As it is now, what if you accidentally kick an enemy off a tall cliff? That's a chunk of XP that you don't get because the physics damaged the enemy.

And heck I'd even like to see KB do damage if you smash an enemy into a wall, but that would be crazy hard to suddenly put in like that.
There is a strategic advantage. For the time it takes the poor soul to hike back up the cliff/fire escape, their damage is 100% mitigated. The chunk of XP you lose is insignificant.

As far as the attacker "owning" that damage, that would be very bad. In another MMO I played, players owned NPC's falling damage, and the Monk class could have 100% resistance to falling damage. Before things got patched up, Monks would aggro 1,000 guys, jump off a cliff, and level up.

For the OP, we don't "kill" 90% of what we defeat in this game. Besides, isn't this game violent enough without gore? I like that I have a game I can recommend to my friends' teenage kids.
  2. I think this will help people new to Khelds gain an understanding of what a Peacebringer can do out of the box. They may appear less scary with these parallels clearly defined here.

I do have to nit-pick one tiny thing, though. Antagonize = Provoke not Taunt.

Considering Taunt is more well-known, it's not a huge thing.

    Great write-up.
  3. 1) Sounds good!

    2) I don't want my Performance Shifters to have to go away. I'm going to say no to this unless I can keep that IO.

    3) I like the overall idea, but I'd say the Powerboost part has to go.

    4) Yeah!

    To add:
    5) Make actual shifting animation 2x faster. Actually, this is all I want for Khelds.
  4. Well the devs have hinted at the idea of really improving team mechanics/ team building. If that is what they have in mind, then I'm pretty pleased (as long as it's as elegant and wonderful as the side-kick revamp).

Seriously Clave, Redside has some idea of what a Tanker can do thanks to buffed Brutes, but a true Tanker would be welcomed on just about any Strike Force. Do it.

I had to add: For some reason the only AT that makes me do a double-take in Paragon is Masterminds.

The only reasons Shaffakoom is still alive is because Cedric could never find a way to actually kill the beast, but years of torture and conditioning have turned this once proud warrior into an unquestioning servant, though he still lays claim to his old pride and dignity.

I don't know what AT and Powersets to make this guy. I don't want to go Tanker "just because," but I can still go Brute. Question is, what powersets do I give him? I kind of want to avoid repeating Super Strength for both of these guys, and I ESPECIALLY don't want to go Super Strength/Invulnerability because I already have a Brute like that. I'm really open to suggestions on this guy.
Well, the way I started was thinking of what a lizard is. They are cold-blooded, love heat (and pretty darn resistant to it). Some can regenerate, and the ones that fight are vicious.

Spines/Regen Scrapper? Even though he is wearing thick armor, spines seems like something that could be natural for his race (plenty of lizards and dinosaurs have spines...just not as depicted in this game).

    Iprit:

This pile of putrid, rotten flesh is actually an entire ecosystem of micro-organisms living in symbiosis in the shape of a walking, talking creature. One of his kind, Iprit is a walking, talking pile of poisons and toxins, killing and mutating living creatures and sometimes even animating the carcasses of the dead with sentient bacteria. His homeworld proved to be far too uninhabitable for Cedric's empire and the entire planet was cleansed by fire and quarantined, but Cedric kept this particular creature for himself. Despite its revolting appearance, Iprit is a highly intelligent, driven creature which chose to follow Lord Cedric for no reason other than because this gave it free reign to spread its evil diseases on worlds which opposed his master.

I have a fairly good idea what I want to make this guy. I'm thinking Necromancy/Poison Mastermind as that fits both Iprit's appearance and the theme of being poisonous and toxic, and I'm not sure what else can accomplish this. One point of fact is that I don't want to play team support, so ATs with team-support powersets do not apply. I don't know if Corruptors also have access to Poison, but even if they do, I don't want to play a Corruptor.
I think you're going in the right direction here. The only thing I could think of is a Radiation/Fire Blaster. Colorize both sets to appear grossly toxic. Of course this foregoes his cool Necro abilities. I definitely wouldn't want to be near a Rad/Fire Blaster (especially if he looked like that).

    Duriel:

Duriel is, or rather was, the queen and hive mother of an entire star system of worlds colonised by physically evolved but technologically inferior insects. Recognising the overwhelming might of Cedric's armies as well as the opportunities his sciences and technologies offered her kind, Duriel offered to become his thrall, placing her spawn at his service. Duriel's loyalty has never been called into question, in part because the fate of those who would is grim, but her motivations are rather less than idealistic.

