First! Thanks for the news Avatea! I love killing Rikti!

Quote:"* Please note Origin Auras and Capes are not locked to your origin and can be freely accessed by any of your characters from level 1."Odd. This seems to be the discussion thread, and I don't see anyone saying that. What "facts" am I checking? *reads the thread again* Where does it say that?
Copied from the announcement page which was linked to from the very beginning by Avatea. -
I think you may have misunderstood the announcement. I am pretty sure they are Origin "Themed" costume items, not restricted. Still, I am not so sure I am willing to pay $10.00 for 15 costume items either.
-
Still on the fence and leaning heavily toward NO on this one. Maybe I am greedy, but no costume sets and only 15 costume pieces for $10.00 US just seems steep to me.
-
She may have felt "earnest" in her desire, I think she was just being silly and over-sensitive to boot.
Quote:Except that the only Malleus reference in game has always been the "Mundi". I don't see any complaining about The cannibal badge which is for defeating ghouls. Am I supposed to believe that I ate them?
This is starting to remind me of the time someone was on here saying that the slap/smack emotes promoted violence against women and wanted them removed. Just plain silly
What is her solution for character(s) that use that as a badge title?
I for one lost "Executioner" when they removed it from the game. I do not want to see anything like that again, even for name changes, and especially not on a badge that has existed for a couple of years now. -
Quote:I completely agree. 100%. Of course I have already said it a few times now, but I figured it could not hurt to say it one last time. I just honestly hope the company staff looks at this thread and sees how little support there is for changing the name, not to mention how silly the argument for changing it really is. In short, I hope the PM's to get the name changed FAILS!Relax? I'll relax when she quits trying to remove one of the better badge-titles in the game, that's when.
I DO NOT want this badge title removed. I like it. I USE it. It is great for melee characters. I don't want it taken away from me because one person is freaking out over stuff that happened several hundred years ago.
Ban this, and a ton of other stuff is bound to follow. We have ALREADY had many many lovely badge-titles ripped away from us over the MA debacle. Let's don't lose any more, sez I.
Smiley-Girl is free to use whatever badge titles she wants. If she does not want to use Malleus, THEN DON'T. This does NOT mean the rest of the playerbase should be punished, because her and like, two other people want this badge stripped. Sorry, that's how it looks from over here. HANDS OFF THIS BADGE. -
Quote:I am still on the fence with this one too. Leaning heavily towards no at this point though because $10.00 for 15 costume pieces seems a little steep to me. Especially since I am pretty sure I have already seen one or two of them being used by enemy factions in-game. In the end it will all depend on how good it looks in-game.To be honest, the Origin pack seems interesting, but I am inclined to agree that it is hard to justify its cost compared to other booster packs which have been out far longer still have appeal. I think the origin pack needs more jazz than what is currently being offered, and be brought up to the level of other booster packs IMVHO.
Just my two cents. -

I am done arguing the analogy with you as well. If the badge name, the book it *may* have been named after, AND the act was so "Atrocious" then the two enemy groups and the act of the Nazi Regime they were modeled after should be just as "Atrocious". If you don't want to see. That is your problem.
Quote:. . . even invented history without ever even bothering to look it up, but didn't say a word when you were called on it.
Quote:This is incorrect. Spain actually did not charge nearly as many people with witchcraft during the Inquisition period and beyond as countries like France and England did. The Inquisition's main charge was heresy, particularly among former Jews and Muslims who had converted to Catholicism when the Muslim leaders were forced from Spain during the reconquest, but were charged with secretly practicing their former faiths.
I would challenge you to actually research this yourself. I DID in order to better understand my own religion better, both historically and modern.
Quote:Golden Girl is far from the only one that keeps harping on it.
Quote:I've made a grand total of three posts on the subject now. You, on the other hand, have been the "Defender of the Faith" here for most of the thread.
Quote:Someone mentioned alternative names for the badge.
As for the rest of your post, I ignored a lot of it because it was little more than a rant AND because it was already covered by other people before I had a chance to reply.
Now, since you said you don't want to debate this any more, I wish you a good day and happy hunting. -
Pretty good article overall. It really tells us nothing about the Strike/Task Forces but still serves to get people excited. I found the comments below the article to be almost as illuminating as the article itself though. I hope the Dev's read those, since that is likely what new players will be doing to check out this game before deciding to buy it.

Quote:Actually, the argument was over GG wanting the name of the Malleus badge for killing witches in the Halloween Event changed because she feels it is a reference to the "Malleus Maleficarum" (which it probably is). A book written for the Church in the Middle Ages used for identifying, prosecuting, and killing "Witches". It really is a rather silly argument overall, but go back a few pages and read it for yourself. You might just get a kick out of it.I'm really not understanding why it is that the Malleus Mundi is an issue at this stage of the game.
It's only been referred to in the game since Issue 7.

