  1. The Good:

I am a big fan of several NPC's. I like Statesman's look as an iconic character, though I'd change his faceplate to a full helmet.

BaB's has a good look too.

I like Lord Recluse's look. He's EXACTLY what a villainous leader of Arachnos should look like.

I like the 'piecemiel' characters. That is Dr. Vhazilok, Wretch, Clockwork King, and Noble Savage. They all seem unique and interesting.

War Witch: Call me crazy, but I really like War Witch's design, and I want that hair style/pattern in the Costume Creator!!!

    The Bad:

Swan. I mean - really? This is what a heroine really wears?

Valkyrie: Seriously in need of an update.

Coyote: Honestly, he needs more of a classic aboriginal-style costume, and since Outbreak is going to be gone, he can move somewhere else and look cool there

    The Ugly:

Citadel: Wow does he need a re-make. Bad.

However, one character stands head and shoulders above all others in appearance:

Ghost Widow. I mean, WOW. Sinister, Evil, Sexy as Hell, all rolled into one delightfully hateful package.

    Rocket Boards?

As for Ice Slide, would the Ice Path aura and Hover not cover that? If not, it SHOULD!!!

And as far as thinking they need to run things by us first. Well, that's ludicrous, it's their game, they don't need our permission to do anything. It's nice thatthey listen to their players and make adjustments accordingly, but when all is said and done they can do whatever the hell they want, whether we like it or not.

We pay to subscribe to the game, not make decisions about what's in it. That would be like subscribing to a magazine and expecting to have a say in what the articles are about in a given issue.
While true that the do not need our permission to do anything, they DO need our money. Angering the playerbase by doing things that they don't like, will cut the flow of money.

Let's take this current circumstance as an example. The Dev's get together and decide that the CoT needs a visual upgrade. They get concept art and the dev's love the concept art. They go about creating the new CoT, and when they are done, the unleash them into the Beta.

Now the players come in and see the new CoT and the vast majority react with: Do. Not. Want.

The developers at this point have a choice to make. They can choose the ignore us, and continue ahead with a CoT look that a vast majority of the comments were negative, they can simply decide not to upgrade the CoT look, and simply keep the old look.

Or, as it appears they are doing, meeting somewhere in the middle. They are still going to change the CoT look, but they will probably go to a more classic look than the newer, much disliked, look.

Had they choose the first option, players would be angry, and this could end up hurting Paragon Studios in the pocketbook. We have great Dev's who actually listen to us, and when a vocal majority are saying don't do it, they don't.

They CAN do whatever they want. It IS their game. However, WE can choose not to play the game. WE can choose not to give them our money if they are doing things we don't like. Like most things, there comes a balance. You can't please all of the people all of the time, but for a company like Paragon Studios, you have to try to please as many as you can, otherwise you could loose the one thing you do need. Subscribers.
  5. The Dev's use open Beta for that. When the beta is opened up, GO THERE and look around. Give the dev's their feedback. Posting it on the Forums is not exactly the best idea in the world you know.

Should the dev's ask us before implementing something? Yes. In fact they do, this is why we have open and closed beta's. Why things are tested on the test server.

Should they require our permission to make any changes? No. They are the devs. This is their game. Now, it behooves them to listen to us, as we are the ones keeping them in business. When there is a large cry for "Don't change this" they listen.

Why? Because if they don't it can hurt their bottom line. They do know you can't please all of the people all of the time, but when a majority of players are decidedly against something, they do occasionally say to themselves - well geez, maybe we should do something about this.

The devs have listed to our complaints. They will be making some changes to those atrocities that were going to be the CoT. Let's see if we can get something cool out of it.

    Waiting for Open Beta.
  6. I just might show up. I'll have to check to make sure I've got my main on Test Server.

Also this isn't F2P like LOTRO (which AFAIK, I may be wrong but I saw many people state that if you have a lot of time to grind you can fully enjoy the game without paying a dime), more like a 'Freemium' model. Not as restrictive as CO, but not totally F2P if you want even decent stuff. Tho I guess you can play the entire game I played in i9 (if the IO system is free, i don't recall, but on my first toon I played with SOs till lvl 50)
No, it is NOT using the LOTRO model, at least not completely.

It is less restrictive than the COmetition, yes, but the game is not any grindier than it is now.

You DON'T get the IO system automatically, it is now tied in to the Paragon Rewards system (IIRC), and also purchasable for free players. If you've been playing since I9, I don't think you have anything to worry about though.
  8. Just to pipe in here. I both like and dislike the idea.

