Some things really surprised me, like 'Crab'? Seriously? Never would have thought of that AT being a top damage dealer in anything but AoE's potentially? (I played one to mid 30's way back when they were the new black).

I am surprised I haven't heard more of my own favourite: Dark Melee/Shield Defense. The combination of the two is just fantastic. Shield picks up for Dark Melee's lack of AoE. I realize this is a tad off topic, but still the single target damage potential is very, very high.

This thread has given me some ideas of potential builds that I never thought of. Which is really great because after so many years, you can feel like you've tried everything. And obviously that isn't really true!

    Some great ideas in here.
    Crabs are really amazing.
Look at the build I posted earlier, it has a theoretical sustainable DPS of 251.626 + reactive procs + achilles procs + pet damage

Even before considering pets, most Brute's and Scrappers can't hold a candle to that.
  2. I too can't see Destiny Powers.
Even more weird than that is some Alpha powers don't seem to work on everything.
On my Night Widow build, Spiritual Core Paragon seems to work on everything but Mind Link.
  3. You definitely want to be a Brute.
In the late game, when they get Gloom their attack chain does superior damage. Pair it with energy or electric depending on whether you prefer resists or defense.
  4. Obviously I'd love to see a buff to Cloak of Fear's accuracy and endurance consumption but it is already obscenely powerful, it needs those caveats for the sake of balance.
On my tank, I have it 5 slotted with a 95% chance to effect +4s and it costs 0.26 end/sec to use. With good slotting, it is comfortable to use. In return, you get a taunt aura, the ability to neuter all surrounding minions, and a decent to-hit debuff to anything not neutered that stacks with Cloak of Darkness nicely.
That makes it one of the most powerful abilities in the game, it has to have some pretty big drawbacks to compensate.
  5. You would lose a lot of DDR by not being able to stack it. People generally wouldn't like that.
I do agree with your problem though - on a SR or Shield Brute, I could potentially have 4 powers I'd want Auto'd: My mez protection, Hasten, Rage and Ageless. That kind of clicky management kills a lot of concepts. There aren't many who would be willing to subject themselves than that.

Rather than see Shield Defense nerfed, I'd prefer to have the option to stick more powers on auto.
  6. This sounds like the perfect situation for force field.
Force Field sure does suck but it is easy. Turn on a toggle and use two buffs every 4 mins, it doesn't get simpler.

Also, don't let your GF hear you say "Laura" Croft like that, if she is that much of a fan she might not like it!
  7. Why is the heal listed as a negative?
What other defense set can a Brute have that offers a self heal?
The fact that the heal exists is the biggest positive the set has, lumping it as a negative is wrong on many, many levels.
DDR aside, sets like SR can't compare to the survivability of Energy. Having that heal gives it a layer of defense the other defense sets have no access to (other than through Aid Self which really, isn't a very good power) which right off the bat makes it significantly more durable V anything that doesn't debuff def. Let's face it, people always seem to imply DDR makes or breaks a defensive set but consider how many mobs out there use defense debuffs, it is pretty much insignificant unless you are doing ITF.

    Farming Dom?

I am more confused about the Soul part...
Aside from Dark Obliteration being a good aoe attack, it doesn't really offer anything to a farmer. I'd go with Fire for Fire Ball + Rain of Fire.

    Ah, here we go:

No word yet on whether the warning lights will flash.
    Is that picture legit?
I am both excited and confused about the Buster Sword being there.
  10. keep in mind that for the premise of this thread, you are at the damage cap.
Whatever amount of +damage a combination is usually able to bring to the table is irrelevant.
What is relevant is your AT's damage cap, base damage, -resists effects, procs and whatever passive damage you can bring to the table (damage Auras, pets etc).

With that in mind, a Corruptor's higher damage cap, higher AT modifier and scourge are going to easily beat the extra debuffs a Defender can bring to the table. The higher damage cap alone should be enough to make the difference.
  11. Ninja/Beast Run is absolutely amazing.

My usual combination for travel is SS + hover. SS is fine but hover for vertical movement sucks, it is very very slow. The answer to that problem is the jump pack and steam jump pack powers. SS + jump pack = slow jumping with very limited control, SS + hover + jump pack = flight at the flight speed cap.

How does Ninja/Beast Run fit into the equation? It increases both run and aerial speeds, that means it cuts out the need for hover. I find for short distances where being able to jump higher than SS allows is necessary, the combo of Ninja/Beast Run + Jump Pack will make a fool of SS + Hover + Jump Pack.

