  1. I agree with most of what you say (crushing impact, doctored wounds are easy %5% recharge each, and great sets).

Mostly, dont screw up granite trying to get some extra bonuses.

If $$$ isnt an issue, save the defense slot for 7.5% lotg.
But there are a host of other IO's that can be used, +to hit kismet is nice.

I took out my +run speed, it doesnt help with granite+rooted (it does for only granite, not for rooted, the debuff is too great). Tp self is your friend.

    EDIT:
FYI, to add to CMA idea of the 7.5% recharge bonus, know that the lotg 7.5% recharge and other IO set bonus 7.5% dont stack together. The rule of 5 applies to each (not total).
thus, you can have 4 lotg 7.5% recharge, and 2 7.5% set IO bonus, and you will have all 6 count.
  2. I love cheap effective examples, nice job Brakner.

I'm a huge fan of multistrikes myself
  3. [ QUOTE ]
Don't get fixated on just the set bonuses -- IOs offer more than that.

There are few set bonuses that add resistance. Defense is easier to find, but because a Fire Tanker starts without any defense to build on (thus making it difficult to soft-cap without giving up too much other stuff) you may want to settle for "some" defense instead of going whole-hog.

But one thing you should definitely look into is "frankenslotting" -- using a mix of multi-aspect IOs from different sets (Acc/dmg/rech from 3 sets, for example). You forgo the set bonuses (mostly) but you can really get a lot of enhancement value in your powers, equivalent to more than 6, 7, or even 8 SOs worth of conventional slotting.

This lets you do things you'd never have considered before, like get tons of end reduction in your attacks without having to lose accuracy, damage, or recharge.

    [/ QUOTE ]

quoting sailboat. especially for a new person, this is great advice. Its easy to choose bad sets and have IO set regret.

If your starting IO's, frankenslotting is an easy/effective way to start.

    INV/SS Build

    what CMA said

speaking of which, I think I teamed with this tanker (no TI at 26 ...)

you can also franken slot more.

What I usually do is baseline a build. Use mids and SO/IO every power I want. Then I look at the totals and figure, what do I want? recharge? recovery? regen? defense?

Then I play based off that. Should I steal some slots from air sup to 6 slot invincibity? (using KC, its usually a no).

I check what sets are available for what powers. Then I decide, franken slot or set bonus.

It will help you form your toon.
  5. actually I think aett has the best idea, swap 'tanking' scrappers, esp via tier 9's.

you know, when they fix the STF
  6. I know coldmed has at least 2 accounts. Goes back to the limit of 12 toons maximum per server.

have an sg mate, she does the exact same thing.

They upped it to 36 max, but she has them spread out.

I know your comment was directed to coldmed, but replied to me, so is the offer to get laid still good? Unlike cold, I dont have a gf at this time (living with my ex-gf, ugh. worse yet!), so if your offer is good, i'll be looking for cheap tickets. I assume I can stay at your place right? ;-)
Oh, I have a farmers tan, so I might burn in embarrassing places. :O

    p.s. I heart latinas

p.s.s yes coldmed can be an [censored]. but his original post/advice was very good, AND on topic!!!
  7. Gashes

    Which tanker??

    [ QUOTE ]
Fire / Ice works just fine. I would definitely take the fighting pool to get tough/weave, and also make an investment in a steadfast +3% defense IO. Especially since /Fire has no mitigation to help protect you (though killing fast is a form of protection but its not the same as scrapper killing...)

You can easily softcap the build to smash/lethal/energy/negative. And fire does neat damage for a tank. I'm not a fan of combustion due to animation time, but opinions vary.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I have to say "huh?" on your post. The OP stated ice/xxx.
    secondary was topic of discussion.

fire/xxx wasnt up for grabs. and can you show a softcapped fire/ice tank? I'm asking cause I have one, and I would love to have her softcapped
  8. when I first IO'd my stone/fire tank, I went for recharge and movement bonus.

seems I could compensate for the granite -run, but not rooted.

dont worry about set bonuses for granite armor itself. if you 3 slot it (e.g. aegis/lotg) make sure they are 50's or 49 at the latest. dont be the gimp granite with 56% resistance cause he filled it with red fortune *sigh*

Now, what are you looking for?
    1. defensive build - go tough/weave. weave with the 3% def IO will nearly softcap you on defense (sans psi). plus, I love tough for out of granite (yes, I do play out of granite, esp solo).

