  1. Sorry, but do i get more HP from slotting rare/very rare alpha ?

Nope, therefore in *my* mind i am getting a general buff, and not actually levelling up.
  2. Well i can confirm that the GTS250 card is compatible with CoX... and has been for at least the past year. I know this because it was the card i had for the past year or so fueling my "current" PC (its now sitting in my back up machine).

One thing that *seriously* annoyed me at one point with huge FPS drops (and also lag as well) was when i was running Microsoft Security Essentials. In the end it took some forum browsing, but managed to solve the issue and play nice and smooth with the GTS250 (solution: exclude the CoX folder from MSE scanning it)
  3. When you run the installer it *should* pull down all the current content without additional patches.

Or you can always just copy the installation across...
  4. And break the already strange interface? TBH i had no issues with it, then again if you arent used to scrolling/resizing stuff ingame (or do it on a regular basis) then i can see why it would happen...
  5. But strangely enough though, hasnt it been proven that with too many options available that humans generally go for "what they know" as a default and become "scared" of the alternatives (even if they are easier/more beneficial to them"?
    • Dinging 50 for the 1st time
    • Being part of Last Stand Radio and its various incarnations
    • Seeing Atlas Park crash out just via effects running
    • Dinging 50 on my 2nd 50 3 years after making him
    • 1st successful Hami raid. Would have grabbed him the night before in the "trial run" but not enough holders there to make it possible
    • Rubberbanding during the opening weeks of launch...
    • Brighton Comic Con 2005 and the amount of blagging that happened (Still havent gotten that Auto Assault Tshirt though)
    • Brawling my way up to level 32 and then suddenly going "I HAVE DAMAGE!" when i cast fire imps.
    • Seeing my 1st 50 ingame.

There are more but its soooo long ago these are just the 1st ones that sprung to mind.

*edit* Agreed on the Frostfire mission... remember running it soooo often that we could almost run it blindfolded.

For me, the rite of passage was when you dinged 50 you filled up your tray with wakies, and then went to visit Hamidon. Blew your wakies trying to get the Heart of the Hamidon badge. I enjoyed getting the badge for friends with TP friend and flight and dropping them from up high... good target practice in the end.

Maybe that was a Union thing that has died out now :s

    Ram Question

Opps, knew i forgot to mention that the RAM speed should be the same, cos otherwise it will by default drop down to the slowest speed slotted.

Also making sure that its all "paired/tripled" up correctly (for DDR3 RAM) as in with 4 slots you would want 2 pairs, or 2 triplets of same speed for proper DDR access

ie for DDR2 RAM and 4 slots,

2x1GB and 2x2GB for 6GB total is just fine,

but 3x2GB is bad as you wont be getting DDR benefits.
  8. Sewer teams? o.O

    What are they...?

Seriously, i have *never* been on one...
  9. Well might as well post this as i have thought about stuff...

Between the 2 cards (8800GT and GTS250) I can say that performance wise its more down to RAM, than actual core performance

(Also werent some 9800's rebadged 8800 chipsets?)
  10. Would like to point out that for some if not all GTS250's that they are actually rebadged 9800GT's IIRC as in that they share all the same graphics core (G92b), and as such will suffer the same problems as a "lower" but equivelent core.

    Ram Question

IIRC for *best* compatiblity you should get properly paired sticks of RAM, ie produced from the same manufacturer and ideally from the same batch as well... ie so that all the timings match up

Now saying that, you can basically just slot in "any" 2GB DDR RAM in, and the BIOS *should* auto adjust the timings to the slowest.

You can also "overclock" the timings via the BIOS, but with mixed speeds you might not see as much of an advantage.

Oh, and any perfomance hit that you would lose out on due to mismatched speeds'' you are more likely to make back via the increase in RAM.
  12. *blinks*

    wait..

    Damz complained about something o.o

Think i shall have to bust him down to noob level again!
  13. Yep, it is *currently*... but also notice that the post was edited just an hour ago by Avatea

Which is fair enough, I suppose, except for the part of time-gating, which actually punishes those who focus on just one character, as that character will be spinning his wheels until next week, vs. people who play multiple characters simultaneously, as those will be able to swap and get several times the progress.

I'm not saying whether that's good or bad, it just seems... Self-contradicting, as I understand it. How ARE we expected to play this?
If they *didnt* time gate it... i could guarantee that people would have had the very rare slotted within 6 hours of the game coming up (I did the STF in just under 2 hours yesterday, with a 30 minute break due to tank crashing out).

And then we would have been back to square one and people complaining about a lack of content.

Hell, even with a 20hour delay on it (still time gating) would have put a time limit of just over 3 days onto it...

Now, flip side, it *could* be made easier in I20 with alternative routes for both parts... so that they are compatible with getting the components via alternate means...IE get one via the WST and another via another means.

But I am know nothing about what is coming in I20, so its all pure hypothesis...
  15. Price Range for gfx card?

For Nvidia (not sure about ATI tbh, but i will explain the Nvidia side)

Any card from x800 upwards (the 8800, and 9800) will do, OR from the Nvidia 250 upwards (250, 450/460 and higher) range. the 250/450/460 (avoid the 465 though, its worse than the 460 for performance)...

