I'm just... sick of all the drama surrounding MA.

Then ignore or make fun of the people causing it. Problem solved. -

WHAT FORUMS NOTHING TO SEE HERE MOVE ALONG
Oh, and happy b-day, dawg. -
Since I've already done a slew of pieces like these for friends (someone as Superman from the last page of Kingdom Come number 1, the pose from Superman 1, a group fo characters to Dogs Playing Poker), I'm going to have to try and come up with something for this.

ARISE FROM YOUR GRAVE!
Not that I got a lot of feedback or anything, but here are some pages I threw together at work to act as a completely optional intro to my arc. Really, it was for the practice since I haven't done full-on pages in waaaay too long. Not my finest work and a lot will need cleaned up in the inking, but here goes:
Page 1
Page 2
Page 3
Page 4
Page 5
Page 6
I'll get inks and dialogue added as time permits. My Dad just had a hip replacement today, so this week might end up being busy as I have to go visit and help out in the evenings. -

Actually I was talking about my arc specifically.

Well, then I guess it's true for both of us. -

#83920: Two Chicks at Once
Moderately challenging, for level 40+. Has two EBs, but you have allies for them. Dialog written for villains.
[/ QUOTE ]
In payment for reviewing my arc, here's your review.
I really, really liked this one. I have some minor nitpicks that I think could make it even better, but I threw you the 5 stars gladly.
The writing is funny, the idea is clever, and it was certainly easily soloed. On my almost 48 Dark/Shield Brute, this would have been a cakewalk even without the allies, but that isn't the case for everyone.
Minor nitpicks:
Mission 1 text: I would remove one of the uses of "stand." The same word (well stand and standing) in one sentence is awkward. Maybe change it to "surrounding you" or something like that.
Mission 2: This mission could be shorter. Fighting Crey in a lab isn't exactly exciting. Yeah, you can just run to the end if you want to, but I would personally make it as small a map as is possible for the number of objectives you have. I didn't count off for this, but others might (and God knows I've done plenty of arcs where every mission is like this instead of just one).
Mission 3: It's "Fortunata" and I got to Mantis before Ice Mistral. Not a big deal for me, but you may want to play around with their placement a bit.
Last Mission: It's MS. Liberty. MISS Liberty is Statesman's daughter and is apparently no longer an active superhero. I only know this from fact-checking my own arc.
Now, I'm sure some people would knock you down a peg or two because people didn't talk in their 100% accurate "voice," but since this is a humorous arc I thought they were close enough to work.
I would have been tempted to add a glowie full of vaseline and another one full of tissues, but that's just me taking the joke probably a tad bit too far. -

Even if 90% of the content in the MA were crap, that would be over 2000 arcs that are NOT crap.
2000 arcs is probably more content than you can consume on one character (at half an hour per arc).
See the arc review threads in this very forum to find arcs and authors you may like. And if that doesn't work, make your own.
[/ QUOTE ]
The problem isnt just that about 98% is complete crap. Its that of the 2% or so that isnt just isnt crap 1.5% isn't much better and the interesting .5% keeps getting nerfed
[/ QUOTE ]
Name me some arcs that were story based, interesting, and have now been nerfed. Go ahead. I double dog dare you. -
[ QUOTE ]
Yeah, the only thing you really need to worry about is the EB at the end. He hits like a truck.
[/ QUOTE ]
Yeah, the rest of the arc could be soloed by a kitten. I've never had trouble with the end EB, but then again I'm a lover of lucks and just down them like pez before those kinds of battles. I soloed it with a Blaster who basically has Rise of the Phoenix in her attack chain and didn't die once, so I don't think the difficulty is too high as long as you know what you're doing and are forewarned (and I spell it out in the mission text, too). -
[ QUOTE ]
There is a reason why other MMORPGs didn't introduce content creation tools for players. It's because each and every one of those developers knew that there WILL be tons of players that will use the tool to create farms.
[/ QUOTE ]
Hmmm. No.
Say what you will about farms being good, bad, or in-between, it's been clearly stated from day one that they didn't want this used that way. Oh, and other games haven't come out with this because it wasn't feasible or they didn't want to, not because OH MY GOD, PEOPLE WILL FARM OH NOES!!!!!
This is a thread where someone is whining they can't find good MA arcs because of all the farms. Do you really expect people to be reasonable about farming in here?
First of all, I haven't even played all the arcs on my "to do" list and have never had a problem finding non-farm arcs, so whatever. Secondly, I don't care if you go farm all day long. I really, really don't. Please do, in fact, because I want purples to stop being so damn rare so I can afford some.
But don't expect them not to go after flagrant and frankly, uninspired farming maps. There are still people using the MA for farming, but they're not doing it in the easy and obvious ways. And I could care less, really.
But thinking other companies haven't done something similar because they were afraid of farmers is a bit ridiculous. -