Here is my suggestion: Allow power customization within a theme, but for epic power pools only.

Now, epic power pools already give characters powers that are outside of their normal sphere of expertise, and by theming them, you still limit what they can choose.

    An example would be:

    Electricity Mastery
41 - Electric Fence, Charged Bolts, Charged Armor, Thunder Strike
44 - Jacob's Ladder, Shocking Bolt, Lightning Field, Lightning Bolt, Ball Lightning
47 - Power Sink, Voltaic Sentinel, Chain Induction, Gremlins

    Another example could be

    Mu Mastery
41 - Mu Lightning, Charged Armor, Electrifying Fences, Power Sink, Static Discharge, Mu Bolts
44 - Conserve Power, Ball Lightning, Thunder Strike, Surge of Power
47 - Summon Striker, Summon Guardian, Electric Shackles, Summon Adept.

To prevent abuse, you limit it so that a character cannot take a power he already has the equivalent of. (IE. A blaster can't take Charged Bolts, but could take Charged Armor).

This would allow, say, and Electric Blaster the ability to choose Gremlins, where he would normally not have access to it, but an Electric Brute can still get Ball Lightning if he wanted.

Doing it here, would not break the game, and by limiting it to theme (Electricity, Fire, Energy, Weapon, Mu, Leviathan), you are still creating a balance.

Instead of a true free-form, make the epic power pools a larger selection of choices that fit within a particular theme.

As an afterthought: This could also be done with Power Pools. Making more power options. Power pool powers are generally inferior to Primary/Secondary powers (Note: I said Generally). So adding three more sub-par melee attacks to Boxing, or a few more Sub-par interruptable healing powers to Medicine could help one flesh out a character WITHOUT breaking the game.
  9. What server?

Nevermind, I just noticed it was in the Victory section :P

    Server not Up

Today, they have the servers down to update the game to I20.5.

At 9:34 am (EDT) I checked the server status. The page said the 10 American servers were all up and the Training room is Unknown.

I attempted to login to the game and I got the message: " Account <snipped for security reasons> is not allowed on this server. reason: Access to this server is currently restricted for internal testing by NCsoft employees to verify today’s maintenance. Your access will be restored to this server once our checks and tests are complete. Thank you for your patience."

Why then does the server status page say the server is up. On previous occasions, it would have put "Unknown" for the server status.

  13. I may move a character or two to the VIP Server, just to make some room for me, I still plan on staying put.

Of course, I have a decidedly severe case of altitis, so more character slots are always a happy thing for me

I have 2 accounts, my altitis is so bad, and both are paid up until after the new year, so I'll be getting the VIP server for both accounts. That's like 24 new alts.

    O_O

    24!

    Yay! Sqeee!!

What about the new chest symbols and costume change emotes - will we have to run trials to "buy" those with the new merits?
You must have a level 50 incarnate purchase an aura before it is avaialbe to any character on your account.

Purchasing this aura simply makes the aura available as an aura selection, it does not make aura's available, and you must still get an aura unlock token or complete the aura mission arc before you can use the aura.

This is new functionality being implemented. Security is best implemented at design time and not a bolt on at the end. If they have done their homework they should have all of that already mapped out and designed as they are close to starting a beta.
Actually, I do not believe that you can use your credit card/paypal within the game itself. The online store in the game simply facilitates the usage of paragon points.

I do not recall them stating anywhere that you could purchase these points in the game, only spend them.

It's interesting, because this already exists within CoH. There is a Veteran Reward power, called Experienced. It is the 84 month vet reward (IIRC). Under the new system, this power would be available through the Paragon Points system.

Of course, it should only be purchasable once, and it can only be used five times. Patrol XP isn't really that game-breaking, and of course, everyone gets it whenever they log out anyways, so it's not like it's rare ((Actually, F2P players won't get it because they don't have access to day jobs. Unless they pay to unlock that option)).

This has been remedied by making these their own set, thus giving them proper weight in animation. Thurd, he did not want to put in weapons which did not look like they could do the damage type that the set was doing, so no pipe wrenches in Broadsword or swords in War Mace. I expect to see this set deal both Smashing and Lethal damage, or even just Smashing damage, so most weapon types apply.

Finally, and worth its own paragraph, was BABs stout refusal to put in stupid weapons in the game, like fish, clown shoes, balloon animals and suchforth, not because they were goofy so much as because they don't pack a punch. This is not the case with any of the weapons we've seen for this new set. They may be crude an unusual, but hit someone with them, and they WILL feel it. Not so with a fish, which may have weight to it, but has little structural strength when compared to metal weapons. There's always room for absurd weapons in the game. You just have to make sure they'd be at least marginally useful as actual weapons.
Joker. I will say no more.

