Quote:Maybe Stateside that's the case but in the UK its managed mainly by the BCS - a professional body by the same Royal Charters as are Doctors, Dentists etc. We have both professional ethics and professional standards set out in the charter. The IEE also do some as does the IAP. I can't remember the EU body off the top of my head which covers the rest of Europe. All work closely together.Trick question: you can't, because the profession isn't managed. We are unlicensed, we have no professional code of ethics, we have no professional code of conduct, we have not even a vague nebulous set of professional responsibilities. And that's why no matter how many mistakes we make or how large they are, no one else is required to learn from them or even hear about them except by chance.
University courses are based upon these standards although judjing from the comments I see from US based programmers here and on other forums it would appear there is little regulation regarding standards there. Indeed membership confers the letters MBCS which is indicative of the same level of knowledge as an Honours degree and requires that to be maintained.
You are right in that the profession isn't licensed (in most parts of the world at least) and membership of a professional body isn't mandatory however the rest of your statement is totally false.
Perhaps you need to do some research and find out which professional body DOES manage it in your part of the world. -
Quote:Dec 21 or 22 depending on the year is MIDwinter not the start of it.Only if you judge winter by guesstimation. Winter can be anywhere from NEVER (southern states/Caribbean/Central America) to "September through May" (more northern) to ALWAYS (far far north). To be accurate, the months of winter are the latter portion of December (winter starts on Dec 21) through the latter portion of March (spring starts on March 20).
When I was at school we were taught Winter approximates to Nov/ Dec/ Jan. The actual start and end dates vary according to climatological factors.
The mid-point between the Vernal Equinox and the Winter Solstice would be a good estimate i.e. ~21 Oct - which is close to when we put the clocks back - last Sunday in October.
As for the OPs question there has been no announcement as to the event dates yet but last years was 15 Dec - 03 Jan -
Sounds like you are running a 32 bit version of Windows - that can only address a total of 4Gb of memory space and your graphics card (and to a lesser extent other hardware) will take a bite out of that.
Are you leaving the launcher running in the background. That is known to have a memory leak so its best to set that to close once it has started the game. -
Not sure why you list the same contacts twice however Tony Cord is definitely still accessible - I picked up the Negotiator mish from him very recently
Those that were located in Galaxy and weren't used for deliveries are probably no longer available. Bear in mind also that missions in this level range are given from multiple contacts.
Any that are still required will have moved to a different zone.
Quote:There should be some KR arcs as wellExcept for Kheldians, plus Wincott and Flux, there were no story arcs in the 5-9 range. The only mission in that range that would be available via flashback (aside from Wincott and Flux) is the Negotiator badge mission, which was assigned by Kord, Dempsey, and Feldon. -
Would be worth checking the GIS forums as well - I'm a few years out of touch but iirc ArcInfo had major problems with NVidia GPUs
If that is now resolved then the NVidia GPUs tend to have better drivers for CoH although 11.9 is pretty good for AMD GPUs. -
Quote:Hmmm, ok I have never been one to argue math but I am lost where you guys are getting these numbers from. Can you help me out?
550*20%= 110 points off
@550 points of purchase: I pay 40 points you pay nothing
750*20%= 150 points off
@750 points of purchase: I pay 200 points, you pay 200 points
1000*20%= 200 points off
@1000 points of purchase: I pay 400 points, you pay 450 points
1150 points*20%= 230 points off
@1150 points of purchase: I pay 520, you pay 600 points
Let me know how I am looking at this wrong. . . With all the medicine I am from my shoulder surgery maybe I am just completely out of it?
Your mistake is basing the discount on 550 points - the discount would be on the purchased points not the already free ones
so 400points both cases free
550 points - your way (400+150*.8) 120 points extra - current way free
750 points - your way (400+350*.8) 280 points extra - current way 200 points
1000 points (400+600*.8) 480 450
etc -
Quote:Hi all, I'd seen something like this happen before a few times but logging had fixed it. The lower window section of my Chat window is shrunk to one line vertically, meaning I can't really see what I'm typing there, let alone if anyone is replying. I can drag the bottom boundary down with the mouse, and it just expands the top window section. Zoning, logging, restarting the game doesn't fix it for this particular character, nobody else has the problem. This character has had it for well over a week now. Running Windows XP, using a NVidia graphics card, if that matters.
I tried using /wdwsave on another character without this problem, then /wdwload on this character, no help. I tried closing the chat window and reopening it, no help.
Anyone have any ideas?
Drag the bottom boundary down to grow the entire box - as you say this doesn't change the size of the lower pane. Next drag the seperator bar back up - this should grow the lower pane at the expense of the upper one. -
Quote:It is possible to complete this still provided you have pets as their attacks don't suppress.the zone event "the Great Escape" is broken, once you defeat the 30 ghouls outside you follow them into the tunnels only to have all your powers suppressed.
Its bad enough that it seems to be a crap shoot to get the emote (ran solo many times, and didnt get it, was told by support that "I didnt participate enough") but now it is impossible to get it.
However they need to be able to survive as you cannot resummon in the mish and the EB can regen in the time it takes to exit, resummon and return. -
Quote:Incorrect. Just started a patron arc on one of my villains yesterday, when he hit 35.
There was, for a while, a bug where the patron missions you could take at level 35-39 were still spawning enemies at level 40, but they've since fixed this, as well.
Yep the +6-+8s I was seeing on my Dom made this interesting to say the least but the xp was nice -

