  1. I actually earn thousands before it adjusts, or I was this weekend. At that level, it's hard to know if it's doing what it's supposed to, but I will run with the assumption that it is.

Just wish it wasn't quite so laggy for that. Oh well.
  2. Yeah, defense sets should have the easiest time with Sappers. Boost your energy defense (which is already at a decent level for WP), and you won't even notice there are sappers in the group. I still target them since they're annoying to all, but they shouldn't give you issues, really.

My Fire/Fire dealt with them back in the day by using his ranged hold, as people suggested. Blech, it was ugly then... you could get 2-3 in a mob. Much nicer nowadays, and anyone can build up defense to dodge them now.
  3. Eh, it's really an argument that keeps on going. I think Kheldians had a lot of bad design issues at the start that have kept people negative about them. VEATs, like most new powersets, did not have to go through the same phase.

I hear people got nuts about their VEAT, but I haven't seen anything about their numbers or performance that makes them the absolute "uber" that people make them out to be. They're obviously well put together, but there is a strong bias towards them as well.

I never understand why bad Kheldian players seem to get more rap than bad players of any other AT. You occasionally get "this class must suck because of the idiot I played with last night," but no one takes it to heart like they do if the class in that statement is a Kheldian. There is no class in this game that is completely weak compared to the others: no matter how much people want to say one is more uber. There are strengths and weaknesses to every AT, and it all balances out.

Some powersets, etc. need some tweaking, sure, but there is not the huge discrepancy that some try to make: be it with Khelds, Defenders, Tankers, etc.
  4. Some of the rough edges have been taken off, though. You can call your contact much sooner on the original TFs, they move you around between zones less, etc. There are often quiet changes like this that don't get trumpeted, for some reason.

They do need to tweak them some, though. They could easily make them better by removing some of the repetitive content and just a bit more uniqueness. I'm not sure how it wouldn't be worthwhile to at least allocate some resources to such things.
  5. Well, it's still going, but I'll probably only have time to get my Isos Defender on track tonight with Hammy's Sister Pscyhe run. If there is time after, I may try to level my Warshade a bit so I can get to the next Kheldian story arc for him.

As it is, I made a little cash with Grey Pilgrim, made some Prestige for my solo SG with Crey Hunter 1.0, and got my Stalker (Gentleman Death) from 37 to 39 (which is nice, I want to get him in to the level 40 story arcs, but there are a few things he needs to finish up in the 30s first). Not too bad in the time I have to play the game.
  6. Perhaps this is the way it always works, but I'm wondering if Prestige is adding to an SG's total properly. I usually don't keep too close an eye on this, but I've been trying to get some Prestige to my solo SG.

The awards messages show up on every defeat, saying my SG is awarded "x" amount of Prestige, but then the total amount of Prestige my SG has is not going up (if you go in the SG screen). The same seems to be true if you look at my hero's amount of Prestige in the SG list... it doesn't move up with the awards messages.

Is there always a certain amount of lag to this? Or is this new? It's hard to keep track of if it's dropping it correctly because of this.

    Help with a PB

Having come from the other thread, you should know that a lot of people advised him to take the other forms, Novella. You obviously have your preference, but going human only is trickier and may not be the best for someone that is trying out the AT.

Grabbing the forms let's you know what is out there, and you can adjust your build if you find you don't want to use a form. Also, it's usually easier to level up using the forms (or at least Nova), then respeccing into all human when you're in the late 20s or so.

So that is what I would advise you, Techbot. Grab the forms as you go and see what you like using. That way you can know what you like. Just remember to be careful with your slotting, as I said in the other thread.
  8. Ah, well, sorry if I took it too far. You did suggest flipping the inherent, which suggests it doesn't work as is, though.

People have a lot of weird anti-kheld bias built up over the years that I usually try to argue against, and the inherent is one of them. If anything, the inherent makes even more sense now that it carries across the forms and that Khelds can get buffs from other kheld teammates. I just wish Controllers gave more of a buff: 1 mag mez resist is a joke. As other people have pointed out, you have to have multiple Controllers on a team to get the buff to an adequate level, and at that point, they're locking things down so well you don't NEED mez protection.

