Fist, to vex, nice render there! and to mirror a former question asked a bit up on this thread, did you do any post render touchups in PS? Looks damned good though, and Suppa, you got yer self one nice piece!
Of ART! Get yer minds outa that gutter, sheesh.

Well, don't say that playing video games and reading gaming forums teaches you nothing! You learn something new every day. Bishonen huh? I think TA could be persuaded to get one of those. Put new meaning to Thor's Assassin vs. Assassin of Thor.
[/ QUOTE ]
Actually, wouldn't that be something called yaoi? Single pretty boy is the Bishonen, more then that, yaoi... at least this is the way I understand it from Scarf_Girl and Starchasm... *looks around* they're freaks... FREAKS! -

Actually i have NO Idea how i'm going to scan the stuff i'll be doing in class... the pads that the instructor wanted are 18x24... freaking GINORMOUS. O.o
[/ QUOTE ]
That's because your about to learn to draw with your shoulder instead of your wrist... before it's over, that pad's gonna seem pretty small -
As for old-school drawings, first, Gill, man, I thought the goal was to post something that really sucked? When the hell are ya gonna do that?
. And while I'm ranting, Darkjedi, while the painting you posted was nice and old-school (were you inspired by a church somewhere? I seem to recall some little church somewhere having a painting like that on their wall or ceiling or some such
)... you need to stop being a wuss and post some old work or so help me, I'll... I'll... I'll... um... do... absolutely nothing. That's right, NOTHING! hah
Before I post mine though, I just wanna say to the Squirrel, some of that old work you posted is pretty good. Death from above stands out in my mind. It wasn't bad at all
And NewEden, um, server can't be found.
Okay, and now for my bad (and not the 80's kind of bad either) old-school work...
The oldest I still have is from 89 or so (around the 7th grade). These were characters made for the first rpg I ever played (without making the whole game up) TMNT and Other Strangeness (ya, not only a nerd, but a bad one at that, but TMNT was all the rage then).
Mutants and their Space Ship: '89
Next up is 90... approximately the 8th grade if memory serves. This is the main character I used to play in any rpg I could find. This is his Rift's version along with more vehicles... the motorcycles the group used to travel around on... I wasn't too good with motorcycles XD
Gunbunny and Motorcycles '90
In 91 (approximately 9th grade... the latter half) I had just started figuring out cross hatching. I put the poorly applied colored pencils aside and began focusing on just ink. These are yet more characters from pen and paper rpg's that I played. Also, as a side note, this is what happens when you use cheep non archival ink on cheep paper (though I think I like it)
Benton, Becka, some chr I can't even remember, and Gunbunny: '91
More of the same from 92 (10th grade), though I had started drawing a bit bigger (using a full sheet of copy paper now)...
Janice, Ozzie, and the D.W.I, Mar and Paragon
93, around my junior year and going into the first part of my senior year (before I just stopped going) I had gotten obsessed with sharpies and had started using them, Xeroxing the drawing and then using markers to color it. I have since lost the colored versions, but I still have the original sharpie images.
More characters
After I stopped going to high-school, my drawing kind of fell off. I did some flyers for a garage band for a bit but pretty soon being a homeless couch surfing permafried gutterpunk kinda put a stop to things. I started back up again around '97-'98 and had fallen in love with inks. I don't have much from that time except an ink wash and a strait up ink painting.
Vampire , Bone
Okay, well, that's way more then enough from me... I gotta get back to work now, but Darkjedi, if I could do it, then so can you
-
