  1. Okay, good to know. Sounds like this will work better with a Tank or if I'm hovering over the enemies (which I have) and they're focused on me. Probably won't be too helpful on a mostly ranged team, like I had last time. I am going to get a set in there at some point... probably one of the accurate -to hit ones, as they have decent bonuses.

The system is made easier for them. That's all I meant.
Yeah, I used to play a good amount of Halo for the PC, and I noticed the difference when I finally played it on my friends Xbox. I hated it, really, as it was "all thumbs" to try and aim, and quite frustrating if you're used to the precision and speed of the mouse. I did notice the game was helping my aim as well, though... I was making shots that I shouldn't have (sure, I was close, but not THAT close).
  3. I'm having a little bit of difficulty with Liquefy on my Sonic Defender, as I want to know how to use it well. I just got it, so it only has the default slot in it, but I also can't quite figure out durations, etc. from looking at CoD and Mid's.

How long do the -defense and -to hit debuffs last? Do they have to stay in the patch for those to last reliably? Is the chance for kd really as low as CoD lists it (3% chance?)? Also, what is the chance of the hold landing? How long does that last? How important is slotting accuracy in this power?

I fired it off just after I got it, and I'm not sure I used it well given my team setup. We had a Scrapper running in to get the alpha, and then we had a few Defenders and Blasters. The Red Caps we were fighting ran right through the patch and didn't seem to be debuffed much (seeing how much they were pegging my teammates, etc.). I couldn't see any of them getting knocked down or held, either. Is this power best used when the foes are going to stay in the patch? Or is it just as simple as needing to get more slotting in there?

I get the impression that it's a strong power, I just want to know how to use it. I realize it will get better upon slotting as well, but it's hard to get a feel for it when I can't read the numbers on it well.
  4. I can't really play anything on the Xbox or PS3, as we only have a Wii and a gaming computer. I wish they'd just make the consoles into computers already. *sighs* So silly how they split up the market like that. Is Mass Effect 2 on one of the consoles again? Not sure if I'll be all that interested anyway, since I wasn't able to play the first one.

I'll have to see about Diablo 3. Diablo 2 was pretty fun, though all the demons, etc. in the storyline kind of throw me off. New one looked a bit gorier, too, which I never enjoy very much.

What is Jumpgate Evolution? Haven't heard anything about it. Yeah, I could go read up on it, but that's not as fun as getting a bit of info from fellow forumites.

  6. So, I was going to play tonight. But someone decided we should upgrade to Windows 7 today, so now I'm staring at CoX downloading, and it has a couple more hours to go. *sighs* So here's something to talk about.

I frequent gaming sites, so I like to keep my eye out for good games (I'm currently playing Muramasa for the Wii: I'd recommend it for anyone looking for a fun action game... has some great art direction, too). I'm wondering if there are any worthwhile MMOs on the horizon people are looking forward to.

DCU looks meh to me, and not just because I like CoX... it's not as intriguing to explore a world with such big and iconic figures as Superman and Batman, and I don't really feel like carving my own niche there. Maybe there'll be some fun gameplay, but it seems too early to tell (and I do hope GR will shake things up well enough to stay competitive in that regard).

Bioware working with the KOTOR property might have something to offer, but that's far too early to tell, too.

Cryptic has shown off more of their Star Trek property, but I'm not too impressed with the gameplay you can see. I'm a big fan of Star Trek the Next Generation (and DS9 to some extent), but that's not enough to overcome how meh some of that looks. Doesn't look particularly all that dynamic for ground combat, and the space combat looks a bit bland as well. Sure, you can maneuver around, but it looks like pretty much all the weapons track with your target, so it's not quite as fun and deep as some flying games I've played. I dunno, Star Trek seems to lend itself easier to actual RPG games, or strategy. Few too many captains running around if everyone can be a captain, as well. I may have misunderstood a video, but it looks like the Romulans aren't going to be a playable faction, which is a pity... TNG had some fine episodes about skullduggery between them, the Federation, and the Klingons.