I think people just like the VEAT buff more because we're innately selfish and like getting buffed ourselves. People talk about the devs hating villains, but they did give villains easier to appreciate powers at times. VEATs buff their teammates, Corrupters and Doms are a bit more able to solo than Defenders and Controllers, etc.

As for the finding team stuff, one tricky thing with Khelds is that you don't necessarily know what you're going to get (depending on if they're tri-form, human, etc.). So sometimes people are thrown off by that. But no matter what, you will be getting DPS from them and some buffs/control... which any team should want. Still, VEATs are more straightforward than Khelds, so it's easier for people to know what to expect from them.

These buffs would instantly make Khelds more welcome on teams. The Kheld's base stats would have to be enhanced to account for the fact that they won't be getting buffed from teammates anymore; they would no longer reach the highs of teaming with 8, but they also wouldn't have the lows when soloing or on smaller teams. Balances out from the Kheld perspective and would make other ATs welcome khelds. Win/Win...
I've never understood this attitude about the Kheldian inherent. I color it this way to show the problem: "How dare that teammate of mine get buffs, making it possible for him to help me and my team out more!"

Seriously, no one whines about buffs making the Tanker more survivable or the Blaster do more damage, so why the Kheldian? The problem is a perception, not so much how they work. Anything that helps the team helps you: the game doesn't portion more xp to the Kheldian on your team because they're suddenly taking or doing more damage. Instead, your team is rolling along, safer and stronger than they would be otherwise.

I can't find that post, but I can swear that I've seen it. (For what good that's worth)
That is pretty much what was said, and what was discussed on the Kheld forums about it. If you make Human form too strong, than the other forms start getting pointless. It's tricky for the devs to balance the three forms, and I certainly think giving human form even a bit of mez protection would make Dwarf less desirable.

Heck, as it is, Human form has a lot of tools to make it without mez protection: giving it to them would make them even more effective than they already are.

Comparatively, they just do less damage, have long animation times, aren't as durable, and don't get mez protect outside of Dwarf.

But, having voiced my concerns before, there were enough vocal people that felt they were fine and didn't need to be changed. So HEATs go on my list of things I can't or won't play, like Stalkers.
Of the two, Warshades seem to be set up a little better. Peacebringers have a few powers that could still stand for some tweaking. I used to have a list I could break out, but... I'm forgetting some of the things I usually have in mind. I think the one of the ones that stood out were the length of the animation for Pulsar (3 seconds), and the fact that it's a guaranteed Mag 2, with a decent chance (50%) of a Mag 3 stun. Gravitic Emanation for Warshades is a guaranteed Mag 3 stun, PLUS knockback, PLUS it animates in 1 second. That difference makes no sense.

The other big one I remember is the length of recharge on Photon Seekers. It's a nice power and gives a nice burst of damage, but it takes five minutes to recharge out of the box. It's not too hard for a Warshade to have 2 pets out at once, which is a continual source of extra damage for them.

Even so, Peacebringers do well, and have some fun and flashy powers. I do wish the above would be tweaked, however. Peacebringer's advantage over Warshades is consistent performance (whereas the powers a Warshade have can bring extreme highs and lows in damage, etc.), but there is no need to have the two above imbalances.

We can agree not to debate it if you don't feel like it, but don't simplify it like that. What I was talking about wasn't player skill, either, it was playstyle preference. Some like them, some don't. But they aren't weak, either. You clearly don't enjoy them (or like some parts of them, but not others), but you're not saying that. Of course, you may have some crazy high metric for what plays well. I haven't known you to have an unbalanced viewpoint like that, though.

Anyway, I'm not want to paint things rosy when they aren't, either. My Sonic/Sonic Defender solos much slower than the rest of my heroes, so I can tell the difference between heroes and how they play. My Kheldians do quite well, and I like how they work.
  15. When are you running the Sister Psyche, Ham? Monday night? Or Tuesday night?

Just wondering, as I'll be on Monday. Not sure what I'll run with if you're not running Psyche, as I don't want to level my guys too fast.

