Ooooh forgot about that one as well....

I had a similar problem with Microsoft Security Essentials, and ended up having to put CoX into its exclusion list.

It only kicked in when there was a lot of action around me, so if you log your chats, it will be the culprit.

The only reason why i asked, is that because "unofficial" drivers are unsigned, they don't always get picked up by programs (even though the program DOES support the hardware).

Have you tried uninstalling/reinstalling the drivers at all?
  5. If its the NVsvc that is hogging processor, then it looks like your driver install got screwed somewhere along the line.

    Uninstall them, REBOOT.

Let windows do its thing (ie resort to using generic drivers)

    Install new drivers.

    Reboot

    Profit (hopefully).

Apart from that, I am actually at bit of a loss as to what it could be, then again i dont do mission editing (looked at it, but that is it)... and even with the same card as you on my backup machine, i cannot see what would be causing the problem.

  7. Strangely/Stupidly enough, your graphics card is above the 8500 though.

You arent running "Non official" drivers though are you?
  8. It appears that *somehow* the CoX process isnt closing properly.

Also, after how long does this crop up? Or can you literally "log in, start editing, log out" inside a minute and reproduce it?

I *think* it was because at the time of game launch it was "the normal price" to pay, so just following the market at that point in time.

Is there actually a "minimum number of servers that you have to run before you can charge the "typical fee"?

(Side note: Up until end of 2008, the £/$ ratio was close to $2= £1 (more often around the $1.80/£1 ratio)

Argument has been brought up MANY times in the past... hell, not so long ago (ok granted maybe around the 2007 era) we were actually paying LESS than the Americans due to how currency conversion runs.

This has been in the works for some time, and they have until the end of summer = half a year to for a data migration, so we can probably strike "fast" as well. It's not that they're building a completely new service. And I'm not in a rush - they can wait until CoH2, as far as I'm concerned.

    That leaves "good".

    Right?
Well, personally I would actually like to have access to a test server outside of EU Open Beta times.

It has actually annoyed me enough, that I really don't log in.

Sounds petty, but even though I *KNOW* I am losing my global (which as i stated before, I have had as a nickname for over half my life), I am not loosing any sleep over it.

Personally, access to a test server 24/7 and then access to a beta server makes up for the *slight* inconvenience.

So whilst you have been complaining about everything, have you actually thought about what your alternative global could be?

Oh, and this change *should* also help with us getting access to "closed" beta's as well.

    Win/Win/Lose in my books.

You want equality, well it looks like Paragon Studios are *trying* to give us as many "pluses" as possible, for as many of the EU player base as possible.

Some of my friends who dont read the forums, but who I have told the change about, they were a bit "But i dont want to change my name, but I get all that? Oh its worth it".

They *USE* the test servers... they have been annoyed in that we (the EU players) have always been "behind" the US in terms of testing benefits (closed/open testing) that for them, the proposed changes (Even as they stand) are more than good enough for them.

And the fact that Microsoft has offices in LOTS of different European countries.

I am not saying that NCsoft are guilty or innocent of "discrimination"... it all depends on your point of view.

I don't think that they are guilty, purely on the basis that we are still being able to play the game, service hasn't been cut off for us, and that our characters/accounts are staying the same (essentially).

    THE ONLY CHANGES ARE IN

    1) An account name IF there was someone else who had a US account under the same name (note: the player isn't themselves able to change their login account name normally, so this cannot be viewed as "discrimination". Nor is the player able to "delete" accounts either).

    2) The Global Name... ok this one i can understand why people are getting "all uptight" about. I wasnt even the 1st person on the EU side to use my global. But it one that I am generally known as even out of game (and its been my nickname for about half my life). But i can also understand some technical problems that can arise from merging two databases

side note: If you have EVER undergone a server merge in other games, one side loses out, and its the one that is joining the "named" server. Again, this is to reduce the chance of technical problems (typically the screwing up of both databases). I would imagine the same would happen over here. If Defiant merged into Union, the Defiant characters would be the ones more likely to be renamed over the "Union" characters. Flip side: If the Defiant database was LARGER than the Union database, the reverse would happen, Union characters would be affected instead of the Defiant ones.

Shrugs, personally I think that some people could do with a "rename" anyway, if anything just to what people tend to call them.

    *dubs himself: CaffeineGangrel*

*edit* Now if Paragon Studios pull through and do a "global name wipe" of inactive trial accounts (at least), and long term Paid Accounts (1 year ish) then that would be marvellous. Not holding my breath, but at least its *something* towards resolving the whole problem.
  15. Grats on getting it sorted.

Actually sounds like its a case of "must complete download/patching before I will let you touch this file"...

    Bleah, that is annoying.