Anyway, anything look interesting to you on the horizon?
  7. I could probably do it on the 9th (the Monday night), though that is a little far out to know for sure. I usually play on Monday nights, though, so it should hopefully be okay.

I was on a banner team/raid that failed to destroy the very last banner when it had about 1/8 of its health left, or something like that... it was quite depressing. Having a good team setup at the start will help make sure that doesn't happen again. I think my Stalker also needs Jack in Irons (he doesn't seem to like to spawn redside, or at least in my experience). ToT badges, too, but I don't know that I worry about those too much. I still need to unlock my patron with him, and he's part of the way through 40.
  8. Eh, Stalkers are just fine. They're one of those ATs that is much maligned but not for particularly good reason anymore (definitely needed help before Castle's buffs, but they were hardly terrible then: people like to trump up difficulties).

AS is a nice burst of damage at the start, and the debuff it provides is helpful solo and for a team. Stalkers are perfectly fine staying and "scrapping" after that point, and they do have the good ability to crit everyone has mentioned. It's also easy to drop a Placate in the middle of a fight for an easy critical, etc., which I know my Scrappers wish they could do.

Anyone playing or talking like a Stalker needs to AS and then Hide is playing in the old days before the buff (and not necessarily even then: Stalkers were not doing so badly that they couldn't stay and scrap), and perpetuating a bad playstyle. You obviously can run that way if you want to solo, but it is slower, and a team will be justifiably annoyed if all you do is hide and AS... that's a lot of damage and mitigation you are not dishing out.
  9. Yeah, best thing to do is to prioritize powers, rather than spreading yourself thin. I pretty much focused on Nova first, then Dwarf, and fitted in Human powers as I could. Even then, I still have a couple slots to throw Nova's way at level 40: but Nova form does well enough with the slotting I have.

It's a little easier if you don't go tri-form, of course, but I know that I went with my angle from other people's advice, and it works very well for me.

    All Tanker Teams

I really have to question that, as it's more of a "gut feeling" than a real thing. I've had 2-3 tankers on teams and not felt like we were "slower" than some other team makeup. In other words, you really can't measure something like that. You can technically add up DPS on a team and try to come to some sort of conclusion, but that's complicated by mob HP, resists, placement of mobs, etc.

Tanker Tuesdays feature all tanker teams, and they can motor just fine... I think some of the TF times put out during those have been rather fast, too, and I don't think they were going for speed with them. Tankers feature good melee AOE, and can pack the mobs in type, so you really can cut through things quickly. On my Tanker Tuesday teams, I haven't encountered any real challenges that I don't face with any team makeup.

In all seriousness, any team makeup in this game can work just fine, so it's not going to make THAT big a difference one way or another. That's the great thing about CoX.
  11. I really wish my aura shield was bigger... it's quite hard to fit everyone into it. And it's usually not in my favor to get too close to the melee types and get plastered by AOEs, either... I think I'm up to 16% ranged defense and 20% resist from my aura, but that doesn't stop too much.

I think we have more Sonic attack types than we have sonic buffers, so sometimes you may hear it a lot but not getting a buff. It doesn't help that my team always seems to be defender heavy, too... 3-4 Defenders on one team tends to make the other teams ummm, buff light? Heh.
  12. Hmmm, I thought he was joking, and I was joking back.

Anyway, if you've ever been on my team, you have had Sonic shields on you. I tend to focus on the melee types, but apply them as much as I can to everyone. Not that it helps Ham much when he's "ambushed."
  13. I already have a level 40 Peacebringer that is a triform, and I wanted to take a different approach with my Warshade. Yes, a triform Warshade would play differently than a PB, but not enough. I like to vary up my characters and have a good difference in playstyle to get the most out of the game (my first Blaster at 50 is an Arch/Dev that hovers and rains down doom and destruction. My second is an AR/EM that's a Blapper, leaping around with Combat Jumping and Hurdle to shoot from range and then leap in to finish things off with melee attacks... both are fun and provide variety).

I wanted to give a human focused Kheldian a try, and Warshades seem more effective for that to me, because of their more effective controls, etc. Plus I don't have a Warshade yet.