There is a group of people that love their kheldians because they are "difficult to master" or "a challenge instead of a cakewalk."

You can easily interpret either statement as "weak." Or "weak most of the time with occasional moments of cool."

A human only warshade with perma-eclipse, inky aspect, orbiting death and three fluffies out is certainly a sight to see and even more fun to play. right up until you have to shift to dwarf to avoid mez death and your DPS drops into the dirt.
I disagree completely. They do take more work and thought to play and build, but that does not mean they are weak. Difficult to master is a way of saying you have to put more effort into playing them well (not that they can't play well). Let's face it, soloing a Tank or a Scrapper isn't TOO difficult. If you just want to go in and hit stuff without thinking, a Kheldian is not for you. Which is why they aren't quite as popular: the more basic setup ATs get a lot more playtime for that reason.

I have a tri-from Peacebringer that solos just as well as most of my other heroes, and is more advantageous on a team: because of his adaptability. So I do just fine with mine. You obviously didn't think yours was worth it and deleted.

However, I think your doing so was more because you just didn't like how the AT played: not because it's badly designed (unless by badly designed you mean designed in a way that you don't like). Your Warshade description bears this out for me as well. You can avoid getting mezzed much of the time in human form if you want to stay there, and a Warshade can keep up very satisfactory damage numbers in Dwarf form by using their buffs and pets.

Since the setup currently is for Ignite to be a ST attack (basically what it amounts to), and Flamethrower is the AoE, you should just make adjustments to those two by keeping them that way. Your suggestion is a needless change on that point.

Adjust the two to be a bit more easy and usable as they are, and you have your needs answered, I should say. IF you can prove the changes are needed, of course.

All scrapper sets can do exceedingly well vs. large spawns and +levels once IOs are introduced.
I think the point was more that they don't have the AOE output of other ATs, especially Blasters. Scrappers can do well in a variety of situations, but they do have balance points. If you're on a team and find yourself in need of damage, you're far better off getting a Blaster than a Scrapper. Even Scrappers that are good at AOE aren't going to put up the same numbers for the team.

If you just look at the numbers, of course. I've yet to find a team makeup that can't work on story arcs and most TFs, and just pick up whoever wants in. Hence my thinking that arguments about "this AT is going to supersede this AT" is bunk.

Same thing here. Any AT can solo and do fine. The problem comes more from what people define as soloing. +1/1 is not bad (the old heroic setting), but there are a lot of people that think every AT should be able to solo at higher levels than that, which is where the problems come in.

Too funny. IOs certainly help Kheldians, as you have a lot of powers and only so many slots, but they hardly need to be that expensive. Heck, frankenslotting with cheap sets alone helps you get even more out of a solid build. And you can get a lot of nice bonuses from very cheap sets.
  20. One addendum for slotting a tri-form. You're going to have a LOT of powers, and you will have a much harder time if you try to spread out your slots among all those powers. Make priorities and go from there.

Personally, Nova form makes the early levels way easy. It's similar to a Blaster, and Blasters have a real easy time at those levels as well. So when you pick up Nova at level 6, focus on the four powers you get there (and you don't even have to fully slot everything... I heavily slotted the two AOEs and heavier ST attack, and went lighter with the weaker ST attack).

Then you get Dwarf at level 20. Slot that up well (you should be done or good enough with your Nova form at this point), as this is the point where it starts getting helpful to use Dwarf.

As you go, toss what slots you can into your important human powers. For PBs, these are your melee attacks and self-heals, for the most part. SOs will help, as they do with everyone. And if you go for IOs, getting +recovery helps plenty. My tri-form PB is at 39 and does not have Stamina: he has less issues than my tank for endurance as well (and I build my tanks well for endurance use).

As you go, you will get more and more versatile, which is what most Kheld players like, and what makes Khelds stand out. On my PB, I'm not pigeonholed into one AT setup: I can scrap, Blast, debuff, and Tank. I use binds to switch between forms easily and adapt to the situation as needed (often mid-fight. I can start out in Nova on a team, but if things go south with the Tanker, I can switch to Dwarf to help out there, all in a matter of seconds).