I'm not sure where I want to go with this one. My basic inspiration for her was Infested Kerrigan, the Queen of Blades, but I don't want to shoot for a ripoff and I don't really know what her powers are, anyway. For this one, I was thinking something like a Stalker, either with Dark powers or some kind of Claws, but I just don't know. I guess I could go Scrapper, but I have so many of these I'm bound to repeat myself no matter what I choose. Any advise here is appreciated.
I wish I could suggest something that isn't a repeat, but all these guys speak "melee" to me. If you go with Claws on her, I must recommend pairing Organic Armor Gloves (if you have the Mutant Booster) with Villainous Claws. They pair up so very well, and would look great on a bug.

In another MMO, that was my job, and I did it better than any of my friends. Just fills me with a bit of nostalgia while I play a better game.

That's why I went for Smashing/Lethal instead. Though typed Defense isn't as foolproof as positional it provides you with more versatility and, for Kheldians, versatility is the name of the game.
My running theory is that when I'm ranged, I'm squishy, and that's okay. When in melee, I'm tough, but not tough enough. Getting tougher in melee means more to me than bumping up Nova's "survivability". My main is a Blaster, so I'm used to this mentality. You're right about getting positional DEF without making some hard sacrifices is really difficult. I was hoping to get +DMG and +Melee DEF from bonuses, but that just won't happen. Nova doesn't need too much help being an engine of destruction, but sacrificing it's slots to make Dwarf better seems rather pointless (may as well go bi-form for that route).

*Still waiting for my Gladiator +def uniques for both builds.
You have some really good numbers going! I'll definitely post here as soon as I at least have a Mid's build going. I'm very impatient, so that may take me awhile. I got about 1/10th done when I could hear my girlfriend actually playing the game. The siren's song was too much for me to take, and I dropped Mid's for actual CoH goodness.

    Ultimate Forms?

Budget won't really be an issue (aside from stupid expensive PvP sets that I'm going to avoid). My main enemy is slotting, and levels.

I want to be sure that the powers I'm slotting are powers I like, and will continue to use. I'm not usually against mules, but for some reason they give me the willies on my Peacebringer.

Levels are an enemy because I'd love to get this off the ground with lvl 30-35 IO's for the ability to be super-uber now/soon, and to exemplar well.

In your experience, should I focus on one aspect more than the other to start out? The DEF would be great in Dwarf, but of course killing faster has practically the same effect. I suppose the best idea is to slot the Nova attacks, and let them get me the DEF bonuses*. I'm glad someone else has done this, so thanks for sharing! Now all of my excited pseudo-planning has blossomed into "Get me into the game NOW!"

*Edit: After some ParagonWiki surfing I see why you frankenslotted the Nova attacks. I suppose keeping Melee Defense bonuses out of Ranged attacks is an attempt to keep ranged characters out of melee. Too bad, devs!

    Ultimate Forms?

Let me just briefly go over my "Mission Statement" for this tentative project: "Tank as good as a Tanker, blast as good as a Blaster."

Strictly impossible, but the goal is to get close. Ideally, lots of Melee Defense while in Dwarf, and lots of Damage in Nova without gimping. I don't care if my Nova is squishy...it was built that way. Besides, my Warshade can do the "gunship" thing.

I see a lot of discussion when it comes to rounding out the edges of each of a Kheldian's forms, but I don't see discussions about using IO's to basically overload the forms.

Has anyone done something like this, and was it effective? I'm planning on taking my (currently lvl 27) Peacebringer to these heights just because my Warshade doesn't need much help. Please share your stories if you have any!
  11. I only recently discovered the glory that is 3 Tankers and 1 Warshade. All 20+ for the record, but a record-breaking number of aggroed spawns all getting wiped out by fire, axe, fists, and dark cosmic forces.

Really, anything will work! I'm tempted to say all Villain Epics, though. They will all multiply each other's survivability to ridiculous levels even early on.

Death is a hero. Death is the ultimate figure of mercy, fairness, and transition.

Make an Empathy Defender. The ones you can't save in time are meant to go!

I like that is start off with a melee strike rather then an single target immobilize but I think Disorient is probably a bit strong for a 1st tier secondary. Usually you are doing pretty good to have a sleep move or a knock back.

I think you should add percentage change for some of these secondary effects to trigger. For example:

    Focused Strike

    1

Melee, Minor DMG(Smash), Foe Disorient 20% chance

    Distract

    2

Ranged Foe Confuse (Mag 1 very short duration) -DEF

    Body Kick

    4

Melee, Moderate DMG(Smash), Foe Knockback 50%

    etc. etc.
Hey, fine by me. I admit mine looks a bit overpowered without numbers. I just don't want a "quick'n'dirty" set based entirely on existing powers (no offense intended to prior posters). If we're going to get "Martial Maniuplation" I want it to really stand out.

Edited to add: Maybe Distract should have Sleep instead of Confuse, actually. Somehow that status effect slipped my mind, and it seems to fit the idea of "Hey look over there!"
  14. Threw this together only because I agree. Tear it apart all you want, let's get it "perfect" and then submit it for consideration! I know, I know "Boo! No Buildup!". I just want it to be very unique.