Wow! That looks GREAT!!! I love the way you did her hands... and the colors used on the dragons face... and... well, everything! And it's not done yet???
Excellent work so far -
Color Master
Umm... actually colors fill me with terror and dread
But, the border looks good from what I could see. I like the color choice. It pull some of that oranges brownish color in the smoke in the center of the piece out to the sides, it complements the piece nicely I thought. What are you wanting the border to accomplish?
Um... if it's just bugging you, play around with it some. I'd say you probably don't want to go much lighter with it, but black would also be rather boring. If it's just color it's self that's bothering you, you can decrease the saturation though I wouldn't increase it as that would call too much attention to it. If you were gonna adjust the hue, I'd say try a hue close to the purple you used in the lettering. You definitely want to keep read in it... otherwise it would be too far removed from the scheme you set up.
That's all I can think of... seriously, I like it as its
Edit: and sorry... didn't know you had updated this thread. Ever since the boards update I have a bit of a hard time telling what threads I've read and which ones I haven't... so I just kind of randomly click stuff -
Good changes... however, the arm to the left could be a touch thicker though. It's about the same width as her extended arm but when you curl your arm up, your biceps contracts and becomes thicker. Check it out in a mirror or just look down if you don't believe me
.
Also, and this might be easily doable for you... her forearm on the curled arm is too long. When curled up to the side like her arm is with palm and fingers pointing up, the shoulder will come up almost to the top of the palm of the hand right where the fingers start. Where you have the armor plate with all the blades or what not ending is right where her wrist should be ending and hand beginning. As is, it looks as if some perv kept her on the rack too long
Sarrate was dead on with the knees as well. They are too low. They should be about halfway between the groin and soul of the foot when the leg is fully extended. You have them half way between the soul of the foot and the hem line of the skirt.
It looks like, over all, the root of your problems is the clothing and accessories are throwing you off. You know, there is a reason I draw "nude" posses to start my pieces with. It insures that I have the body and meat down and everything in proportion without having to try to see through all kinds of weird cloth and what not which makes spotting mistakes that much harder. That, and a mistake in proportion on the "nude" sketch is more easily fixed then one with all the details of the clothing and accessories already added. And to top it off, it makes adding said objects a lot easier as I'll then have a much better idea as to how they need to sit and be positioned to appear to be on the body in a believable way. It's a little extra work initially but saves a LOT of headaches, frustration, and extra work down the road. you might want to give it a try on your next piece -
Okay, I've been working on this piece off and on for a few weeks in what I laughingly call my free time
Either way, it's finally starting to take some kind of shape, though it's growth is going to be a bit slow as I'm going to be tackling this piece in my long forgotten love, oils.
Either way, here is the pose that was decided upon for the piece...
Battle-Angel: Pose
I'll be redoing the wings I think. They were the hardest part of this and took me forever and a LOT of different poses just to get the wings working with the composition instead of just being ... incidental. I'm still not happy with them as they lead the eye off and away with no return ticket. I'll be working on that...
There will be more updates at random times on this one,.. it might take a little while -

