This isn't related to any specific ATI technical issue, but I thought I'd post it here.
For those wondering about ATI cards and Going Rogue, I just had a PM exchange with Dark Watcher. Two things of note:
1) The fixes to ATI-related issues (the inability to use DoF, bloom, etc.) will indeed be universal, so you do NOT need Ultra Mode enabled to take advantage of them. I know it seems obvious that they'd allow everyone to take advantage of bug fixes, but I just wanted to be sure.
2) If you're looking to upgrade to a new ATI card (the 5800 series, for example) for Going Rogue, or are just looking forward to enabling all the basic features on your current ATI card, you still have some time; the ATI fixes are made possible by a significant change to the game's rendering pipeline, and the code will only be available once Ultra Mode has been added to the game. -

Took your advice, Marcian. Look forward to teaming with ya - and everyone else here - sometime!
-
... because it's simply not possible ... I've also taken the opportunity presented by free server transfers to pack up my things and relocate to your lovely server from my native Pinnacle. I look forward to teaming with you folks, and to getting to know the folks behind the characters (Assuming I can find your server's global channels >_<)
-
So, with the free server transfers, I've decided to travel forth from my beloved Pinnacle to spread our message of booze, love, and booze to the unwashed masses of Justice. This has been my home server for the majority of my 5 years here, so you'll always be in my heart. And liver. Mostly in my liver. What's left of it, at least.
*Raises pint glass*
Salut, Pinnacle! -
Quote:You're one of those people who thinks that it's not paranoia if they're really out to get you, huh?Not really. They may be using this as a way to gauge which servers to shut down. E.g., if 70% of the population on Triumph transfers their characters to Justice, well, then they know they can safely shut Triumph down.
-
Just to try and pre-emptively cut back the DOOOOOOOOOM levels: if this were a sign that servers were being merged, don't you think that the devs would first make that announcement so players wouldn't waste their free transfers moving to those servers that were on the chopping block?
-
Or, y'know ... they could have decided to give us something extra for the holidays. But hey, unfounded paranoia works too; MMO players thrive on the stuff.
And if there were plans to close some servers, don't you think the devs would have made an announcement beforehand, so that players wouldn't waste their free transfers moving characters to servers that were on the chopping block? -
Sorry to burst your bubble, but Castle explicitly said at HeroCon that the game engine cannot support any sort of "size-changing" powersets, and as such, it will never happen. What we can do at character creation and via the Super Tailor is the long and short (no pun intended) of it.
-
I actually use the boots and shorts on a couple of characters (the boxing boots can make for some rather passable wing-tip shoes).
-
What drivers are you using?
I've been looking for a 5850, so I've been lurking around various tech forums. It seems that the 9.11 Catalysts are rather borked. If you're running the 9.11s, try finding a copy of the 9.10s and see if that helps any.
I sure hope it helps ... having to wait until GR for the game to function properly on an ATI card really sucks. -
Self-Destruct, Mystic Fortune, Reveal, Vet attacks, Walk, a couple of useful temp powers, and a "Grats!" macro.
I put all my teleport powers in tray 3, along with the VIP Jump Jet. -
My forum handle has usually been representative of my "main" character. Back in the early days (pre-CoV), my handle was Axegrinder. Once CoV came around, I became Smashmouth and was known as that until right before the forum migration. I then changed my handle to Goliath Bird Eater, so named because of my awesome level 50 Crab Spider who is now, and always will be, my favorite character.

After scouring the internet for days, I was finally able to find a store with a Sapphire ATI Radeon 5870 in stock (well, at their distribution hub, but it's still stock)! So that's ordered, and being shipped to me next-day once they get it from the hub. Mmmmm ... DirectX 11 goodness!

Just leveled a Claws character to 4 to check out the new NR animations, and I agree 100% with Dispari. The Claws and Dual Pistols versions of the power need to regain the crossed-arms jumping style. Unless there was a big issue with weapons clipping into the character's body, in which case I'll begrudgingly accept the current changes. Now, I need to go test a Shield character.

It turns out Wolverine now isn't a mutant, but rather a Lupine, a human looking species that evolved in parallel to humans but from wolves, not apes. And there are two tribes: one with blond hair, the other with dark hair, and they hate each other which is why Sabertooth hates Wolverine so much. They're not the only two, either other Lupine's include Wolfsbane, Feral, Wild Child and Thornn. So pretty much ever feral mutant isn't actually a mutant, but a wolf person. They're all being manipulated by an almost immortal elder Lupine called Romulus.
Wolverine's healing factor has also suffered from major power creep over the years, expanding from "he can heal faster than most", to "was left as a skeleton after a major explosion, and healed completely within seconds." So to de-power him slightly, a retcon established that every time he dies, Wolverine has to fight the spirit of death to return to the living. Since WWI, he has been in constant combat with a being known as Lazaer (the worst anagram since Alucard), and his soul cannot return to his body unless he defeats Lazaer in limbo, each time. After some jiggerypokery with the resurrected version Shingen, Lazaer and Wolverine ended their constant battle so if Wolverine dies again, it's for real. -
Quote:1) No, BABs didn't animate this. It was the creation of an as-yet-unnamed animator, who also did the Dual Pistols animations. Most of the people who I hear comment about the new Ninja Run power are pleased because it's a 'free' travel power. That's nice and all, but I like it because it's FREAKIN' PERFECT for ninjas! It looks fantastic. The animation details are WONDERFUL. It is the perfect customization for ninja characters. It is acrobatic, stealthy, and wonderfully ninja-like. You can roofhop. You can sprint through tall grass to assassinate your enemies. (Shame you can't toss shuriken whilst running.)
BABs, did you animate this? If so you and whoever helped you deserve a big fat raise from NCSoft.
That said, it isn't the end-all-be-all of travel. While acrobatic, Ninja Run doesn't suit, say, a gymnast or a traditional acrobat, both of whom would have run stances more about balance and grace. They'd be more 'hoppy' and better able to stick landings, or manage secondary or tertiary leaps off the scenery.
Nor does it suit a sprinter, whose upright running stance is all about focusing raw power into speed.
Nor would it suit a variety of other character customization needs. Many of those can be approximated with combinations of Combat Jumping, Swift, Hurdle, or other movement powers.
Since you guys are willing to animate this sort of thing for cash... how about it? More running styles, emotes, or what have you. I'd pay for a Super Booster or mini expansion that was nothing but differently-themed run styles if they're as awesome as Ninja Run.
/em puts his money on the table.
2) There are other threads where people have asked for/talked about some sort of customization for Ninja Run and travel powers in general. Yesterday, BABs stated the following in one of those threads:
Quote:That's my point. We don't have any travel powers with multiple animations, be it in a single power or multiple powers. All of the prestige sprints have different visual effects, but use the same animations.
I think some of you guys are making the assumption that because we can have different visual effects for travel powers, and other powers can have both different VFX and different animations, that travel powers could also have different animations...but that's not the case.
Movement modes are not the same as powers. -

I've just looked through the costume bits, and they are AWESOME! I can already see a few non-martial artist uses for some of the pieces. The Chinese broadsword looks sweet too!
Oh, and Jay, Cheryl: whichever one of you is responsible for the Tai gloves (Tai Skin, specifically) is my hero; finally, there's an option for brawlers other than wrapped hands and forearms or fingerless gloves.
Yeah, I'm digging this booster. -
Quote:I know that will get glossed over and 6 months from now someone here on the forums will make a statement like "Remember back when walk was crashing the mapservers" and someone else will say "Oh yeah, I remember that" and I will drop my face into my palm and die a little bit more inside.
THAT'S OUR BABS!
*Cue laugh track and closing credits*
