Quote:Hmm, at first I thought he was serious, but after reading it again, I am not so sure. I have to say, the whole car paint idea would be hilarious for a show like the old "Candid Camera".I'm not buying any more of your damned costume packs until you get rid of the de-evolution thing on Secondary Mutation from the Mutant Pack. I don't like paying someone to play jokes on me. It wastes my time and my friends' time if I'm on a team. It's not funny to me, and it's not cute. I could just not use the power, but I PAID for it. I thought the devs had more respect for their customers than that. No company stays in business if they slip little "jokes" into their customer's products. How would you like it if you bought a car that the paint washed off of the first time you washed it just because the manufacturer thought it would be funny?
Boycotting the Origins Pack. -
Quote:Ahh . . . OK . . . just one thing, there were many times more men killed in the Spanish Inquisition for being witches than there were EVER female "witches" killed. I almost understand the outrage, but really, put things in perspective, this is a game and that was a long time ago. Considering what you have to do to get the badge, I think the name is very appropriate. It's from the title of a book called "Malleus Maleficarum", which means "The Hammer of the Witches" - it was written in the middle ages, and is one of the most evil books ever - it's all about how to identify, put on tiral, and murder "witches", and it was the standard reference book for the authorities in the centuries of the witch killings, which resulted in the deaths of countless thousands of women.
It's a "how to" guide for mysogyny and gendercide, and is not something you should reference in a badge title for beating up witches.
It might be a little more appropriate to demand that "Warlocks" be added to the game in order to make things more accurate instead of demanding a badge name be changed. -
Quote:Uh . . . What? Where is the word "Malleus" a reference to the mass murder of women? I am assuming you are speaking of an event since the half a dozen dictionaries I checked only talk about the definition of "Malleus" as one of the three bones of the inner ear in mammals. Even the Latin origin only refers to a hammer. They've already changed one badge after a similar bad taste problem - the original "Untouchable" badge for defeating 100 Family bosses used to have an Italian flag on it instead of the bullet holes on a brick wall that it has now - and this changing the name of the "Malleus" badge would be even easier, as the artwork can stay the same - it just needs the name changed.
And if they really want to keep that name for a badge, then as it's a Latin word they could make it the name of a badge in Cimerora, for defeating something like Minotaurs or Cyclopses, for example - or just add it for to any new badges in upcoming Issues - anything, really, just as long as they get rid of any link with it to witches and the mass-murder of women. -
I always thought that Rikti was both the singular and the plural forms as some words have. As in a Rikti or the Rikti.

Quote:I have to agree here. Personally I love this power. Even when I get "Monkeyfied". Actually, especialy then. It's hilarious and since it only lasts a minute then I can hit it again, why not hit it all the time. This is a sarcasm post right?
If not...
You're griping about a power that will grant you:
Reduced Recharge (30%) or
+Movement Speed (15%) or
Endurance Discount (30%) AND +Regeneration (30%) AND Resist(Stun, Sleep, Immobilize, Hold, Terrorize) (50%) or
+Def(Smashing, Lethal, Fire, Cold, Energy, Negative Energy, Psionic) (5%) or
+Accuracy (3.3%) AND +Perception (60%) AND +Def(Melee, Ranged, AoE) (3%)
ALL of which last for 20 minutes.
or
You turn into a Rikti money...
...for one whole flippin' minute!
Now, if Devolution lasted for 20 minutes I'd see a reason to complain. There is a simple solution. Quit hitting Secondary Mutation while in combat.
Also, it's so rare to happen that since I bought that pack (on the first day it was available), and use it almost constantly, I have only been "Monkeyfied" only three times now.One of which was in combat and I spent a good 30 seconds or so running my little monkey butt away so I didn't get killed. Laughed my butt off the entire way too.

Unfortunately I will be out of town for this one. Sucks too since I have the perfect costume for it. Oh well, good luck to all the people who can make it.

