Honestly? I wouldn't do anything at all. I'm not saying that it is perfect. I'm not even saying that I like it at all. What I am saying is that just because I may or may not like some piece of content doesn't mean it needs to be changed. Others do like it, just as it is. So let them have it, and I will just go find some other content that I enjoy more.

What am I reading? You mean like right this second? Well, I am reading the forums for this really great MMO called CoH. Specifically, a thread about... huh? Oh... you mean what book(s) am I reading?
Well, at the moment, I am once again re-reading the entire Chronicles of Amber series. All 10 books in one volume. -
Personally, I think it's high time that someone try to put together a well-done MMO in the Cyberpunk genre, but not holding my breath on that.

Quote:Hopefully they get those fixed, but I wouldn't count on them not launching it within the next week or so. They have already cut off one source of generating new players. As of Tuesday, they will also completely cut off their income streams except for subscriptions and account services (rename, transfers, slots, etc). I can't see them doing that for more than one or two days.I so hope this wont come true, i just played a bit (like 30 minutes) on beta yesterday and found 2 major for me gamestopping bugs that i dont wanna see on live, and yeah ive /bugged em.
In details, my Options got reset 2 times to basics in that time only reason was i was zoning to another map.....
Same reason zoning into another map = all zone map options got unchecked.....
Greetings
So yeah, I am looking for Tuesday or Wednesday of next week. -

I have to say, CNN's coverage of this was amusing. The banner of the bottom of the screen read, "MASSIVE 5.8 EARTHQUAKE NEAR DC". I saw that and went, "Huh?" Near DC? It's closer to both Richmond and Charlottesville than it is to DC. They make it sound like it struck on the White House lawn or something.

I understand the frustration, but the Incarnate trials are intentionally designed to be far more challenging than anything we have seen previously. If you could avoid most of it by merely softcapping S/L or even M/R/A, then it wouldn't really be all that challenging, would it?
-
First gut reaction, no I wouldn't. Some of the powersets can already have different "skins" applied through power customization for free. Are you talking about adding more of the customization options as purchasable items?

One thing to keep in mind. Two of the mechanics you mention: the dialog NPCs inside of missions as well as fights where the opponent stops fighting and you talk to them are both relatively new mechanics to the game as a whole. Neither of these existed in CoH at all, even the content designed by the developers themselves, until Going Rogue came out.
It is possible that these are things that may be added to Mission Architect at some point. I am reminded of the loading screen tip "You can't do that in Mission Architect...yet". At the same time, the popularity of the Mission Architect System as an actual storytelling tool is much smaller than I imagine they hoped for. The vast majority of those who have used AE have used it mainly for creating missions which could be easily farmed for maximum reward.
I created a few storyarcs myself, but lost interest because very few people actually play through real "stories" in the AE. Sad, but true. Wonderful tool, and very well implemented by the developers, but (ab)used very poorly by the player base.
Given the lack of interest in the system for its intended purpose, I don't know if they will devote a lot of resources to introducing new mechanics to the system. Yes, they have continued to add maps as well as NPC groups as they add them to the game, but that is much different than taking the time to code in mechanics.
Still, I know that the OCR team has been making an effort to breath some life back into the "Devs Choice" program, so it's not outside the realm of possibility if they see a change to how the system is used, and see an increased interest in using it as it was originally intended. -
Oddly enough, my dog remained quite calm, before, during, and after the quake. To the point that I actually made it a point to check to make sure she is okay. The last one we had she got anxious shortly before it hit.