To me, a God mode team is one where no one dies and everything gets steamrolled. I promise you with some of these combos being listed, you might not all die on the harder TF/Trials/SF's with multiple EB's/AV's/Boss ambushes, etc.- but someone is going to.
Which combinations are you referring to exactly?

I don't know how that is possible. The Fire/Fire Dom doesn't get any Debuffs to help it's DPS, all it has are Blaster attacks with a lower damage modifier and a lower damage cap.
Doms do get Sleet as an epic power however but I don't think that will be enough to make the difference. If they are going to do more damage, it has to be due to a combination of Sleet and Fire Imps (even then, being at the damage cap would change that back in favour of the Blaster) but if pets are within the realm of the question, then it is completely irrelevant because nothing can even approach what a Crab is capable of.

That can't be accurate. FE adds 40.9% damage but at the completely unattainable (unless some kind of miracle combination of FF procs occurs) recharge cap, FE is up for 20s and down for 16, so in a perfect situation, it is up 55.6 % of the time. That equates to a 24.96% net damage boost.
Either way +damage from FE isn't any better than -resists from debuffs.
Wouldn't something like a Sonic/Fire Blaster be best? Double damage auras in Blazing Aura and Hot Feet plus a lot more sustainable -resists than what FE can give a Scrapper.

As an aside, the Crab you mentioned, did he do the typical no insps, no temps, no lore pets routine or did he just go all out?
  15. Just let it go.
They are only words and as long as you understand them it is fine. Keep using your own terminology and eventually it will catch on, there is no real need to educate them.

I'd bet CoH wasn't the first mmo of a significant number of players (myself included) before Freedom, this isn't something new. People will adapt, it just takes time.
Correcting people's terminology just seems obnoxious.

    Lore pets

I too like myLore pets strong and useful when they are required instead of useless but there constantly.

Why not simply add another tree to the Lore path though, one that has them there permanently but weaker? More options are always better.
  17. I think your confusion is that stupid Gaussian's BU proc in Tactics. Turn tactics off.

Is there some way of getting Mids to let me turn tactics on without it turning that proc on?
  18. I wouldn't take option 1. Shield tanks are pretty squishy but people won't care, they will look at you and expect you to go pull those AVs and you will die.

Either 2 or 3 will be effective enough. I think you are over-estimating how difficult the incarnate trials are.
I am in the process of incarnating a pvp corrupter and as such, she has no defense at all. I am almost finished my incarnate build and she has yet to die in any trial (She has only been running BAF and Lam). She even pulled Siege once without trouble.
Don't think your defenseless defender will be gimp, you will be fine.

McDonald's is the largest fast food chain in the world. If you only have eaten a hamburger at McDonald's, you'd probably think that their hamburgers are the best in the world. That doesn't mean that you are right. Just because they've served over 3 billion (or whatever the number is now), doesn't make their hamburgers the best in the world.

In other words, Numbers =/= Best Quality. It just means that more people are content with lesser quality, cheaper products.
The last line is why your analogy fails. Farms aren't cheaper nor more available than Story Arcs. If all the burgers in the world were the exact same price and had the same availability, I can guarantee you that the best burgers would be the ones most consumed.

  21. My Crab would kick *** at damage cap. Between it's good damage, debuffs and pets, it lreday out-damages by Fire Brute when my Brute is at the damage cap and the Crab isn't.
If the Crab was there too, it would be so amazingly one-sided.
  22. Okay, so without capped Paragon Rewards, Prems can't get large inspirations but they can have Inner Inspiration which gives them 3 large inspirations.
So how does that power work on a Prem? Do they get the inspirations anyway or do they get mediums or do they get nothing?
  23. Go with 4 pains.
They can cap each other's recovery, damage and resists, buff each others regen to IH levels, plus have the best heals in the game.
With 4 stacks of maneuvers and some good pool power choices, capping defense with some cheap IOs won't be an issue.
  24. Looks pretty good. Extremely expensive but good.
One simple change to make would be taking that proc from Heavy Blow and putting it in Gloom.
If you are aiming for DPS, you won't be using Heavy Blow nor Initial Strike but I think you know that judging by your slotting.
About the survivability part, Darkest Night offers more to your survivability than anything your secondary has to offer (Arguments could be made about the heal and the offensive powers). Don't skip it if survivability is even a minor concern.

Thought I would comment on this specifically. This is actually one of the weaknesses of StJ - multiplying by 0.95 for accuracy doesn't work, you may miss 5% of the time but missing costs you more than the damage of that one attack, it also costs you a combo point. The DPS loss for missing with StJ is more than the usual 5% just don't ask me to figure out what it is exactly...