Ya, what was said before. There's several different brands out there, but after doing some research, I've come to find that, for the most part, all the other tablets are pretty much sub-par to the wacom's. For the most part, they tend to have less sensitive pens (don't pick up on your pens movement or pressure very well) but they are way cheaper... get what you pay for I guess
As wacom's go, if your really interested in picking one up, I'd say hunt ebay, you might find a bargain. A lot of the older discontinued models are going for fairly cheap, how ever, if your going for an older tablet that's not a usb, make sure you find out if it's compatible with your system. If you happen to be using an older mac, or have a adb to usb converter, then you can get a real nice 6"x8" tablet for a no more then a touch over 30 with shipping. Hell, if you want something like that, I can hook you up with a nice Intuos II 6x8 for under 20! I hate having to learn the difference between mac and pc... damned mac's! *shakes fist at macs* -
I said stuff on the DA site. Still, nice work... good to see that one finished. It does look a lot better not ebing all scribly blue pencil

Lol, just kidding, the age spread is great in this game, i thought i was getting old at 23, compared to freinds i had. I no longer feel bad.
[/ QUOTE ]
*smacks DonnchadH upside the back of his head* Yer not getting old, fruitcake! So what, when you hit 30 you'll be ancient?Damned kids these days what with their skewed sense of age and baggy pants fallin' 'round their ankles... what the hells that about, huh? Pull yer pants up, damn kids, and GET OFF MY LAWN!!!!
*glares up at TA* and you stop being a dirty old man or, so help me, I'll put you in a tutu... and I have real photos to work with this time. Don't test me, I gots art materials and I'm not afraid to use 'em!
As for what i look like, well, I look a bit like this only i have a slightly smaller head (just a touch though) and my eyes are just a bit smaller in rl, and I actually do have fingers, and I have a slightly longer body, and my feet... um... okay, how about this? Granted its not me, it's my main but I did use my self as a model for her (which probably doesn't bode well for me as a man... but she's not very womanly either!). So, ya, I do have some similarities to Abby... a lot actually, though my hair's black... or some other color... and, what? I don't have any photos of me, I'm not a freak who's in love with himself, gah! um... not that any of you are... um... I'm making a lot of enemies, aren't I? Ya... I'm just.. gonna shut up now... and bar my door.
Don't come any closer or TA gets a tutu for real! Stop! Oh gawd, he's gonna kill me now... I DON'T WANNA DIE! *curls up and sobs*
Oh another thing me an' my main share, we's both totally brain damaged, yay... DON'T KILL ME! -
Wow, the sketches really rock... very actiony! I really love the dynamism you put into your work, in every line... I can't wait to see it finished up!
And good luck with the house hunt! I don't envy you one bit. And, hey, if worse comes to worse and you get all homeless, and for some weird [censored] random reason you find your self in the butt-crack of nowhere Arkansas, there's a bed out in the hallway outside of my apartment. We used to let a homeless guy crash there last year until the funk just got too big to ignore. It's aired out since then and you'd be more the welcome to use it. I'd offer my couch, but it doesn't exist so it might be a tad uncomfortable...

Vortex reborn came out quite nice. I love the marks you make while shading in the hood, how you fallow the contours of it. It really helps pull the eye around it and establishes a sense of volume. I also like the little stitch marks on the mask (even if it was supposed to be metal... you really do need to work on your psychic powers
).
However, your assessment on the eye is right. That is about the only major flaw with the work (the cheek as you pointed out would be the other). Yup, the cheek bone is a bit high, but the outer eye is still not placed properly. It should actually be closer to the nose. In the 3/4 profile, we should still be able to see just a hint of the outer edge of the eye socket connecting the cheek bone to the brow.
Check you self out in the mirror. Get your head in the 3/4 profile and pay special attention to how your outer eye sits in its socket, how the nose overlaps it just a touch, and how you can see just a hint of the outer socket. Something to work on your next character drawing maybe?
Still, good work here! Your pencil skills are pretty sharp... just gotta work on your eye -

