WHAT? Hmmmmm. Hmmmm. Okay, then I guess I preferred some other cow costumes I saw of theirs! Screen caps don't always do the trick, I must admit.
And I think I prefer the tried and true black and white outfits for cows. Brown and white cows always seem wrong to me, even though I've seen plenty driving through the country. Hehe. -
Go post in the Victory forums... Scooter or someone there has a very active VG that has room, I'm fairly sure. And I have villains I will play over there as well, so maybe we'll meet at some point.
Anyway, going to the specific forum for any server you are on is a good idea. I needed to make some room on Victory and moved a couple to Champion. I found out what their global channels are over there, and I'm all set if I need to find a team. -
Oh, if only I had room. "I like to click on bombs!" would definitely be my warcry.

Quote:You're missing the point. Ranged damage can be applied over a large area and all the time, without going into melee range. If you are going to really min/max, then lot's of ranged damage is going to outdo melee damage: you don't have to move as much or activate as many powers. This is wacky, as melee attacks can be some of the strongest abilities in the game. There's no way I'd devalue a Foot Stomp, Sweep combo, Lightning Rod, or Spinspam just based entirely on the fact that they're melee.
The position of the attacks does not matter. A team merely needs damage, regardless of where it's coming from. And seriously? The "fastest, easiest teams" are the ones that get damage capped from a kin and are doing insane amounts of damage. And the only way to get that is to be in melee range. At which point your attacks may as well be melee, right?
You're missing the other part of my post where I said thank goodness we don't have to min/max to crazy amounts. Foot stomp and other aoe melee powers are pretty nice. As are some melee attacks. But I'm never going to say that any of my Scrappers are going to outdo my Blasters for sheer damage output. If you're min/maxing you don't care that melee attacks can be decent, you want the most speed at all times. Large amounts of ranged damage fits that bill, as defeat speed is what most makes up the speed of a team in this game.
To sum up, any argument saying "my Brute's damage is teh win over your Scrapper's" is moot. Because people making those arguments tend to show how they min/maxxed their Brute, Scrapper, etc. to high amounts and did some crazy thing in game. And if you really want to min/max, as these people seem to, melee damage doesn't do as well as ranged damage.
Even more, the whole AT disparity thing is MOOT. People will play what they want to play, and there is no AT in CoX that is so weak or unliked that no one will play it. The game doesn't call for such min/max levels, and any arguments using such are mostly people trying to show how powerful they made their "supercalifragilisticexpealidocious" hero or villain of the week/month/issue. -
Ummmm, whoever judged Serenity Cow (if that is indeed the picture of Serenity Cow) should hang out with Lousy Day and his friends more... they have that barnyard animals SG and really make some good animal themed costumes... I'd rank the ones I've seen of that SG over that one.
The female hero (Addy Cadabby?) looks pretty good, though this costume highlights why I would never want to judge these events. I've seen plenty of costumes on par with that one running around during regular play and Isos, too.
I'll judge writing any day... this would just be way too difficult and all the costumes would start bleeding together for me, I think (as I joked with you the other night, MP). -
Heh, that one jumped out at me, too. Made me laugh.
The computerized voices add a certain level of hilarity to this, too. It's like robots can't even believe the AE babies, to some extent.
I did have a conversation like this, too. I tried getting the genius to come to Talos Island, and he really did ask "is that near Atlas Park?" Hilarious. I was actually patient with him and tried getting him there, but he apparently thought it was too difficult and just quit out the team. -
Yeah, I liked the recharge on it, plus the range... you can easily cover a mob with it. I'm used to dealing with smaller cones like Breath of Fire, Buckshot, and Flamethrower, so it should be easy to use. I'm also going to slot it up well.
As for whether or not to get Rain of Fire, we'll see how things go as I level, I guess. -
Heck, people don't know WHAT will happen. We just like to quibble over things, argue, and some like to argue that "mine is bigger than yours."
I'm going to roll a Brute and bring it heroside after GR, but mostly because I don't really like playing a villain, and I have a ton of Tanks and Scrappers already. Even if you see a lot of Brutes blueside after GR (or Scrappers or Tanks redside) after GR doesn't mean much. It's the new shiny. Whenever there are new powersets, you see a ton of them running around, but once they're there for a bit, they tend to balance out with existing sets.
A year from now, I'm not sure if the new shiny will have worn off from GR. I hope not. But even then, only the devs will know how much people play each AT- and even then, just because one AT is played less doesn't necessarily mean it's a bad AT. -
Okay, real, honest look at how it is.
Solo: People will play whatever they feel like, and whatever your personal feelings are, people do like all of the ATs and play them. Even the slow soloers. Some people will want to melee and do crazy things like take on AVs solo, sure. But everyone plays where they want to be, and that includes all of the ATs.
