Nope. This is a game; why should I waste the energy to get mad at a game?

And besides, I run TFs for badges, costume parts, and merits. Last I checked, difficulty level of said TF wasn't tied to any of those. And barring specifically-mentioned Invincible runs, I can't recall a TF team I've ever been on exclaiming that the difficulty should be turned up. As a matter of fact, most of the time, it's been the opposite: "Sorry guys, I forgot I was running on Invincible. I'll turn the difficulty down after this mission." And if someone actually asks if there's a difficulty preference among the group, the usual answer is "I don't care." And neither do I, really. Certainly not enough to be mad about it.

Now, I'd like it if we could keep our difficulty settings for Ouroboros stuff, but I understand that there are technical issues keeping this from being possible. As such, I'm content to wait for a solution to this. And if it never comes, so be it. Outside of going back for missed content, I use Ouroboros like I use TFs: for badges and merits. So this doesn't affect me that much.
  2. I run at max settings on an 8800 gt and Core2 Duo 3.0gHz, and have no real framerate issues. Above anything else, though, make sure you've got at least 2 gigs of RAM; CoH tends to be a little on the heavy on RAM consumption.

  5. Okay, lock this thread. It's reached its peak.
  6. I'm not replying to the OP with this post, but I would like to point something out. I primarily play on Pinnacle. Going by observed server stress indicators over time, I'd venture to say that Pinnacle is likely the least populated North American server. If it isn't, it's close. Either way, When I log on during East Coast "peak time", I usually don't have much trouble finding something to be a part of. Often, I find myself turning down invites because I happen to be working on a grindy badge, waiting for someone else to come online, screwing around with the MA, or some other reason. But rarely do I ever have the problem of looking around and finding an empty server ... and I'm usually logged in on a villain! So really, anytime I see one of these "OMGZ we need to merge the servers cuz they're empty!" threads, I honestly have to scratch my head and wonder what these people are doing wrong.
  7. For those who haven't yet seen it, in the patch notes for yesterday's test build:

-14 to 19 recipes per mission
-5 to 8 enhancements per mission
-30 to 51 salvage per mission
Now my question (to Synapse or anyone else who can answer): Are the numbers listed above consistent with the number of drops a team of 8 players would typically receive while running the same mission at +0 difficulty?

The devs aren't against farming; they're against using exploits.

At no point during closed or open beta was there any mention by any dev specifically of drop rates in connection with setting multi-person spawns within missions as part of your difficulty level. And I'd like to think that our devs aren't so stupid as to completely forget to mention something important like drops not scaling with spawn size being intentional, namely because of the sort of outrage we're seeing now.
  11. QR-ish:

And again, this could also be a case of the devs looking at the wrong data. They are human, after all. People have been typically labeling this as something wrong with drop rates, whereas it could very well be an unintended side-effect of the SSK system. If the devs looked at the data concerning drop rates and saw that, overall, the numbers were in the right area, of course they'd say that drop rates are fine. Because if what some people think is happening actually is happening, those drops are being awarded ... to phantom teammates due to the game seeing a solo player fighting 6-man spawns as a team of 6 players and dispersing drops as it normally would in a team situation.

Actually, it's usually not down that often at all. Maintenance is typically only on Mondays and Fridays. Builds usually get pushed live on Tuesdays, but even that's not something which happens with any regularity. There are sometimes cases of emergency maintenance to correct server issues and whatnot, but for the most part you only miss 2 hours of playtime twice a week.
  13. Sorry, but it's just an error with Mids. Travel powers remain third tier.
  14. Insert Standard Code Rant *HERE*

Granite in it's current form cannot be customized at all because it's set up to replace the player model with a static NPC model that has set attributes, geometry, and textures. And per Back Alley Brawler, no tech exists in the game to even hook any changes into Granite. In a post, Castle mentioned that BABs was about 90% done with a workaround, but that he'd run into a major wall. Since that time, BABs started another thread asking players how they'd feel about Granite not changing your model, but becoming an overlay like the other Stone Armor powers. So it's being worked on. Please, never assume that certain changes haven't been made because of arbitrary reasons or out of sheer laziness; it's usually more the case that those changes either have good reason for not being made, or cannot be made due to technical limitations.

That's not BABs' concern; he doesn't handle rewards and drop rates.

Someone from a Boston-based developer. Dude or dudette didn't know they had it until after PAX when they went and got tested by their doctor. Once they found out that it was h1n1 and not your usual cold, they contacted the Penny Arcade folks, who proceeded to get the message out.

  19. This does make for interesting reading, though.

    From The Dark Watcher's Twitter:

  20. Dark Watcher also has the flu, although I dunno if it's h1n1. I think Mod8 might be sick as well.
  21. The reason why you always have the backpack - even if you have a Bane as a second build - has more to do with technical issues than anything else. I was part of the closed beta that introduced VEATs, and that damn crab backpack was trouble right up to (and I think even including) open beta. For the longest time, it wouldn't show up at all. Or, it would show up but only the default version would be visible, even if you picked the custom version. There were also problems with the textures and geometry, and getting the powers to work right.

In short, getting the crab backpack to work for a player character was a hell of a lot harder than getting it to work for an NPC, so much so that it necessitated making the backpack permanent. Now that power customization has BABs (and to a lesser degree, Castle) going back and re-examining how powers and animations work, maybe a solution will be found. Until that day comes, however, if you take any of the Crab Spider powers, expect to wear the pack.

Added: Aw man, Paragon Studios is still looking for an Online Community Manager. If I weren't living in southeastern England, I'd send in an application ASAP. Being an American, I wouldn't have to worry about getting a work visa or anything like that. But I just don't wanna have to sell most of my belongings, pack up and ship what I can't part with, make travel arrangements for my cat, and take an 11 or 12 hour flight to California for the purpose of starting a new chapter in my life just two years after I already did so in moving here.
