    You are a Slinky.
    The bots/emp was obviously a mistake, and it's very common knowledge that Villains initially couldn't get to level 50 (you know, before Patrons were introduced?).

    You sir, are the Slinky. Correct yourself.

    Squid, we're not all like this chump. If I had a villian SG, you'd be more than welcome to join. Welcome (back) to Liberty!
  3. Well, nowadays people can rely on their Safeguard/Mayhem travel powers. I have a lvl 18 WP Tank in the same position as that guy. So much neat stuff unlocks too fast and early to get a danged travel power!

    2 years ago I saw someone with every travel power. Apparently the whole team sent her a tell asking her why just because we were all a little shocked and amused. Finally she blurts out in Teamchat, “Have any of you heard of the Shadow Shard?! I have Superspeed for my regular travel and the rest is for there, JEEZ!” and quits.

    The rest of the play session was haunted with all of us trying to figure out why you would need every travel power for Shadow Shard.
  4. Definitely Saturday preferred. You ran a darn good Mothership Raid...why mess with a good thing, eh?

    The second run was better with the bubble types *finally* getting a clue and overlapping with yours. Un-freaking stoppable when we all crowded in the middle. I was so jealous of the Warshade that got to Extract Essence on the GM!

    Epic.

  6. In your example, it’s the greatest evil that gets defeated. So presumably the next greatest evil becomes the greatest. Zealous heroes would eventually bust jaywalkers, (as all other evils have been eliminated) and reveal the great paradox that is a hero. By nature, heroes want to instill control, and that’s fairly evil. Social control is very fascist.

    The heroes then become the villains. Rebellious meta-humans would rise up against them, disregarding the status-quo to pursue freedom. These would be behaviors that would classify them as “villains” in the previous world, but due to the current circumstances are considered heroic.

    Then we start all over. Lightning strikes, and balance is achieved until there is an inevitable disparity in positive and negative charges again.

    Most villains are just born in the wrong time. Someone who goes out and kills tigers today is a villain. 100 years ago they were a hero.

    Yes I’m aware of the obvious exceptions, let’s not make it a discussion about that.

    If I this isn’t a philosophical question please disregard the above and take the following answer: My hero would open up an ice-cream shop in southern California.

    Kheldian naming?

    I only have one PB and Warshade. PB is "Silver Sol". My Warshade is named after my (long since retired) Star Wars Galaxies character: Varkahn.

    My girlfriend has a PB named Forfax. It's the name of the angel of constellations. She made it on Monday, so I'm shocked it wasn't already taken.
  8. My vote's on EM, too. The +perception is nice, the webnades are nice…but you will have 0 time to plant mines or caltrops as a Blaster in RV (and even if you do, good luck coaxing a baddy into your well-laid trap). Range Boost is a big winner…the range of a snipe without all that wind-up and interrupt time.

    I’m not saying /Devices can’t be successful, it will just require more fine-tuning and tactics. /EM will satisfy practically “out of the box”.>>

    I've never liked this idea (sorry to the original poster), but I got a really good feeling of why I don't like it during I16 beta. Characters with proliferated powers got 2 level bumps during the duration of beta, once to 35, and then again to 50. Obviously the devs wanted us to try out the high-end content and powers without spending 30 hours of playtime.

    I had a Dual Blades/Electric Scrapper.

    I had no idea how to slot the powers. I had no clue on the utility of others. I had a lvl 50 that I didn’t earn, and it wasn’t as fun as I thought it would be. It was cool enough that I made one on live, but I don’t lament starting from lvl 1.

    Some people think crafting wasn’t added into this game until Inventions. True crafting has been around since day 1. Everyone has forged their characters in the fires of experience, finely tuned to fit the needs of the player. You may unlock your powers at certain levels, but you earn them as you use them.

    Uber veterans

    My first character was an Energy/Devices Blaster, and he was my first lvl 50. I still play him very regularly. I'm at the 60 month badge. I don't have Mid's info, but if you skip Time-Bomb and Power Push, you almost can't go wrong. It's the most survivable Blaster I've ever made by a wide margin.

    I have to recommend a Dual Blades/Electric Scrapper, though. Freaking unstoppable.

    By the way, I understand you probably want only "Uber Vets!" to avoid the power levelled crowd from steering you wrong, but there are plenty of sharp folks out there with only 2 vet badges.
    1. Try to find a partner/team from your SG just as interested as you are in badges. Competition is great, but cooperation gets you places you never imagined.
    2. Research your Defeat badges, and take missions and contacts accordingly. Getting Defeats through normal play beats the heck out of farming.
    3. Try to get your exploration and history badges together. If you're in Boomtown anyway, no need to go back later to click a plaque.
    4. Ignore Vet badges when comparing badge count. It'll only stress you out.

    Well, the reaction should be the same:

    "It's about bloody time!"

