  1. Hmmmmm.

*adds to list* "Make an MA mission with samurai in it."
  2. Recharge is good, but having a decent amount of defense is also needed. Mobs are always going to fire back at some point, and all the recharge in the world isn't going to help much then if they overwhelm your green bar.

On endurance, I just build for it. I took Consume at 49, but honestly I could live without it. And I don't have PP.

As for feeling tanky, my personal preference is to cap defense, either Melee or Smashing/Lethal (the best option, imo).
Temperature Protection isn't a power you need ASAP right away, but it is plenty useful. Fire Tanks generally are going to be hit by debuffs because they don't have defenses of their own. There are also a lot of slow debuffs in game, and Fiery Aura wants to recharge fast (Healing Flames and damage buffs). Given all that, it's a good idea to get Temperature Protection for the slow resists themselves. Tonight is the last night for the holiday event, but you can run and get a Winter's Gift -slow recipe still.

Take those two together, and that's 40% right there. I notice the difference when moving between the two builds on my Fiery Aura tank (one of which has the 40% resist, the other doesn't).
  4. I'm not sure what Dual Blades would have to do with aggro. It's a perfectly fine set for a Tanker, and you can keep aggro with it fine if you use it right. But if you don't make good picks for your primary and secondary, or use them well, you could have issues.

For any Tanker, you want to have your aura going and be attacking frequently. You can go without Taunt, but it does make it easier to keep aggro and makes it less needed for you to run after mobs.
  5. Finding teams is something people post about from time to time throughout the forums, and it has little to do with your AT (there are some who are like the posters in this thread that only look for certain types, but that's not the only approach... plenty of people like me just look for whoever is on and take whatever people want to bring. All Tanker teams can do great, same for Defenders, Controllers, etc. No need to be picky at all).

Anyway, some simple tips to help with finding teams:

    1. Make global friends. Do this after you have teamed with someone a couple of times or if they make a really good impression. People have a lot of alts, and this guarantees you will be able to find them no matter what. This ensures you'll have a pool of reliable teammates, and probably someone that will play at the same times as you (something people can forget when looking for people).

    2. Find an active SG. Easier to find teams this way. They are out there, so post in forums, track them down after teaming with them, etc.

    3. Most importantly, join your server's channels. These have developed as the place for players on each server to hang out, post that they're about to start a mission, TF, etc. This makes things better and less scattershot than just broadcasting. It's also easier to get to know people here, as it uses their global name, not just the character they are on currently.

Case in point. I have had a couple of alts on Champion for Tanker Tuesdays, but never really noticed TFs or anything starting while playing there at odd times (Victory is my home server). If I were to go with that experience, I would wonder if not much is going on around Champion. But then I joined the main channels, and suddenly saw lots of chatter, TFs starting, etc. Channels are where the activity is at.

    4. Form your own teams. Plenty of people are looking for teams, but fewer are willing to form their own. This is hardly a chore with our ability to bind, cut and paste, etc. Form a team message, and post it on your server's channels, and look for people using the search function. Doesn't take long, and it gets easier the more you do it. People like playing with people they know, and they'll get to know you.

My favorite idea was moving all the Dev Choice/HoF to a separate tab and making the main search page a mix of a few random Dev Choice, HoF, 5 star, & 4 star arcs so it's always fresh, with new content, and not always the same Dev/HoF arcs.

As it is, MA has the appearance of being stale. Since there's so many Dev Choice arcs, it's always, pretty much, the same ones up front. There's tons of new and exciting content that most players never know is out there.
I think those are excellent ideas to freshen up that page. Maybe even some options to see what's being played now, what's hot (most played for the last day, etc.) would be nice. There really is so much out there some variables would be nice.
  7. You should be fine. Just announce in channels, broadcast, and you'll get the people. There will be plenty of people realizing they need candy canes, or the badges, or the merits, or want to do it one last time. Heh. TWO groups did it at almost the same time last night on villains, and this was about 10:30 Central, after primetime on Victory.
  8. I agree, Techbot, we need more filtering options. I have four stars averaged out on my arc, and it's been stalled out on 29 ratings now. Would like to see some random playtime, as I think it's worthwhile. Oh well. Makes it kind of hard to get me excited about making another arc... I have some ideas, but feel kind of meh about trying them.

As for this article, what is up with marketing and the website lately? It used to be we would know about articles like this from the website right away. And the Going Rogue stuff... nada. I saw it mentioned in an article on Gamespy, no mention of it here. No update on the info they were willing to hand out at Herocon, etc.