Nvidia do their numbering as (family)(power) effectively.

ie Family 8, power 800 is better than Family 9, power 400 (ie the Nvidia 8800 is better than Nvidia 9400...)

AVOID any Nvidia cards that end in 400 or less, or 40 and less for the more recent cards.. they are more for general media playback than gaming

Oh, and as much RAM on the card as well.. if its just £20 or so difference, spend the extra for more RAM. It will make your life in the long run easier.
  16. Vsync is one that by default i keep turned off... Because unless You can guarentee that your system will pull 60fps no matter the problem, keep it turned off; otherwise you will find that the game will pull it down to 30fps/20fps as soon as it can, whereas you might get 55/45 fps otherwise.

Take the physics Quality down so it doesnt list the Aegia card. Although it no longer exists, it would still assume *some* level of a dedicated card for it (ie 2nd gfx card). And to be honest, how much more difference is there (never having turned it on, i would assume that it would be the number of knockables after something has been destroyed...

The rest i can understand, and a GTS 250 manages to pull it all off pretty well...

And remember, if you cant run it "full screened" try resizing in windowed mode to shrink it all down a bit.

*edit* Unless you are hitting in excess of 60fps consistently (with Vsync turned OFF) I will always expect some FPS drop when it gets busy.

Vsynch will be the important one here i would say... Windowed mode will "cap" at 60fps (or refresh rate of monitor) but with Vsynch turned off, windowed or full screen, you will be able to hit those inbetween FPS that will smooth out your experiance.

    *2nd edit*

Here is a link about Vsynch, and when it should and shouldnt be enabled... Linkage

in short... if you want stable and around 60fps, disable vsynch, otherwise you will pull down 60/30fps with Vsynch enabled... there is NO inbetween with Vsynch enabled.

The reason I say this is I've noticed there's almost no performance change when going from x4 FSAA to x0 most of the time.

As it stands right now, it doesn't look like I'll have a choice in what monitor to grab, and I'll probably end up with a 1920x1080, and I sure as hell hope the game won't start lagging drastically more than it does today. I'd hate to have to turn anything off, which will probably be shadows, which I have at probably the lowest setting available.

I don't run Ambient Occlusion at all, for one because it's a SERIOUS performance detriment, and for another because it actually overrides FSAA and gives me nasty jaggies. That, and it plays havoc on ambient lighting, turning some instances a deep orange, for example.

    Fingers crossed, I guess.
Well before I upgrade my GFX card i had a GTS250... running dual screen (1x 1920x1080, the other 1280x1024). CoX is on the HD monitor.

I am pretty much able to max out most of the settings. There is a lot that you can do to help tweak whilst still maintaining almost all the quality of what you had previously).

Oh, and I can run shadows at the middle setting with few issues.

The area's that people have picked up on, will cause issues no matter the resolution/pc set up that you have (well, not unless you are running triple SLI GT580's or something like that... and even then its still dubious).

Oh and i lag at big mothership raids... but that is due to how much is kicking off and not due to lack of grunt on the gfx card.

I *did* have sudden FPS drops at one point even when playing solo at one point, but that was resolved by excluding CoX from Microsoft Security Essentials.

[Ninja Run] gives 104% enhancable (through buffs only, not slotting) runspeed at level 4 (just over Sprint's bonus) which scales up to 140% at level 50. In addition, it gives a 465% to 695% jump height bonus, and a 111.65% to 136.95% jump height bonus. It costs 0.46 end/sec, which is less than 60% more than Sprint.

But hey, you were right about using both at once!
As standard now i tend to have my characters use both sprint and ninja run.. and then they *might* take hover as a long distance "AFK travel" power. Unless you want gold on one of the Ski Runs; combining both is pretty handy for general travel around the game...

*edit* And with inherant fitness now, slot those 2 up, and away you go!

Its very strange, but although a lot of people do say that they do this, they are actually more likely to stop playing for a while, do something else, and then come back and carry on....

Trust me, nothing more boring than mining roids for 16hours
  20. I would like Chris Vrenna and Tracy W Bush to do some music for CoX.... they did some *stunning* music for Tabula Rasa
  21. Words per minute on wikipedia

Look at that, and see that professional positions typically require a max of 70 words per minute and *might* top out at 90 words per minute...

Hell just setting the task to complete it once in 10 seconds is enough of a challenge...

Personally, I think it's still too easy. How about if, during the 30 second countdown, every 5 seconds there's a 95% chance that a random member of the team will sustain 3500 points of Challenge Damage which can neither be avoided nor resisted. That will make things much more interesting! While still allowing a dedicated soloist to complete the arc, this will encourage teaming, as the more people there are on the team, the lower your chances of being zapped! It's brilliant, if I do say so myself!
168 words per minute is pretty much unobtainable for about 99.999% of all users. I know that my mother who was a secretary topped out at 110 words per minute, with another at her work hitting 120 on occasion (more errors overall though). Typical average (over ALL users) is 40 IIRC with 60-80 words being considered "fast" in comparison