    2. offensive build - recharge and endurance recovery, though your still fighting the -70% recharge of granite. once your attacking at full speed, your endurance will go down.

    3. I use granite+rooted (for the regen), all my +run speed bonuses dont mean poop. imho, forget about them.

remember, you do have dual builds. you can make one for solo use, one for team use.

question is, how do you envision your granite?

are you tough enough, and want more recharge? Get hasten.

do you want to be tougher and solo easier? get fighting pool, softcap defense, and be tough sans granite.

do you want to be different and scary? get presence pool.

go with IO's to match that. presence pool loves recharge and +rec (its a bit heavy on endurance).

leadership is a good pool, but the benifts are very small compared to the endurance use on a tank. I'd drop that.
  9. another good post about the OP request ...

Though weave is questionable if your doing a solo farm (OP didnt mention). If he teams up with buddies or plans on doing TF's, etc.

But then I might recommend using the dual build, 1 more defensive (gasp) and the other more offensive based.
  10. [ QUOTE ]
a...scorch is crazy minor damage..get rid of it.

b..f.e. and b.u. are underslotted..fire is the highest damage output. these two together are crazy. make it happen

c...your slotting is all over the place.i cant tell what you were going for..

    d..stamina ...3 slot it.

e..dump rise of the phoenix..aint nothing but eye candy.

    f..super jump 3 slotted?..waste of 2 slots.

g..combat jump is WAY over slotted.

h...demons are fire based..your a "fire" tank....stop doing demons and do freakshow. they herd better, faster and rez for more spawns.

i...drop acro and get i.o kb protection.

    j...pick up tough and weave

    k...go hunt kill freaks

now about the farming and end recov..there are sooooo many recovery bonus's in i.o sets..if you plan on farming go with a set plan for your tank

i went with recov and recharge along with some acc.

almost everything has recov bonus's so look around..they will cost and if you get purples youll be all kinds of set.i did so well on mine that i was able to drop conserve power...then later on..i also dropped consume ..havent run outta end yet.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Lets ignore the post bbq flaming. I really do see this as great advice (for a farm build, esp solo, I'd drop weave).

so fitness, fighting, travel power ... add in hasten. Everything tastes better with hasten, esp on a farm build.

You have your 4 power pools. Coldmed is right about freaks.
demons are good for magical salvage, which isnt as rare as it used to be (tech has some expensive rares to match too). That being equal, go freaks. more influence, same drop rate.

farm builds should be about recover/endurance and recharge.
add in tough, with healing flames, you will be fine.

While coldmeds build is unrealistic for the OP, his advice isnt.

listen to uncle/auntie gashes (thanks to science pack for tran-gendering my heroes :P)

ROTP? only helps if your dead. you shouldnt die (take tough, and watch the magic esp with healing flames).

2-3 slotting a travel power? on a farm build? I have/do if I'm going for defense bonuses (love the zephrs).

as for a), i'm sure he means dump the slots elsewhere, not the power (though that would be impressive if you can)
  11. 13.38%, cause you should never forget the res/3% def IO!!!

I would never slot a travel power, unless it was with zephrs.
But if i do that, I'm taking weave, cause its more of a defense build.

not sure how many respec's used on the OP, but if you get 1-2 drops of LOTG (or cash it in for one), you want somewhere to put them, and they WILL help.
Not right now, but in time.
Have extra respec's? dont worry about weave for now.
  12. never thought you'd leave for a pvp game about flying :P

I'm glad though, it sounds like you and your H will be playing the same game. Sounds like good bonding, and remember, you are always loved here.
  13. what coldmed says and ...

I noticed most of your attacks are 15-30% over ED. Get rid of some lost ED damage and get endurance reduction in there.

plus, you already have 4 slots for armor/shields.

Try impervium (4 slotted) and ancients (4 slotted). You'll get teh same endurance reduction for the shields, and some very nice +end/+rec bonuses.

  14. Gashes

    Which tanker??