I liked this article, and I liked hearing that NCSoft was willing to give the devs this opening. That says a LOT about the developers and NCSoft. Yet... they don't seem to want people to know. What's up with that? I know they have people that can update the site (they did just put up that one article), so why aren't they staying sharp with everything else? It doesn't make sense.
  9. Wow, how is it this wasn't known about already? It's been around for ages (shows up on the maps using this room for the Vanguard story arcs, too), and I just assumed that was some bug that the devs were trying to find a workaround for. *sighs* Guess I just have to keep bugging things constantly for them to even be noticed?

I really, really do not like the whole "go back to high school thing." The themes mentioned in that first article are no different from what the series was already plumbing with Raimi's stuff, anyway.

I have no idea why they need a reboot, anyway. Superman Returns wasn't exactly hard to follow even though it was supposedly after Superman 2 way back when. Just make another Spiderman with different actors... audiences WILL figure it out.
  11. Okay, I am on and ready to go. Thanks all, and Mz. Nibbles for getting me in, I appreciate it!
  12. So, I've always had a Tanker on Champion for Tanker Tuesdays. But now I have a few more heroes after the free server swap period, so I would like to know what global channels I should join on Champion.

I saw Acemace's post about this stickied, but I wasn't sure which to join. I tried Champion BMT, and got the message about it being essentially "dead." Where should I go? Thanks for your help!
  13. Hmmmm, one can only hope that GR will not accompany a large amount of nerfs, then. And from what we know of what that is giving us, I don't know what they would nerf. So a better trend, there, perhaps?
  14. Ah, thanks much. I was looking on the listing of story arcs.

That... is not going to happen. Because the amount of time needed for the merits is what players tend to go by, and that is what was wrong with the system before merits (Dr. Quarterfield or Positron netted the same reward as a Katie Hannon TF).

Personally, I like the change. I see people playing a large variety of TFs and being interested in playing different ones- much more so than before the change. Even Katie Hannon gets some attention, even though that TF arguably nets less merits than it should because of past farming.

The shortcoming for villainside (if there is that big of one) is that there is less content to choose from, so you could run out of arcs to run before you outlevel a range (I haven't been having that issue with mine, though), also meaning you could get less merits overall in that level range than blueside.

One other thought seen in this thread is people saying how fast they finish a TF. Anecdotal player evidence is never going to fly for some of these, as... yeah, it's anecdotal. Farm teams will probably be able to lower the time dramatically, but we don't have the data to see what the average times are and to balance the merits out.

Heck, my times on TFs can flucutate a lot, too. I would want the time I ran the Manticore TF in this last weekend to be the bar, as that was my fastest ever... by large margin. Datamining for average completion time is the way to go for completion to reward ratios, I would say.
  16. Yeah, if you're in a situation where you need Aid Self, you'll probably have mobs getting through your defenses somehow (unless you really want to bravely, bravely run a long ways away), so you'll not want it interrupted.

In all honesty for my Shield Tank, it was a toss up between Tough and Aid Self. I went with Tough, as it gives you a bit more reaction time if your defenses have been compromised (you can jump out of that mob of Romans, have longer to pop OWTS or an orange inspiration, etc.), but I did wish I could have both.
  17. Ah, yes... I knew there was a reason I went for Tough so I could survive the damage that got through on my Shield Tanker at those weird times.

I always hate Devouring Earth, but fighting them on eight man teams with my Shield Tanker reaffirmed my dislike of them. They're an odd group that I don't find interesting and has annoying buffs and debuffs. I avoid them completely.

    To Boldly Go....

After running through a Shard TF with Voo last summer, I decided I really should try to check out the story arcs there. Because yeah... I just assumed that they were there and I had never bothered.

I guess I had never bothered with Grey Pilgrim when it started out both because of the travel issues, and because there isn't an story arcs. That's just... bad, to me. It's a fun and unique zone, and they've made it less and less of an issue to travel there, too. I'd like to see them go back there almost as much as Boomtown, DA, and some more arcs redside.

As for the other stuff, I knew most of what Konshu said, and that's from playing... I rarely read up on anything on the wiki. That's because I solo and read the text and *gasp* read it.... I'll even do this while on a team. I didn't really know that the sea monster in Striga is a Coralax, though. Is that detailed somewhere, or is that just a guess? If it is, they really should update that, too. Wouldn't be that hard to replace the box with a hostage Coralax... one of us could do that with AE in about 2 seconds.