Quote:Normally, I would agree that what you see towards the end of a closed beta is what you will see on live. It's generally a bad idea to tweak things at the same time as the launch. For a classic example of this, do some research into launch day of the other, far inferior, superhero MMO out there.Pretty much what Dark One said. My point was that from what I've seen, the "it's beta, it can change" line has been bandied about a bit as some sort of counter-argument to those dissatisfied with the current set-up, and it may have been reasonable thing to say on day one of open beta to the influx of folks going WTF, but the further we go without any updates on the situation, the less relevant it becomes.
In this case though, I would certainly not be surprised if the prices aren't lowered slightly. The reason for this is that it is a market/pricing test. You ALWAYS test prices high, NEVER low. For one thing, if you are selling something, you don't care what the lowest price you can sell it for is, you care what the highest price is that you can sell it and generate the sales volume (in dollars) that you are aiming for.
But there is another reason. Let's say they listed something on the beta server at 100 points. They decide, either during testing or after launch, to change the price to 150 points. Can you imagine the outrage on the forums as people cry, "WHAT!?!?! THIS WAS ONLY 100 POINTS IN BETA! NOW YOU ARE SNEAKING IN AT THE LAST SECOND AND MARKING UP THE PRICE ON US! YOU CHEAP PANCAKE PANCAKE PANCAKES!"
Now reverse that. Let's say they list something for 150 points. When they launch they drop it to 100 points. The people who were upset at the 150 point price feel grateful. They feel like the developers have given them something. They don't even consider the fact that they never had to pay the higher price in the first place. It is a perceived discount or gift, and everyone is happy. -
When I hear people mention things like "balancing the market", I cringe. Personally, if I were going to do anything at all to the market, there is only one thing I would do. If an item is posted for an amount lower than what a vendor pays for it, the item just automatically sells, on the spot, for the vendor payout amount. This would eliminate stuff being bought for 10 inf that a vendor pays 1000 inf for.
How is that gonna lower prices? It won't. But then again, that's not what the change would be aiming to do. -
That actually makes 3 of us. Weird, eh? Maybe Anti-Matter (Posi) put something in the water akin to the stuff Cole uses on his citizens.
Maybe we should check further and see if there are enough of us in the Virginia vicinity to justify a meet. -
When they announced that they were going to stop issuing trial accounts on the 17th, I made the prediction that Freedom would be launching on the 31st. With the announcement that Boosters will be retired on the 30th, I feel even MORE strongly about this.
Yes, I know they typically announce an issue launch a week or two ahead of time, but, in this case, it would be counterproductive for them to do it. If you are a new customer, trying to decide whether or not to buy the game or a current customer trying to decide whether to renew your subscription, the knowledge that the game is going to be free in a week may push you to decide NOT to make the purchase.
Similarly, if you are looking at a particularly appealing costume part or power that is part of a booster pack, and that is all you want, it may push you to just wait until Freedom when you can buy just that one piece you want. Yes, I know it's cheaper to buy the booster pack, but that is only really true if you want everything in the pack, and not just one or two items.
Soooo.... I am once again predicting that Freedom will hit the live servers on the 30th or 31st. -
Quote:Geee.... thanks for showing me that. Incidentally, the last major hurricane I mentioned that had a lot of us without power for an extended period, was on that same exact path. Also, just like Irene, is was only predicted to be Category 1 when it hit the Virginia coast. Just hoping I don't have to go without power for 8 days again. Guess I better stock up on books.Well I don't know about all those other natural disasters but Virginia is already lined up to get a piece of a hurricane in just a few days. Safe safe everyone.

Quote:Here is a Redname quote for you to show you why people are saying the prices are not final....Granted, this is assuming the prices remain as-is in beta. But for all the folks claiming I shouldn't be worried as "it's just beta, they can change!" I'm not very reassured, since I don't think I've seen them altered once yet or any developer feedback on the matter, outside of several hints that they're fully aware they're raising the prices.
Quote:Hey all, as you're perusing all of the wonderful items that the Paragon Market has to offer, please keep in mind that all of the pricing, much like the rest of Issue 21, is in beta and is subject to change.
That said, we'd love to hear your feedback on the current prices!
Thanks!

I actually made it to this and can't thank Turgenev enough for taking the time to do it. It was very helpful and informative. To anyone out there who has struggled with Keyes, I highly recommend you try to attend one of these when he does another one. Well worth the time.