Anything in your AV logs?
Some AV packages will act as a software firewall, others include one in the suite. -
Quote:This happened with the release of the current issue - the arc was reset for everyone whether they have changed alignment or not.On a few toons now, one who already have the Alpha slot unlocked and T4s slotted in it, I keep finding that the arc is showing up again in my contact last. I can call Ramiel again, and do the entire arc..despite having done it already.
Thinking it may have something to do with changing alignment. Note that these toons have not gone say..Villain > Hero. I was already away doing a full alignment change would let you do the arc again. These toons are just vigilantes/rogues, and yet can redo the arc. -
Sounds a bit like it could be mains hum - not sure why it would be more apparent during zoning though.
Check that your power leads are not routed alongside your speaker cables - or indeed any other cables carrying data (mouse, keyboard, network etc) -
If dropping to premium results in you having more items on the AH than your new max they will remain there until retrieved (either as inf or as the item). Hence the Current > Max.
If you increase your max but it is still less than your current you still cannot store any more. -
Are you sure you /petitioned it and not /bugged - they go to different departments and a bug report does not give a GM response.
How long a petition will take to get a response varies considerably depending on availability of resources and number of requests received.
Its normally within about an hour but I've seen that range from a couple of minutes up to next day and if you aren't online when they get back to you they will update the request on the support site.
If you tell us which mission it is or even what the in mish mission objectives are we may be able to tell if anyone has noticed a problem with it. -
Quote:Maybe in Britain, but in the US, no store is legally obligated to offer refunds, and a no refund sign, while considered good form, is not required at all.
In the UK refunds are only obligitary where the item is shown to be faulty or "not as described" under the Sale of Goods Act (don't know the date off hand) - many companies offer operate a replacement policy which exceeds that however and allow replacement or a credit note or sometimes a refund even where not obligated to do so.
The legal term for this is Caveat Emptor (or buyer beware) -
only if there are no other players in the vicinity

I presume those figures disregard the buffs granted by your Lore pets which may in some cases increase both their and your damage.

Quote:She's not as bad as some of them - where they aggro the room, the next room and then grab a loud hailer like a certain General or the ones that like playing with their new friend *Fusionette I'm looking at you*I hate the ones where you have to rescue them and escape with them alive, and they go and aggro the whole room. *coughLadyJanecough*
Then you get them to the door and what do they do - run straight back into that Burning building or whatever else it was you rescued them from! -
Quote:Now that you've admitted to it - watch out for some of Ms Liberty's goons dropping by.I agree. The first toon I ran through Praetoria was a Loyalist but joined the Resistance on the last mission so I was, technically, against Cole but this new toon I'm running through has a backstory of being an "undercover agent for Cole." But it sucks I can't stay true to him, even in Paragon... Come to think of it, my backstory does say I'm infiltrating the Freedom Phalanx to learn Statesman's secrets for Cole so, in a sense, it kinda works... >.>...

Quote:I tend to take the Axe over Sands as at least when you miss with it you aren't left rooted in place for ever. It also seems to have a *lot* better to-hit than Sands.I've found that the Nemesis staff seems to miss more often than Sands, but that may be because Sands is AOE.
Anyway, they're all better once you get some +Acc set bonuses.
Until we can take all four I can't see me taking either rather than the second of Nemesis Staff or Black Wand though. -
I've noticed this happening where the existing game password doesn't meet the new password length or complexity requirements.

Quote:sound like this could potentially be a UAC issue (assuming you are running Win7 or Vista)The language has been set to German. I've reset this option a number of times with changing EU and North America, and every time the NC launcher starts up again, it's still English and the game still launches in English.
I assume the game was installed with admin rights either before upgrading to Win7 or Vista or after having allowed the installer to elevate privileges.
These priileges allow write access to the Program Files folder and other protected locations.
If you don't allow privilege elevation when running the game then it won't be able to write to that folder and Windows behaviour is to save the changes to a local copy leaving the original unchanged. If the game picks up the value from the original locations you will see the old values.
