One thing people are forgetting about in comparing the two Epic ATs are their similarities. They do play differently, but they do have some of the same issues. You have to be careful with your power picks and your slots to build your character well, and there is a decent degree of thought needed in playing both.
I think VEATs are a little bit easier to play than HEATs (to get the most out of HEATs, I think you have to be constantly adapting and changing to the situation, which often requires a formshift), but they're both certainly more complicated than Scrappers or Brutes, for instance.
Fun can be had by both... it's a personal preference thing. -
I was going to post on this earlier, and I'm glad EvilGeko took this direction. I could agree with this thinking if Brutes really needed it. Scrappers and Brutes are probably among the most solid and easy ATs to play right now, so giving them a buff like this is probably not warranted, even if there is logic to giving them the said buff. Getting to a 400% buff on Shield Charge is quite nice as is.
Who knows, maybe you could make it fly, since they upped the damage on Shield Charge (which was already ridiculously good for Tankers and Scrappers): but I really do doubt Castle and co. are going to run with that.
Frankly, I'd rather see an argument for Lightning Rod working more like Shield Charge... having the LR weaken the farther you go from its center makes it harder to use and not quite as good as it should be. We'll see if it happens, though... I've been wishing for some tweaks to Fiery Aura, as its minor inconsistencies are all the more glaring after Shields came out (and now Elec). -
BP Masks and Moonfire, oh my!
This Saturday, in keeping with the Halloween event and my continuing need to get the BP Mask and Moonfire badges on Grey Pilgrim, I'm going to hunt for masks in SE Talos, then round things off with the Moonfire TF.
Remember, the Banisher badge (earned for defeating 200 BP masks) is required for the Archmage Badge. It's much easier to get during the Halloween event with the permanent night in SE Talos.
I'll kick things off at 7 PM Central, 8 PM Eastern. Let me know if you want in on one or both: I can make up two lists.
BP Mask Hunt:
1. Grey Pilgrim (tank)
Moonfire TF:
1. Grey Pilgrim (tank) -
Steel, make sure you're joined in on Victory Forum and Victory Badges channel. If you're on in the evenings any night, you should be able to find plenty of people to team up with.

Well, you couldn't switch to Dwarf at all while mezzed before, so this is still a bonus. However, you can get mezzed as you are shifting after the changes... at least I noticed I could be. I don't recall there being a fix to that, and it seems like it's still going, so yeah, still there.
I don't think it's SUPPOSED to be that way, but no work has been done to fix the issue, either (as far as we know, of course). It'd be better if you could just shift faster, too, but I don't know if that's in the works, either. -
Quote:It depends a lot more on playstyle, which I suppose is personal taste, sort of. I would agree that Nova is an okay place to put it if you form shift a lot. But in Tactics and other powers, it's kind of a waste. It only lasts for 5 seconds, so it's very hit or miss if it's going to work in a toggle.I find the proc very usefull in nova form.
What people seem to be forgetting is that on a shade who shifts into and out of nova often, the check is made when nova is activated and THEN each 10 seconds thereafter. In effect it works exactly like it would a click power...sorta.
But the only thing you need to know to make your decision is this:
The total damage you do in nova form over your entire playtime will be roughly 2.5% higher with the proc than without it. If this is worth a slot to you then take it, if it is not then do not slot it.
Anything else people are saying is personal taste.
As I said, putting it in a click guarantees it'll at least happen when you really want it to happen (when you're already building up, etc.). But still, playstyle. Up to you. -
Quote:I don't know that having epic ATs that unlock is fail, but they could probably sell them a little better. Epic is a horrible adjective for them, as people think it means power, not storyline with that. Yes, it's silly to think the devs will break the game for you with an AT, but people do it just the same, heh.Agreed, but then, some people would like villainous Kheldians on red side. I think what's being asked for is a mirror of each side's epic choice.
Although, you might be right and perhaps having epic ATs are just "fail" as a concept and all new ATs (if any) should be available at character select.
Though as has been said, I think any new ATs will be open at the start, since they have the unlock thing covered. There is not certainty of what GR will bring in that regard, but I feel pretty confident that there will be a new AT with it that you get if you buy the expansion. Not sure it will be a "start at level 1" or start farther in, though. Who knows how it will play, though. Hopefully there will be multiple approaches you can take with it to satisfy as many as possible. -
I think Victory really IS an East Coast server, though. As in location. And yes, it is.

I'll be running a level 45ish blueside team tonight, starting at 7 PM Centra. The plan is to finish off the 40-45 Carnie story arc and then hopefully move on to fighting AVs with Maria Jenkins. Come join in (let me know if you want in, and I'll save you a spot!)!