    Focused Strike

    1

    Melee, Minor DMG(Smash), Foe Disorient

    Distract

    2

Ranged Foe Confuse (Mag 1 very short duration) -DEF

    Body Kick

    4

    Melee, Moderate DMG(Smash), Foe Knockback

    Keen Sight

    10

    Toggle: Self +To-Hit, +Perception, +Range

    Sweep Kick

    16

Melee PBAoE Moderate DMG (Smash) Knockdown, Foe Disorient

    First Strike

    20

Auto: Self+Special (Undamaged enemies get double[?] damage)

    Quickness

    28

    Auto: Self +Res (-Recharge, -SPD), +Recharge, +SPD

    Blinding Powder

    35

Ranged (Cone), Foe Sleep, Confuse, -To-Hit, -Perception

    Vital Blow

    38

    Melee, Superior DMG(Smash), Foe Hold

  16. I've been playing since 2004, and didn't get one single level 50 character until 2007.

Concepts for characters intrude my thoughts while at work, and I write down usually 2-3 a week, usually actually creating 1.

Let me see if my fellow alt-aholics fall into this trap:
You get inspired, say an Electric/Shield Scrapper. "Wow, 2 Teleport attacks sounds fun!"

You begin to make the character and look at Super Strength. "Geez, that synergy looks pretty cool, actually."

You make a Shield/Super Strength Tanker. "Well, I really should check out what I orginally conceptualized."

You make a Rad/Fire Blaster. "What just happened?!"

You make an Earth/Fire Dominator, capping your slots on the server. "Crap! Well, I don't have anyone on Pinnacle. I can make my Electric/Shield Scrapper there!"

You make an Ice/Ice Defender. "Damn."

Just as a disclaimer, I try not to be fussy about other people's builds. I've actually teamed with petless Masterminds (concept/man builds are a-okay). I'm sad when the Kinetics I invite doesn't have Speed Boost, but I don't rap their knuckles.

  19. n00bs (not Newbies) give Energy a bad name, and there are a lot of them! I try to use my Energy responsibly, and corner enemies into walls, blast them back into AoE's, and throw troublesome guys off of rooftops (to deal with them later).

n00bs just activate their knockback powers by randomly slapping the keyboard, bouncing enemies around willy-nilly while their high-pitched manic laugher is choked by mouthfulls of chocolate cake.

To answer your question, yes. Only people who don't know what they're doing get booted. I get critisized only until they see me play and realize I'm not one of those slack-jawed, vacantly moon-faced, unwashed, sippycup full of Redbull, booger-barons.

    P.S. I don't like n00bs.

The bind I posted will toggle off Super Jump only if you let go of the Spacebar. The bind is flawed, admittedly, but for those testing/using it...don't let go of that key unless you want SJ off, and CJ on.

Thanks for pointing that out, Father Xmas. I suppose there's even more to tweak to make this user-friendly.

Thanks for the pointers/support guys. I'll keep tweaking. If I happen to find the ultimate magic syntax to completely automate superjump, I will gladly share it so we can all live up to our glowing god pictured above!
  22. "Rouge Angle"

"along time a go a demon was born but didnt' want to be ademon so he went to paragon to be a heroe and become a angle. his quest is to find his father and defeat him but also his girlfriend dosent want him to. he can eat like 50 sandwhitches in a day."

    How did I do?
  23. I'm tired of juggling Super Jump's toggle so I came up with this:

    Code:
    /bind space "+up$$powexec_toggleon Super Jump$$powexec_toggleon Combat Jumping"
This may not be 100% exact, as I was testing this in-game yesterday and didn't write it down. Basically, as long as I have Combat Jumping on from the get-go, Super Jump pops on when I hold the Space Bar down, and switches to Combat Jumping when I let go.

Due to lag, your first jump may be gimped. Also, hammering the button can get it out of sync (as in Combat Jumping and Super Jump are switched). Does anyone have any advice on addressing these issues?
  24. This is absolutely amazing! Thank you very much.

    /superhero high five
  25. I absolutely love my Energy/Devices Blaster. I haven't yet played a more survivable Blaster, but I'm hoping for even more.

So what is it I'm after? What a lot of sensible level 50 Blasters want: Softcapped Ranged Defense! My only problem is that I'm incredibly lazy. For the folks that like putting this sort of thing together, would you help a guy out?

Bonus points for leaving out Power Push, Time Bomb, and Hasten. More bonus points for including Recall Friend, Flight, and the Force Mastery APP (all for thematic purposes). Feel free to ignore these challenges, as it does make this begger a chooser. Besides, what are alternate builds for?

For those that want to be helpful, but don't want to create a build, maybe just point me in the direction of some IO sets I should pay close attention to? Any constructive input is appreciated!
