It has to be said - if you are running out of End you ARE sacrificing damage.

Also what is your slotting for both end recovery powers

If you are desperate you can always pick up Conserve Energy from your epic

Keep an eye on your combat stats - in particular your end recovery and the end usage of all your attack chain+toggles - if that is greater than your end recovery you risk running out of end and need to either increase your recovery (add another EndMod, set bonuses, accolades, external buffs) or reduce the end usage of your other powers. (EndRed, set bonuses or turn something off)

    Also Roderick
ED will affect the second SO - its almost negligible but it does exist - its just enought to go through the first threshold so gets reduced to about 98 or 99% effectiveness, the third one gets hit much more so - drops to about 93%, the 4th about 10% and after that you only get a couple of %

Oh and the Throw Stick temp works great at avoiding the Poodles
  2. Hyper,

I can probably hunt out my old Diamond Stealth 64 (actually I can probably find the one I upgraded to the Diamond from) if you really want to avoid Nvidia and AMD

    To the OP

Latest upgrade was from an 8800 gts to a 6950 2Gb which I flashed to 6970 spec after a couple of weeks. Your 6870 will be slightly slower but not by a huge amount.
Also running a Q6600 and went from 2Gb RAM to 6Gb at the same time as I upped the graphics and I can definitely say the improvement was staggering - higher graphics settings and significantly less lag and a big rise in frame rate

Not seen any problems with the drivers but I haven't tried updating them past 10.7

So I love my MM, but I do want to try out the other 2 VEATs. So I want to blast to level 20. So what would be the best AT/powerset for doing so red side?
    not quite

To unlock VEATS you must level a toon to 20 which started as a Villain in the Rogue Isles
To unlock Khelds you must level a toon to 20 which started as a Hero in Paragon City
To unlock a PEAT you probably need to level a toon to 20 which started as a Praetorian and then wait for PEATS to be introduced which will probably happen at some stage but isn't in I21 - expect it much later.
  5. I've been on a couple of low damage buff/debuff light teams in the early days of ITFs where we have done this - its very slow but definitely possible.
Usually easier is to split Rommy away from the Nictus - with two tanks this is straightforward but can be done with one if the team can immob Rommy - stand in the nictus with a Taunt Aura running and use Taunt on the immobbed Rommy.

Next option is for the tank to be the only toon in melee range - The healing Nictus will heal Rommy (and everything else) according to how many of the team including pets are in its aggro range (~80' I think) - If you aren't the tank and are in its range you will find an icon along with your buff/debuff icons - you will also find a faint dark (I think its probably purple) smokey aura on you. If this is the case move back until you are out of its range - melee toons sit back and twiddle your thumbs - or better keep an eye out for the ambushes.

These days its more usual for teams to just owerwhelm the healing Nictus's heals with buffs/debuffs in which case just pound on Rommy.

When Rommy rezzes everyone in line of sight will be hit with a high mag stun so as soon as he drops run around a corner somewhere and listen for the mez animation to finish. If you don't you WILL be mezzed even if you are a granite tanker running rooted and buffed with multiple ID, Clear Minds and Clarities so keep some break frees handy - its not as high as GWs mez but you still aren't going to avoid it with mez protection.

    Unbinding keys?

That will only unbind it - to restore the default he will need to bind the original command to that key.

Note you can restore the defaults to ALL keys from the options menu but not to individual ones.

    Your missing a few!

*MMs each with 6 pets from their primary, possibly 1 from their secondary, up to 3 vet pets and various temp pets (Shivans, HVAS, Warwolf etc) then have them all in RV with all the zone pets as well or in a mish which gives pets and you could easily have over 100 sets of pet bars. - Now expand that to a full league!
  8. Sounds like you are running at a very high resolution on a relatively small screen.
If you are running at 5800*4200 on a 14" monitor - no amount of tweaking is going to make it readable - OK an extreme example but ...

The brand has gone downhill since Dell bought it - or is it that it has stood still and someone built a mountain over the top of them.
  11. The procs give an identical effect at all levels so e.g. a lvl 20 Chance for Fire Damage will give exactly the same chance as a lvl 50 version at lvl 50 however the lvl 20 will work when exemped a lot lower than the lvl 50 IO will - at lv 30 the lvl 20 will still work and still give the same chance as at lvl 50 but the lvl 50 won't be working any longer.

The effectiveness of your IOs (and other enhancements) will also reduce as you exemp to partially counteract the possibility of having more slots in the power so if you are looking for an optimal build for playing whilst exemped this may have different slotting from one optimised for lvl 50. Note also at low levels the game is balanced around TOs or DOs so if you are slotted with SOs or IOs you will see a big difference and this will far outweigh the Enhancement Effectiveness reduction.
How much you will notice the lower bonuses of lower level IOs will depend on your build

You're applying a force parallel to a tow rope which is obvious and simple. Imagine standing behind a box and pushing straight ahead. Now imagine the box isn't perpendicular to the direction you're pushing, but set at an angle. Now try to push through that angled surface in the same direction as before without applying any other forces to the box. That's not trivial.
    Its exactly the same.
Just rotate your axes such that the x axis is parallel to the tow rope. That way you are directing the force along the x axis and it is directed through a surface - the ground which is at an angle to that axis.