Oh, and maxing out means different things to different people. This build will run a lot different than my triform, but won't necessarily be a lot less effective.

Just kidding. I know you have the whole Friday night TFs thing.
  15. Oh, you know. MG and Champions had a fling... he just couldn't resist its questionable charms.

  17. Eh, they went with the big visuals for the con, which makes sense. It's a lot easier to wow a crowd with the look of graphics or a new powerset, rather than saying "oh, we're adding x amount of map types and missions," etc. And there are other hints of what's out there, too, it didn't all happen in this short 20 something minutes.

It sounds like there will be a change up in where missions are located (missions will have locations that make sense, etc.), more content, etc.

I can't say whether it's going to be good or not, but the suggestion is that there is a lot more out there. Beta is at best 4-6 months away, so they have a long time to be tweaking features they haven't talked about. If anything, they showed us the things that are set enough in stone to talk about/have the most done on (it sounds like the whip animations took way longer to do than the dual pistols, for instance).

Yeah... probably will take the place of Aim, which is kind of a bummer. Unless it's an extra power with the set that you don't slot.
  19. I'd love to join in with Grey Pilgrim, but Fridays are out for me. Could probably do Saturday night, though. Don't let me hang up a Friday night TF, though.

Oh, you might want to see if you can change your thread title. I was wondering what a "nakesake" was anyway... sounded Japanese.
  20. Man, kind of missing Tankers on this Isos run... our poor WP scrapper wasn't able to handle all our Red Caps tonight, even with the buffs we gave him. Sorry, MG: I made sure to keep my shields up on you, but even when they were on it seemed like your health plummeted fast.

My team had a slow time of it... I think I made 32 after playing for 1:45, and that was with 7 bars of patrol xp, too. Made it through most of the last two Croatoa arcs, though... think there are 3 missions left from Buck Salinger.

I feel really bad, too. My wife is sick and I had to ditch in the middle of my last mission due to RL health issues. Sorry again, guys. I hope it went okay after you left the mission. I didn't know whether to log out or not and didn't have time to write again, so I hope it got worked out.

Quite true. WoW is an animation style choice. Some like it, some don't, and it also has low requirements to allow plenty of people to play. For me it was okay, I just didn't like how it played after awhile.
  22. I'd probably dump Stygian Return over Shadow Bolt... it's a decent filler to use while waiting for the bigger attacks to recharge, whereas I hopefully won't need Stygian too much. I may just keep my eye on how bad my blue meter does with this setup and fit Stamina in/sooner if needed.

And hmph, you all have oversold Stygian Circle.

Just kidding on that, by the way.
  23. Depends on the team and what I'm facing. It's still the fastest source of quick damage while soloing, and it's nice for teams as well, unless you are in bad need of a tanker.

You may just have had a long run in with situations where you don't use it as much, or maybe a Kheld you were teaming with didn't have it or choose to use it. If anything, I find it even more useful now that buffs carry over to it... I can have some resists there and even more damage.
  24. Okay, Part three of that video series I linked to has some funny moments and a few bits of info (the last several moments aren't much use unless you wonder about the activities they did at Herocon) that are worthwhile.

Jump to about 7:25 in the video if you want to see what happens when you combine Liberace with an Arbiter. Hilarious.

A little before that, you can see Hamster's nemesis, Marcian Tobey.

Yeah, that's my problem with it. It's a feature that should just be a part of the costume creator (it already is at the creation screen), so why they didn't add this as part of an update is beyond me. I'm not the only one to wonder this.

Before Castle admitted that they couldn't think of anything better (not really a good reason to include the feature), I suspected as much, as it seemed like an odd move on their part, compared to most of the things they offer us. It's nothing like the little buff the Magic booster does, or the fun of self-destructing, or the mission teleporter.

    *added*

How did I miss this? Apparently you'll be able to change your ammo for dual pistols on the fly? Should be nice and helpful to switch up depending on the mob.

There's a bigger thread on it in the Blaster forums, but I would guess Dual Pistols will be like Claws or Dual Blades: fast, lighter attacks.