Seeing as how if you purchased these costume pieces before (ie the magic pack or the science pack), they were global unlocks, not vouchers, I would presume that this works the same way.

The incarnate pieces are separate (though they may be available here too).

The incarnate vouchers are available through your in-game e-mail.
  19. I am going to have to re-state that I was very dissapointed with the Q&A on facebook. The devs simply did not give ANY answers that could not have been picked up from already released information in the FAQ, the Podcast, or the clarification posts on the forums.

If the devs were not interested in answering any new questions, then WHY hold a Q&A?

This, more than anything, is incredibly frustrating and very dissapointing. The dev's simply ignored most questions, and the few answers they gave answered abosolutely nothing that wasn't already in the FAQ.

Things like this tend to drive people away, not make them willing to shell out 15 bucks a month.

If this is done again, I hope the devs recognize this and start to answer more questions, even if the answer is "We can't discuss this at this time" or "This part of the project is still in the development stage" or "No Comment".

Yeah, some questions posted on FB were good questions, but I can understand them not answering them. Even some of these they may not be able to answer (such as if the pre-order stuff will be available in the store).

But really, some of these questions are not really that difficult. Currently posted information is ambiguous on certain topics (like if you drop to Premium, can you still play your Mastermind or Controller).

I think peeps would like these questions answered.

They mean going to Premium, which means they are no longer paying.
  22. Still, many people have legitimate questions that just aren't being answered. What is the point of having a question/answer period if they don't give any answers.

It's really annoying. For example of some questions:

You will be revamping Atlas Park/Mercy Island with the new issue, will the older starting arcs be available through Oroborus? Same applies to the older tutorials (Breakout/Outbreak).

Also, as a badge collector, what will happen to the veteran reward badges?

Are there plans to sell Costume Codes in the Paragon Market?

Will you be giving free and premium players a chance to earn Paragon Points without buying them (similar to what Lord of the Rings Online does where you can earn a set number of Turbine points with each deed completed)?

This is probably a tiny, petty question, but I'll ask anyway -- any chance for the Arachnos Chest emblem that was an exclusive to the CoV Collector's pack to be available for purchase with Paragon Points instead? This would also apply to other older costume parts with similar situations, of course.

I understand Master minds/Controllers and epic ATs are restricted from Free and Premium accounts, what if I purchased City of Villans specifically for Mastermind at launch will I lose access to that character (playtime 1 year on and off since beta)

For premium players that are in a Super Group and decide to go to the free to play mode.. Will they still be in the Super Group or be kicked out once they switch to the F2P?

So what's going to happen with expired trial accounts that haven't been upgraded in however long? Given there are always people asking about the name wipe and it hasn't been run in quite some time, wouldn't it be a good idea to do so *before* you (hopefully) draw in freebie people?

If I were to play premium with an Incarnate character, would I still have access to the incarnate powers and abilities I've already earned, or would those specific powers be locked out until I renewed my VIP membership?

Will NC Soft time cards still be applicable after the change?

Okay, just had a thought. I know that if you're a VIP and you go Premium and had made a MM before then you need PP to be able to unlock the use of MMs in general again. But what about ATs you unlock by other means? Example -- I recently made a Peacebringer and I go Premium. Will I be able to choose that Peacebringer as one of the toons I unlock or do I have to use PP for that as well?

Will various preorder perks be available in the Paragon Store? ie Prestige Power Slide and the GameStop Going Rouge enhancements (Might of the Empire, Syndicate Techniques, Resistance Tactics, Clockwork Efficiency, Will of the Seers)

Will New Issues cost points in the future to unlock? And Will Vet rewards that we have now CONTINUE to be available to all new toons we create in the future, or will we have to use points to unlock them under the new system?

I know I read it, but I can't find it now, but How about the unclaimed Vet rewards we have now?
  23. OK, wishlist.

A zombie-walk emote so we can emulate the cadavers.

+1 for calling it "Flushed with Pride"

+1 for using the LFG system

+1 for some reward (other than the standard XP, Inf, and mob drops).

Oh, and +1 for the slip&slide emote
  24. Two-Handed Melee Weapons.

    Staff?
    Polearm? (I want a Halberd)
    Spear?
Huge Swords (such as a Zwiehander)?

Any of these would be awesome!!!!
