Quote:Most broadband connections use dynamic IPs - its just that they have a longer lease period and generally renew before they expire. This happened to me too, and when I logged back in it asked my security question and had me verify a new IP address, which makes me suspicious. I hope that by verifying the new address I have not put my account in jeopardy. I don't understand why my IP address would have changed...
Because of this there is no guarantee that your IP address will remain the same from one day to the next. If you haven't had that PC online for a few days that would increase the chance of it changing. If your ISP has made changes to its network infrastructure there would be a good chance of it changing also.
If you are on Dial Up/ISDN still it is almost certain it will change. -
Note also that whilst the Paragon map has remained fairly consistant - new zones have been added and the tramline changes have been applied, the Rogue Isles have had some major upheavals over the years - about half of the islands have actually rotated by ~90 degrees. I blame Doc Aeon's playing about beneath Cap Au Diable.
Also neither map shows the Shadow Shards, Pocket D, Oruborous or Cimerora.
Vidiotmaps does have a large city map that you could print out which has all the zones. If you download and save it with the correct name in the AddOns folder it could replace the City Map on the mini map tab - I think it also changes those at the tram station but not totally sure of that.
Also the current versions should be available on the CoH website somewhere. -
Sounds like its failed retrieving your screen resolution.
If you exit and the restart the launcher is the problem repeatable?
If so is it repeatable after a reboot?
If you still get the problem after that try changing your resolution in Windows and then putting them back. -
The 8800 is a decent card and capable of ultra mode although certainly not maxed out. I ran for some time with a 8800 GTS which is the model below yours although you don't say whether its the 512Mb or the 640Mb version - the 512 is the later model and superior card despite having less memory.
They use a PCIe interface (white slot - although later MB tend to vary the colour - with a clip on the end) although I believe there were some AGP (brown slot) models also, I would think a PCI version (white slot no clip) is unlikely.
The 8800 and 9800 series were almost identical (unless you owned one particular Dell) and the 9800GTX was die shrunk and rereleased as iirc the 265
I takes a dual slot cooler so you need to ensure you have a free slot next to your graphics card.
You almost certainly will need to upgrade your PSU though. a 230W one isn't going to last especially if its a cheap make. OTOH the blue flash you get when they blow can be quite impressive.
You might get away with a 400W but personally I wouldn't put anything below 600W into a PC these days which leaves some leeway for future upgrades.
That 105W is the power drawn by the card on its own the PSU also meeds to power the Motherboard, CPU, Memory, fans and drives + anything drawing power off of USB - those will add probably about another 150W to that figure. Then you need to factor in that you should only be running your PSU at up to ~50% load as its efficiency drops off rapidly after that. Higher temps also hit efficiency and high loads increase temps.
You should also consider that GPUs in particular will require that much power off of one power rail, whereas the rating of the PSU is spread over all of them. -
Quote:Or Cavern of Transcendence trial in the Hollows - its not run anywhere as often but is very quick, however it does need a full team to complete it and does require unlocking by the team leader to start - its unlocked by completing the last of the Hollows arcs.At 16 you're of level to do Positron's TF as was mentioned; you're also level to run Synapse in Skyway City. I'd suggest joining one of those TF's...
About lvl 20 try the Striga arcs and make sure you do the Ernesto Hess TF at the end of them - the final mish can be well worth it for someone new to it - the mishes leading up to it could do with a revamp though.
The other TF in that zone is Moonfire which you will get plenty of opportunity to do as it is one on the WTF rota.
Also try and take a look at DA before they turn it in to an Incarnate zone (assuming that isn't what today's publish is) If you want a challenge street sweeping there at lvl 21 (the zone level) definitely counts.
If you have access to the First Ward - thats all new content so will tend to be better written. -
Quote:Already possible! My Dom got the badge and has never done any blueside mishes other than TFs.All of the Praetorians from the various incarnate trials are supposed to count. I understand that the MoM trial is (was?) bugged and wasn't giving credit, but if that hasn't been fixed, it is in the current Test and/or Beta build.
I imagine that once the Praetorian storyline fully unfolds, we'll be able to get Dimensional Warder without ever doing a single mission from Maria or Tina.
Infernal came from the redside mish in the lvl 20ish range - not certain where the others came from though. -
If you follow the instructions on Hyperstrike's thread below we can get a much better idea of the problem.
Post the details back in this thread.

