Ham, like I said in the VF channel, we all left the mission and had two people log out so a 50 would get the star, but it changed nothing. Once the mission is set, it stays, apparently.
We might have been okay if we had caught the issue in time. The second person to have the star was 50, and DC'd during the second mission. I didn't get the notice that I was dropping to level 41 until the third leader grabbed the third mission, so we might have escaped this if I had known sooner (the new system, however, makes it hard to know who is what level on the fly. I really wasn't being picky with this ITF, so I was just inviting whoever was interested.
We did hang around for a bit, but nothing changed, as well. I posted this over in the bugs section of the forum, and let the new "I work on bugs in the game" dev, Arbiter Kim, know about it. -
Ah, forgot about adding that part. When we discovered the issue, we all left the mission, and had the next 2 people log out so the star would get passed to a 50. We all went in together, and nothing changed: the mobs were still 50, and we were still 41. As Ironblade says, it stays fixed. The level 41-42 guy became leader during the second mission, but the baddies and us stayed at the same level there. It didn't change until the 3rd mission got set.
Silly me, not being thorough with a bug report! Anyway, hopefully this will get changed fast, as it is quite common for someone to disconnect for one reason or another.
I know Vista likes to make my graphics card crash now and again, so I don't want to have to worry about this happening again while leading a TF (which I do about once a week). -
I don't get much rep, but when I do get it, it's usually positive. I did just get negative rep the other day for making a JOKE. It was obviously a joke, and in my server's forums, where people know me. So how I was negative repped for it, I really do not know. It doesn't make sense, as does most overly negative criticism (if you're honestly disagreeing, it usually doesn't involve the amount of negative feeling used by someone giving someone else negative rep).

Quote:You need to be even with your expectations, however (which is also common sense). You can't say an MMO is only profitable if it does WoW profits, as that is a completely unreal expectation. It's like saying a local bookstore isn't profitable because it doesn't do Barnes and Noble level business, even though it has multiple employees and good level sales for the size of store that it is.Business sense? How about common sense. CoH doesn't make anything compared to WoW and saying that a company doesn't need to make a really great profit is just stupid. By updates, I mean enhancing the game to make more on par to this generation. Power customization was a step in the right direction, but WoW also updates the graphics and sound. CoV did this, but that was years ago. The teaming stuff is all fine and dandy, but you're still playing the same content we have since ever. I'm not saying CoH is terrible and WoW is superior, but CoH is outdated while WoW seems to be actively updating their game.
You're also being unfair to the changes being made to COH... the updates do continually change the game, even if they aren't always massive changes like you get with a COV/GR type expansion (or a WoW expansion). But they do change things up quite a bit. I left about I5 or so, and came back between I9 and I10. The game played a LOT different, and it was a much more fun and involving experience. The game has changed a lot since then as well.
Yes, it is still the same game, but it is a different experience. I think a lot of the protest in this thread is that COH isn't given the credit it should, which I would agree with. I remember a MMORPG.com article predicted the top 5 or 10 MMOs a few months back, and "DCU or CO" was on the list, but not COH. That's open to debate, obviously, but it is a pretty big slam on an established game, versus two that weren't out at the time (and really are unknown for how well they will do still). The article was written by an editor over there, so they do seem to have a pretty strong opinion that COH is on the outs, when I don't think that's a sure thing at all.
Does COH need to improve and evolve? You bet it does, and I don't think NCSoft and the dev team can be ignorant of that need, either. We'll see where things go from here and what GR brings. It does need to up the ante... that's for sure. But until it comes out I will still argue that COH has chops and should get some credit for them.

Kali, ignore the rep stuff. Someone clearly just wanted to take a shot at you in private and didn't do it here. Really not worth noticing that kind of thing. -
My Ice Tanker isn't high enough to check in game, but Mid's doesn't allow you to slot accuracy in the power. But then it has an accuracy rating for the power. Weird. City of Data lists no accuracy needed either, so I would guess not.

