On a side note: It's really easy to slip into RP mode when discussing the ethics and societal structure of Praetoria.

Quote:Praetoria may be safe, but the rest of the world still needs people fighting for justice and order. Those people with superhuman abilities are true heroes, going off to god-knows-where, and doing what they can. And in some places, it's an uphill battle. In some places, stability isn't going to be achieved for months; maybe even years! Thankfully, Emperor Cole realizes just how hard it is on both the Super and their loved ones. That's why - when it's safe for them to do so - he makes accommodations for them to be together. And besides, sometimes it seems like Praetoria is the only place left where people are actually optimistic about the future. I think it's a good thing for people from here to go out there (when it's safe, of course) and spread some good will around. So disorderly thoughts would be wondering where a superpowered relation of yours had disappeared to? Or why the family of another superpowered person who disappeared also disappeared when they started asking questions about their missing relative?
You know, you ask some strange questions sometimes. And I'm not sure I like your tone when you talk about Emperor Cole. If not for him, most of us probably wouldn't even be here right now, you know! He's given us everything we could ever want or need. He saved humanity from destruction, for heaven's sake! And you question him? You accuse him of all sorts of horrible things?
*backs away slowly*
You know those "imbalanced" people I was talking about? Well, maybe I was talking to one of them! I hope the Seers know about you, because you need help, lady. Serious help. -
Why would anyone be thinking anything other than happy, orderly thoughts in Praetoria, unless there was something wrong with them? Y'know ... unless they were imbalanced or something. In which case, it's a good thing that those sort of people are taken in for treatment. I mean, what if they got violent? What if they hurt you or your family? Thanks to Praetor Tilman [or whatever Mother Mayhem's civie alias will be] and her Seers, we don't have to worry about that sort of thing. We're safe in Praetoria. Safe and happy and free to live our lives without fear of monsters, poverty, sickness, crime, hunger, or war. And we have Emperor Cole to thank for all of this!

Quote:Hey GG: Quit posting as if you've already played through the stuff and know what's going to happen. You may have 40,000 posts, but unless you're employed by Paragon Studios or are friends or family of Paragon Studios employees (assuming the F&F beta has even begun), you don't know any more than the rest of us.That might be hard to avoid during the 1-20 content as you rise through the ranks of Tyrant's supporters
For all we know, most or all of the unpleasantness that goes on behind the scenes in Praetoria may be explained away or covered up to those who are truly loyal to Cole. I know that you want or expect the character to pretty much be a guy in a white suit with a giant "EVIL!" sign above his head with an arrow pointing down, but from everything we've seen and heard so far, the devs at least appear as if they want to play Tyrant more shades-of-grey. I know that doesn't really work for you, since you've pretty much made it known around here that you're a very "black or white/good or evil" type of person. But don't assume that everyone who leaves Prateoria at level 20 knows for a fact that Marcus Cole kicks puppies and puts grannies in concentration camps. Or that even if they know that not everything is exactly on the level, they wouldn't be willing to chalk it up to being necessary to defend the greater good and ensure peace for all of Praetoria's law-abiding citizens.
You know, just like how the heroes of Primal Earth are able to use guns, knives, swords, axes, and set criminals on fire in order to defend the greater good and ensure peace for all of Paragon City's law-abiding citizens. Or does that not count against us because our Marcus Cole is "a good guy"? -
Quote:Absolutely. If you're a Loyalist Super who's never really run afoul of the darker elements of Emperor Cole's rule, it's entirely feasible that you'd see heroes of Primal Earth as your counterparts and allies since you're all doing your part to make sure that justice, law, order, and peace prevail in your respective dimensions. Similarly, if you're a member of the Resistance on Praetorian Earth, you might not really be willing to trust anyone named Marcus Cole or those who follow his example. These folks just might seek help from elsewhere. From someone who hates Marcus Cole as much as they do. Someone who might not have as many scruples about doing whatever it took to eliminate Marcus Cole, even if it's an alternate version. So it would be very nice if both Loyalists and Resistance had the option of choosing which side they went to upon leaving Praetoria.I do hope it's possible to play a Loyalist who goes hero or a Resistance character who goes villain. I have some existing heroes who are more concerned with law than good, and villains who are more concerned with chaos than evil, so the idea of being pigeon-holed into one or the other if I start in Praetoria is a little annoying.

Fun Fact: Her forum title reads "Rookie", but if memory serves, she's actually the senior-most member of the dev team, having been involved with City of Heroes since 2002.

Big congrats all around to both those promoted and those new to the team!
Okay, now it's conspiracy time: Lead dev and head programmer stepping aside in order to work on a number of "secret initiatives"? Could it be that Paragon Studios is about to begin work on another MMO? -
Indeed. Based on a PM conversation I had with Dark Watcher about Ultra Mode and ATI cards, it sounds like the current plan is to release the graphics upgrade either as a part of or in conjunction with Going Rogue. Of course, even this is subject to change up until the moment we can enable Ultra Mode in our options window.

Quote:Y'know, while I can't fault Brawler for doing this - lord knows there have been times when the level of stupid around here has risen to such that I've told this place to go fornicate itself with an iron rod - as someone who's really been feeling the general lack of information and communication about, well, anything lately, I honestly have to say that this does not boost my spirits any.I will no longer be accepting PMs. Please use these threads to alert us to any issues with Animation or VFX.
Bugs or exploits can be addressed to Ghost Falcon
For all other questions or concerns, direct them to the appropriate thread, or to our community people EMpulse, T'He O'Cho, Niviene, or Avatea.
And as posted elsewhere, I hope this is just a sabbatical from PMs/forum interaction and not the beginning of a swan song. -
Posi didn't say there was no need to write any further arcs; rather, he said that having a bunch of player-made arcs would allow the mission creation devs to focus more on bigger things like TFs ... or, y'know, a bunch of story arcs for Praetoria.

Quote:Hey everyone, I'm going to be the first to admit I'm not as ech savvy as I'd like to be, but usually I can fanagle what I need to.
Today however, I need a bit of help. I updated my drivers to Catalyst version 09.12 on my RADEON HD 3600 series.
This broke my game. The game is now under what seems to be a massive strobe effect, I've never dealt with anything like this before, I tried to read up on the last few pages of this forum and appearantly 9.12 breaks CoX, is this true? It certainly seems to be.
I'm running Vista 64-bit if that helps.
Download these drivers.
They're the hotfix version of the 9.12 drivers. One of the incorporated fixes handles the "strobing" bug in OpenGL games, CoH included. -
Yeah, I'm just about at the point as well. Even moving most of my toons to Justice from Pinnacle didn't really help. I thought that beta testing Star Trek Online would hold me over until the GR closed beta, but Cryptic's server setup absolutely blows for people living in the UK and parts of Europe who try to play any later than around 4PM GMT. So depending on whether or not I can actually do any testing, I might just get my kat/regen Scrapper to 40 then call it quits on MMOs until I get the beta invite from NCSoft. I'm paid up through April, so it'll be no skin off my teeth.
-
And I honestly dunno if we'll be getting any info next week either. In addition to the two contests they've begun, the community team is apparently going to hit all the servers (EU included) with those special Rikti attacks. And it all smacks of them trying their best to keep us entertained and to keep our minds off the fact that there's a serious dearth of information, as well as a "dry spell" with regard to live client updates.
-
It ain't working. It was fun at first, posting bits of Bill Paxton's dialogue from Aliens, but them not telling us anything about an event that is supposed to take our minds off of them not telling us anything about going Rogue really does start to cause one's patience to wear thin after time.