Quote:My understanding of the mechanic is that when your character is not able to get XP for some reason (Mal/EX down if you choose to not get XP or Level 50) then that XP gets converted to INF instead. As far as I can tell, that has not changed, but with out a RED NAME chiming in, I don't know how to test it.50s don't get patrol XP; thus, I would assume that this power would have no use for level 50 characters.
With one exception: 50s still accrue "Patrol XP" to pay off debt (if they have it), so this could be useful if you're running something really hard and accrue a bunch of debt; you could click the power to pay off your debt and thus not lose out on the bonus inf you'd lose paying off debt the normal way.
But like I said, since this is not something other players can't do in other ways, I think it's a fine Vet Reward. -
Quote:Very good points Acroyear2.Your reading comprehension skills fail you.
I never wrote that that Booster Pack was out of my price range. I stated that for the value of what was contained within the Booster Pack was not worth ten dollars to me, which is a lot of money to some people (myself included). I choose not to purchase it because the price of the Booster Pack exceeds what I consider a good value, and in my opinion is overpriced. I never once stated that those who felt the pack was a good deal, and could afford it, should not purchase it. Heck, if you want it, and can afford it, regardless of what people think of the true value of it, then why not buy it? Why would I care?
And I stick by my point that for some people ten dollars is not chump change. You dont know me, or my origins (no pun intended), or my financial status, so for anyone to tell me, or anyone in my financial position, that ten dollars is chump change does not have a grasp of the reality of the real world just their own little self-absorbed corner of it.
Ten dollars is "Chump Change" for me but that does not mean I don't understand how much it is either. I can remember many times living on Peanut Butter and Jelly for a month at a time just so my kids could have good, nutritious food to eat. Even with it being "Chump Change" for me though, I am not sure yet if I can justify spending it on this pack. As much as I love several of the capes and most of the auras, I am just not sure if it really is worth the money to me either. If they dropped the price a little I would probably jump on it, but I think as it stands this will be the second pack in a row that I choose to not buy. -
I am VERY impressed. These all look great. Grats to all the winners!
-
Ok, this gets me a little excited. I love the Rikti Raids!
-
So your saying that it was announced that BABs had left by this administration? Do you have a link for that by any chance? I would like to see if they gave a reason.
-
First.
Thanks for the news Avatea. -
Quote:Personally, I think this is more useful to people that have been around and have a high number of high level toons, even Level 50 toons. I may be wrong, but last I knew, if you stop earning XP, then it gets converted into cash (INF). If that is still the case, then you are getting 150% of the cash for each kill for the equivalent of two and a half levels of XP. At Level 50 that is pretty significant. Not HUGE, but pretty significant none the less. Alternately, if you use this "power" at level 47, you could go from level 47 to 49.25 in the time it would have normally taken you to get from level 47 to 48. Again, not HUGE, but still pretty significant.Maybe I'm confused. Are you seriously suggesting that this Vet reward provides a significant leveling speed advantage? 1.25 levels that anyone else can get simply by managing their alt play? 1.25 levels that are directed at the very people who are most likely to have multiple 50s already?
I don't care one way or the other, but it seems to me that if anything, Purposeful is too weak. We're talking about people who've been subscribed to the game for six and a half years; if the devs' notion was that those players might deserve the ability to skip some amount of content that they've already done a bajillion times, then this ain't it. On the other hand, Purposeful has no application at all for level-capped characters. It doesn't (presumably) help alts that are already capped out on patrol experience. Do you really think that someone who's played the game since 2004 doesn't have other characters to play while his alts accrue the patrol bonus normally?
Other games do things like auto-level you to 20 after a certain amount of experience as a player. By comparison, Purposeful doesn't rate. It's a token gesture designed to be as inoffensive as possible to non-Vets. In that sense, it's a resounding success -- or should be.
As for your auto leveling to level 20 . . . isn't this game easy enough for you yet? I'm not trying to be condescending or anything, but it is now almost impossible to fail at most SFs/TFs unless you have a really bad team. Add to that auto-completing missions and the 30 bars of Patrolling Experience (works the same as this power) for the Day Job badge and really, how much easier could you really want it? -
Quote:I have to admit, I never thought I would read praise for the Vet Rewards from you Eiko-Chan. I have to agree though, this one is pretty good overall. They found a good balance with this one I think. As one of the main representatives of the "Vet Rewards Suck" party, I'd like to voice my support for this vet power. It's a nice little bonus for vets, and nothing other players can't get with a little more work (or, in this case, a little more switching up of characters.) A very good balance balanced supremely well, Devs.
-
Actually Mr. DJ, I could be wrong, but the way I took this was that Acroyear2 seems to be tired of Nethergoat's condescending manner and was trying to "put him in his place". Didn't do the greatest job of it though.