Tonight, I ran into something annoying with the new auto-sk feature during TFs. I had bad luck with Vista and my graphics card not playing nice, but that's not the real issue. I was leading an Imperious TF with my level 50 Tanker. Vista decided to crash me just before we started the TF, and during the first mission, so the next person below me had the star, who was also a 50.
But then they crashed during the second mission. We got out, and the third person to get the star was... level 42 (or 41). He got the next mission before we caught this, dropping us all to 41. This would have been okay with the new system (despite losing a couple of powers), but... all the foes in the 3rd mission were still level 50. Ay yai.
We ended up dissolving since most of the team didn't want to wait for a GM or restart. Anyone else run into this same problem? I'll probably draw Arbiter Kim's attention to this, as I can't believe we're the only people it happened to, but more info would be good. -
I looked for you, John, but didn't see you. Sorry. Unless your global is different in game than here in the forums, so maybe you were with us... wouldn't be the first time it's happened, heh.
I'm going to post about it in the bug part of the forums, but we ran into something annoying with the new auto-sk feature. Vista decided to crash me just before we started the TF, and during the first, so the next person below me had the star, who was also a 50.
But then they crashed during the second mission. We got out, and the third person to get the star was... 41. He got the next mission before we caught this, dropping us all to 41. This would have been okay with the new system, but... all the foes in the 3rd mission were still level 50. Ay yai.
We didn't really want to wait for a GM, and some were apparently annoyed that I wanted us to clear as much of each mission as possible (even though it's 2XP weekend and I advertised for the TF by saying we would clear as much as we can), so we just dissolved.
Still picked up about 5 mill just from defeats in the first two missions, so that's not that bad... wanted a bit more, though. Joined up with Mental redside after and started a RWZ team, and that was much better. Didn't have annoyed people on the team and we motored through things. -
Probably not too easy to get this going on a 2XP weekend... Hami is more for the merits, etc., than the xp/inf/prestige. Victory seems a bit harder to form Hami raids for as well... I think people come out in droves if you start one up, but having it organized, etc. is a bit trickier.
-
They're just trying to go for more fun and hoopla... most like 2XP more than we do.
Hmmmmm, I haven't seen any doom threads in the forums, so it sounds like the servers are holding up thus far, that's good. -
Quote:I think it usually kicks in the longer the weekend goes, and afterwards. Because everyone has outleveled enhancements, or gotten to the IO level they wanted, or gotten to 50, and they're trying to IO out. But who knows, maybe this one will be different. Are the markets being messed with really though? I got one of my projects to 47 and am halfway through his new shiny IO build... but I haven't noticed anything weird about the prices of anything that I've been buying, except for maybe some rare salvage going up to 3 million (of course I just went to AE for those). Even bought some purples.
-
We could, that's true. Though my goal is to clear as much of the ITF as we can to take advantage of 2XP, so that may take up most of my playtime. We'll play it by ear with who wants in, I guess.

I'm not looking for the new MA animations to be true to life, so to speak, I just want to like how they look. The SS animations (other than the one that ported over to MA as well) look good to me. MA's just feel... off. That one punch shared by the new SS and MA animations just feels like a lazy arc made with a fist, not really capable of damage (whereas the Cross or something from SS feels like a sharp hit). Cobra Strike's animation would be fine if it did damage, but it doesn't.
Really, Boxing and Air Superiority feel more hard hitting to me. My Scrapper already used those, as he's a cyborg... hard punches and fancy kicks fit his needs. I know those two share animations with a lot of things, but I still like their "feel" more. Whereas SS is difficult for me now... I mixed and matched across all my costumes so I could see them all at some point.
I do agree about Battle Axe, Mace, and Broadsword needing new animations. I have a Mace Tanker and don't really touch the other sets as it would feel like too much of the same. I am REALLY glad they decided to expand on animations as well, as that's a hangup I have always had with this game. The Haymaker and Footstomp animations are used in a LOT of powersets, and damages some of the unique feel each set should have. I look forward to what BAB comes up with in the future! -
Eh, whatever. And people talk about me being heavy on the doom sometimes. Just play like you normally play: find some missions or TFs that you want to do and do it. I know it can screw with the markets, but just focus on selling for right now.
You know you had fun on Team Ninja, Mental. -
I kept forgetting to post in your thread, heh. We could probably both run these TFs tonight and get enough from the channels, I just like starting out with some for sure names to cut down on recruiting time, have a solid team start, etc.
I didn't want to draw people from your TF, but I don't really enjoy the hero version of the Reichsmann very much... the first mission is kind of fun, but the rest are kind of generic. And the Reichsmann is mostly just a sack of hitpoints: you do have to worry about the other AVs that come in and his stun to some extent, but it's not that tricky to handle. It just goes on a little too long for what it is.
I'm guessing that's why not many signed up, just because you wouldn't get too much xp/inf/prestige... though you could make sure to clear a lot up to the end and get a good amount, rather than skipping like so many teams do. But who knows, no one signed up here really, either. Still have time, of course, but I think most are pretty meh on 2XP. Some of our regular posters aren't posting much... I know MG is playing, but he just isn't posting like he used to.
Anyway, does the ITF sound best to you? Or would you rather tackle the LGTF or Moonfire? I still need those badges, but I think the ITF is more straightforward for getting xp/inf. -
I like the SS changes more than the MA ones. Partially because MA got the one SS animation I did not like... I think it's the offering for Thunder Kick or something. It's a weird round arc of a punch, and it lacks, well, punch to me. The other punch changes for SS were better (the jab looks sharp and painful, and Punch's new animation is strong/fast enough).
Cobra Strike's new animation might be okay if it did damage... as it is, the original looks better as a stun attack... which is what it is.
I'm not sure about the new Eagle's Claw... the new KO Blow can look great (especially with a shield) and this is in the same vein, but it really doesn't feel right. I'd have to look at it again to really say why.
I guess... the new SS animations really fit the set, but MA's just don't fit the MA feel very much. Someone suggested this earlier, and I would agree with this. -
Quote:They recently made a change to Midnight Grasp in Dark Melee so the DoT was more up front, so I do wonder why Flamethrower didn't get a similar look during the recent pass on it.Yeah, front loading the damage would be nice. I mean, you'd expect that, being hit by fire, right? Front loaded for the initial "OhGODImonFIRE!" shock and damage, and then the burning over time part...-shrug-
Looking at all the Blaster AOEs, Flamethrower is quite heavy damage for a non-nuke AOE, so that seems to be the balance point now: this is the same for DoT powers like Ball Lightning and some from Fire Blast (with the added benefit of Fire doing extra damage to make up for not having other mitigation).
But seven seconds is really too long. I probably would not mind a reduction in overall damage if it meant more up front damage and a quicker DoT. I'll keep using Flamethrow from time to time no matter what, but it's going to be mostly ignored while I focus more on Buckshot and M80 for my routine AOE damage.
Actually, this is making me wonder if I should dump Flamethrower for Sniper Rifle. Sure, they're both situational, but I've had plenty of times where I wanted a good start to a fight with big ST damage, and I don't miss the aoe from Flamethrower very often. I usually toss it in while something I'd rather be using is recharging (generally during a boss fight). Maybe I'll miss Flamethrower more than I think, but I don't think so.
I'll still want Incinerate for AV fights. -
Hmmmm, I'm going for an Elec/Elec build. I'm rather loathe to drop Havoc Punch, even though I'm taking every power in the Elec Secondary but Lightning Clap. Anyone know if it lowers your Single Target DPS much?
A lot of people seem to be going Shield/Elec, so I'm not sure how much people are noticing it around all the Shield Charging and Lightning Rodding going on. -
Hmmmm, did I oversell it? Would people prefer a LGTF or Moonfire?
I mostly just want some influence and merits for Grey Pilgrim, and have a couple hours open. How I do it doesn't matter.
I know I'll probably get something started just using the channels, but I always like to get a start here. -
Blazing Aura isn't shabby. It helps you keep aggro, and the damage does add up. I generally fire off Combustion and FSC in the middle of the mob, which really hurts the minions. Blazing Aura takes care of the rest of the minion's health while I use my STs on harder targets. So you'll never hear me demean a damage aura's ability, especially BA.
-
Ah, that explains it... I'm definitely not a Taylor Swift fan, heh.
-
Yeah, I'll have to mess with the colors myself... glad to see someone posted those. I don't mind at least seeing the "edges" or grid of ice around me, but I do want to be able to see my costume. Ice was at least a little less egregious for this than Stone, and now even more so. I may still want a more opaque look for Icicles, but we'll see how that looks with the other Ice colors I choose.