It was posted a ways back, but I figured I would respond to Gecko since I'm seeing it now.
I was really responding to your comment that Scrappers are generalists. You obviously have a different definition of "generalist," than I do, as generalist to you meant they could kill fast. By generalist, I mean someone who can fill in for the role of any AT, at any time. The ATs do overlap a bit to some extent, but the Kheldians are the only real ATs to strive for that.
Scrappers kill fast, with enough mitigation to survive while their DPS gets the job done. That's not really a generalist... their focus is melee DPS, and they are good there. They're just not a generalist. If you want to call them generalists, okay, but don't be surprised when you throw people off like me... generalist is usually used as I did. Both in how the word is defined and how it's used to discuss the powersets on the forums.
As for the rest since then, eh, you can't really quantify fun. To a certain extent, ATs have to be effective enough in game to get the job done (get xp and complete missions/TFs). After that it IS personal preference as to what approach you like in getting xps and advancing.
As I have said before, Kheldians are like most other ATs, where some tweaks could help, but are still doing quite well in the performance aspect. For the rest, it really is your personal preference as to whether you like Khelds, just like any AT.
Oh, and wanting a different unlocked AT doesn't make sense: the devs can NEVER satisfy everyone with an AT (some people love Defenders, I don't, etc.). VEATs are popular, but not everyone likes them. Does that mean the devs need to make another VEAT? No. It just means you go with one of the other many AT options, heroside or blueside. Just because an AT is unlocked at 50 doesn't mean it's going to suddenly be liked by everyone. -
I added in me, the Minnesota Boy. Heh, looks like Ohio would be the best if you're going to average it out. Cleveland rocks?
Not that I have money to go anywhere. If my wife and I are lucky, we'll have enough money to go to Vancouver for our anniversary in May, but we'll see. It didn't work out last year.
Did get to see some family in Montana, so it was okay, though.

What, no Warshade? How will we go on?
The team of Defenders isn't as cool without a Warshade to trick out!
-
Quote:Ummm, what? Range doesn't matter? So blasters don't have superior damage capabilities to a Scrapper because they have so much ranged and AOE capability? Okay. This game is about killing and surviving while doing same. Scrappers can do both. Control and range are irrelevant when you can do the above.
That statement if far too simplistic, and thank goodness this game is NOT that simple. Heck, it isn't even that simple for Scrappers, either: they have access to controls and debuffs that can help them survive long enough (or do damage more easily) for their DPS to do the trick.
Moloch, you do not need a ton of money to build an effective Kheldian. I'm not sure what builds you're looking at on the Kheld forums, but pretty much the standard that many cite are the builds in Plasma's guide... and he was talking BEFORE IOs. He has builds for you to make without them.
Kheldians can benefit a lot from IO'ss (as can any AT, though perhaps more than some), especially because of the many powers they need to put slots in. However, they can work without them. I only have a few powers IO'd out on my Peacebringer, and he's doing quite well at level 40. He'll be even more effective with more IO's, but that's not saying anything new for any AT. -
And almost a week after the event happened. I sense an axe needing to be ground.
-
Evil Geko, you kind of threw me with the "Scrappers are generalists" comment. Scrappers are the easiest to solo (and designed that way), as well as being melee DPS.
You can argue that IOs, etc. make them a bit more generalist, as you can get their damage survivability high enough that they can kind of fill in for a tank. But that's more of a comment on the IO system in general, rather than the AT system itself. I think some have suggested that the IO system makes for a generalist class being less needed as well. But even then, that's kind of ignoring the heavy benefits Kheldians receive from IOs as well.
At any rate, Scrappers are still not superior generalists to a Kheldian. They certainly don't have similar ranged damage or control capabilities. They have some, but not as much as Khelds. Scrappers are quite solid, but I wouldn't call them a generalist AT... being good at soloing isn't quite the same as being a generalist. -
Gaussian's is probably best in a click power, actually. Yes, in a toggle it can go off whenever, but that whenever can easily be when you are moving between mobs, out of a mission, etc.
With a click like build up, it will go off when you are about to attack, making it probably more worthwhile there. Up to you, of course, but that's where I've come down on this proc. -
Victory is my home server, and where all my real characters are. I think I have some lowbies on other servers when I was trying out powersets, but that was it. *sighs* My Victory slots are pretty much full, though. I just made room for 2 more by deleting characters I really didn't like, but I really like the rest.
I filled one slot with my Warshade, which is there to stay. Not sure what to do with my last slot... and I don't really care to spend money on more slots, either. Nor do I want to play on another server. Ay yai.
Anyway, more on track: I have a tri-form PB at 39 on Victory (I'm soon going to run him to 50), and my Warshade will eventually be Human/Dwarf... but he's only 12. I do see a fair amount of Khelds on Victory, too. -
Quote:Do not tell someone to learn to play, when you did not learn to read their post correctly. This thread needs more tears.
If you can't handle a boss, you are doing it wrong. Every single AT and power set has the ability to defeat a spawn with a boss.
If you find it just un-fun, well good news everybody, they give you the option to turn bosses off.
But I want to fight a boss at some point like the end guy!
/shrug welcome to the world of not everything revolves around you.
Adapt, learn to play, move on.
Sam and co. are not complaining that they CANNOT fight bosses, they are stating that there are TOO MANY bosses spawning for what they have their settings at. You should be able to set your game so you can have more or less bosses, and have expectations that it will work consistently. With his example, it does not seem to be working correctly: before I16, I would not expect to get mostly bosses if I was running with one other person, no matter what our settings were. We WOULD encounter bosses, but not in just about every spawn. So to have the current system be set at "consider me as two heroes" and have bosses in almost every spawn IS working differently than it used to.
I don't think Sam's experience is unique, either. I was running the guest author AE missions the other day, and I was set at +2, considered as 2 heroes, and wanted to fight bosses while solo. Not every spawn was a boss with a minion, but I would have to say 80-90% of the spawns were bosses.
That can be nice for some people, but it can make the mission more tedious, and take something away from having a named boss at the end of the mission. As I said before, we should be able to set it so there are more or less bosses in a mission (and really, I wouldn't be surprised if the devs would be concerned about this, considering the reaction to boss farms in AE).
I have complained about the opposite issue in I16, interestingly enough. Since the latest issue, I have run 5-8 man teams through a Nemesis story arc, and had very rare boss spawns. Considering I was trying to get my Fake Nemesis badge, I noticed this problem, and found it quite irritating. Changing my settings didn't seem to affect this, either (+0 to +2, adding how many heroes I was worth, etc.). It didn't used to be very hard to get a lot of Fake Nemesis to spawn... I ran a tank through the exact same story arc a few months ago, and got the Fake Nemesis badge from doing the story arc (or nearly, I may have hunted a bit as well... no matter what, it was much easier than it has been for my current hero).
I don't know what this means, but it does seem like bosses are spawning differently than they did before. It bears looking at. -
Why do we need to have KB changed to KD? We're Blasters, not Tankers: we can just nuke it from orbit, so to speak. This does make a difference, too... there are resistances to KB in the game, and I'd rather know that those powers are going to knockback, rather than wonder if they will or not.
It's not hard to leverage the KB, either... you can fire off an M30, than a Buckshot, and you'll hit the whole cone (as the mob just had to be in the cone when you activated). Same thing with M30 then Full Auto. You cut down on return fire and still hit everything.
I like the idea of tracers for Full Auto... it is an over the top power (hard not imagine Rambo while spraying those bullets), but that would be a fun addition. If you can convince BAB it would be worth it and it wasn't too time consuming. I think I'd rather the cone was a bit wider... even 5 degrees more would make it easier to line things up. I'm pretty good at it, but I'm still amazed at the times where a mob is out of the cone. -