If it was an issue, it should have been raised YEARS ago -

Quote:I agree. If you want all the badges though, you have to run it five times and pick a different badge each time. You probably already figured that out, but I am putting it in here since I ran with two kids last night, for about an hour and a half, that kept choosing the same badge reward. Finally got a Halloween tip mission drop last night, great fun!
Cool maps, it was fun dukeing it out with some Praetorian enemies with my fire tank, and bashing CoT is always a good time. It had a nice TF/story arc feel going even though it was just one mission.
The reward structure was cool too, it made me want to run it again. -
Quote:Now see, there is no reason to get insulting. I mean really calling me a RPer AND comparing me to GG? Ok, I don't really care about the RP comment (though I don't actually RP) but the comparison to GG was uncalled for.Except the killing is in your own mind. The official story is arresting. Sorry, it's not your game to dictate the rules. You can RP all you want and there is nothing wrong with that if it makes the game more fun for you. I'm just surprised(and entertained) that it went this far when i was actually trying to help your initial argument with GG. No killing, no argument on witches badge.
Instead, I feel like I ran into the male version of GG. That is something I was not prepared for and would not have posted had I known that.
Oh and someone pointed out that Praetorian missions include killing. I will admit that I missed that, but it only adds to my argument. Though I am not sure how they can and not loose the "Teen" rating for killing other people. It really is a lot different than killing an Ogre or a Bantha after all. The "symbolism" of killing a human is often what pushes games into the "Mature" rating. -
Now there you might be right. I do have a strange sense of honor. Killing things that can't fight back is wrong, killing things unnecessarily is wrong, and killing things that are "Your Equal" but vastly inferior is wrong too. Which is part of the reason I do not like MALing or EXing down. By the same token though, if killing is necessary to complete my mission, then so be it. Let the killing begin.
-
Quote:Oh yes, you obviously know me perfectly. Well . . . except that you are wrong again. Enemies that are too much lower do not attack you unless provoked in some way. I simply don't provoke them because I know they can't fight back. It is this same reason that I dislike "kill all" missions and why I normally try to stealth as many missions as I can at higher levels. Most of the enemies just have no chance and so I try to skip them. That doesn't stop me from killing what I have to in order to complete my mission though.Hey, you said that attack you. Why backpedaling?
It's ok. I understand you now.
Well it was fun playing with you, but that was your third strike and now you are out. Good Day. -
Oh, even better . . . or not. I don't kill things that can't fight back. It's a personal issue of mine. Try again. You may manage to trip me up before I go off to bed.
-
Quote:Oh very good points. Well except that if I get close to them, they attack me and I am now defending myself. Good try. Better luck next time."Hey Skybolt, thanks for killing those Hellions before they painted the side of my shop"
"Hey Electro-Kid, thanks for killing those Tsoo and getting my purse back"
"Hey Batman, thanks for killing the hundreds of thugs that worked for Two-Face even the accountants, lawyers, maintenance repairmen, security guards, etc. They were just as bad as Two-Face."
Yeah, its all about perspective. I agree. -
Manticore comes to mind. As does whoever it was that created the vigilante squad known as Longbow. Not to mention several of the Spuer Powered "Higher Ups" in Longbow itself. At least these are stated in the "Lore" of the game as such.
-
Good points all around Aura_Familia. I just don't buy into the goody-two-shoes lore of the game. I know it is a fantasy Super Hero Game and not supposed to be all that realistic, but this particular part of it is TOO unrealistic.
-
Quote:Yea, sucks doesn't it.The ends justify the means. So everyone thinks they are just a killer? Not much heroic in that. What I find delusional is if all you do is kill, kill, kill and see yourself as a heroic figure or evil genius but you are nothing more than a super-powered murderer.
"Hey Skybolt! You just saved the world from total annihilation but your still a murderer!"
"Hey Electro-Kid, thank you for killing those men before they could **** my daughter, but you still a murderer!"
"Hey Batman, you just killed Two Face before he could murder thousands of people, but your still a MURDERER!"
It's all about perspective. -
Quote:I actually was not trying to win the argument. I know that unreasonable people can not be reasoned with. I am willing to admit that the action she is so upset about was horrible, but demanding the name of a badge be changed will not change that and is silly. The name is very appropriate to the INTENT of the book it was supposedly named after AND to the action being taken in the game. You'll never win a battle of morals with GG
she's a bit thick when it comes to that and it typically leads to a thread lock.
Or if you want to talk about the silliness of not killing someone trying to use a laser blaster/machine gun/super powers/etc against you . . . Well, I would not be trying to arrest anyone in that situation. That would needlessly create a greater risk to my own life. I would take them out permanently and I am pretty sure a lot of people, probably most people agree with me.
Overall though, I was not trying to win, I just wanted people to see what I believe to be the foolishness of her arguments. -
I would say call it "Malleus" and let it serve as a reminder or the wrong that was done.