    [ QUOTE ]
    So i decided to make a ice/fire tanker...hopfully it'll work pretty well!

    [/ QUOTE ]

ever wonder if you'll melt yourself?
  15. pogo, I can tell you want as much endurance reduction/recovery, recharge, and to hit (better for fighting +4's), but how much are you willing to spend? the LOTG recharges are a bit hefty, so you can reuse them elsewhere, or put some extra slots in for more, depending on your financial situation.

btw, if your rich, I'm up for adoption
  16. shame on you, you forgot the res/3% def IO too!

considering he has rage (about +32% to hit) and kismet (6% to hit), at 38% to hit, he wont need accuracy as much.

If you want, remove the mako and put in an kinetic crash rech/end in ko blow (max out end red and recharge). I'd leave the end red in haymaker, since its recharging so fast now, some extra +rech wont help.

I do like your rage slotting better. you get an extra 12% to hit with it, and I wish I mentioned that in my review (or go 3 HO's, to hit/def/rech, membranes I think? but you cant do that until 50, and here, you get some extra recharge).

interesting idea to use unstoppable for end recovery IO's for extra HP. I prefer it for impervium, but that is a good idea (I didnt think of that before).

I do recommend your rage slotting though. good catch.

EDIT: my rage value of 32% is slotted, and it wasnt. So he'll be at 26% instead of 38% to hit.
  17. That is getting to be a sexxxxy tank!

    a few minor suggestions:
    1. your attacks are now heavily endurance reduced. You 'may' not need conserve power. I'd take 1 slot out of it. (11 seconds for conserve power, but I doubt you will miss it).

    2. weave - since your using 4 slots, put in 4 ancients in there (def, def/rech or def/+run, def/end, def/end/rech). You get nearly the same end reduction, defense, and some extra recovery/+end bonus.

    3. dropping one slot from rage looses 9 seconds of stacking rage (rage drop will be your biggest endurance drain), but your still stacking. You can use an extra slot here.

    4. unstoppable - I'd stick with 2 recharges, I dont use it that much, and due to the crash, you may not survive to use it again (and if a fight takes that long, to hit it twice, get help).

    5. as a thought, take the extra slots from rage and resist energies, and put them in unstoppable/RPD. Put in imperviums (you can reuse the REN +psi IO in unstoppable).
Go recharge IO on unstoppable. More recovery, more endurance.

    6. blasephmy! you didnt use the res/+3% def IO!!! put in a passive. For the extra defense, its cheap protection. You can still max out SL resistance by replacing one of the res IO's with this.

    7. you have 2 lotg +7.5% recharge. You have 2 extra slots, you can put them in weave/CJ and put 2 more lotg in there for an extra 15% recharge.

    8. footstomp. multistrikes are great/cheap IO's. Scirrocos, you dont get as much. Multistrike is much better for endurance.
Obliteration is better for more SL defense (worse on endurance), and eradication is better for more energy/dark defense (3 slots, 4th is nice +hp). In fact, with multistrike, you can 5 slot it, put in a recharge (I dont use the acc/end) and get great damage, great end red, very good recharge. Our just franken slot to taste. Except for the +10% regen, scirroco isnt a great set (I prefer a psi damage proc to scirroco. cheaper, less resisted).

    9. dull pain - you can remove the heal/end IO. you dont need end reduction in this power, and with your +hp (I assume you will have the accolades too), you will max out hp, so the extra hp from the heal/end IO is lost.

Over all (except for step #6), it looks very good.

You can play with a few slots, as you wish. You can squeak out some more endurance, more recharge, or more psi resistance.
  18. Enjoy the influence now, before I17: IRS cometh issue comes.

I think your in the 90% annual tax bracket now :P

Me, I'm going to a tax shelter in the rogue isles (yeah, thats the ticket)
  19. [ QUOTE ]
    2^31 = 2 147 483 648
31 bits used in the value and the one bit for a checksum in all likelihood.
(When dealing with rapidly changing important data you should ALWAYS checksum)

    [/ QUOTE ]

or its probably they just used 'unsigned long influence' or 'int influence' instead of using a known data size (e.g. uInt32)

The server tracks your influence (otherwise its too easy to hack), so the data packet sending your information on your toon (e.g. influence) will have a CRC. Incorrect CRC, resend.
It would be foolish to use a single bit for parity, when you can make a structure to have a seperate ECC bits for error recovery.

