I like this idea. It allows people to test out plenty of builds without the dreaded LEVEL 50 BUTTON. It'd be nice to see what some of my lowbies would be capable of at higher levels.
My exploit senses are still tingling, though. Make it so you can only team with other Alternate Avatars or solo, and you have a deal! -
Just to clarify, what I intended to mean is that this hypothetical build has everything capped in either option 1, or 2 respectively. If I wanted to turn any AT into a "Tank", what option would be more durable (if any).
However you make some really good points. I imagine a Blapper would really like to focus on S/L more than anything else, while a classic Blaster would probably value Ranged more.
I'm finally getting into build strategies, so I just wanted to hear some opinions on what looks to me as two equal options (if money, time, and slots were no consideration). -
So I don't make a wall of text, I'll form this as a hypothetical. Let's say...
My scrapper has 113 trillion inf. I have 2 Defense softcap builds mapped out in Mids. Since I couldn't decide which one I liked better, I bought all the IO's for both. Which one should I go for:
1. Smashing/Lethal, Energy/Negative, and Fire/Cold
2. Melee, AoE, and Ranged
Please assume an ideal build (as in, not significantly lacking in any other metric).
Basically, is there much of an operational difference between the two methods? Obviously PSI is a concern on the first build, but don't some PSI attacks lack a positional designation anyway? Is our hypothetical survival identical in these cases? -
Currently, the only thing I have against LFA is the proponents harassing me to join. Go ahead and do the broadcast/request spam (the public needs to know about you somehow), but please stop sending PM's.
My advice*: Join as many server channels as you can. If you find yourself in extreme disagreement with a mod, or a channel's policy, forcus on another for awhile. If you get some static in every channel you're in...you are probably the issue.
*Naturally, this is the internet, and I am a hypocrite. I'm currently only lurking in one channel. /shrug -
Quote:A fine list, really. But at least rent Contact. That goes for all of you!Okay, so far I picked up:
- Batman Begins
- The Dark Knight
- Speed Racer
- Sunshine
- The Fifth Element
- The Patriot
- Pan's Labyrinth
- Spider-Man
- Spider-Man 2
- Spider-Man 3
- Inception
- The Fountain
- Watchmen
- Planet Earth
Also, some older movies are getting cheap transfers to Blue Ray and ending up in bargain bins. I bought the Errol Flynn version of Robin Hood, and was completely shocked at how crisp and beautiful it was. -
Tex, I'm not trying to be dismissive or rude, but this debate is completely over. Both sides will remain strongly commited to their opinions no matter how eloquently we all state our cases (as you did exceptionally well in my opinion).
Let's try to let this thread continue closer to the orginal (fun!) topic since the "healer" one has been done to death. -
Quote:I can count on being in at least a duo (thank goodness the woman plays). If you team a lot with your blaster, Sonic may give you better overall team damage contribution than Fire, depending on the situation.
I've decided to go for Defender thanks to some glowing reviews here, and the fact that I have so many danged Blasters. All I need to do is quit waffling on a primary, and I'm all set! Thanks for the input everybody -
Dear Santa,
Please give me recipes for the costumes I unlock doing various tasks about Paragon. The Roman pieces, and Vanguard especially! My tech blaster doesn't need the Roman armor, but he would gladly give them to my poor lvl 25 scrapper.
Also, not to be greedy, but please halve form-shifting times for all Kheldians.
Everything else is great!
Thanks,
Gehnen -
Now that we have some other choices for emanation points on Sonic Blast, I really want to create a character with that set. My casual goal is crazy damage so a Blaster seems like a good choice, but a Defender has greater debuff potential (compromise with a Corruptor?).
Which one has more overall damage potential? Which is more fun? For a Defender, what's a fun/cool/uber pairing?
Opinions, please! -
I avoid duping powersets as much as possible, but I do have some obsessions.
At least half of my characters are Tech origin (with a good mix of all the others for the rest of my characters). I also tend to use the Flight pool a whole lot. -
Quote:Gehnen overheard the whole speech, and is overcome with the realization of the 4th wall. Donning a purple internet suit (and after burning his gimp suit), he dives for another Pocket D patron's laptop.Zack unzipped the mouth of the mask, took a sip of beer. Pocket D was now swimming a little bit in front of Zack--not alarmingly so, just a little. It was pleasant as the alcohol kicked in and made the tops of his molars numb.
