  1. I was mostly bothered by the immersion-breaking points, of which there were several.

The train now goes to Boomtown? To caves? To the 5th Column's secret base?

    Akarist is a villain?

The 5th ONLY return in the TF/SF?

Aside from that, very little was done that players couldn't do in the MA, aside from the Reichman and whatever the temp powers are supposed to do. There was also very little challenge factor outside of the very last mission, with what equates to basically two glowie missions jammed in the middle.

I want to love it, I really do... it just isn't there yet.
  2. I *should* be able to make this. I can bring any one of the following:

    *Grav/Storm Controller
    *Plant/Rad Controller
    *Kin/Rad Defender
    *Spines/Fire Scrapper
    *Peacebringer
    *Ice/DB Tanker
    *Shield/Mace Tanker

I think I'm forgetting one, but... anyway, I'll being whatever the team needs. I think the ice tank and Peacebringer are the only toons without the badge.
  3. This is a feature that has been added in i15, which you can check out on the Test server. The level range is set per-mission... and it's a GREAT feature.
  4. Am I the only one that doesn't see anything wrong with this picture?
  5. Awesome! My Seraphina question got answered (though I almost missed it)! Here's to hoping this one gets answered as well

Is there a given reason for the Rikti's vulnerability/aversion to magic? I've got another arc that gives a reason for this, but I want it to fall within canon, if at all possible.

Of course, I also have Hurdle three-slotted, Combat Jumping and enough +Movement from IO set bonuses and other sources to give that character a total Jump Speed of ~53 mph, so bouncing into and out of spawns is relatively easy for me... and something I'd be doing anyway, for no good reason other than the joy of bouncing... *shrug*

So Luminara is not only the official master of Trick Arrow, but also the official Defender Forum Pogo Stick?

    I lol'd.
  7. The patch notes do include a note stating that custom critter ranged attacks in melee sets will now be using the ranged damage table. Woot.

No. The devs are going to leave us in the dark this time. They think it adds to the mystery.

I can't believe there aren't any patch notes! They probably aren't up because ____________!

    A) the devs hate us
    B) the devs are too lazy
    C) the devs don't know what they're doing
    D) the devs are too busy nerfing PvP and villains
    E) the devs are too busy banning everyone for getting more than 12 exp/hr

Apologies for the delay, you can start patching now but access to the Training Rooms won't be enabled for a little while longer. We will keep you posted as soon as possible!

I appreciate y'all holding off opening the Training Room until I get home from work, that's very considerate.

Two and a half more hours to go

  17. I'm not sure if you mean Miss or Ms. Liberty (two different NPCs), but one of them IS available (just added her to an arc I'm working on). She is part of the Vindicators.

    Hope that helps.
  18. I did something similar in one of my lowbie arcs. I had a mix of custom mobs and various other low-level groups from the game, each with unique, overlapping level ranges.

To get everything to "line up," I set the enemy type for each to Coralax (the 5-15 group). Then I added enough "defeat a boss" objectives (of any group I wanted) to completely override the Coralax spawns. I made sure they were not required for the mission complete, and voila, a consistent level range regardless of the mob types actually seen.

This did have one caveat that I saw, in that "defeat a boss" choices for existing, in-game mobs only allows you to select boss-rank NPCs as the objective, forcing the mission to have bosses no matter what. If you are selecting from custom mobs, they can be of any rank.

On the up-side, this DOES allow you to set the starting animation for EVERY mob in the mission, though in this case only for standard mobs.
  19. I'm just hoping to see the MA station and "datastream" for bases... I would NEVER leave the base
  20. Genesis Man

    giant monster?

Huh... I remember the Coralax were added to the Hollows, didn't know about the Legacy Chain. Good to know.
  21. Genesis Man

    giant monster?

Giant Monsters and Monsters are still waiting to return with the coding to allow them only in outdoor maps (presumably). That said, there are still some giant-sized AVs available, which is somewhat similar. An AV version of Adamastor exists, and the Wailer Lord is also a large-ish EB/AV. I'm not aware of others at the moment.

The Blade Prince (CoT) is also pretty rare (for CoT), but also has a somewhat limited spawning range, iirc.

Unique mobs really depend on the context (red v. blue-side). You never see Legacy Chain in CoH, rarely see Coralax, Snakes AREN'T everywhere... etc. Villains rarely get to see anything Rularu-related, I don't recall seeing any Hydra and the Lost have a pretty low profile. Also, infusing existing groups with a custom mob here or there can go a long way to making an tired-group fresh and new. For example, I removed the Illusionists and Master Illusionists from my Carnie missions and replaced them with a new lieutenant and boss (mostly because I find combating phasing enemies to be QUITE annoying).

Thanks for that, I'll have to look into it. Of course, I'm now in a position where an unpaid internship isn't feasible (already out in the workplace making money to pay the bills), so now I even have to be picky in that regard.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Yeah, I hear that. You should be able to find something that'll pay at least enough to handle the bills, especially with the ECA's help. Most places should be pretty accommodating.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Interesting. If that's the case, I may need to bake you a pie or something...

I've also already placed one internship under my belt, but due to an NDA I signed (TV pilot) and the subsequent tanking of the project, I have nothing to show for 3 months of work. The studio doesn't even do CG work anymore :|

    [/ QUOTE ]

Ooo, ouch. Can you at least get references from the studio? Even if they don't do the work anymore, there should be somebody who can vouch for your part in the project, even if it didn't go anywhere.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Yes and no. The people I worked for where very appreciative of my work and told me they'd be references at any time, but I've since lost touch with them. Networking is definitely a skill I'm still working on

Sadly, I've been looking to get into the CG Graphics field for some time (and have had my eye on CoX since getting out of college), and the "experience required to get experience" clause is quite a deterrent, much more so the "have 1-2 shipped titles." You just don't see "have talent in these areas and a hunger for learning" very often...

    [/ QUOTE ]

That's where an internship comes in handy. There's a surprising number of development houses in odd places; I've got one in town that I didn't know about for years. If you're not sure where to go, check out the ECA. They've got a newsletter just about every day, and they usually post job openings (they haven't for the past week, but they've been covering conferences, so I don't expect that to last). They should be able to hook you up with a developer somewhere near you.

I don't qualify for any of these... how can you get into the game industry if they're always looking for game industry experience????

I'd LOVE to be a QA tester for this game.

    [/ QUOTE ]

The "experience required" flag is put onto job postings to limit the number of applicants who flat out would not qualify. It is not, however, a "hard" requirement -- if someone is sufficiently gifted and does very well on the various tests/interviews they can still be hired. It's happened before, it will happen again....but it is rare.

Work on Mods to popular games in your free time. This isn't "real" game development experience, in that it isn't usually a paid position, but it can teach you a lot about the why's and wherefore's of game development. This is more true if you work as part of a team, rather than solo mods.

Write Pen and Paper game designs. Whether adventures, game systems or settings, designing these can and does help you hone your skills and can be used as a sort of "portfolio" of design work in some cases.

Lastly, and best if you can get it, work as an intern at a game company. There is no better way to get past the "no experience" boundary than this.

It's even more frustrating when you have a dream position (like working on the CoX team would be for me), but you know you'll likely have to take baby steps to get there (knowing full well the franchise might not last forever). Oh well, a fellow can dream.
