So Graver...what's next?
[/ QUOTE ]
Gah, sorry. I forgot to update my queue listing. It has been updated though. And next is finishing up Countess Ivy. I'll have an update on that WIP very soon... as soon as I have enough paint down to warrant unstrapping the paper to scan it -
Wow, totally nifty art there!
That's not only a great costume, but a great drawing as well! -
oooo, nice acquisition there, Rox! I love those bold lines!
Edit: and why didn't I recognize that for a Shia piece immediately? You fooled me with a real name, Rox! Shame on you!
That crazy bold line work and rich color should b=have clued me in right when i saw it instead of a few minutes latter. Great work Shia! -

compleat?
It's "Complete" unless I am being retarded about something.
Also: Great job.

Fine, I guess there's just no room in this world for creative spellersI THINK OUTSIDE THE BOCKS!
Thanks though... and the subject line has been edited to a less creative and infinitely more boring form of compleat.
And thanks all for the complements! I'm glad the piece is well liked -
-
First off, I got a title for my formally untitled piece, Trials... but I guess that's kind of self explanatory. Beyond that, it's finally finally done (thought that would never happen, didn't ya?)
Either way, if you wanna check it out, it is [http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/43032566/]here[/url]. -
Well, it's about time you posted something new
Letting little things like work and school interfere with a hobby, I tell you, kids these days *shakes head*. Why, when i went to school, we didn't let being learned nuttin or going to no work like job get in the way of doing other stuff and just look n see how I done turned out. *looks around at the impoverished squalor he lives in* Oh ya... right... um, stick with that school and work thing!
Seriously, I really dig your new piece. I absolutely love that blade. It's so damned metallic and shiny. Excellent freaking work on it! The pose is great too, very KoA with a nice simple design and layout. Great work.
About the only thing that might could use some imporvemnt (I'm just knit-picking here) is her pants look a touch shapeless. Maybe just a touch more work on the seams will make them look a touch more tailored. Maybe even just finishing out that seam on the leg to the left that got hijacked by the crotch wrinkle will help with that. Of course, thats all just me being looking for something
Now, you seriously need to post more stuff -
I'd say your off to a good start here! (though I didn't know gnomes had such broad shoulders
). The nice bold lines are great to look at as well.
As for areas to work on, you need to work on your center line. On his head, it looks as though his beard is out of alignment and should be moved to the left by about 3/4 the length of half his mustache. The divide of his shirt should also be moved over by the same amount to match up with his crotch.
In the future, it looks like you might want to work a bit on putting down the basic frame work of the character with guidelines and simple shapes to make sure that when you start putting on all the clothing and accessories and what-not, it all fits right on the body and lines up
Still, great start there! Hope I've been of some help as well. -
Well, I was hopping to be done with this one by now, but no such luck. So, instead, i have a lovely update.
There's... a lot of work to go... ya.
U P D A T E
PS: no, it's perfectly okay to love Fluffy more then the heroes... so much love and work went into him -
Okay, this thread made me bust a gut! So... I gotta contribute something... I give you your next holiday meal...
Hami Hami! -
Serengeti_Lord, I think you missed the archnemisis by a hairs breath. The archnemisis is can very well be what one fears, but it really goes beyond that. Obsession is also in there, but again, it goes further. The best way to really think about the archnemisis / hero dynamic is through a Jungian point of view.
In a Jungian perspective, the hero represents the ego. He / she is our self image, what we think of when we think "me" though in the superhero vein, I guess the hero is a bit closer to who what we'd like to think of our selves as. Either way, the analogy still stands.
Now, the archvillan represents the shadow. Just as the hero is what we'd like to think of our selves as, the archvillan, or shadow, is everything we deny about our selves. The shadow is all those things we can't admit about our selves, all those horrible things about who we are that we just don't want to own up to.
In the Batman / Joker dynamic, the Joker truly represents everything Batman would never and could never admit about himself. His cold calculating distance and dark avenger like aura all work to hide the fact that he's just a obsessed lunatic with a borderline personality disassociation disorder from himself. The Joker is Batman unrepressed. Everything Batman works very hard at not being (but still deep down is) is the Joker.
In the Jungian psychological model, we can only ever truly know our selves once we have finally confronted out shadow and owned up to it. That, in essence is what every battle between the hero and the archnemisis is.
Either way, figure out who the WP is. Once you do that, an archnemisis shouldn't be hard to realize... it will seem completely natural and you wont need any gimmicks to make it work. Those will end up just being the icing on the cake as opposed to the meat of the meal. -

