  1. To put things simply

If you are upgrading system memory - that fits on the motherboard so fit whatever the motherboard requires. This has nothing to do with graphics memory.

If your graphics card supports memory upgrades (I'm not aware of any current generation cards that do) then the video memory fits on the graphics card - fit whatever the card requires. This has nothing to do with system memory.

The same goes for any other card which has memory - sound cards, memory expansion cards - (do they even still do those?) ram disks etc - the memory will fit on the card and will need to be that which the card requires. This has nothing to do with system memory.

There is absolutely no issue with using a graphics card which has DDR1/2/3/4/5/6 or whatever on a motherboard which takes DDR3 memory - or on one which takes any other type of memory for that matter.

Modern graphics cards except bottom end ones will almost certainly require a power connection. Most PSUs have dedicated connectors to plug into this - if your's doesn't it probably won't have the power to drive a modern system so should be replaced.

External PSUs are available but replacing the existing one - assuming you're not using an old Dell is simple - undo up to 4 screws, remove old psu, screw new PSU in place, swap connections from old PSU to new one - apply power - job done.
Its best to tie the cables back so they don't obstruct air flow but you can worry about that later.
  2. Stick together and don't rush it (and don't die )
  3. Of course if you have the TF, badging global channel for your server displayed it is likely to be pretty obvious but this really should be given more prominance in an official way.
  4. back in the days when people pvped in Sirens I often would escape via tp after being immobed
  5. This used to spawn a few ambushes so it may be that they are all arriving at about the same time.
  6. Possibly related but on one of the train mishes I had 8 instances for the mision to select from on the zoning menu last night.

several comments on that thread relating to Going Rogue so very likely related
  8. Sounds like a cooling problem - overall system, CPU or PSU - graphics card crashing would tend to give you either a black or a white screen but you would still be in the game and would hear sound - CPU and PSU would cause the system to shut down to prevent damage.

If your graphics card is much louder than normal that would imply it is working harder and generating more heat which has to go somewhere - if your system is borderline on running temperatures that could be sufficient to cause it to shutdown.

Check all your fans are turning and not clogged.
If you have a desk fan available try directing that at the system inlets and see if it helps.

If you reduce your graphics settings that may help also.

    You missed a few

    Cavern of Transcendance
    Sewer Trial
    Eden

What this really highlights is the huge discrepancy in the content available for the two sides - oh and whilst we're on that there being no TF content in Praetoria for lvl 1-20.

I certainly welcome this encompassing the lower level TFs but several of those that could do with players being encouraged to play have no equivalent redside. As it stands there are no shortage of teams running ITF, LGTF, STF, LRSF, Posi 1 & 2, Sister P, Citadel, Cap, Silver Mantis. To a lesser extent Moonfire, Eden, Katie, SSTF3 & 4 but how often do you see a call for a Cavern Trial or Sewer Trial - even SSTF1 gets more interest.

And for those that think this should be 50 only content - just need the contact say something like
"So you think you're all powerful now you have started on the path to becoming an Incarnate - Well let's see how you perform when you don't have that advantage. Go and see <Insert name of lower level TF/SF contact> . They have something to test you with."

Permission granted to use that text or something based on it for any contact NPC in game
  10. Bear in mind the efficiency rating is given at a certain percentage load - usually 50% - if you are running at 100% of rated load the efficiency will usually be significantly less.
  11. Had this a couple of years ago on an Intellimouse - eventually ditched the drivers supplied on the CD and reverted to Windows basic MS mouse drivers - and as if by magic my mousewheel started working.

Given the difference in size of the two monitors I wouldn't reccomend running CoH across both - would be better to set it full screen on the larger monitor - use the other for other tasks e.g. have a browser open, skype, teamspeak, vent, or anything else you want - even another copy of CoH if you have two accounts - they don't need to be the same resolution but it helps when changing screens - if they are flat screens you really want both at their native resolutions - the big one definitely.
  13. iirc most of the 9800 series had a couple of tweaks for one specific motherboard but were otherwise identical to the 8800 series. Not sure if the naming convention changed though.
  14. OK

Which nuke are you using there are a couple which don't crash end - Rain Of Arrows and I think Full Auto.

To gain end from Transferrence you need to be within the aura surrounding the foe it is targetted on, also you should't gain end if the foe dies before the power completes - (I'm not sure what happens if it goes passive e.g. Trapdoor and the Honoree in the Incarnate arc)

    Opengl struggle

Well if some files on your PC were corrupted then the update will have replaced then. You could have bad sectors on your disc and the old files used those but the new install doesn't.
Other updates may have been applied in the interim

So many possibilities but given most people get far higher framerates than you were even on lower spec PCs - I'd tend to agree that the problem was most likely on your PC
  16. Try to free up some space on your C drive and then defrag it - low levels of free space can cause considerable problems with Windows.

It may also be worthwhile trying running full screen as Aero can hit performance in windowed mode depending on your settings.
  17. You haven't hit the + or - button by mistake and accidently changed trays have you?
  18. That sounds like either the CPU Thermal Cutout shutting the system down or probably more likely the Power Good signal from the PSU signalling a fault and causing the system to shutdown.

Also what is the rating of the PSU - a 300W generic one isn't going to be good news.

Check your power connectors to the motherboard are properly seated and the right way round. Actually do this for all power and data cables - leave the case LEDS disconnected until everything is running.

Also turn your open case upside down and give it a bit of a shake - if you hear a metallic rattling you may have a screw loose and shorting something out.

If that doesn't fix things you need to eliminate as many sources of the problem as possible
Unplug everything except the motherboard and CPU fan and try again If it powers up and stays up power it down and plug in your graphics card and repeat, then try adding each drive one at a time, then anything else.

If it doesn't stay powered up with only motherboard and CPU connected the fault is in one of motherboard, CPU or PSU.

Actually reread the initial post - "Keeps trying to cycle" - disconnect the reset switch and try again.

    Startup Problems

You could definitely do with clearing some space on your hard drive - Windows performance will suffer when paging with below about 15% free.

    Alpha slot.....

Another possibilty - You hadn't started the arc redside had you - or even completed it?

    Very strange!

If the pointers for the textures don't read properly, or the textures themselves don't read properly, you can get things like this, where you have an 'unskinned' object that's pure white.
about the only thing missing from this is how to fix it

Try Verify Files on the updater - that should hopefully flag up one or more .pigg files that are corrupt and then update them.
  22. Alternatively just use the options in IE

    Tools-->Internet Options-->Security

Select Restricted Sites and add all the problem ones - Wildcards are enabled as well

Unless you get the bug we had on Union on Monday when Rommie rezzed an extra time on the final mish immediately after the TF complete came up so we got to prove to him we could beat him up even if he cheats - was back to the normal 3 defeats on the final mish on Defiant last night though.

    Map server chaos

How long are your load times when zoning?
If they are very long your client may be timing out - if that is the case you could try a disc defrag or even clearing some space if the disc is very full.
Have you tried on one of the lower population servers - the high population on Freedom may be causing more lost packets - a server maintenance may help in this case.

Quite a few characters did - unfortunately they eventually fixed it so all the extras have their icons greyed out so they cannot be selected any more.
