Quote:Why hello there!
Also, why is there no Arachnos unit based off of or called "Birdeater"? (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bird-eating_spider) -

Quote:To answer this specifically: we know that growth can't be a power; we cannot pick up items from the environment and use them as weapons; we cannot run or climb up walls; and water powers, while workable in theory, would necessitate raising the system requirements for the game if implemented the way the devs would like, and it's not worth it for one powerset.I guess what I was talking about are certain powers are not doable because of the engine.
I'm sure there are others, but these are the only examples I know of off the top of my head where developer commentary, either direct or second-hand, has flat-out said they cannot be done in the game as it currently stands (water powers being the exception). -
Jumping while walking!
I don't care if you call it "impossible" or "just a dream"! We must dream the impossible dream! We must fight the unbeatable foe! We must run where the brave dare not go! We must reach the unreachable star! -

Or people deciding to buy the other new shiny - the one with the really pretty characters and all the wings - as opposed to CoH. Who knows? As I said, it's not as earth-shattering as the graph would seemingly indicate upon first glance. Especially since the data shows that there have consistently been between 5,000 and 7500 new copies of CoH sold per quarter for the past 3 years. Still not nearly as informative as subscriber info, though.

You're a good man, NoPants, but this graph needs a little work.
First of all, it's not labeled. For those wondering, this is the number of copies of CoH sold per quarter. Second, the graph makes things seem much more severe than what the numbers really indicate. The highest number of copies sold per quarter on this chart is shy of 7500, in the 3rd quarter of 2006. The lowest sold per quarter is somewhere in the neighborhood of 5300, in the 4th quarter of 2007. While there has been a drop in the number of copies sold since the 2nd quarter of this year, and the 3rd quarter sales for this year are on the low end of quarterly sales over the past 3 years, it's actually only a drop of around 1200. Not really DOOOOOOM-worthy. Also, we have no way of knowing how many of those sales were new players and how many were current players buying additional accounts.
Now, if we could still see subscription numbers, we'd have a much better barometer of the game's health. -

- Walk Power - All characters will now have access to a new inherent power -- Walk! This toggle power enables characters to move at a comfortable walking pace.
- The Walk power is an Inherent toggle power given to all characters at Level 2 (like Sprint).
- Please Note that powers or jumping (i.e. pressing the Space Bar) cannot be used while walking.
- This power is not intended for use in combat.

Done and done. Thanks!

/smashmode 1 -- permanent full Fury bar for Brutes.
What? Like I'd need anything else? -
There's no evidence of Dominatrix actually being Cole's granddaughter. She is the daughter of Praetoria's Miss Liberty, but it's not known if that Miss Liberty was of any relation to Praetorian Marcus Cole. Since Praetorian Earth is no longer the "Mirror-Mirror" version of Primal Earth, it can easily be stated that Dominatrix and Tyrant are not related should the devs want to take it in that direction.

I'm not really an Anarchist. I mean, I was one before I joined Arachnos, what with being a card-carrying member of the Freakshow and all. But now, I just want to get my hands on the best tech possible so I can keep upgrading my mostly-metallic form until I reach a state of cybernetic perfection. And I'll be damned if those Praetorian Clockwork aren't things of beauty! The sleek lines, the precision curves and angles, the aesthetic pleasantness mixed with sturdy, rugged construction ... man, if I still had skin on my arms, I'd be getting goosebumps!
So yeah, I'm finding a way to Praetoria. And while I'm there, I'll do whatever it takes to get a hold of all the best robotics, wetware, and integrated weapons and armor systems they have to offer. It doesn't matter what faction or factions I'll have to join, or what sort of nasty tasks I'll have to do. There's nothing that my four back-mounted laser cannons, personal Arachnobot deployment, and I can't accomplish! -
To quote Marcian Tobay's Twitter from HeroCon:
Quote:Since it came from HeroCon, I can only assume that this was said by a dev. Sorry for being the dude who pees in your Corn Flakes.Growth cannot be supported by the CoX engine and will never happen. -
Quote:This. That's why they're popular --- as villains. There's no question about your motivation. "Nazis! I hate these guys."
The Council is just confusing. Some kind of "brain trust" in league with extradimensional aliens. They're semi-redundant to the Malta, the Rikti, and the Fifth Column as well. The Fifth Column have a one word backstory. They're fascists, and that's all you need to know.
Beating up Nazi super-soldiers is a lot more satisfying than beating up Italian human-alien symbiotes. -

There actually is a way to do this without manually messing with any game files: Leandro's Splasher program. With it, you can also change the pocket D music as well as the music for the hero and villain login screens. This is all in addition to being able to change various in-game textures, such as the login screen pictures, with the program. Now, you'll just be limited to what you replace each boombox track with, but it's better than nothing. If you want different music always playing, do like Quint suggested and have a media player of some sort running while you're in-game.
Edit: Curse you, Oldeb! -

Okay, it took forever, but we have confirmed that turning in Halloween costume salvage does indeed have a chance of triggering a Deadly Apocalypse if no other Deadly Apocalypses are currently taking place anywhere else.

Time for an actual feedback post.
The objectives of the event absolutely need to be made more clear. Maybe a pop-up that appears when players first log in, with Azuria or some other magic NPC giving a quick run-down of the emergency situation as it stands (some sort of in-story explanation would be nice). In any event, the following things need to be explained:
- Players need to be made aware that they should check their zone maps once the apocalypse event starts.
- Once at a banner, players need to know that they have to destroy the critters that spawn. A simple active task dialogue that reads "defeat banner guardians" or something like that will suffice. The big "Banners are vulnerable" indicator is fine as-is.
- Players need to be told that the Greater Mystic Aspect can take many forms. From posts in this thread and from in-game chat, a lot of people are either mistaking the real Eochais in zones for the Aspect, or defeated the Aspect while it looked like Eochai. Either way, this has people complaining that it's just the same old stuff and not worth doing. If they knew that The Greater Mystic Aspect can take on different forms, teams wouldn't always be hunting for Eochai or assume that "normal" Eochai is, in fact, the Aspect.
-
Quote:For the record, the Greater Mystic Aspect appears as a random GM, not just Eochai. It's also labeled as the Mystic Aspect when targeted. I've defeated it as Jurrasik, Jack in Irons, The Kraken, and Eochai.Definitely not. Calling Eochai the mystic aspect was confusing. When the Seek the Mystic Aspect message came up I was looking for something I hadn't seen before.
Of course, Eochai still spawns in the zones as part of the regular Halloween event. So I understand there could be some confusion and suggest maybe adding something to the event description letting players know that the Mystic Aspect can take on many forms.
Quote:many complained of lags and crashes-though I experienced neither issue.
Quote:I will say that having costume salvage drops tied to trick spawns is awesome imo. -
No problem with RPers. In fact, I wouldn't mind doing some of it myself; it's been far too long. And thanks for the channels. I'm already on VU2009, and will be adding Virtue TFs as soon as I post this.

So yeah, I've decided to expand out from my native soil of Pinnacle. Transferred my main and namesake toon (50 Crab spider) over here, and I'll be rolling some newbies as well. Just kinda curious as to what sort of stuff I should be aware of -- weekly raids, main global channels, etc. While I'm well aware of the stickied threads, if someone could give me the short and quick version, it'd be greatly appreciated.
Looking forward to interacting in-game with some folks I've only previously known from the forum! -
Every now and then, we'll have a weekend or a full week with regular invasions. These events are usually announced in advance here on the forums.
