This is absolutely a valid point. The timing of the Devs with their daily maintenance couldn't be worse.
I just convinced a significant number of my guildies from another MMO I used to play to come try out CoH due to the F2P. Considering we are all Australian and the daily "maintenance" happens to be in our primetime, everytime they try to play they can't.
Those guildies of mine now laugh at my attempts to get them to play CoH.

Considering the newest round of daily maintenance happens to coincide with their F2P announcements, how many other Australians/New Zealanders/Pacific Players have they managed to deter from playing CoH?

You can say you might be able to buy everything you want for free but that doesn't mean everyone has the same values that you do. With the examples you gave I think the majority of the playerbase are going to want far more than you.
This is a game that has had very little in end-game content for a considerable amount of time. Instead it has managed to sustain purely on the extreme alt-itis of it's playerbase. The average player is going to want to get their hands on each and every powerset the Devs come up with because that is why they are here.

Of course I'm not advocating that you get to keep the 'premium' content should you let your subscription lapse, at that point to continue to use the characters using those powersets you'd have to purchase the powersets.

This is the standard system for Hybrid subscription types, your subscription lets you access all the good stuff, and here you can have a little bit of pocket money (PP/AT etc) to buy treats.

With the current prices we are looking at the equivalent of a mid sized issue release every six months (Two powersets = 4 months PP, being generous and saying a costume set will cost the same), but that is without any of the 'nice things' like character slots, enhancement slots, exp boosters etc. being purchased.

    To summarise my view.

    • While you are subscribing powersets and other 'content' should be free for you to use.
    • Stop susbcribing you have to buy it to continue using it.
    • Monthly PP given while subscribed, is there for buying treats, or hoarding incase you go free.
Giving the free PP to Subscribers while they are already getting everything for free isn't a good idea. If that were the case they could just save up those PP and use them to unlock everything for the Premium account and never have to pay again.

I fail to see how that is not objective. Lemur is just displaying a capacity for patience that is largely lacking in MMO players.
My point is, if a powerset costs 800 points and we get 400 points a month and they release a new powerset each and every month, we can never have them all without spending more money on it.
I'm not saying that is going to be the case because I, like everyone else have no idea at the pace new content will be added to the store.
What I am saying, is we need to wait and see - blindly saying eventually we can get it all for free if we are patient enough is not necessarily true and should not be advertised as such.

It is ironic how in the rest of the quote you mentioned hypocrisy.
You question my objectivity when all you have done is blindly defend the changes without any genuine knowledge of what is to come. We don't know how quickly the new powersets will show up and we don't know how well our 400 points will keep up pace. Of the two of us, I am the only one who has shown the objectivity to make that assessment.
Blindly saying the 400 points is enough might be showing a good positive attitude but without knowledge of whether or not it is enough, it is the complete lack of objectivity.

I did not quote you in error. I was referring to the inherent hypocrisy in your call for patience and your prior statements in this thread.[/QUOTE]
I have made three posts in this thread, the one you quoted and two others. The prior statements make no contradictory remarks to the need for patience therefore they do not fit any definition of the word "hypocrisy" I suggest if you want to insult your fellow forumites, you stick to the facts - otherwise you just end up looking like a jerk.

    Burnout

Double Rage with a single crash sounds pretty nice.

Well first off. CoH is a business, it isn't a charity. With that in mind the changes can be guaranteed to be unfair. They are actively trying to increase their revenue, you and I are their source of revenue. to increase their revenue they have to take more from us. Anything else said on the matter is simply being naive.
Secondly, I don't know if you quoted me by mistake or not but trying to use the phrase "be patient and wait and see" with respect to someone who's post by very definition is about patience, is a little confusing. My post was specifically highlighting the fact that we will need to "wait and see" far beyond i21 to really see the effects of these changes.

I am not hating the system nor am I blindly defending the company without any sense of reason, I am being objective and objectivity seems to be something this thread seems extremely lacking in from both the for and against crowds.

If you want my opinion, I would prefer the prices to be as high as possible. From what we have seen so far the "pay to win" model is something the Devs are toying with. If the prices on the mundane are high, the prices of things that alter balance significantly will be far out of reach from the average player and unused. That is exactly how I want them.

Actually, I think it will be much later than issue 21 before we can make a fair assessment of the situation.
To figure out the true value of our 400 points per month, we need to see exactly how fast they are pumping out new "must have" content that has a purchase requirement.

At this point it seems likely that 400 points a month isn't going to keep up with the demands of new content but I for one would like to see how much of a point shortfall we will have.

Also, double xp is probably the biggest support to farming the Devs could offer. I think that pretty much says it all.

The money for our sub fees didn't go toward the development of these new paid sets, some of the money from GR and the Boosters did. Now the money from these sets will go toward whatever the next sets to be launched are.

It's just paid for on a case by case basis in Freedom instead of in big chunks with expansions. It's even free for those with the patience to wait a little while.

The money for our subs goes toward whatever THEY say it goes for, not what you decide it goes for. You haven't paid for this new stuff already, you paid for the months of time you got to play, and the things they decided to include as part of the new Issue 21.

Extra stuff is just that. Extra. If you don't think you're getting good value for your money, so be it. But you're not being asked to pay twice, you're not being gouged for wanting it all now. They're doing the same thing they've always done, leveraging the cost of early delivery by allowing people to pay a premium price for it if they want to.

Extra stuff is not free stuff, and no you don't deserve to have it be part of your subscription, and no it hasn't "always" been that way before.
You can call me wrong but that doesn't make it true.
This is a mmo, currently our subs are their sole source of income. Anything they do while on the clock is paid for by our subs.