Hellwraith, I can't follow you by saying Fiery Aura has a "litany" of problems.
The problem with the set is it is not set up like "newer" powersets like WP, Shields, and even Electric (and you can see some of the same issues with Electric KB protection). New powersets or sets that have been redesigned are not affected by nerfs that were imposed in the past, or with some of the plain wonky power design this game started with (all of Fiery Aura's mez protection in Burn? Sure... okay...).
So what stands out is that Fiery Aura has a few wonky numbers in its powers that still add up. Consume has too long of a recharge for what it does, Fiery Embrace is too exclusionary, Burn was nerfed into the ground and is still paying for its "farming sins." These inconsistencies stand out when you look at how WP or Shields looks as a set. They are really solid.
Inconsistencies such as these do NOT make it a set that cannot tank. I've main tanked for everything in the game except a Hami raid with my Fire/Fire, and that's more because I don't care for the Hami raid than a lack of ability, etc. I could tank for teams before IOs as well.
I do think some of the wonky things in Fiery Aura merit tweaking (and I don't know that Castle won't note them... he's made adjustments to tank sets recently in the game's history... he's just had a lot on his plate the last couple issues), but I will strongly debate anyone that says the set can't tank. Not sure if that's where you are going exactly, but I'm just clarifying something I hear too often. -
You can always get the last arc started and auto complete most of it... I've done that with some of my guys that were sick of Striga and wanting to move over to Croatoa or another story arc.
I don't think that last arc is very long, either. The first Hanson brother has a lot more missions than the second one. You really notice this when you play through both... the first one takes forever and the other one is suddenly done.
*added* Viv, what does your sig mean? I see a knight jousting, but I am uncertain as to how it's too late for the two of them. -
Do you like XP?
Do you like Influence?
Do you like Prestige?
If you answered yes to one of those (or more), do I have the Imperious Task Force for you!
It's 2XP weekend, meaning it's worth dropping as many mobs as you can! On Saturday night, at 7 PM Central (8 PM Eastern), I will be running the ITF. The goal here is to clear as much of the maps as possible, while still finishing in a decent time (i.e., we won't fight every ambush in mission one, try to clear the 3rd "lagmap," etc.). So no rushing through and ignoring mobs: we're going to drop as many as we can. We're in it for the XP, Influence, and Prestige!
I will be tanking for the ITF with Grey Pilgrim, my rough and tough Fire tank, so we have a good base to start from. Let me know if you want in, and join the xp/inf/prestige train in Cim!
1. Grey Pilgrim (Tank) -
Eh, that's what happens when I post late at night. Which is why finishing a paper at 2 AM is never a good idea (and I am guilty of that as well).
Ham, I might be able to join a Psyche on Monday night. It doesn't take over 2 hours, right? If so, I should be okay if you run it at 8 PM Eastern, when Isos usually starts.