Teams: If you're going to be REALLY honest, the fastest, easiest teams do NOT need melee damage. You want copious amounts of ranged AOE, and enough ST damage to get you through bosses and such. Melee damage is extraneous in such situations. If I want damage blueside, I'll prefer a Blaster over a Scrapper anytime. Going for the extremes, I'll want lots of ranged damage and support, and someone to soak up the damage that does get through. In certain content, I want someone to hold the attention of the AV while we all pound on it. So at the most, you could prefer one melee character, as they're tougher. For the rest, give me ranged damage, debuffs, and buffs.
Thankfully, we don't have to only go with overpowered teams in CoX, as I've said before. You can invite whatever the heck you want and make it work most of the time (there will always be some players that boggle you with how badly they have built their character, or how badly they play). And thank goodness for that. If I had to play like some of the people posting in this thread describe, I'd have left this game long ago: the fun and flexibility of this game is what keeps me going with it. -
Quote:Hmmmm, I was kind of hoping for one or the other. I actually managed to fit Aid Self into this blaster's build (something I've managed to do without on my other blasters, but would still like to have so I don't need to keep green inspirations handy for when the RNG hates my ranged defense), as well as tap into the epic pool a fair amount, and I'd have to drop something to pick up Rain of Fire and Shiver.ROF plays nicely with shiver and ice patch. Set down as a math equation ...
If aim + BU + fire breath + fireball = minions down + lieutenants damaged + bosses thoroughly irritated ...
... then shiver + aim + BU + ROF + fire breath + fireball = minions and lieutenants who spend most of their last few seconds vainly trying to run away. Teammates then have little else to do other than to keep alpha away from your fire/ice blaster (most mobs will never get a second shot) and to focus on taking out damaged bosses and a few slivers of life, here and there, from lieutenants.
I guess having both feels a bit like overdoing it to me, but they're both utility powers, so it's hard to discount either of them. Darn Rain of Fire just looks so cool, too.
I could dump Melt Armor, since it doesn't debuff THAT much, but it still helps. And it's always nice to have a "screw you" power like Rise of the Phoenix handy on a Blaster, even though my Blasters don't die much. -
Why do people act like support toons are needed? I've been on all Tanker and Scrapper teams and not noticed the lack at all.
See what I did there? That's the way CoX is... you don't NEED any one AT, or any particular combination. You can run with all Blaster teams, etc. That's what is great fun for me about the game, though it can get potentially too easy sometimes, given that.
For the record, I have never done what you said: "acting like it's unacceptable to require buffs for team-content." I'm fine with some good challenges.
It's good to note what you said, though. No team "needs" a Tanker. Nor does any team need a Brute. Or any character, for that matter- any team can interchange AT combinations and succeed. People have done all Blaster STFs, for crying out loud. So no more of this AT disparity stuff. People will play what they want, and they all have a place on a team.
To a large extent, excluding certain ATs or powersets from a team in CoX says a lot more about the person doing the excluding, rather than the true balance of powers and ATs in Cox. -
Tankers are... unpopular? For who? Other than people trying to max the numbers and restrict spots on their teams to only those who "dial it to 11," there isn't any AT that's unuseful or won't add something to a team.
Arguably, Tankers and Defenders have the least useful inherents (and that mostly while soloing), and Brutes are perhaps a tad overpowered for some of their cap levels, but that doesn't change the fact that players enjoy playing all of the ATs, and they can all add something to a team.
People are also going to like more what they are at base, without buffs. I don't like being dependent on other players for being strong enough for certain things, as then I get nervous if the buffs start blinking. AT disparities are over argued and overdone among forumites, in my opinion. -
Quote:Ditto. I play on Victory and people are teaming all the time, though all servers are going to have slow periods. Victory has a lot of players in the Central and Eastern time zones, apparently, so that can affect your experience.I play exclusively on Victory, and I NEVER have a problem finding a team/TF/SF.
Regardless of the server on which you play, learn to use your global channels -- they are the key to finding the activity (see each individual server's forum for the channels specific to the various servers).
Basically, Freedom and Virtue have the highest populations... the other servers seem to fluctuate depending on the day, really. I've seen Victory right behind Freedom and Virtue some days, and last on the list other days... and that's just based on server load.
So, end of story. No matter where you go, use your server's channels and create your own teams... those are the biggest things you can do to to find teams: and they are out there on every server. No matter what, though, you should stay on Victory! Join the Victory Forum and Victory Badges 2009 channel, and you will find teams forming a lot. We can be grumpy sometimes, but we're fun! -
I don't even know how to check for someone's birthday, so I just post in the threads when people see it. So happy birthday to you too, Struder.

Okay, so I'm at long last getting to one of my Blasters that I made a long time ago (a goofy setup for him... his heroic side was brought out when some Hellions destroyed the restaurant he worked at as a maitre'd. And his name is Maitre d'Flame, heh).
Anyway, some power picks are pretty obvious for me, but I'm unsure of the usefulness of a few.
I'm going to grab Ice Sword just for some up close punch when I need it, but I am hoping to not be much of a Blapper with him... I'm going to focus on my AOEs and high damage to avoid that. For added mitigation, though, I'm not sure if I should grab Shiver or Rain of Fire. Shiver seems better, as it'll slow my opponents, but keep them clumped for all my AOE powers, and I know Rain of Fire really scatters things. But it can be nice for when the gross stuff hits the fan, too.
