Billz, seriously... stop acting like Kheldians killed your long lost love or something. And I do mean that in a teasing way. It's just funny how you are so all over about Khelds, but with some definite depression about them. A little less doom would be nice, though.
Kheldians aren't Scrappers, but they do have an easy time of it at lower levels, with or without Nova. Nova makes it even more so (and if you're not going for Nova, you should know what you're passing over... I'm playing a Huntsman now, and I know that I'm passing up some options that Banes and Crabs could offer... same thing with passing forms in Kheldian). -
I made it to level 10 the other day on my Huntsman VEAT, and was disappointed when making my new costume, as it would not let me pick any weapon but the assortment of Arachnos rifles. That was fine for my Huntsman outfit, but I did want to branch out a bit with my other costumes.
Is it truly limited this way, or is there a bug? Seems a bit of an odd setup, since all the other costume slots can't use the Arachnos uniforms. -
That's a fine approach to have... that's pretty much where I am at. I do wish they had revealed more about missions, content, etc. at Herocon, but it sounds like there was more that they hadn't talked about. I also have enjoyed what content has been added as of late (I really like all the Midnighter arcs on both sides), so I'm fairly confident they can keep doing some good things there. If they can deliver a good expansion on par with the quality of the past 6-7 issues, they'll be good.
If anything, that is what I quibble most with one of Unsub's posts here... there was an implication that people will not tolerate any criticism of CoX on these forums, which is hard to follow. Plenty of us "cautious" types, and doomsayers as well. And you have to expect there to be fans and even fanboys of this game... there is a reason it's still going after all these years. I'm not going to confuse a fanboy with most of the posters here, though. -
Cool, see you then. No issues for me with Monday Night Football. I've kind of fallen from being interested in sports in the past 5 years. They just don't hold the interest they used to, and I have a lot of other things I like to keep track of.
I've noticed that people still try to make banner teams happen on both sides, so even if we just have a team or two going, we should be able to pick up enough to get the job done. After that, it's easy enough to ToT, etc. with just one team. -
Quote:When you get in, let us know what night you're going for. I'm definitely going to try for this Monday night at 7 PM Central/8 PM Eastern, so I hope you're going for that too (it's cool if you don't). Just a little fyi for those interested... I'll do some ToT while waiting for a banner event to start, etc., as I still need most of the costumes, etc.Been away for a week, and heading out of town again tomorrow. I'll be back next Sunday and I would like to get the new badges on my main Villain. I managed to get them on my hero, but seems like everyone must already have them on their villains, no one is around.
Would anyone be interested in trying to get these badges on either Sunday night, say around 9PM EST, or on Monday around 8PM EST? -
Quote:Be sure to check your chat tab, and have "Hero zone event messages" enabled (it's something like that, I might be off in my wording a bit). That will show you whenever an event is starting for the hero zones, no matter what zone you are in (so it wouldn't matter what zone you are in, you will see it in your chat... I have both villain and hero zone alerts enabled for all my characters so I can now what's going on and decide to switch if I want). That must have been it - it makes sense. I did look in the General channel for any notices, but I guess the notice could have been issued just before I got to SC. I didn't notice that the sky looked any different, but I didn't look closely - just noticed that it wasn't the orange color that I see during other events.