    Oh, and a little advice to male gamers wanting their women to play. In my experience, most women don't start out as "powergamers". Emphasize the fun, social, and story aspects instead of the min-maxing killfest, and her interest will likely grow. Emasculating you with her purpled out Warshade will come in due time.
  13. Welcome to the very exclusive Club of which I am also a member. We need to think of a name...a catchy acronym.

    She and I even got our first 50's together. Always a pleasure to mutually peak
  14. Great post. Love the complete lack of logic dreams have even though they seem to make perfect sense as you experience them

    I re-visited HL2 last weekend. I kept pressing "R" on the straightaways in the boat level. I also kept trying to rotate my camera around to see the badguys behind me. I actually had the urge to right-click on Alyx to see her Info.

    Even worse is with all 3 events I cracked myself up. A grown man, sitting alone, playing a dystopian FPS...laughing. Thanks Paragon, your game is so fun that it creeps up into other games, turning me insane.
  15. How about detailed instructions on how to find the next in line to wield Excalibur? Hero 1 didn't have the time to do two TF's that day, and boy did he pick the wrong one first.

    But seriously, please? It'd be awesome (but only if that person is not Statesman).

    Back in my heavy CounterStrike days, I could "feel" when badguys would be waiting for me around a blind corner. My friends called me crazy, my enemies called me a cheat.

    As it turns out, my brain picked up on some very subtle clues. My cruddy video card would drop a few Frames Per Second when confronted with the opposing forces, and my Pavlovian response was always "DANGER!". I can't tell you how long it took to figure that out, but it definitely took help from some open-minded people. Upgrading that machine gave me mixed emotions...no more sixth sense.

    You get the right information, move it in it's correct place, and even the strangest theories have some validity.
  17. If nothing else, the cape mission needs to be altered somewhat.

    I hope it is pictures!

    I'm easy, but that's my only wish for Kheldians (now that you can tankform while mezzed). I hate wasting my buildup, mire, or any time-based buff shape-shifting. Stresses me out!
  19. Many moons ago the OOC reason was to encourage Kheldians to group with other people rather than the "Elite Aliens".

    My apologies, as I don't have a direct source.

    I'll invent an IC reason: Their energies are too alike to have a passive effect on each other. Ooh, my brain is tingly with the cleverosity.
  20. Please, no more origin stories. I hate to sound like a meat-head, but I would like to see more action than set-up out of a superhero movie.

    I’d rather see a movie that more closely mirrors my experience as a relatively fresh hero, and I think audiences would like that, too. It’s a little hard to explain, but it would be like the movie The 13th Warrior. The main character isn’t actually the main hero, and that makes it pretty darn intriguing.

    Focus on a small, up-and-coming Super-Group during the Rikti War, and their struggle to make their mark, save the day, and still be people. I’m ready for a superhero movie to touch my heart, and get it racing at the same time. Some have accomplished this expertly, and boy did I love it.
  21. Marcus Cole got lucky. My Praetorian version is in fact evil, but just an insurance claims adjuster.

    Plenty of other heroes will be disappointed, too.

    "I'm here to defeat the evil version of myself!"
    "Oh, he's in jail."
    "Really?"
    "Yeah, 8 years ago. Poisoned a school cafeteria's food."
    "Oh geez. Man...glad you caught him."
    "Yeah."
    "Wanna get hammered?"
    "Sure."

    Being new to the forums, I had to look him up. I am relieved to be able to say: "Thank you."

    I'm not against people calling themselves a "Redeemer" if they're a hero-side Corruptor, but changing the actual in-game name seems unnecessary due to the archetype remaining unchanged.

    The inherents seem somewhat villainous, but let's look at the hero-side ones.
    • You do extra damage while someone is incapable of fighting back.
    • Your attacks appear so dastardly that your opponent's friends feel like they must join the fight.
    • You will repeatedly find and hit a person's weak spot any time there is an opening.
    • The more damage you do, the more you want to do...and being stunned doesn't stop you.
    • Also the Defender one. If I remember correctly, it's a random proc that changes the color of bad-guy's shoes. Defenders know it's evil.
    The speculation is fun, anyhow. My brother and I came up with a list that I like, but I posted the one above instead.
  23. Here's my crack at it. Obviously, the AT's need names that are the exact opposite of what they are:

    -Heroes-
    Tanker-> Banker
    Scrapper-> Conscientious Objector
    Blaster-> Useful
    Defender-> Prosecutor
    Controller-> Butler

    - Epic Archetypes -
    Peacebringer -> EEEVILbringer
    Warshade -> Peaceshade

    -Villains-
    Brute-> Bicycle
    Stalker -> Profiler
    Corruptor -> Soap
    Dominator -> Submisser
    Mastermind -> Amateurliver

    Epic Villains
    Soldier -> Civilian
    Widow-> Married Person

    Before people go crazy, my main character is a Blaster (my first 50 and still my favorite).
  24. I just need to cook up some RP reason my badge-hunter hero would go rogue. Nothing like doubling up on Accolades!

    Boy I hope they thought of that...sounds a tad game-breaking doesn't it?