Actually, Virginia is pretty much a disaster zone. In the US, the West Coast gets earthquakes and wild fires, the south gets flooding, the midwest gets tornados, the south east gets hurricanes. In Central Virginia, we get all of the above, but usually on a smaller scale.
-
Quote:I am in Midlothian as well. The 3.1 you are referring to was actually back in 2003, just a few months after we had a major hurricane that knocked out power for many Virginians for 2 weeks or more.Earthquakes aren't unheard of here. I think it was last year we had a 3.1.
Here in Richmond (technically Midlothian, just to the south), it wasn't any worse than a passing train or a particularly low-flying plane.
To put things slightly into perspective, the way the Richter scale works, each full point is an increase in size of 10x the number before it, and the amount of energy in the quake is approximately 31x the number before it. So the magnitude of this quake was just over 100x the last one. The amount of energy in the quake was roughly 961x the amount of energy in the previous quake.
At 5.9, it is the strongest quake in the recorded history of the Central Virginia area. It is tied for the strongest recorded quake in the entire state. The last 5.9 was in the late 1800s.
So, while the extent of the damage is, thankfully, low by comparison to major earthquakes of note, it is indeed a moment in history. -
Quote:Cool list, although I might have been tempted to add Blade's sword and the katana sword from Highlander, but they are as much about the people wielding them as they are about the swordQuote:The Highlander katana should certainly be on there, and those that are 8-6 can pretty much just go away.
They also should DEFINITELY have included Greyswandiir. Can't have a list of swords without Greyswandiir. -
While I would love to see flying pets in the game, I don't expect to see any in the near future. If they wanted to introduce flying pets, they could have already done this. Adding wings to the Demons would have enabled them to fly. Also, simply having jets on the robots would have given them the power of flight. Heck, the Assault Bot DOES have jets in his feet, and he STILL can't fly. Does this tell you anything?
I expect one of the reasons for this is the difficulty in getting them to behave with the limited (non-existent?) pet AI in the game. Have you ever gone into a room with your pets and have them hop up to the balcony or walkway above you, without warning, pulling additional aggro you neither anticipated NOR wanted? Can you imagine how much worse this might get if the pets could actually FLY? No? Picture pets flying to any level of the dreaded "layer cake" cave room in some of the CoT cave maps. How about flying pets in that huge multi-layer Arachnos room that shows up in some of the mid-to-high level Arachnos maps? Do you really WANT your pets flying all of the place?
The problem is, people look at something like this and say, "just give them flight". That's easy for us, as players, to say when we can't see the underlying systems and can't really grasp how poorly that would really work. -
Quote:It actually can be done. During Double XP weekend, I saw someone go 1 to 50 in two days. This means, if they do the same thing when it is NOT Double XP, they could be there in four days. You can farm a character to 50 in 3 hours? And play them "normally" to 50 in 30?
I'd like to try that just once. Someone point me to these farms. And someone tell me how to get ANY character to 50 in less than a week of playing.
Personally, I did 24 to 50 this past double xp weekend in 2 days without running ANY farms at all. That was just straight running teams at +2 and +3. -
Quote:That's SORT of a misstatement. You get 400 Paragon Points on the first of each Month prior to the launch that you have an active subscription. If you activate now and, however unlikely, they launch Freedom before the first of the Month, you may not get any additional Paragon Points. No goodies. But if you make the account prior to I21, you get at minimum 400 Paragon Points for having an active account prior to launch.
This is a good deal for anyone who wants to play Free/Premium on a new account. It's essentially $5 of points for $2.
After the launch, you will get Paragon Points on your billing date for the entire duration of renewal. So if you are paying monthly, you would get 400 points on the day you get billed. If you are on the 3 month plan, you would get 1200 points on your billing date. If you are on the annual subscription, you would get a whopping 4800 points on your billing date all in one lump sum.
I haven't heard how they are handling interim points for existing long term subscriptions. For example, if you are on the annual plan, and just renewed in June. Not sure if they are giving you the balance of what you would get between now and June all at once or treating you like a monthly subscriber until your next billing date. -
Actually, if you had a paid account at any time, you will be a Premium member. Remember, a "Free" player is someone who never bought anything and never subscribed. A "Premium" player is anyone who has subscribed for at least one month or spent money in the Paragon store.