?
I didn't. Video was embedded. -
Yup, Stalkers can be quite strong. My Nin/Nin isn't all the the way IO'd yet (but does have some extra defense), but he was basically taking the alpha and semi-tanking for my medium-sized team the other day. We had five people on the team, but one of them kept going afk, and the other one WAS being a lame stalker and scouting the map and doing nothing whenever I didn't remind him to be fighting.
So basically, I took the alpha for a five man mob and did my best to tank for the teammates that were on the team, as the only other regulars on the team were two Corrupters.
It was a horrible group to play with, since it took the three of us longer to clear the mobs than it would have if the two leeches were helping, but it does show that Stalkers can stick it out in a long fight. Ninjitsu is a pretty strong secondary, but the argument still stands. -
Quote:Truth. Tanks are going to draw more fire (unless you're hiding at the mission entrance, but then you're throwing any kind of true comparison out of the window). From the alpha on, your aura, gauntlet, and Taunt will be drawing more fire at you than any Scrapper.Having actually played both defense and resistance-based powersets, I can tell you that "defense is stronger" is an illusion created due to the overabundance of set bonuses and +Def pool powers that allow you to hit the defense softcap.
If you are going to talk about softcapped defenses (especially on Scrappers), then to be fair you also need to consider resistance-based or hybrid powersets with high levels of defense from IO set bonuses, otherwise you're comparing IO builds to non-IO ones, and of course the former are going to be stronger.
Resistance powersets have their own advantages over defense powersets, including mitigation that does not instantly crumble at the first sight of ToHitBuffs, is not susceptible to bad luck and (with the exception of SR and certain high-end SD builds) will not vaporize in a hail of machinegun fire. Machineguns that every level 10 thug in the game carries. There's also the little-mentioned fact that resistance powersets tend to get heals while defense sets often don't.
A Defense-based character will not last longer than a resistance-based one vs STF Lord Recluse, because one of the towers grants him a massive ToHitBuff. This is a bad case to use as an example because in this fight inspiration use and ally buffs play a bigger role than your build anyway.
Finally, I would not draw any conclusions from the fact that your Scrapper/Defender seemed to be tougher than your Tanker. In a team setting, Tanks will take more damage because they constantly draw aggro through Gauntlet, and it is very possible for a well-built Scrapper (or other AT) to appear tougher than a Tank who actually has much better mitigation simply because fewer enemies are attacking them.
Defense really is illusionary in some respects. You think you're just peachy until some unlucky hits land, then you're up a creek (if you've played an SR character before, you should know this well). This is why Ninjitsu is superior to Super Reflexes for Stalkers: you have more tricks to use when your defense isn't enough. Like a heal, etc.
To focus in on Shields, my Shield Tanker is above the def cap to all positions: quite nice. He can motor and feel invincible in most situations (tanking on an RWZ raid is a joke with him, in all honesty). But once you face defense debuffs (unless you have a bigger cushion, like 50-70% def to all) or to hit buffs, it's another story. Nemesis is a big problem on teams once those lieutenants start tossing Vengeance to everyone, as your defense suddenly means nothing... and your resists and +HP aren't quite enough to cover it (One With the Shield can save you if you're fast enough activating it). Same thing with Devouring Earth and those darn cairns, etc. they drop.
And Ultimo, we really can't say what your issue is beyond perception if you aren't going to post a build. You went for some extra mitigation on your Shields, and we still don't know what your current build's issues are. Defense is indeed nice, but an Invuln Tanker has them, so a lot of the things you are saying is moot. -
Note that there is another event, called "supernatural activity" in the alert channel. All mobs are cleared for these events as I said earlier, and you can only fight things at the banners. Even then, you have to wait a few minutes after the event starts for mobs to appear. You could have had a sync error, but I'm more inclined to believe it was a banner event.

Quote:Indeed. Some people like to believe writing is easy or that they could do it better than those people getting paid to do it, but it really was that easy, everything would be Nobel, Academy, Emmy, and Pulitzer Prize worthy.LOL! That brings up one of my favorite anecdotal quotes: Writing is the easiest profession in the world, if you enjoy sweating blood!
Give it up, you're only digging yourself a deeper hole
Obvious answer is that it isn't. Even the greatest authors have more iffy things that they have published. Creative work is bloody hard, and having it be recognized is just as hard, if not more so.
Anyway, I just see this as more negativity from Massively. Every article I have seen on MMOs from them consistently puts CoX in a bad light, and suggests that it is soon to be supplanted by the other superhero MMOs (they had an article a month or so back about the top MMOs in five years, and the top superhero MMO was obviously going to be either CO or DCU). They wanted a sequel from CoX awhile back, too, and even though GR will supply a lot of that (they wanted a new graphical look with it), now they think GR will make it or break it for a whole software division that does not just include CoX.
Really, game media hasn't been all that nice to CoX, for some reason. Everyone wants to talk about the new games coming out, and how WoW is all that and a bag of chips.
As for the rest, NCsoft obviously has made decisions to close games, but that doesn't really make me nervous about CoX. Those games weren't doing well after their investment, and they had to let them go. If people are holding them accountable for not holding on to a game that wasn't profitable, I fail to see how that is NCSoft's problem.
As it is, NCSoft has owned CoX alone for awhile now, and we're still here. They've invested in it big time and have an expansion coming. People would be silly to think that CoX won't be around for a long time after Going Rogue, even if it doesn't do super well (which I'm not sure how that will happen). The future has a lot of possibility, and this game has at least a few more years future, if not more.
Dooooooom! doesn't cover this article, or some of the posting here. -
Also, was there a Halloween event going on? The banner events clear out all mobs but for the banners, so that could be it. Check to make sure you can receive Hero Alert Messages to help you out there, but you can also hear when the event triggers (musical intro). The sky also goes all gray and cloudy, which is different from the usual starry sky you get in Paragon City (other than Croatoa, of course).

