulkyas, a Shield/SS Tanker, Crey Hunter 1.0, a MA/Regen Scrapper, and Bladed Justice, a WP/DB Tanker.

So you can see why I thought I should branch out. People are occasionally needing controls, buffs, or debuffs on TFs or teams, so having somebody that could do that at 50 would be nice in my lineup. I had just finished getting Bladed Justice to 50, so I wanted a slight break from tanking before I ran my Invuln/Mace to 50. I still play him from time to time though: hard to resist the smash and crunch of Mace, hehe.

I'm guessing it's a thing the Euros get? But no matter what, you can buy character slots in the NCSoft store. It's been down some this week, so if the OP is running into that, they just need to wait for them to come back up.
  14. I thought the idea of that Percy story arc is that she made Midas sick than healed him to make a bunch of cash, but perhaps I misread that? I don't think so, anyway.

At any rate, the Goldbrickers are one of the many mid-level groups that dies out, unfortunately. I love the Tsoo, Warriors, and Goldbrickers, and they aren't in the game nearly enough.
  15. I still don't know what any of "the game is slow" crowd are seeing. Victory is my main server, which is not close to Freedom or Virtue in terms of population, though it has a decent amount.

I was on for 2.5 hours tonight, and at the start, I had a hard time finding people for my specific team for a little bit, because so much STUFF WAS GOING ON. In the channels Victory uses, there were 3-4 story arc teams being broadcasted, and 3-4 Task Force teams. And that does not cover all the people playing.

But I started up a four man team, and was soon up to eight. Had a few people leave toward the end, but found replacements. And during all this, people were shouting out for teams heroside AND villainside. That isn't dead, that's alive and kicking. Be proactive and take the advice I posted earlier, and you'll be fine.
  16. Anyone know much about The Golden Roller, redside? It's suggested he's the "cleanup man" for the Goldbrickers, but I always suspected he was Midas himself (more of a gut feeling than any evidence in game). I have a new hero whose backstory involved the Goldbrickers, so I am wanting more info on them.

Frankly, I wish they were in CoV more... they're a fun group. Kind of similar to the Sky Raiders, I suppose, but they have more interest and flair to me than the Raiders ever did.

Anyway, there doesn't seem to be too much info on the group or Golden Roller, so I was wondering if there is some more info rolling around than what you see on Paragon wiki about story arcs involving the Goldbrickers.
  17. They have never spawned in the dozens for me in SE Talos. I'll see one in a spawn down there. I would do the circuit, dropping the ones I saw, but as I said, I detest having to farm for a specific foe for very long: it's just not fun for me (nor for many others, which is why they started lowering badge requirements).

I hear that more spawn in if you're running a team down there, but I haven't had much drive to do this, because of my aforementioned annoyance with wasting my time hunting.

I'll have to look around DA when I'm in there... I hadn't seen many more in there, but visibility is low, heh.
  18. There is another post in this forum on the same subject. I'll copy and paste what I wrote there.

Plenty of people are playing CoX on each server. Villains are generally a little slower, but the people are there.

Quote from the other thread on what to do about finding teams:

"I highly recommend creating your own teams, adding friends as you team with people, and joining your server's chat channels. Many people on each server use those to form teams for regular missions, story arcs, etc. I'm mostly on Victory, and we have a TON of regulars on the Victory Forum, Victory Badges, and Victory Badges 2009 channel. People are on those all day long.

Check in with your home server's section of the forums to find out what those are, and join them. I can only imagine Freedom would have tons of those channels, and that it should be fairly easy to find people using the search feature.

CoX was and is great for how easy it is to find a team, though people do seem to broadcast for teams less than they used to. Being willing to make your own teams, add friends to your list, and use the channels will help you get in touch with a lot of people."

I see these posts periodically, and the issue is always where and how the player is trying to get teams: it's never that there just aren't people around (unless they're trying to play late at night for their server, which is then not that surprising).
  20. Coolio. Be on in about 20 minutes for those that want to join in with me, Kyber, and whoever else I find (should be a lot easier to find people now that I don't have to worry about having enough people in range to exemp and sk people).

  22. *sighs*

Here I was, hoping I would have the Archmage badge on my first hero, but no go. I detest farming for a certain kind of enemy for too long, so all the illusionists and masks needed kept me from getting it: I was in the low 100s for each and had no interest in going for more.

It's odd that the mask badge wasn't changed along with illusionist: illusionists were and still are easier to find than BP masks. Oh well, hopefully next time around.
  23. I could have sworn one of the badge requirements adjusted for I16 was how many Banished Pantheon masks you needed to defeat (from a post by Synapse or whoever it was working on these). I see that the "Banisher" badge is not on the I16 patch notes, however, so apparently I was just hoping that this was one of the adjustments? Or what?

I know Synapse or whoever said this was a first pass, but I was surprised this change was not made, if things are working as intended.
  24. Hey all, I'll be running a story arc team through the low 40s stuff tonight. I'm part of the way through the Eternal Nemesis arc, so this is a great chance to work on your Fake Nemesis badge. Let me know if you want in- I'll save a spot.