CoH uses OpenGL - no need to set anything. -
Could this be related to PowerBoard, FlyingCarpet etc disabling ALL other powers so that when the bind is checked the toggleon part cannot execute and so is ignored.
The bind would need to be parsed after each part is executed but I suspect it is only being parsed when the bind is initially executed - probably to reduce load but surely this is parsed client side and then the individual commands passed to the server in turn. -
Odd - tried this on mine
News page - 1% dropping to 0% within couple of seconds
Store page - 1% dropping to 0% within couple of seconds
CoH page - 2% dropping to 0% within couple of seconds
Lineage II page - 3% dropping to 0% within couple of seconds
Guild War page - 1% dropping to 0% within couple of seconds
CoH Beta - 2% dropping to 0% within couple of seconds
Aion - 3% dropping to 0% within couple of seconds
Which is pretty much what I would expect to see however every click increases the memory footprint - but then we all know about the memory leak.
My guess this is related to the web page being served rather than the launcher itself. - Either that or the OP has a trickle D/L kicking off. -
Quote:Also, for those who are interested, the following wiki link tells how to turn a screenshot into a jpeg suitable for uploading to your favorite image hosting site.
http://wiki.cohtitan.com/wiki/Screenshots
Note that you only need to worry about that if you are wanting to screenshot something like the Contume creator or Login screen as the screenshots saved in game are by default JPEGs -
Quote:Firstly, this game Will melt a netbook...
Secondly, are you hard core on a 'new' rig? There are alot of people/places out there looking to rid themselves of older toys for cheap. I got my backup laptop for a nice fraction and it runs ultra with decent settings.
I do have CoX installed on my NetTop that I use as a media PC - That is using an ION 300 series processor and surprisingly the graphics built into that are actually capable of UM settings albeit at poor framerates ~15fps although those weren't particularly low settings. It will time out on zoning and need to relog to complete.
Its certainly playable in a pinch but I'd definitely recommend a higher end processor.
I'd expect an Intel netbook to have a better processor but the built in grahics will probably be a lot worse than the ION. -
I know HDD prices are stupid atm but I'm far from convinced about the value of replacing the second 500Gb 7200 rpm drive in the second option with a 750Gb 5400 rpm one in the first is worth an extra $450 especially as it is a slower drive.
Personally I'd drop the second disk - or better replace the first with a SSD.
If you want 1Tb of storage use a 1Tb drive unless you are planning on setting up a RAID array.
GPU should be good and while the I5s will be slightly slower either processor should allow you to max out settings - I'd be more concerned over how well they disipate waste heat though which could cause the processor to clock down so looking for some reviews would be a good idea. -
Quote:They used to really make fights interesting because of their auto-hit slow effects. Way back before the global defense nerf, when you still had the ability to taunt unlimited amounts of stuff, my wife (who played a blaster) directed me to "gather" a very large room's worth of them. Like any good husband, I did as she asked, neither of us thinking about the effect those summoned swarms would have.
By the time I was done, I had so many swarms on my tank that my recharge was utterly floored, and taunt was taking something like a minute to come back (not to mention my other attacks too) -- made for a very interesting fight because I was having a lot of trouble holding aggro since I could barely *do* anything.
It was more the odd 30 minute hunt for that one swarm hiding in the rafters and preventing the defeat all mish from completing that I remember. -

Quote:Shouldn't, but a vigilante (or hero) will not have a progress bar for it.
Sharkhead Isle: 762, 32, -373
St. Martial: 456, 33, 1230
Warburg: -1038, 100, -816
Grandville: 2764, -340, 794
Grandville: 1724, -459, 1514
iirc that progress bar was removed for heroes prior to GR as the WB plaque was causing it to appear despite the other plaques being impossible to get at the time. It may be that it wasn't re-enabled since and so it may be enabled by going full villain. I'd suggest picking up the WB plaque first and checking if the badge is awarded.
The OP should probably /bug it not being visible however. -
Quote:Don't you mean (3+4)*3 vs (2+9)*2 i.e. 21 vs 22 - that 3rd LBW2 doesn't allow an extra glad redside.You want 3 LBW2 and 5 other gladiators. That gives you 3 healers hitting 8 targets: 3 x 8 = 24. Your example gives 2 x 11 = 22 - approximately 8% less effective.
Nevertheless plenty of others have found using two in practice results in more healing mainly becouse of suboptimum positioning of targets and also note that 8% theoretical value drops even more with larger teams until it hits target cap also bear in mind that there are other glads which heal although nowhere near as effectively.