oops, my bad. Just checked, guys are fine with their trench's, sleeveless or not. Women are the only ones who'll be packing extra junk in the trunk when putting on the trench. -
[ QUOTE ]
Are you defense or prosecution, Radey?
I know a tiiiiiiiiiny teeeeeeeeeeeny bit about law.
[/ QUOTE ]
She's a defender... Rad/Dark if I remember
But, no, she dosn't prosecute (that did not pay enough at all in NO... she'd have to work a second job if she were to do that). In fact, just last week she had this client that was accused of killing her husband, which all of the evedance clearly supported. Well, Star had a gut feeling that the woman really was innocent like she protessted, so she took the case! She knew it wasn't going to be easy with so much stacked against her client. In fact, the only way she saw to get her client out of the false alligations was to find the real killer her self.
So Star started going over all of the evidence looking for that one crucial piece that was somehow overlooked, and she found it! Unfortunately, when she finally pieced the dastardly puzzle of who really killed Mr Winton, her clients twins sister's masked Mexican lover burst into the room with a gun intent on silencing Star and insuring the frame up went without a hitch. Oh and it almost did to!
Starchasm and her assailant struggled for the gun but he, being a large man, was able to gain the upper hand over the petite crime solving southern layer (who, no matter what, never has messy hair and always wears perfect makeup... even in the shower!). It would have been over for both Star and Mrs Winton if it wasn't for Detective Guy who, knowing Starchasm was up to something (and having romantic feelings for Star which conflicted dramatically with the flame he still held for his ex wife), had tailed her and saw Mrs. Winton's twin sister's masked Mexican lover breaking into the crime scene.
Well, long story short, he burst in, shot Stars assailant, and Mrs. Winton's twin sister was tried and convicted for the murder of Mr. Winton and all charges against Mrs. Winton were dropped. I just can't wait to see what murder mystery she'll solve next week to get her client off the hook! -
*shakes his head and groans at your math*

I hate you...You get wings...And does anyone know *Starts praying* if you can have sleeveless trenches so I can have my Large Robotic Gloves with the trenches *keeps on praying.*

