    Merging servers.

Not related to the OP's question, but why do some people write "DEVs" in all capital letters? Do they think it's an acronym for something? Do they not realize it's just shorthand for "developer(s)"? Do they think that by typing it in all caps, they'll magically increase the chance that a dev will pop into their thread and provide an answer?

    I MUST KNOW!
  2. Four quick pieces of advice for ATI users:

    1) If you have ANY drivers other than the 10.4s installed, install the 10.4s. They contain a fix for the Shadow Map shader quality crash issue which affected the 10.2 and 10.3 drivers. Be sure to completely uninstall your old drivers first. Note: laptop users and people using ancient ATI cards, make sure your laptop doesn't use legacy video drivers before you try to install the desktop or mobility 10.4s. If your system screws up because you tried to install incompatible drivers, not my fault.

    2) There is currently a compatibility issue when trying to use both FSAA and Ambient Occlusion. This issue typically affects the 5xxx series ATI cards, but it might also happen on certain older cards. This issue has been present since the beginning of the I17 closed beta. Unless ATI can come up with a solution, the only way around it is to use either FSAA or Ambient Occlusion. Using both, regardless of what setting either feature is on, will result in graphical artifacting.

    3) Make sure your CCC and in-game settings are compatible with each other. Be sure that CoH is controlling both your FSAA and your AF, that your vertical sync settings are compatible, and that any other possible conflicts have been resolved.

    4) Triple check your in-game settings. The overall fixes to rendering which have made most ATI cards fully compatible with CoH have made the old work-arounds for FSAA and AF unnecessary. Furthermore, enabling Ultra Mode for the first time from the login screen changes most of your in-game settings. Go over your options panel with a fine-toothed comb to make sure that everything is where it should be, keeping in mind your CPU and GPU capabilities and limitations.

    There is that possibility also.

To clarify, I have no emails sitting in my inbox, so there's no reason they shouldn't be showing. Has anyone else had trouble with this? I sent a petition, so hopefully I won't lose all the influence I sent.
Stupid question, but did you remember to put @ in front of the global handle? Also, did any of your characters receive the email? If you're sending to your own global, all your characters, including the character you sent it from, will receive the e-mail (though only characters of the same faction as the sender can claim any attachments).

I'm not trying to be snarky, but this really isn't anywhere near a helpful amount of information concerning your computer configuration. Would you mind at least posting the following:

    CPU
    Amount of RAM
Video card/integrated graphics chipset, and installed driver version
    Operating system

This way, someone might be able to at least start to point you in the right direction of what could be causing the problem. Certainly, it's better than "I17 sucks! "
  8. I really need to expand my vocabulary, Michelle, because calling your latest video "fabulous" has become entirely too predictable a response by this point.
  9. Dr. Aeon did the new villain arcs.
  10. What was the character, and what had they done last before you logged in?
  11. Mind sharing the circumstances under which you got that?

You know ... so it can be replicated and fixed. Yeah, that's it. <.< >.>
  12. Mine was a Crab spider with dual pistols and pain domination. I now demand that my Crab Spider be able to pack heat alongside his back lasers.
  13. I don't "farm" in that I don't run the same few missions over and over due to optimum time/reward ratios, but these days my level 50 Crab Spider does run missions at +0/x8 by default for the purpose of maximizing recipe drops during normal play, and I breeze through missions fairly quickly.

    ty!
At creation, if you decide to give your character the Bane/Crab armor instead of the Huntsman armor, they're gonna have the Bane backpack. You can't give them the Crab backpack unless you decide to go the Crab route at level 24.

And yes, while your first costume slot is devoted to your Arachnos uniform, your can alter it at a tailor.

Hmm ... during beta, every member of the team got a doppelganger.

They show up in all the new hero and villain arcs, as well as the first (if I remember right) part of the new Posi TF.