I'm not sure what slowly drew everyone to channels on a server. I don't know if that extra layer of complication is liked because it weeds out some of the chaff, or what. I do think that there should be some better documentation on those things, as I do think that is partially why people can get the wrong impression that "CoX is dying," or it's too hard to find teams. Some of that does stem from people just expecting to get snatched up the second they get in game, but it is partially because where much of the population has gone: to the server channels.
So I'm a little torn on it. However, it is nice to have a bit of character and people you know to channels. It's also nice that it's based on globals... searches and broadcasts don't allow for "quick" identification (I know you can just click now, but that's more complicated than just reading the name).
Still, it's good to know about and use the channels... it is what it is, I guess. -
Sounds like fun, but I have to miss out, as Friday is date night for me and my wife.
How come you always schedule your fun events for times I can't make, Scooter? Huh?

I've been agitating for weekly threads for awhile, but no go. I hear you, Des!

Quote:Well, the better focus of the jack of all trades quote is that your strength is being able to do just about anything. For Kheldians, you can do that for the course of a TF, story arc, mission, or even mid-battle. Which is advantageous. There are times my Tanker would like more damage (and ranged damage) over his survivability, and times my Blaster could use some more survivability. A Kheldian can fill all those voids and not feel the lack. You get to be things the specialist can not be.I stuck with him until the mid-30s, but he's shelved. I constantly felt like I was the proverbial "jack of all trades, master of none." I could do lots of stuff but nothing particularly well. It just wasn't fun for me. This is in stark contrast to my experience with my Widow, which was fun from 1-50.
It's not always for everyone, of course, but a little perspective on the jack of all trades thing helps, too.
Oh, and if you're in the mid-30s, you should keep going. Eclipse is going to give you some amazing resistances, and more slots will make your powers all the more strong... and the experience all the more fun.Up to you of course, but you get better the further you go as a Kheldian.
