    How sad, my deepest sympathies

The devs were taken by surprise too - yesterday, they were promoting the next content patch on Facebook, then 3 hours later they put up the goodbye post.
The game is still profitable, with an extremely passionate and dedicated fan base, and there are soem things being planned to try and save the game and the community in some form, inlcuding emulation.
I think that you should finish the download, and check out the game, and maybe you'll see why so many of us aren't going to just lie down and let it die.

    2) We can work with Cryptic to license the engine just like NCsoft did.

    3) We can use crowd funding to hire developers to develop a drop-in replacement for the engine--possibly some of the very same developers who have been working on the game for years already.

    4) We can use crowd funding to hire developers to develop a new, better, shinier engine. More expensive and it would totally depend on the amount of crowd funding revenue available, but still a tantalizing possibility.

    5) Probably more options I haven't even considered since it's been less than 24 hours since I've been mulling all of this--and a whole lot more--over.
The big one you left out was licensing another exisiting engine - that would slash development time and costs.

With the scope of the costume creator, art assets would be one of the biggest jobs in any CoH2 project.

In other words, CoH2 - which could actually be a good thing for the long-term future of the game world - the settings, stories and NPCs we all know and love, but using an engine that has much more scope than the current 10 year old one.
A new engine opens up the possibility of asymetrical costume parts, 3 or 4 colors per costume part instead of 2, animated hair, multiple cape rigs, dynamic lighting so that power effects cast their own light, no war walls, seats and benches you can sit on by clicking them, super speed over the surface of water and up vertical walls, holsters/scabbards that display your actual chosen weapon that disappears from the sheath when you draw it, better mob AI, destructable environments, picking up and throwing objects, RV-style phasing tech for whole zones and so on - a new engine could give us the game we have now, only even better.
  7. It might still surface in some form at another studio - NCSoft were obviously impressed enough with it to green light it, so they could still get someone else to make it.

That's how I'd like to see a Kickstarter CoH2 handled - there are enough dedicated and responsible CoH fans who'd be willing to give their time for free to help run the game and cut down on costs.

Well, they're safe, because they're not part of the official IP - Positron is written into the IP, and features in the official comics and other promotional material.
As another example, when Jack left, he wouldn't have been allowed to use the name Statesman anymore - and the same goes for BAB.

    We don't know - yet.
I'm hoping that we'll get some concept art eventually, alogn with an outline of the main storyline for them.

When GW2 is curently having trouble with its servers, and NCSoft's CoH closure statement mentioning "refocusing publishing support", it's hard not to think that part of the reason that they may have decided to cut CoH is to help GW2.

A bit, but porbably not enough - the dev team will cost more to fund than the servers.

Starting from scratch could be a long-term goal - but an emu server would be awesome for letting us play and stick together while we were getting the fresh start going.

EDIT: Copyright issues with the IP would also probably mean we'd have to create our own one for any fresh start - although I think that we should try and make it as close to the original IP as possible.
  14. The major problem we've got here is time - not only for gatering the data for an emu server, but also for the alternative of trying a Kickstarter CoH2 - it's unlikely that any of the devs ae able to wait around in the slim hope of something getting off the ground - they have themselves and their families to support, and need to find new jobs as soon as possible - so even if we did manage to get something going, by that time, the Paragon Studios team would have been dispersed across other studios.
  15. Actually, with the current problems GW2 is having with its servers, and the phrase in the CoH shut down statement about "refocusing publishing support", there's a very good chance that GW2 is at least part of the reason that NCSoft is withdrawing support for CoH.

Apparently, going by what he said on Twitter, Positron wont even be able to use his name anymore, as even though he came up with it way before CoH, it now counts as part of the IP.
  17. I got a message from Blitzwing/CapeMike, asking for me to let you all know that he's still keeping up with the situation and isn't at all happy.

Well, by holding onto it, they don't actually lose money doing it, and they deny it to potential competition.
  20. City of Heroes isn't go to die on November 30th - the servers will be shut down, but the commhnity and the IP will still be there.
  21. I'm availabel to help in any way that I can - but I'm concerned that this is the now the 7th MMO that NCSoft have shut down rather than trying to sell on to another puiblisher, so there's a big question mark over them even being willing to listen to offers.
  22. CO has no soul, and DCUO is just a mess - there's nowhere else to go for online superhero action.
  23. At least be there for the final day, and see how many instances of Atlas Park we can spawn across the servers.