Yeah. The clones don't copy *YOUR* powers exactly. Instead, they use the AE "Custom Critter" versions of powersets. This means, in addition to having powers in a set you may or may not personally have, they sometimes have powers that aren't even available to players with those sets.
  20. Ever since the little Television/Aeon "incident" here on the forums, The Television has had it out for me due to my ardent support of the good doctor and his promise of early Ultra mode. Ever the opportunist, he turned me into a television at the meet and greet! It was a infuriating and frightening experience, until I realized Mythbusters was going to be on and my fear and rage turned into curiosity about whether or not I could get Discovery Channel on myself. No longer getting the desired reaction, he returned me to my glorious, green, metallic form.

    100% true.

    Kheld forums that way--->

(Hint: Crabs choke on hard single targets like EBs. Banes don't. I beat EB BABs on my Bane with zero deaths).
"Choke hard" isn't quite the right phrase. Certainly, Crabs - who are designed to be medium-range, AoE-based fighters - handle large groups of lower-tier enemies better than they do one or two higher-tier enemies. But by NO means are they incapable of handling EBs. My main character is proof of that, and I was taking out EBs with him even before I really got going with major IO slotting. You do have to play it smart sometimes, which is where I think many fail. when I fight EBs, there are powers that are part of my standard attack chain that I never use, and there are other powers that I use differently when I fight an EB. And while I don't always win on the first try (I usually do, though), I haven't come across an EB yet that I can't eventually defeat.

I'm even more surprised that this is the accepted norm for quite a long while, meaning the devs couldn't be bothered to tweak the coding somehow so it won't show up while being a bane spider.
First mistake: Assuming something didn't happen due to the developers being lazy. That assumption alone makes it not worth continuing any sort of dialogue with you. But I'm in a good mood thanks to I17, so I'll humor you.

Not only did I beta test the VEATs, but I focused on testing Crab Spiders. Having spoken with Back Alley Brawler, JLove, and a few others quite often during that time, I can tell you that the backpack was a major source of frustration. In fact, it took quite a bit of closed beta just to get it working right -- where it would show up at all; where it could be customizable; where the textures would be properly aligned; where all the attacks utilizing it would properly emanate from it; etc. And the fact that it doesn't vanish if you make a Bane or huntsman build is an unfortunate necessity, brought about by the technical difficulties that arose in trying to get it to work correctly for player characters, and in particular dual-build Spiders.

Could it be fixed now? Don't know; there are certainly more programmers on staff now than there were when the VEATs were introduced. However, right now, everyone is busy - big shock, I know - with the BIG stuff (i.e., Going Rogue and the next few issues beyond that). And if it even were possible to fix the Crab backpack now, it likely isn't a high enough priority to warrant having time and manpower devoted to fixing it anytime in the near future. So as much as it would be a welcome change, you're just gonna have to do what the rest of us have done who've had VEATs since they first became available: live with it.

Apologies to Dark_Inferno for hijacking their thread.
  23. So, the last time I played the new villain arcs was sometime toward the end of closed beta. At that time, VEAT clones weren't working quite right. For starters, their appearance was that of your Arachnos uniform. Also, the powers didn't really match up. The clone of my Crab Spider, for example, had a couple of arm slices and an Arachnos rifle. Even fighting eight of him, it was a fairly one-sided fight.

Well, that has apparently been fixed.

I once again squared off against my clone tonight, and was surprised when he not only had the right appearance, but began firing off lasers, summoning Arachnobot pets, and even using Serum! It was a tougher fight, but still nothing too bad. So when playing Leonard's arc just now, I said "Eight of them? Why not? It'll give me a badge." Big mistake. A full team of Crab Spider VEATs, firing lasers; slashing with their arms; summoning multiple pets; injecting themselves with Serum; and even using OMEGA DEVICES(!) proceeded to grind me into a fine paste. It took two tries to kill 'em all, and I got lucky the second time by having Serum recharge right before I entered the map. And my crab is no pushover. I've got a ton of inf invested into him, and I still had to swallow a huge, bitter spoonful of my own medicine tonight.

Thanks for reminding me to keep on my toes, devs.

Bill, Mercy causing terrible performance isn't driver-related. It's just how the zone was constructed, and how that construction interacts with Ultra Mode. It's the only zone redside where my FPS stays below 30 (and frequently, below 20), and it's done that for the entirety of beta.