So, as a girl who went through a....phase, I think it looks great with the fingers open.
[/ QUOTE ]
Well then Starchasm I bow to your ummm.. personal experience at *smacking*
[/ QUOTE ]
Just don't ask her about any of her other phases *twitches and shudders*... at least the butt phase was... kinda normalish
Oh, and yes, the hand does look a lot smackier! Great job on that! However (and please don't hurt me) her thumb looks like a finger. It's jointed and positioned wrong. It should actually be on it's side where, if it were to curl up, it would bend towards the fingers. Also, it needs to be positioned closer to the wrist and coming out of the side of the hand. As length goes, it should roughly be as long as the hand it's self (sans fingers) coming to an end about where the fingers actually begin.
And I seem to have a weird obsession with that hand now...Still, it's a great piece... but it could be better
Don't hurt me! -
Sweet, now I can get to work on making that whole chorus line of TA's in tutu's doing the can-can and get that posted without fear of retribution! YES! Life is SWEET!
Oh, ya, not sweet for the big guy.. sorry to hear about the cable, man. At least you haven't gone into a murderous rage or lost you mind and secluded your self in a small dark closet with a flashlight and a computer box claiming you were looking at art... yet. I hope they get your connection back sooner as opposed to latter -
wow, looks great there, man... oh, and welcome to the boards.
The details a great as is your grasp of shading... top notch all the way. About the only thing I see that needs some improvement is the hood. It is riding way to high. Now, I know TA's head might be getting kinda big (I'm just begging for him to hunt me down and rip the spine right outa my body, I know) but I don't think it's that big. The hood should be draping over the head, supported and shaped by his skull. From what I can tell, it looks like that should really be about a hair or two above where you actually have the opening for the face in the hood.
I'm guessing you drew the hood, then placed the face in it instead of starting with the skull (even the parts that will be covered by the hood). It's best to put down the basic form of the body (or skull in this case) first even if the parts you are laboriously trying to figure out will be latter covered by a cape, hood, or what not. That way, when you do but that cloth on there, you already know exactly how it will fall and fold because you already know exactly what the form under the cloth (which gives the cloth it's shape) looks like.
Wow, okay, that was a lot. Sorry, but still, all in all, you have a great drawing there. Just don't start knocking that bar up none. Folks around these here parts don' take kindly to bars getting knocked up none... means more work for the rest of us just to keep up -
great job on the sketch and all! It has to be the best sketch I've seen from you
This one's deffinitly gonna be on the level with the Radey piece!
-
hehe, looks right good so far! Good arc to the back and a nice backside
Her hand, however, bothers me a bit. It looks more like she's gabbing her cheek as opposed to smackin' dat which she would be doing if she was telling ya to come get some. You might want to splay the fingers a bit more and straiten them out so the hand is less grabby and more smacky.
This is gonna be a nice one when you get done -
Yay, Cruse vid's!
And the "Very special/personal video" is still my favorite... it cracked me up the first time and still makes me grin... although that song, oh it does get stuck in my head in a most despicably evil way! You so need to make more! -
ah, thanks all! I'm glad everyone digs it... and damned glad the Imperial does.
This was a piece that I'd been looking forwards to doing ever since it came across my desk and the imagery hit me. I'm a sucker for anything sepia toned and have a great fondness for old things. There was actually a period where the only color I used was raw umber in an attempt to make my paintings have the same feeling as an old faded sepia toned photo. I have many brown paintings still
Now, as for what the Imperial is looking at, I'll leave that one up to the viewers to decide for themselves. I like wonder, and if I were to just up and say definitively, well, that would just take all the wonder out of it
Darkjedi, yours is on my desk right now... it's just taking me a little while since I'm working on that one in the times I'm not working on these watercolors. I swear I'll have some poses for you to go over very soon... and the canvas is still receiving my neurotically compulsive gesso - sand - gesso treatment. Soon... soon (tm). And about the same thing for you SuperMaoriFulla. Rack is currently in slot #3 right after Mr Shock. Your time is almost at hand... and oh, the images I have in my head for that one already
Now *glares at Starchasm and The Foo* as for this whole taking my head thing... no, not gonna happen. If anyone gets my head, it'll be because I decided to give it to them. So, if your nice, I might decide to give you hea... waitaminut... -

Black, yellow, and green - gotcha.
Here is the Teen Squadron logo. I hope you like.
I went with an abstract notion of a squadron for the icon, then graffiti'ed it up and added some texture to bring in the youthful / teen aspect of the group.

If you like it and would like to use it, let me know and I can get it changed up to fit your size needs for a message board and the like.

I just got the message that you did a logo for us (ya, I'm bad about checking the forumsand, wow, it's GREAT! And we so needed a good one... yes, yes, yes! Now we got soemthing to tag our turf with, yo... or some other hidiously outdates street slang, ya.
Thank you so much! -
At last, it is complete!
The Imperial: Tour of Duty
I hope it's to the Imperials liking and I want to tank you all for your kind words and critiques during it's creation. I would have to say, that, to date, this one has to be my favorite. Granted I got a bit sucked up into the background and it took a bit longer then I had originally thought, I think it was well worth it.
Either way, to all f those dyeing in my line, I again want to thank you for your patience. Up next to the chopping block is everybody's favorite spiny lizard girl, DragonBerry... in the pumpkin patch (tenitivly) followed by Mr Shock. Also, Battle-Angel is still being worked on (just not enough for a wip yet)
So keep your peepers peeled for more small watery chunks of my sanity and soul to appear here! -
Wow, loving it so far. Your inking on her is great, especially around her belly, there's some great lines there! I can't wait to see this one finished... but I am with Star... where's her star?... star d star star star...
-
Definitely your best piece so far... I love it! I think what really made it work so well is the fact that you merged the layers and then worked some more on it. That took it from looking like a colored in drawing to being something closer to a modeled painting, definitely a step in the right direction! I think you need to do that some more