He decided, just on a whim, to shout to the bar, trying to make himself heard over the din of the music, "You know, none of you freaks should even exist! Half of what you do is physically impossible! Throwing cars, picking up aircraft carriers, burning holes through steel with hard looks, all it! The whole damn thing! All of it!"
He was slurring just a little, "Jusht all of it! Straight up bovine sca--you know, cow pucks! Malarkey! Balderdash!"
Zack took another swallow of beer, "The mask on my face isn't even here! You know what? YOU KNOW WHAT?! I bet we're all characters of fiction right now! Right at this very moment! There is no other rational explanation. Snapping dance clubs in an out of existence. Flying around without means of support! And I may be the gimp here but I'm better than all of you jokers! At least I know I'm fiction and that's better then you four color, spandex palookas!"
He mumbled incoherently for a few seconds, rubbing his face and eyes through the mask and then rapped the bar, "At least the beer's tasty. Gimme another!"
He types furiously into his favorite search engine, and finds what he's looking for: www.cityofheroes.com.

Quote:Well, it really sounds like this is no longer the game for you. I'm not saying this to be mean, I've had to move on from a game before. Suddenly the direction they were going didn't fit me, and I came here. I sincerely hope you find something here that makes your sub worth the money. My brute wants to hurl rocks and footstomp NOW not several weeks from now. My brute wants to have a full attack chain, dish out full damage and have full defenses NOW. I really don't like operating at partial strength.
I want the leveling to 50 to be real quick, then the developers can make all future content for level 50s.
What if I want to try out an illusion controller some weekend? Its weeks of "work" through stuff I've done many times before until I get the higher illusion powers. The content is not "skipped" I've done it all before.
I'd bet that most players that want Free to Play don't have a firm grasp on just how drastically that would change the game. -
My Rogue went from 24 to 25 without a single tip. I figured it was just really bad luck, but this is some kind of known issue?
He's one tip and one alignment mission away from Vigilante, so it's particularly frustrating. -
...and then Superman climbs aboard his Light Cycle, and speeds away!
-
ThatGuyThere hit the nail on the head (I just wish I could remember his name!).
An effective inf sink needs to be sought after, and widely accessible. If it's too expensive, then less inf will be burned. If it's too cheap, then it's also ineffective. If it's a strict lottery, then not enough gets removed from the system.
Seebs, I love that you're not coming up with the same old tired ideas, but I have to disagree on this suggestion. Whatever inf sink gets added, I don't think it should come in the form of a penalty. Ideally, I'll be tap-dancing after spending 200mil on some MacGuffin.
I think respecs should have been sold for inf, but it's too late now. We need to come up with something that is universally valued, but isn't already sold for real-world money and doesn't step on the Market's toes. -
They just drop randomly. I'm usually very lucky (I can normally get a tip within 2 spawns).
However...
Yesterday I wanted to get my Rogue Soldier into Vigilante territory. I got halfway through level 24 without a single tip, and gave up! I finally understand why these threads come up now -
Heck yeah, as costume/power options...not as a set.
I'd make an Assault Rifle character today if I could make it an armcannon guy. -
My opinion: I think this was a design choice to keep lowbie characters more desirable to play. I can't say the outcome is exactly that, but this is the impression I get.
At first glance Silver Gale's suggestion looks pretty good to me. -
I don't understand the complainers (I don't consider the OP one of them). I felt really embarrassed for that guy at the meet'n'greet whining directly to the devs in-person, "We get screwed!"
For anyone still squealing about slots, let me spell this out for you...
4 Free Powers.
Just in case that isn't enough, here is what you sound like to reasonable people:"Waaaaa! I won a free car, but they didn't give me a garage! Waaaaaa!" -
Didn't we learn anything from the terrifying "Weekend at Bernie's" movies? I mean, they're cautionary tales about letting the dead rest, right?
'Cause if they were comedies, I would have heard somone laughing. -
Yeah, I'll catch that on cable. Also...
*SPOILER GUESS*
Obviously, she's the wolf. -
Absolutely, with no caveats. Go for it.

Someone may have never been a part of actual (good) roleplay, and is making fun of their perception of roleplay.
That's the impression I get anyway.