I've noticed something besides being "Mapserver'd" three times in an hour. There is some really strange lag going on. I've never seen it before but, I will hit a power and about 10 seconds later it goes off. If I was on a full team on a full server, that might be understandable, but I wasn't.
-
OK, I find this really annoying, but so far today I have only been able to play for about one hour. I wanted to play for several hours, but in that one hour of play time I got "Mapserver'd" three times. Also, I was on a full team for about 40 minutes of that time and at least one person was being "Mapserver'd" at all times.
Is anyone else seeing this problem or is it a Guardian Server problem? -
Quote:Actually Lemur Lad, I think my last sentence in that post specifically said otherwise. Here let me post it again:So it's ok for them to tell me I'm a dumb and gullible fanboy for spending my money as I choose but I can't tell them that makes no sense? Ok got it, thanks.
"For you to dismiss someone's feelings about this Pack is just as inappropriate as it would be for other people to dismiss yours."
Now I think you are mostly refering to one slighlty over the top post, but letting yourself get caught up in one persons heated argument is not going to keep your blood pressure down. I personally agree in general with the feeling the guy has about these packs, while I disagree with the specifics of his post. I don't know if it will help you any, but try to look past the words and really firgure out what he is saying. I have been forcing myself to do just that for the last few months and the only people that irk me now are the ones that think no one else has a right to an opinion. -
A Parrot or Dead Parrot costume shoulder piece might just add the value I need to buy this pack right now.

Quote:What you may not be understanding is that there is several things in this pack that I want. The previously mentioned Magic Auras are a HUGE draw for me, mostly because I tend to go magic themed toons and for RP purposes they would fit in real well. A couple of the capes are DEFINITE wants as well. I just think that $9.99 is over-priced. My personal policy is I do not buy things that cost more than I think they are worth. If the price had been in line with previous Booster Packs instead of the prices for the Super Booster Packs, I would have bought it.No, but like MJ, I find it a little hard to accept that sort of difference really being meaningful, and thus being serious feedback. Seriously, that's the difference in me getting a couple of bags of chips from the office vending machine. Either I like the set enough to buy or I don't - the cost of a couple of bags of chips while stuck at work doesn't factor into the equation. If you saw something in the pack you really wanted to buy it for, would you really be unwilling to give up two dollars of something else over the course of three months to afford it?
I'm not saying it's impossible your situation is such that two dollars really makes the difference for you, but it does seem an extremely fine point to me.
I will say this though. If the costume pieces do look as good on the live servers as they did in that trailer, I WILL have to re-evaluate my perceived worth of that Pack. Not sure which way it will go then though. -
Quote:By Dev perfected, I did not mean "Looks Like An Awesome Toon!" I meant the toon may have been specifically chosen because it did not show off the flaws. I am hoping this doesn't happen but, it has happened before. The Mutant Pack for instance had several flaws, the worst being on the back of a toon wearing one of new costume sets. Very visible. Then there was the issue of toons whose heads were mysteriously cut off and moved to the side a little. I don't see how anything like this could happen again with these particular costume pieces, but you never know and so I am waiting to see them in action. Not to sound snooty...but the characters they use for their trailers are rather bland and that's the only thing that really bothers me out of everything they do. The only character in that whole trailer that looked somewhat decent was the Tech one. Sorry...I had to laugh a bit when you said "Dev perfected"

Quote:Someone came pretty close to that I think, but I pretty much skipped what they had to say after the first few lines. Kinda like I do with a few other people in these forums. ^^This thread needs more mentions of face slapping and teeth kicking - with bonus points for anyone who can work in a reference to their sub lapsing or being canceled and manage to link it to a collection of optional cosmetic avatar upgrades costing a couple of dollars more than they were expecting.
In the event of a tie, the winner will be decided by the person who manages to make the best leaving threat - however, this threat will need to mention not only DCUO or TOR as being their next MMO, but they will need to loudly proclaim their guaranteed success and clear superiority over CoH with a straight face.^^
-
Quote:OMG, I never thought of ToTing a manhole cover. That is so getting done this year!Yeah Halloween was the first special event for COH (and the biggest for a MMO at that time) and still the best. The general silliness of trick or treating man-hole covers and submarines helps keep the game light and there are enough different things happening to make the game feel unlike CoH does the rest of the year. The other events have never been able to capture this.

Quote:So on a discussion thread set up by the company making the product, you do not want us to fully discuss it and list the price we would have been willing to pay for it? In other words, you don't think we should provide definitive feedback from our perspective? What he's saying (and what I'm saying now) is that the purported penny-pinching is getting ridiculous. "This pack is worth $7.99 at most! $8.05 is just outrageous! It's an insult to all their loyal customers!" People are quibbling just to quibble and show their entit--, I mean, disappointment.
If the pack doesn't interest you (at any price) or if you think you should get it for free, just say so. Don't try to attach an arbitrary dollar value of what it's really worth paying.