Next time it pops up, i will see if Unlocker will be able to nuke it for me

The BIT41.tmp file (hidden) in the Test folder didn't delete on finish. It was sitting in the folder wasting ~3.7GB. I deleted it, and it stayed gone.

I repeated this process on the Beta install. The BIT41.tmp once again didn't get removed and remained, bumping a program folder that should be a bit over 4GB to over 7GB.

When I try to delete it, I get the message that the "file is in use" by some program or process. It turns out (yay, process viewer) to be in use by one of the svchost processes.

I stopped the process and deleted it. It reappears on restart.

I've tried deleting it in safe mode, and in safe mode from the command prompt.

Having the Launcher run the consistency check doesn't make it let go.

Anyone have an idea to make it go away for good? It's not necessary to run, and neither of the others has this file in it. And, my Beta install from before didn't have it. It's wasting 3.7GB of space on my HD.

This process started because of space issues, so obviously I can't afford to waste this space.

(Yes, a new, bigger HD is on my agenda. That suggestion won't help right now.)

edit: Uninstalled Beta and CohBeta folder (with bit41.tmp only) remained, instead of going away. Attempting reinstall without copy/paste, to see if it will go away properly.
Just wondering, but whilst you were trying to do this *had* the NCsoft Launcher been running?

Did you try to delete the file *after* a reboot and not launching the NCsoft launcher (ie set it to NOT load at boot under settings)?

It sounds similar to a couple of problems that I have had in the past, where Windows (for some reason) even after killing the "main process" still keeps the file locked away.

I have used a couple of file unlockers in the past when stuff like this has happened and they have helped out to delete a file without necessarily rebooting the PC before hand.

*edit* Also delete coh.checksum as well... without that being present, a new checksum will be generated, and if all files are present and correct, no new patch is generated.

...but seriously, let's drop this legal thread. It's silly. It's not discrimination (but if it were, it would be governed by English law, 'kay), it's just either the cheap solution or the lazy solution that in either case happens to screw as many players as possible and all of them Euros. Even if the solution were to screw NA players, there would be less players screwed, since there are more EU players with NA accounts than NA players with EU accounts.
Explorer-less version of Windows? Surely what program gets used to manage files?

I think you mean "Internet Explorer". There is also a "Windows Media Player" free version of Windows.

But that is under the anti-monopoly rulings, and its offered as an *alternative* to the normal version. The normal version is *not* stopped from being sold in the EU.
  18. Sorry, but everything that you have made inside CoX is considered property of NCsoft as well.

They are also allowed to change, rename and delete said content whenever they want.
  19. Playing the market can also be viewed as PvP.

Not so much in CoX (probably due to the double blind bid system), but in other MMO's where you pay what you see...

There is *nothing* wrong with flipping items that were mistakenly put up for a cheap price, and then relisting it.

    PvP... Player Vs Player

I have *always* viewed PvP to be not just "combat" orientated (although granted that *IS* considered to be the norm) but also ANYTHING where you have 2 players with opposing idea's meet.

Most people dont take the market thing to "PvP" levels, but those who agressively use it to get people to buy things that they price that the *LISTER* puts it at (either through market manipulation/just owning one whole subset by himself) generally manage to make the most money.

That is still PvP if you want to "play the market" just that the combat field has changed... and that it isnt (necessarily) physical.

And I *honestly* dont think that the forced naming of global counts as discrimination.

If it is, then basing it on veterancy in the game is would also be discrimination as well (Discrimination of the old over the new in this case)

My counter sounds stupid doesnt it? But its just as valid as your complaint.

So my accounts, having acces to the same game, same servers, on anual payment have a difference of nearly 1,5 month payment (roughly 1,50 each month, times 12 is € 18,00) based on US to EU conversion.

And im not even mentioning the huge difference between perks and packs of the NCstore, the basic advice to any European would be 'Get a US account and go play EU, its cheaper'.

My question, will this be addressed at some point?
Errm... for those in the UK, its actually *cheaper* to pay in GBP than it is either in Euro's of US Dollars.

When i last check last night, $14.99 = £9.37 (ish), which is an increase in sub fee of 38p... not a lot, but *still* an increase in sub fee.

Ok, so for those whose *MAIN* currency is the Euro its cheaper, but that isnt always the case.

And just in case your currency goes down the crapper, I would assume you would be willing to pay *more* local currency than you were previously...

The fact that at least for those in the UK and Europe (well those whose currency is the Euro), our subscription fee is *currently* fixed and not changing, not matter *what* the currency conversion currently is.

Yes NCsoft can suddenly say "You are all paying in US$"... but I *KNOW* that people will complain when their subscription fee goes *above* what they were paying when the sub fee was fixed.