When your values are stored on disk, I'm sure it will be ecc bits (parity doesnt self correct, only a single bit is in error), for several fields (more efficient) is typical.

I think the problem isnt changing it to a 64bit (long long, which is, at a minimum, 64 bits) variable (as I believe coh is written in C), but all monetary transactions will need to be 64bit. Doable, but not sure how long in their code that will take.

standard sockets api dont natively (at least on my machines here at work) send 64bit, you have to convert to bytes, and make sure you keep the same endianess between server and client. but this can easily be done/fixed.
  20. [ QUOTE ]

Incidentally, one non-WP highlight of this week was the stone tanker that didn't enhance granite and was going down where my invuln scrapper had no problems. That cracked me up.

    [/ QUOTE ]

was this on guardian? Cause about a week ago on the STF, we had the eternally dying granite tank (56% resistance!). I lasted longer in lobster (warshade) form than he did.

I'm scared to think there are more of them out there!
  21. [ QUOTE ]

G_tanker you said you saw a lot of WP tankers face plant on the 54 boss farm. Why do you think they face planted and how can you build a tanker to avoid that? Does WP suck at Tanking?

    [/ QUOTE ]

To add to this, invul/ tanks (invincibility) and wp/ (RTTC) both have their major mitigation in their aura. This aura power goes up with more in melee range. Some invul/ and wp/ tanks love to jump around (a lot), which means their aura isnt saturating, making them more squishie.

You can test this easily by getting a mob watching your defense, then jump to the outside of it.

On difficult mobs, its easy to forget, as the lower mitigation is fine on lower level/easier mobs.

this 'may' have been their problem.
That or they didnt take their core powers :P
  22. Jthig32,
Dont forget you have dual builds now.
NO reason to not make a more offensive build and keep your defensive build. Simply switch between depending on team makeup.

Teaming with 2 ff bubblers - go offensive
Teaming with a kin and a bunch of blasters - go defensive.

I dropped consume on my defensive build, kept it on my offensive build.
  23. I am a fan of using passive powers for procs/+def.

Good place for the +3% def/res IO, psi res, or aegis resist.

If haymaker is going in, and you have an extra power, I'd consider this:
You mention ITF. definitely keep RPD, you want the def debuff resistance. energy wont help you as much there. I'd go an extra attack (range or hold app). hold make the difference with sappers. Though the dark khelds can make it insane.

Where I got hit hard by pure energy weapons were the rikti elite bosses .... ouch!
  24. [ QUOTE ]
Would you suggest adding Resist Energies as I am taking out Focused Accuracy?

    [/ QUOTE ]

what is your intent with your build?
Myself, I make 2 builds, an offensive build (more +rech, +end, +rec), where taunt is often optional or not used. My 2nd is max defense for heavy teams, and taunt is always in there (plus you get some great set bonuses from the taunt set).

If your going defense build (only play with a large team), I'd add resist energies.

If its a solo, small team build, I'd definitly add an extra attack.

if you want a middle of the road build, add haymaker (and earlier).
  25. [ QUOTE ]
Anyone with half a brain can see that his toon is a tricked out PvP build ( 6 slotted BU and Taunt? ) for more money than most people could ever afford ( thx WW PvP pirateering and PvP BB sploits ) This thread was for generic FireFire build that a normal person could use and afford. Brakner’s build might not be as uber as your WoW mentality toon , but at least the average player could afford it for under 50 mil. I actually had to go all Multi Strikes because I couldnt afford Obliterations and still tanked ITF. I guess I am not leet like you.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Looking at the original post, I saw NOTHING stating 'cheap' builds, or even a defensive build.

I 6 slot taunt and to hit, not into pvp, for the VERy nice +def bonuses in there. More +def than an attack offers. I use the SAME slotting

plus, people asked coldmed for his build. I did in another thread (ideas for my fire/ice), so it was nice he posted.

In fact the original post was 'how is my fire/fire build'. Not defensive, not offensive, not mixed.

Hate coldmed, love coldmed, the truth is, coldmed knows how to play his tanks.