Thanks for the kind words! And the book recommendation, because that sounds fantastic!
I'll try and get to one of yours tonight. -
[ QUOTE ]
If it's in dialogue, I just assume bad grammar is deliberate unless the author has presented the speaker as educated, and the grammatical lapse seems out of character. In that case, whether it's deliberate or not it's a problem.
[/ QUOTE ]
Oh, absolutely. If your contact is a professor of English at Princeton and he's droppin' lines from gangsta rap and myspace jargon, that's a problem.
Well, actually that could work, but it would take some finesse and would have to be for comedic effect, but you get my point. -
[ QUOTE ]
Hopefully they're all Thugs Masterminds.
[/ QUOTE ]
haha
Well, I guess you'll have to play it to find out.
I'm not saying my arc doesn't take it to an extreme that should be replicated. Far from it. I totally agree that the mission you're doing dictates how tough the ally should be.
Then again, to me the MA is there to experience things you can't find in the "official" content. Seeing almost two dozen superspeeders zipping around your mission is certainly something you can't just run across doing a Positron TF. It's terrible XP, but it's a hilarious sight that makes for a lot of fun.
So if you're going for an ally that's a bit of help (which is the case probably 75% or more of the time) then I wouldn't do anything above a boss. I tend to add allies for more of a "HOLY CURSE WORDS, DID YOU SEE THAT!?" factor, though. -
I don't rate someone down for bad grammar unless they're [censored] the english language, but I'll send a "Hey, you missed this" kind of thing in my feedback if I see something obvious. Usually these are things like misspelled words or common sayings they've misheard.
I think I've hammered all the grammatical errors out of my main arc, but I appreciate when people can let me know if I've missed anything. This is mostly because it drives me crazy in other people's arcs, so I can't stand the thought of having errors in my own that I've missed.
Now what cracks me up is when someone tells me about something minor like a sentence fragment in someone's dialogue. Apparently it never occured to them that I might have done that on purpose to create a pattern of speech. -
[ QUOTE ]
(like a mission I played that had 10 - that's TEN - red Elite Bosses "helping me out")
[/ QUOTE ]
If you haven't already tried mine, it has a mission with 21 Elite Bosses as allies, so I've got them beat (unless you did try mine and just didn't find them all). -
I'll throw the arc in my sig into the ring, but I would suggest waiting until probably the 30's to do it. The regular mobs aren't a big deal and while I've never had any problems with the EB in the last mission, plenty of people have. He's Radiation/Radiation and a standard enemy created by the devs, so there's no shenanigans there (I would just say who he is, but I hate to spoil the surprise). I just want to give fair warning so you can decide for yourself.
I wouldn't mind a review and I think this is an interesting project. I hope you continue to have good luck with it.
--edit--
Oh, and you might want to dump some of those tickets into a low level gold class recipe roll. You might get your -KB IO recipe out of it for "free." And if you don't, you'll probably get something you can sell for a pretty penny. -
[ QUOTE ]
I think it is a matter of preference.
Sometimes you don't WANT to make an ally who can absorb all the damage in the mission, and there is nothing wrong with that.
[/ QUOTE ]
I agree with these 100%. I also think the opposite can be true and it all comes down to the experience you're creating. -
I'm a bit biased, but the real answer is "as powerful as you want it to be." If the NPC is going to be "stealing" XP and tickets from the player, then you have to compensate them in some other way. If a mission is insanely fun but the XP is low, people aren't going to complain too much (I say this from personal experience - see arc in sig), so to me that's the equation you should be working on. Is this guy here adding enough fun to make up for any rewards that are missing?
If the answer is yes, then the balance is right. If he's not adding much to the mission but he's stealing all the XP, then your answer would be no.
Since you're getting consistent complaints that he isn't strong enough, then I'd say you bump him up to a boss and see what happens. You do have two other classes above that to work with if the complaints still continue. -

Search for the tag SFMA, "story focused MA".
[/ QUOTE ]
I wouldn't use this as your sole criteria though, since I can't be the only person holding out for dev-created search functions. I personally don't like the tags available and am having enough trouble fitting necessary info into the 300 character limit without adding 4 or 5 different tags on top of that. -
I like your review style thus far and you actually seem to be delivering (unlike one of the other threads like this I contributed to), so I'll try and run one of your arcs tonight. I don't expect payment until I deliver, of course.
The arc I'm pimping is the one in my sig, Speeding Through Time. There's a feedback thread here, but I'm not exactly rolling in the posts there.
Arc ID: 51728
Speeding Through Time
Heroic
Story-based, in-continuity (as closely as possible anyway)
Contains Elite Bosses and Allies
4 missions containing 5th Column, Custom Mobs, and Arachnos
Length: You could probably run this in half an hour to forty five minutes if you're not out to defeat everything
As far as difficulty goes, there's an EB at the end that hasn't been a challenge for me on any character I've played through this on, but I haven't soloed it on my Warshade yet (who is also 50, though he is far from purpled out), so I can't say for sure if he'd be a problem or not. Every other EB/AV in it is either optional or you'll have allies along to make it super-easy.
Your Brute will have no trouble and I've soloed it with my Fire/Electric Blaster along with a ton of other characters, but I have had people complain about the last EB being hard(which you're warned about), so take that into account when you decide who to play it as.
He isn't a custom or anything though, so I think he's a bit of a pushover, but opinions vary and all that. -
I've enjoyed some of the DC I've played, but most are horribly, horribly average. I haven't played all of them yet(mostly because I just can't bring myself to do it based on their bland descriptions), but I really hope some new, more deserving ones get in there.
And I can't wait for search functionality because I'm basically refusing to use those stupid tags, especially when I'm already fighting the 300 character limit. -
[ QUOTE ]
Glad they told people that an enemy that was behaving exactly as it always had was an exploit.
Its also good that there were clear and consistent guidelines on what xp/tickets could/should be expected from a mission or an enemy
[/ QUOTE ]
hahahahahahaha yeah right.
C'mon. If you thought you were "supposed" to be able to level that fast with basically no risk, you were delusional.
And has Positron banned you yet? Has he deleted any of your characters? De-leveled any? How about your friends? Any of them get hit yet? No? How about any person you've interacted with in the game? Not a single one? Oh, wow. Then maybe just maybe maybe maybe maybe maybe maybe maybe maybe you're all over reacting.
NAH! Couldn't be that at all. -
Anyone seriously posting using the words "fear" or "scared" to describe their feelings about the MA is pretty dumb. Unless you leveled from 1 to 50 in an hour 6 times over a day the entire time it was possible and then sold your account, I don't think you need to worry.