I actually like CoX because it does have a strong storyline for a lot of its stuff. I enjoy the stories and read them. When I played WoW, I liked the environment, but I didn't get a storyline feel for too much of it. The most involved thing I really did was getting a special Warmace for my Paladin, and that was only entertwined because a smith told me to go to a bunch of places. It sounds like they have more storyline with newer stuff, but I feel like CoX has the stronger storylines, personally. May be aesthetics there, but not entirely, I think.

DC, from what I've read, isn't STO going to be like CO? So they're going to have server shards... everyone is in the same spot, but they'll get moved to different shards depending on load, rather than having entirely different zones.

I'll have to shout out if I get into the Open Beta. I would like to check it out with people I know as well. May all be moot as I doubt I'll have much money for it, but we'll see.
  19. I may be able to join in with my Sonic/Sonic next week. This is the last week I can make Isos with him because of my schedule this semester, so I'll have to do something to finish him up to 50, unfortunately. We'll see how my schedule looks next weekend.

I was thinking of mobs like Nemesis and Devouring Earth, which can get + to-hit (forget exactly the kind of buff Quartzes drop... either to accuracy or to-hit.... pretty sure it's to-hit, though). Those were probably the mobs that gave my Shield tank the most troubles, as Vengeance Stacked mobs were suddenly able to bypass his defenses. One With the Shield helped there, as well as picking up Tough.

Cimeroran's defense debuffs are always annoying... being a little over the def cap certainly helps there, and an eagle eye for your defense levels. If you get hit once or twice, it's a good idea to either hop out of melee range (the debuffs drop fairly fast, so moving helps a lot), or to pop a defense inspiration. Tough is helpful as well.

In my AE arcs, I customize all of my named bosses as a matter of course. It's normally not that big of a deal.
Yeah, in my arc in my sig, I have a Warrior boss, and I did customize him (both powers and his look... he has the Warrior look, but with differentiations... I tried to give him a different looking broadsword, he has a scar going over one eye, etc.). So I understand the need for that.

At the same time, it's not always needed. I liked the Crown of Glory arc, and the dialogue text did a lot for me to differentiate those. I also soloed it on my DM/WP Scrapper, so I was rather hard pressed not to get killed in two hits during all those fights. I can't recall if the final boss for that one had a slightly different look or not. There, I do want more than a specific name and dialogue. It's kind of a balance between always having a unique look and not.

On another angle brought up earlier, I'm trying to get in to the Star Trek beta, as I figure that's the only I'll be able to check it out for free. Reading up and watching videos, the space combat does sound more interesting than what I had first seen- there's a lot of customization options, etc. How much those really affect things remains to be seen, of course, but it's better than I thought. I do cringe at some of the videos and setup for the ships... depending on the ship, you can tank more, do more DPS, do more support, etc. Using MMO terms like that... especially for huge ships in the Trek universe just... rubs me the wrong way. They would have been better off just to talk about the ship capabilities to me, as this does kind of break the Trek feel to think "I'm in a ship like the Enterprise, so I can tank for my team."

They don't have much there for the away missions, which worry me as well. We'll see, I guess.
  22. Well stated, Thirty-Seven. You hit the nail on the head with most of your points.

Perhaps I missed this as well from another post, but such behavior (as in chat anyone can see, not in private channels or tells) is definitely against the EULA. I also believe Castle just posted on a thread about this a week or so ago, saying if you "see" this kind of thing, it should be reported.

NCSoft makes the rules for the game, and such is against the rules. There are good reasons for those rules, as well.
  23. I would assume enemy creation is from a large group of people, actually. Powers would need to be balanced, the look of them would need to be tweaked, animations would be needed, etc. Given that, one specific dev would be unhelpful.

Though I'm sure Positron has a lot of say in giving an enemy group the go ahead.

Passing the soft cap does help when encountering enemies that have a higher chance to hit- either from being higher level, or from to-hit buffs. It also gives you some cushion from defense debuffs dropping you below that 45% mark (which can happen with some mobs if the game hates you).

You probably don't have to overdo it (especially since you can pop an inspiration if things really go south), but going over isn't necessarily a bad thing, especially a Tanker or Brute. Also make sure you don't ignore other benefits when going for more defense, either... more regen, picking up Tough, etc. could have other benefits as well. It sounds like you're taking that into account, but I figured I would throw that out there.
  25. Well, depending on the tank, you may still have aggro peeled off of you. If I'm with an Ice tank, I would expect it to take a lot of aggro (well, as long as it had both auras running). Icicles and Chilling Embrace gains a lot of attention.

Heck Chilling Embrace does on its own... my Ice/EM picks up more aggro than he can handle most Tanker Tuesdays.