If I had employed a maid to clean my house and then she decided to ask me for a bonus because she vacuumed the floor in addition to cleaning the house, I would have to sit her down and explain to her very carefully that vacuuming the floor is among my expectations included within "cleaning the house". If she couldn't understand that, I would have to reluctantly let her go.

The problem isn't whether or not we get to choose what we get.
The problem is that before we didn't choose because we got EVERYTHING.

You might try and use some kind of logic that with the extra income from Freedom they will churn out new stuff faster than we are used to because they can afford a larger development team. To that, I say what about now? What about Beam Guns and Street Justice and all of this stuff developed before that extra income starts rolling in? That stuff was created with the money from our $15 subscriptions. Without Freedom those sets that we paid for with our subbscriptions would be ours for free. Each and every one of them. Everything for sale in Freedom is stuff developed during the time that we paid for.

So why do we have to pay again?

    Uses for Burnout

How are people saying things like "perma elude" with reference to Burnout?
Just how fast can you get Burnout recharging exactly? Wouldn't a power need to have a duration as long as the recharge on Burnout to use it to get something perma?

Those who can do 24's should be able to.
The lag experienced in a 24 man BAF has nothing to do with your computer, it is server lag.
I have a strogn internet connection and a solid rig too but I am subject to it's effects. I do live in Australia and have a higher ping but that ping isn't any worse in Baf or standing around in an unoccupied zone like Bloody Bay.

I'm not sure how you managed to have good performance in a 24 man BAF, maybe it was an aberration, maybe there wasn't a single pet or pet effect on the field and that made the difference or maybe and this I suspect is why people continue to run 24 man BAFs; They don't actually realize is it causing them lag - just FYI when you try to activate a long recharge ability that appears ready to use but instead of activation it gives a "recharging" message, that is lag.

Maybe it is something else too, that "recharging" effect might be due to a combination of lag and a whole lot of +recharge in your build. I might have to test that.
  14. Kudos for being willing to give someone a hand and show the the ropes. Seriously.

I don't think the problem was the "ITF" part, the problem was the "Speed" part. You can't really take someone new into a TF and charge on at speed and expect them to keep up with no knowledge on what to do, a rookie really needs a bit more guidance and things explained to them.
Granted, you didn't have time for anything elaborate but I think a better solution would have been adding him as a friend and taking him through another day when you could committ to a proper tutorial.

    That is absurd.
Using 24 players is fine if the game can support it but the amount of lag we endure suggests the game cannot. Enabling a feature of the game which is cannot support is poor design.
Look I can underline things too!
  16. I have played a lot of mmos that require the perfect team to be able to compete.
I absolutely love the fact that CoH has changed that formula and made it so we are all capable of soloing everything in the game.
If I want strategy I'll play something else, if I want to feel like a God I'll play City of Heroes. CoH offers something no other mmo does, why would they want to ditch their niche and become another generic mmo?

As a side note, if your characters are too powerful for the content of the game, take them to a PVP zone. I assure you fighting other characters that are too powerful for the content of the game will always be challenging, choosing to ignore the most difficult content of the game seems to be a flaw in most of the CoH playerbase.
  17. If there is someone advertising a team in Broadcast and there isn;t enough remaining players to start a new team. My options are take the lagfest or do nothing.
I am not always in control of how many people are in a BAF. Some people fill it right up because they have no idea how the game is played, give them the option to do something and they will regardless of how much it hurts the team.

Saying "just stick with 16 men" is akin to Steel Canyon crashing everytime there is more than 20 people in there and expecting me to monitor it's usage so I can go in without crashing the zone.
I don't pay for this game to sit around waiting nor do I pay for this game to deal with these issues that can be fixed with a few minutes work.
  18. They don't need to spend money increasing the server's performance, they don't need to devote a lot of time and resources to this issue.
All they have to do is cap the number of people allowed into BAF at one time to 16. It is a simple fix that would take less than 3 minutes to implement.
  19. do you still get the crash from Lightform if you renew it before the duration ends?
For that matter, is it still effected by +recharge and able to be made perma?

Actually I think PVP is making a comeback.
A significant majority of the people my farmer farms up all say their character is designed for the same purpose: PVP.

It makes sense too, when you are done with the end-game content you have 3 options left: PVP, make a new character and do it all again, or quit the game and look for something more interesting. There are only so many times you can make new characters and do the same grind over and over again before boredom forces you to move onto option C. The rest of us PVP.

PVP is the only true end-game of any MMO.

You can turn Endurance into Health but the reverse isn't true.
  22. Ageless is actually the best imo and by quite a margin.
At the lowest point of the buff (ie just before it is about to expire) it is the equivalent of giving everyone around you two free Stamina powers fully slotted. That is hugely powerful, plus it gives some nice recharge bonuses.
With all that extra recovery, you can go ahead and unslot all of the endreducs from your abilities and find something more useful.
  23. I'm glad I watched that video.
The ridiculously powerful AT specific IO sets they are releasing for Micro-Transactions had me a little paranoid but that video gave me a little hope. I hadn't actually considered the Dev's might put them in the game in addition to Micro-Transactions until I watched this.

Let's hope the Devs do this right.
  24. I love pvp but the Shadow Shard would be a horrible zone for it. Even in games purely based on pvp like Warhammer, the larger zones suck for it.
Can you imagine how long it would take to find someone to kill in that massive zone? You idea would literally destroy the last little bit of pvp we have left.
I'd rather a small zone like Pocket D be turned into a pvp zone.