Basically the positioning of the LBW2s and the target glads makes a far greater difference than whether you use 2 or 3. -
Quote:EDIT: Also did you buy the NA or EU edition of the GR box and is your account in the same zone? Technically since the two versions have merged there should not be a problem, but if you installed an older version it may have conflicts that wouldn't be there with the new version.
If it was a boxed version then it would be the NA edition as the EU one is electronic only.
Also any codes which can be applied must be for the same region and region will also determine the billing currency and fee. The two versions didn't quite merge - just the servers they had access to. -
Quote:I've only done it redside but that was 2 LBW2s +9 iirc (might have been 8 other) - i.e. 11 totalThere is nothing debatable about it. You want 3 LBW2. The reason is simple: the Wardens heals count on each target INCLUDING THEMSELVES.
So, if you have 3 LBW2 and 4 other gladiators (the most a hero can have), you have 3 healers hitting 7 targets. 3 * 7 = 21.
If you have 2 LBW2, you can have.... I think 7 other gladiators. This gives you 2 healers hitting 9 targets. 2 * 9 = 18. The first options gives you 17% faster healing progress.
The numbers are even better for 3 vs 2 if you have additional players on your team with additional gladiators for them to heal.
Back in the day when you needed a billion points of healing for the final badge, I would run massive heal farms. We would often have a full team on one side so there would be 60-70 healing targets. (Some players would log in a second account with a pack of cheap gladiators just to provide extra healing targets.)
With a larger team you want as many targets as possible however positioning is important so as to ensure they are all in the AOEs from the LBW2s - the 7vs 1 setup would favour 3 lbw2s for the big team however as they will hit target cap but on 4v4 it can favour 2 rather than 3 due to the higher number of targets -
Quote:I'd like to add that you apparently gain healing badge credit for the healing dealt to Anti-Matter in the Keyes Reactor trial when you are killed by the disintegration beam. I found this out the hard way, although it's not something I would recommend trying to farm.
Do Rommy and GW give credit this way as well?
Also it is debatable whether to use 2 or 3 LBW2 for the Arena farm - 2 allows for more targets, 3 gives more healers. -
Quote:Almost anyEBs definitely count for Dimensional Warder. Also worth noting is that the trial AVs count.
I want to say that EBs count for every badge/accolade, because I can't think of any counterexamples... in fact, I can't think of any badges at all other than Dimensional Warder which require fighting enemies which can spawn as both an EB and an AV.
Babbage as a GM grants the badge
Babbage as an EB or even an AV will not (spawns as such inside mish)
but all EBs count if the AV does - if it needs a GM then it won't. -

Quote:If you purchased, or otherwise earned enough slots to have 36 on a single server as a VIP, that means you have ADDED 24 slots.
I think he is saying he purchased 28 extra slots when he only had 8 taking him to 36
Then when access to the other side was given all servers should have received an extra 4 slots but as the server he was playing on was already at max he never received those extra 4 on that server
On that basis he probably has a good argument that those extra 4 should have been granted back as global slots at that time - they were purchased slots but technical limitations prevented there allocation.
As such he should have the 2 base slots + 28 purchased not 24 + any vet/box bonus slots applicable -

Quote:Reminds me of a test of a Panasonic toughbook - laptop certified to handle 1m drop test onto concrete. They're very reliable. They're also much more durable than hard drives. One of the SSD manufacturers did a video of what it takes to destroy one. That had a guy 'pitch' it to someone else who hit it with a bat and it still worked fine. To actually make it fail, they needed to step up to a golf club. A full strength swing shattered the casing.
They dropped it out of a second floor window (third floor for the US readers) - a few cosmetic scratches to the finish
Ran over it with a motorcycle - this threw it 50 yards across the carpark - same result.
Volvo estate - more scratches and it disloddged the battery - reconnected and booted back up without problem.
Transit Van - cracked screen - connected external screen - still working
Main Battle Tank! - that did the trick
And that was with a standard hard drive gel mounted.
But yes SSD is more rugged and the current ones have been shown to have a very similar MBTF - faults tend to be the memory degrading rather than mechanical which is the main cause of failure with hard drives although as the above indicates appropriate mounting techniques can address that. Note however the toughbook was about twice the cost of a standard equivalent laptop.
I still wouldn't choose one for backups - for that you want reliable and cheap - speed is less of an issue. An SSD otoh gives Fast and reliable but expensive. -