If anyone does go for an all human build, realize that you are, to some extent, gimping yourself. It's not as bad as a Mastermind with no pets or a Tank not running most of their shields, but it does weaken you from the versatility forms bring you. Even so, all human builds can do quite well soloing. I do know that it is easier to use Nova as you go up to higher levels if you're going to go all human, then respec out of it: just because you won't have all the tools needed to do well in only human form until later in your career (20s... maybe 32 at the highest).

For instance, I have a lowbie Warshade that I just started: he grabbed Nova at level 6, even though he's going to be a dual form Human/Dwarf Warshade. I just know that it will make things easier, and it already has. Getting him to level 6 wasn't hard, but I noticed a strong uptick in my speed once I grabbed Nova.

Just a little food for thought. Any AT takes good playing and planning to be effective, but you really need that with Khelds. They have a lot of tools, meaning you can do amazing if you use them well. If you try to spread yourself too thin, however... it's not so good. I think that's why some people think Kheldians aren't all that great: they only play them for a very little while, and they don't plan like they need to.
  21. The comparison is a little similar, as both ATs want their targets dead fast. However, Stalkers are a lot more resilient in a drawn out fight, and are able to scrap things out. Blasters are balanced out with that by being able to do a lot more damage via AOEs, etc.

You can make drawn out fights less dangerous for you Blaster depending on your build, etc., but Stalkers should always be safer (though both are fun).
  22. Yeah, RAM does seem to make a difference. I access COH from a laptop, and that always takes a bit to load there (heck, COH crashes if I play on that laptop for too long). My old tower was faster than that laptop, and the newer, much faster tower I built in January boots it right up unless the server itself is being slow.
  23. Here's my build for you (using Mid's hero designer, which you can get here: http://www.cohplanner.com/ ). I went for good all around defense to Melee, AOE, Ranged, and Psychic. Also, as much +HP and +Recharge I could get, as it helps to have both of those as well. Some people go for just Smashing/Lethal defense, and that can work pretty well too.

I had about 25 million banked on my Fire/Fire when I came back to CoH myself, and managed to make most of this build with that, though it did take awhile for the rest. As you work towards your goal, picking up CJ, Tough, and Weave should make you pretty resilient.

Also, I don't use Burn anymore... it's just too nitpicky to leverage it: I just rely on my other AOEs. Anyway, here's the build. I can't get Mid's to look nice in the forums anymore: anyone know what the issue is? This is the lastest build of Mid's, too.

  24. Zombie-we would have tried to switch leaders around if we had noticed the problem. It's harder to notice this kind of thing on the fly now with the SSK features. I'm pretty sure we wouldn't have run into this if we had managed to switch leaders to a 50 before we got the third mission, as I didn't get exemped to 41 until he grabbed the third mission.

Even so, this is NOT a good setup for TFs. Really, the new SSK feature should just automatically put everyone at the max level for the TF OR the mobs should be able to scale appropriately. Players should not have to keep an eagle eye on who has the star if disconnects happen. That's just asking for disrguntled people all over.

For us, we all left the mission, and we had two people log off that were next in the list, so that a 50 would be getting the star. It didn't change anything. We didn't ALL log off, but I don't see how that would change things if we left the mission, etc. The settings get a new "look" upon entering a mission, as I was asked if I was okay being exemped down upon entering the mission.

Mike, I have a GeForce 9800 GT, 512 MB. It will occasionally encounter an unrecoverable error while playing CoX, crashing me to the desktop. No other game has the same issue, so I know it's a CoX thing. I didn't see any potential changes to this that didn't involve changing up settings that I didn't want to do, as I play other games on my computer. Unless the Windows hotfix you mentioned won't mess up other games... let me know, and I'll give it a try.
  25. In discussions on the Tanker forum, I found out that you can select the "No FX" option and have this sound go away (I believe it was BillZBubba that figured it out). There is a fix for this in the current build on Test, so hopefully you won't need to use a workaround for too long.