I play at about the same times, and plenty of people are around then. As Penny said, joining the server chat channels is the way to go, as much of the advertising for teams goes on there. Still, you should be able to make teams and find people just using search.
If you're comparing to heroside, villainside is slower. But people are still around. I have a lowbie Arachnos Soldier who's been running around Mercy and Port Oakes lately, and he's seen plenty of other people about and broadcasting. Could just be timing, etc.
But join the channels, start teams, join teams, and be part of the community for sure. And welcome back! It should be fun... I came back about 18 months ago and had a lot of fun checking out all the things they've added. Made an already good game even better. -
Well, it's kind of weird... was it just a random, he won it thing, or he got it because he's around a fair amount?
If a few people got a random win of this, I'd probably be okay with it, but if he was the only one... ummm, yeah. Lame. And I'm not sure how that's supposed to make anyone other than him enjoy the game or the devs more. -
It's a joking response to someone complaining that he didn't do something about a non-animation bug. It's a fair way of responding, especially when the poster he was responding to had been around a long time.
Also, one should be careful to complain about something before they know how the system works. Someone complaining about an animation change because they want a code bug fixed isn't all that different than someone complaining to a teacher about how much money is budgeted toward building a new building. Teachers really do not make budget calls ever on buildings, so it's a silly thing to get in their face about.
I know it's not going to stop the complaining, but getting a joking response from a dev on this is a pretty nice/normal response.

Ham, BAB's posts imply that it is something he's worked on piecemeal over the years, and was never allocated development time. He's actually catching some heat for it not being in the game sooner, if you can believe that. -
Well, just to chat a bit, I wanted to note one very nice thing about HEATs in the early levels... they sure can play easily. My Warshade wasn't bad getting to six, and picking up Nova got him to twelve very quickly. Other ATs are nice early on (Stalkers, Scrappers, and Blasters come to mind), and those always stand out. Most other ATs take a bit to come in to their own.
I've been leveling a Wolf Spider, and while he hasn't been in too much danger due to his mez protection and ranged defense, he has been slower to solo... took until level 8 to get a 3rd attack, for crying out loud. But that's nothing compared to my Masterminds, Controllers, and Defenders at those levels. *shudders*
Just kind of, well, putting it out there. I hear a bunch of people supposedly having issues with their Kheldians early on, but I find them quite easy when I focus on Nova form at the start. -
Boourns!
Heh. Someone complained that a walk animation was done, while there was still a bug with TFs setting themselves too low. As BAB pointed out, he tried to fix that bug by working on animations, and it was a no go.
Though I think I'd rather have more powerset animations to choose from than walking animations. *sighs* But people want the walking thing too: we can't all get what we want. -
Okay, let me know when you run it, so I can plan for something at another time if needed (you know how I like to promote here first).
Apparently there is a... patch? We can walk now? Part of me wants to think it's an April Fool's months early, but I don't think so. -
Are you trying to run catch up TFs on Mondays, Ham, or what is your plan? Just wondering how to incorporate my catch up time, since The Golden Howler is at 32.
MG and Toril, I'd be glad to run a TF or some missions with you on Saturday or Monday if you want. I'll either bring the Howler if he needs the xp, or whatever else the team needs. -
I really hope there is some sort of strategy that we can't see (which sci fi shows like Star Trek can lend themselves to very well... there have been a few decent strategy games based on Star Trek), because otherwise, it is quite meh. Star Trek doesn't have the flair of fancy Jedi, comic book magic, or fantasy combat to fall back on, so they really should have done something to make it stand out. Tabula Rasa had some things they could have used or learned from, so I was surprised at how bland it looked.
The new Star Wars MMO should hopefully be pretty sharp (I was excited by the last one, then less than impressed by how it turned out). Bioware rarely disappoints, so that one might make difficulties for my time and budget. Ugh. -
Sounds like fun, but my Sonic Defender is at 32, and not likely to be 35 by then, since he's running with the Isolators group. Maybe I'll try joining in next time, so good luck (especially if you try the Master's run)!
-
Is STO's combat going to be more engaging than it looks on those videos, DC? I'm wondering if there is some kind of extra strategery that you can't see going on, as right now it looks like running around and firing phasers, whacking people with Klingon weapons, etc. Not much to it, and not very engaging.

I don't know much about Radiation Infection (don't have any rad characters), but I do know how it helps out. Having been hit by RI (I believe) when facing Crey Scientists, I know how it can help out... I usually drop them first so they don't kill my chance to hit.
Liquefy seems to be the same way, so I can see the similarity, thanks... didn't really know that. I'll play with it, but knowing that they need to be in the patch and that there isn't a whole lot keeping them in there if they want to leave is good to know.
I'll mess with the slotting, but I'm most interested in dropping the to hit and getting some good bonuses. I think the hold and kb will be gravy on top of that, and the defense debuff is already crazy high, anyway. -
Quote:I don't believe so. I'll look sharp with my Sonic when I play him again, but it really only seems to happen when the target dies mid-animation. I was just seeing it again the other night I was playing him. Of course, it sounds like it happens with other powers. I think Sonic is more noticeable to me because Scream has the DoT to its power. I haven't noticed it with my Energy Blaster, for instance. Is this happening if you miss your target? I recently discovered a bug with our node creation system when creating FX in a particular way and trying to play those effects when you miss your target (which creates a virtual node in a random offset around your actual target for projectiles to travel towards)