And BAS, yup, you can, but fair warning... it may look like your smuggling a small refugee family in your back pocket... sleeveless or not -
wow, that's sweet. I love the line work used on it as well as those hands!
-
Wow, this one is looking right nice there! The back lighting you used is real nice and those wings are gonna rock! I love the tail you added as well, very nice.
One thing i noticed though, is he seems to have some right nice birthin' hips there. You might want to shave a little bit off of the roundness of the hip to the left... unless he's supposed to be full figured
Great stuff though! -
Lookin' good so far! I love the face and the "paint' already applied to it... the eye is particularly appealing. I just love it's shape!
-
Well, welcome to posting in the art forums Omen, and bit of intriguing idea there too. I decided to take a small break from painting to let my eyes readjust again and whipped out a piece for your lill' challenge here. Since I chose to draw my main, Absinthium, I really couldn't capitalize on the whole utter despair aspect (her hideously short attention span kinda prevents despair from really grabbing a hold of her...) I did get something down more in the "downtrodden, bested, but not destroyed" category.
In m'brain, I'm a hero!
And Jimson, man, Crimson's face is EXCELLENT! It really plows us over with his frustration and despair... great job 9as usual). That and the rigid looking headgear really help to add to the feel. Excellent!
And Omen, your's is coming along quite well. The figures shoulders and posture are great. Nice! I would suggest that, in the background, you make the moon a bit more hazy. There seems to be a lot of clouds in the sky yet the moon has a very crisp outline, it makes it appear to be in front of the clouds as opposed to miles and miles behind them
And Derek, the issues you might be having with the chest is that not enough is shown. It a persons head is held that far up, the chest will have to bend up more to allow the head to do that. As the chest it's self can not bend, that vend is going to come from the abdomen. All in all, this will allow a bit more of the chest to be seen... maybe about 2x what you have there.
Any time your having problems with position, try to mimic the position your self and, if at all possible, get your self a mirror to look in. Really pay attention to what your body is doing as well as what points have the most weight. Remember that when you sit back down to draw and really focus in on those areas where the weight was (those are the most important parts of the pose, all else will revolve around those areas. Get those places right and the rest of the figure should fall into place a bit easer. -
Well, damn, you two don't think much of my inelegance, do ya?
Ya, they's checked, every thing's checked... did so to see if I could get anything by juggs to show up in my watch... only his journal entries show upNever his art, never his scraps, just his journal. Of course, I've gotten word that my art doesn't always pop up in others watch lists, sometimes newly submitted deviations wont show up in a browsable gallery for a day or so... sometimes longer for scraps... so, I guess it's just par for the course on DA :/
-
I'd definitely say that a main gallery or, heaven forbid, a regularly updated fan art gallery would be quite nice! I would also have to totally second what Gill said- I would love just a touch of support from Big Brother... or maybe to not have to fear them so much for what we do.
Beyond all of that, another small suggestion which I know is in your realm and would make several of us quite happy... can threads with art of characters of events from a specific server not always get moved from that servers forum over to here just because it's fan art? A lot of people don't check these forums and if we're doing art for the community of that server, well, hell, they need to see it.
Oh, and I would love to have a new van, that would be sweet... and world piece and pot in every car and chicken in every garage... or... um... something like that. -
Because they have a special forum just for art, silly.
Glad it got moved, though or else i might have missed this one (why in gods name does none of your pieces appear in my Deviant Art watch thingie? Your journals appear just fine, just not your art)
Either way, on to the piece, and might I say what a damned fine piece it isThe lighting you used is very nice and your color choices are dead on excelent!
Great work! -
oooooo.... sweet work there! I love what he did with Poison Ivy in that pice, great pose for her. And the glowy grass disk is quite unique... I would have never thought of that one XD
Great piece there. -
Thanks for the suggestions there, Serengeti! The relation of the monster to the heroes in this one (it's size, position, the perspective I needed to use to get it all to work, make it feel big without dwarfing the heroes, etc) drove me nuts for many a day. I played with angles until my head was about to blow up
. Layout-wise, this is darn close to about as good as i can get it. I still might tweak the size of the monster a touch and all, but I think the main weapon left to me to insure focus is on the heroes first and monster second will be detail.
I'm planing on having the monster half shrouded in a misty fog (like a lot of my backgrounds) with parts poking out towards the heroes. The heroes will both be highly detailed and not at all shrouded and indistinct. I think that should fix the focusing issue... at least I hope
-
Thanks for the comments all, and, Foo, I totally didn't realize that in the penciled version it's not too clear that her "cupping" (why oh why do I never see those things?) hand will be holding (is holding I think) something jiggly, red, and drippy (possibly raspberry jell-o but more likely a nice heart) with little shoots and plants close to the floor lapping up the delicious nourishment that drips down from on high.
Edit: and no, Thorn, that isn't me... this is the first MMORPG I've ever playedGraver isn't exactly a suppa unique name though. Hell, I can't even get a chr named that on my home server 'cause someone else done took the name
And I had to go with Graver13 on DA because some little numb-nut went and registered with the name on 06/2004 and hasn't even logged back in since then! The universe, it toys with me, IT TOYS WITH ME!
-
Na... I think for the sholder fix... no more then a day of work (tops... mybe just a few hrs and I'll have it corrected). This is why i post WIPs... it honistly sucks to have thiose things pointed out when the piece is done and all you can think is "By Gods Left Tenticle, why oh why did no one tell me this when i was still bale to do something about it?!"