    Pretty common actually

Father out in Winter pullying little kid on a sledge - (hey I know its the middle of Summer here but anyway)
He applies a force of 60N along the direction of a tow rope at 30 degrees from horizontal - this by basic Pythagoras can be envisaged as a vector diagram to identify the horizontal and vertical components - in this case its a simple 1:2:sqrt5 ratio triangle so 53N ish horizontal and 26N ish vertical components.

Or for a more game related example

Captain ShovedAround is crossing the road in Talos when he gets pushed by a stream of pedestrians - calculate the angle our superzero must set off in order to end up at the bus stop directly opposite

Probably not - they have likely looked at the size of the linux gaming market and decided the potential sales which would be generated would not outweigh the cost of developing and maintaining installers for the various Linux distros. Its a business decision they have made and no amount of your slagging them off is going to change that.
If you want any chance of changing that decision you need to present them with a reasoned argument - calling them idiots will definitely not help your case.
  16. Before doing anything else
You are running CoH from your D drive which has only got 4% free.
Clear some room on this drive or move your install to C.
Windows will have problems on a drive with less than about 15% free space.
  17. Also as I discovered over the weekend the security answers are case sensitive as well.

So not only do we need to figure out the answer we gave 7 years ago but also exactly what capitalisation we used
  18. APPs unlock automatically at lvl 41 unless you are an Epic AT - even redside. Patron PPs require you to be a villain to get the mission to unlock them so if you are still a Vigilante you cannot unlock them.

  20. I'd also suggest trying setting the video to always use the external card and see if that makes any difference - I believe there have been some cases where the MB switching between the external card and the 4850 doesn't go as smoothly as it should.

    How much!!!

I'd expect to pay between about £4 and £10 for a network card (about $6-$13) are you sure those aren't prices for wireless cards.

Actually Je Saist is sort of right with the first sentence depending on what is expected - a Software firewall is very good at blocking malicious scans but if you know how to work with the network stack then it may as well not be there, however the majority of attacks rely on a port scan identifying vulnerable systems. A decent one such as ZoneAlarm will also filter outgoing traffic such as that originating from trojans on your system which if nothing else should alert you to a problem. As far as Microsoft's Windows Firewall is concerned - don't bother - it only filters incoming traffic.

NAT which is implemented on most routers will give better protection against external attack but can still be compromised if the router is badly configured - the first two things I'd recommend are change the default password and disable admin access via the internet port.

Also bear in mind if you are on a wireless network then the firewall on your router will not prevent any attack which targets the wireless card in your PC directly.

If I were looking to protect a corporate network I'd be looking at a dedicated firewall box rather than relying on NAT and software firewalls though - you can go down that route if you want without it being overly expensive - there are Linux distros available which are set up to act purely as a firewall and can run on just about any junk PC you have lying around collecting dust for the past 10 or 20 years. Incidently you want to ensure your firewall is not running the same OS as the systems it is protecting if you want to maximise security. However I would generally consider this overkill for a home network.

Bear in mind any system connected to a publicly accessible network can be hacked into if the person undertaking the attack is sufficiently dedicated - note this means more than just internet connectivity - WiFi, Bluetooth, IR Ports, Modem are all possible attack vectors and indeed the majority of attacks are undertaken from INSIDE a corporate network - so pay attention to what other people are doing on your network - for a home network that is probably spouses, partners, kids or friends
  23. Currently use Kapersky on Windows and find no problems with it - small memory footprint and frequent signature updates. Costs me about £8 a year per copy + the cost of whatever hardware I'm upgrading to qualify for the OEM version so almost as cheap as MSE
Use AVG on my phone as well and its PC version has a good reputation as does Microsoft Security Essentials - can't fault the price of either.
I used to use Norton and never again will I let any of Symantec's junk anywhere near my PC - most viruses do less damage than their uninstaller did.

I don't have a Win7 machine to hand atm but iirc there is a Network settings option available from the Start menu

If they match the settings on the laptop which connects without problem then that would suffice.

Probably not the problem but some security site will suggest using the hosts file to block malware sites.
Conversely some malware will generate one to redirect you to sites it wants rather than the ones you do.
It could be that one was set up by your ISP or firewall and as Win7 looks in a different location to XP this is being missed - most won't though.

    Thanks for your help!
Motherbooard drivers normally handle On board Video, Sound, Networking and SATA drives support but may also cover Northbridge and Southbridge - this may also be why your soundcard installer cannot find your card.
Check the BIOS as well if you have a seperate soundcard to ensure the card is enabled and the onboard one is disabled.
  25. Have you confirmed your DNS entries are correcty pointing to your ISPs DNS primary and secondary servers.
Also did your XP installation use a hosts file - that is located in a different location in just about every version of windows - wtg Microsoft!

Also can you confirm you have loaded the 64 bit drivers for your motherboard, soundcard and network card.
