And another thing - wouldn't it be nice if the stuff we made from salvage was either free, or far, far cheaper than the standard equipment?

How it should be - currently, your rent is based on all the Pretige your SG has earned.
If, for example, you had a middle sized base, and 90 million Prestige in the bank, you should only be taxed on the total worth of the base, and nothing else.
If you then spend the 90 million on upgrading you base, then that's fair enough for it to be taxed, beause you've turned the Prestige into something physical for your SG.
But taxing unspent Prestige is just dumb.

You should only be taxed for physical assets, not the unused Prestige you have in the bank, or total Prestige that you've earned, unless you've actually spent it all.

Howso? As I remember when it was first introduced the powers that be made a big point of the fact that "drops are random, to prevent farming" etc. Has that changed? Or were they fibbing / misleading people to deter them from farming?

Well, in RV, for example, I'm there most nights, working on getting the last 2 inf badges, and there's a steady stream of salvage from the arachnos mobs there, and they give very little variation on what salvage they drop - spider eye/graphite composite/armor shard/arachnos blaster - so an hour or so there would guarantee you'd get one of these types of salvage several times.

Salvage can be farmed - you just need to spend quite some time to get a decent amount.