Anyway, what are thoughts on that? Anyone else play much Fire/Ice and have thoughts they could share above and beyond the scanty guides I found? -
Ultimo, having a good build setup for your Blaster is pretty key. I usually try to be able to stack my holds or disorients so I can handle bosses (so choosing secondaries and primaries helps there) okay, but juggling them with KB powers works great for Energy/Energy. No matter what, keeping out of melee (unless those you're in melee with can't fight back) is a very good idea for a Blaster: ranged attacks usually do less damage. This can be even better if you up your ranged defense to about 30%. That works pretty well with my blasters that I've gotten into the higher levels.
Do realize that sometimes the RNG will hate you, and you might get hit more than usua. If you're out of melee, though, you should hopefully be able to survive it... especially if you pick up a shield from your epic.
Also, hitting hard and fast is a good idea for any fight. EBs kind of make that tricky, so popping a purple or two like you did is a good idea, as is an orange just in case. Case in point, Sefu Tendaji of the RWZ arc was tricky to beat for my Kat/SR Scrapper, but my AR/En blaster soloed him quicker and actually a little easier than the Scrapper... though he did use a couple insps to do it. -
Eh, more complicated than that. If there are foes at range, Taunt can usually be better than running over to them. But yes, most of the time you can get more mileage from attacking a lot and keeping your aura going.

Okay, so here's my plan. I participate in the Tanker Tuesdays on Champion when I can, so I already have two tanks there, and I know it's a good server. I had a one hero SG that I was SLOWLY working on that I am going to coalition with Peterbilt when I get the chance. If you want to join this SG, let me know (I don't know if Peterbilt has room in his SG, it sounded full from something he said to me, but he can correct me). I would rather keep it to people I at least somewhat know from Victory, just to keep that spirit going if we're ever on these alts... plus I know I can trust you if we throw some salvage in the bins.
Do keep in mind that I hadn't done anything with this SG just yet, as I was building up some influence SLOWLY with just one hero, as I hadn't found anyone to help me invite my couple of heroes over there. I am, however, willing to work on building the base once we get some funds. I'll probably concentrate on some storage and the invention table first, then move on to whatever we want. Peterbilt already has most of the porters, so if we add anything from there, it might be to the zones that he doesn't have porters to.
Anyway, let me know. Penny and I have discussed joining forces with our few heroes on Champion already, so I thought I would toss it out here to other Victoryites. -
Quote:Toril... ummm, what's up? You okay? Need a candy cane? Need us to make a joke at Voo's expense?Never saw or heard anything about walkins til day of. If I had known about walkins I wouldn't have bothered to even sign up as I had other things to do on a Sat night.
F the walkins.
If they couldn't be bothered to sign up, judges shouldn't be bothered by them either.
They've already explained it, and while I didn't know there were going to be walk-ins until MP announced it in channels, it's not a big deal. If anything, more competition means a lot more. I didn't win even a runner up nod, but I would have felt kind of meh about winning or getting runner up if I was only running against three other people (which is how many signed up for the male heroes category, like my guy). Plus, you got judged before the walk-ins and didn't have to wait with all the crazies in Pocket D.
Anyway, you're better than this post. Buck up! It's a fun event whether you win or not. -
I don't see any need to merge servers, personally. I've heard people try to call Victory dead over the years, but they're just not looking. We clearly don't have issues getting teams and Task Forces together. It's the same for the other servers that are considered "small."
Plus, merging servers is seen as a "death knell" for a MMORPG, so it really would be a bad idea in that sense. I also think it wouldn't be a good idea to do this when they're letting out another expansion. It gives the wrong impression (believe it or not, there are doomsayers that are afraid of joining CoX because NCSoft supposedly randomly shuts down their MMOs), and they may want all that space depending on how well GR does.
At any rate, merging servers causes unneeded headaches for players and the devs, and sends a negative impression to many. And the only reason to merge is if populations are too low on any given server, which is an iffy prospect for any player to prove, and is regularly shot down by people playing regularly on all our servers. Given all that, why merge? -
I also don't see this getting changed again. Castle just looked at this and upped the base speed for Fly and Hover, so I would guess that they are "happy" with where it's at. I do wish I could go a little faster than 60 MPH sometimes, but Flight is a pretty nice power as is. As Aett said, you can set your destination and go away for a little. I use it all the time if I need to get a drink, etc., and sometimes get annoyed when I can't do this on my SJ or SS characters.
I do wish enhancements could do a little more for Hover, as you still can't get up to Sprint speeds after investing in the Fitness pool and tossing two extra slots in hover, but I guess that's the drawback of the 3D movement, extra defense from mobs (both by defense to all and being out of reach of melee). And it's still a LOT better than it used to be... I don't plop from Hover to Sprint between mobs much anymore.
