Small nitpick? I thought the Rikti were not nuclear energy capable, having other technology in its place?

Or am I misremembering the high level respec mission?

Where does it say they have nukes? Air raid just means an attack (or raid) by air. or did i just not see it?

The brutal and unprovoked attack caused incalculable damage in the first few minutes. The city’s protective War Walls collapsed, and vital points of the city’s infrastructure were devastated by tactical nuclear strikes.

Read all about it in this special edition of the Paragon Times! Extra! Extra!

PARAGON CITY, Rhode Island, July 24 – The city’s morning calm was shattered by air raid sirens just after 10:00 a.m. The Vanguard issued an all-alerts broadcast on the Emergency Alert System declaring, “AIR RAID! PARAGON CITY! THIS IS NO DRILL!”

  3. You know, I just realized that this is what 'real' episodic content for MMOs really is.

New plot, new areas, new and better interaction.

And this is why City of Heroes/Villains is so good. Yeah, not every 'episode' is a blockbuster, but they are generally pretty good things and i10 is looking like a 'blockbuster' release.

I tried this trial once before it was pulled and it was the most enjoyable event I've had in coh/cov. I truly hope the devs do not abandon this, and re-release it or create something similar to it for sg's.

    [/ QUOTE ]

This is odd, because it really didn't come across as 'that' cool.

A little laggy and some nice group fights, but I think they need to create some NPC group synergies for the end fight, IMO.

    1) it felt like a slap in the face to have our final showdown with Recluse begin with him yakking about the mighty Statesman, who is idly standing on some boat back in Independence Port, while we are standing right there, ready to give him a run for his money. Please remember that we might like to be considered real heroes, and not bit players. He should be worried about stopping us.

    [/ QUOTE ]

They did explain this part. The "Web" device came pre-calibrated to the Freedom Phalanx and The Vindicators. If Statesman had stepped onto Grandville, Lord Recluse would have won by default because he would have drained Statesman's strength to feed into himself at once.

Basically, Arachnos had already planned for *and* defeated, the Freedom Phalanx. You were just the ones to be called in to do the job they couldn't.
  6. [ QUOTE ]
No offense to anyone but is it me or is Stateman's speech sounding something along the lines of what President Bush gave to the public before invading Iraq.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Except Statesman actually has real information that Lord Recluse is near completion of his WMD that is going to allow him to take over the world.

Lord Recluse would punk Statesman in a one on one fight, so the threat is pretty dire... as Statesman already qualifies as a WMD himself (anyone that can take a nuke or *be* a nuclear bomb counts, IMO.)

(Heh, that would be really cool to see what the Freedom Phalanx would do if spawned to fight Lord Recluse and the Arachnos Flyer.)
  7. [ QUOTE ]
The Paragon Times covers Statesman’s Task Force.

PARAGON CITY, Rhode Island, April 30 – A stalwart Statesman addressed the heroes of Paragon City today at an early morning press conference in front of City Hall in Atlas Park. He was accompanied by several members of the Freedom Phalanx, including Numina and Sister Psyche, and called the conference to discuss the ongoing threat of the Rogue Isles.

(Can anyone say they have come up with a better character creation system? I think not!)

    [/ QUOTE ]

This is true and it's one of the highlights of this game, to me anyway.

    [/ QUOTE ]

It's lightyears ahead of any other game - just look at how unique each player's avatar is.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Heck, my characters *five* costumes are more unique than one set of uber-armor in almost any other game.
  9. But we still need more War Witch, Apex and Horus goodness in game!

So maybe you can sneak them into some of the new missions upcoming?

Some of your fans demand more! MORE! MORE!
  10. Something seems dramatically wrong with those numbers that would show IOs being more cost effective. A high level 50 SO is *only* about 45,000 while a level 50 basic-IO is over 500,000.

Even combining three SOs are you looking at less than 1/2 of the cost of a basic IO that you bought the recipe for and then crafted (and possibly had to buy expensive salvage.)

I have *never* come close to wiping out my influence with buying SOs (I believe it is roughly 2,500,000 inf to fully SO at level 47.)

60+ slots is 21,000,000... and I only have about 12-20 million on my flush high level characters.

Basic IOs seem to be set up to remove influence from the high level game for a small increase.
  11. {QR} I have to say that the change to make people put more than 3-4 slots in things to get full set-bonuses is kinda irritating.

I actually liked the simplification of 'knowing' that 3-4 slots is all I need in most things and maybe only 5-6 in big attacks or powers that have multiple "main" effects like Invincibility and Shadow Fall.

I'd like to see more content period lvl 35-45 would be great.. going to the Moon or Underwater that just has a nice comic book feel to it.

Raising the lvl cap to something would be great but then every one would say "I need something for my lvl X" to do.

The "blue sky" cross server database would be great but that will never happen.

    3) The strength of GW's and Mako's special abilities.
Admittedly, they provide flavor. However, the dark regen and perma-elude can really screw up a team that was not having problems in the first few missions, simply because no one pre-scrutinized everyone's powersets for tactics, focused accuracy, geas, stacked vengeance, etc. or realized that too many melee on the team may lead to insufficient damage against GW. Not sure that prescrutinization of powersets is desirable behavior to be encouraged either.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Actually, you can buy a lot of lucks and counter her PBAOE heal, as they all require to-hits. We did that on our scrapper/tank heavy team.
  14. [ QUOTE ][*]A crafted enhancement with 1 attribute (Damage, Hold, Range, etc) multiplies the level value of an enhancement by 1.0; in other words, it grants full value.

Aren't Basic non-set IOs at 1.25%? And only set single IOs are 1.0?

Or did I get confused about that.

Controllers are well liked in this mission because of all of the ambushes. The developers never said that controllers would be more useful against AVs.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Missed point there - I'm saying that kind of encounter is bad design in general; it's not about the desirability of controllers. I mentioned our troller secondaries specifically because the buff/debuff available on a team makes a difference in what the team can accomplish. i.e. I just included it for completeness' sake in my short review of what happened in our attempt.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Then complain that AVs aren't controller friendly, rather than that this whole Task Force is controller unfriendly.

    [ QUOTE ]
Well I just tried, by the last mission we had 7 left.

    1 tank, 2 blasters, and 4 controllers.

We actually got to the last mission - we took out Aeon somehow.

We were royally owned by the 4 signature villains. We could barely scratch them. A few times we managed to get one down to 1/3 their health - and then they would just starting running around like a super speeder on meth until they regened. (which does not take that long, in a few seconds they can get back up to half life)

    [/ QUOTE ]

I was a part of this attempt. Our controllers were */emp, */ff, and */rads. Oodles of debuffs, sufficient damage, and the ice tank was doing fine with bubbles, stacked AM and emp buffs on him. We kept getting all of the AVs after the first attempt though, and the squishies on the team were just getting 2-shotted continually. Not sure if we just needed more buffing, or the tank was having trouble holding agro, or the squishies were just jumping into aoe range, but we just couldn't survive long enough to kill one.

I wasn't bothered by this, it was my first time after all, but the more I thought about it, the more irritated I've become. Not because we lost, but because of the design. The one big lesson that the LRSF teaches is that fights against multiple high level PToD AVs programmed to cross aggro is poor design. The devs talked a lot about learning from their mistakes (and I do see some evidence of that) but then they went and created another encounter with the *exact* same poor design. That's not cool.

Yes, its only 4 AVs instead of 8, and no they aren't buffing each other, and yes they can be beat - I'm not saying its impossible, I'm saying its poor design. The devs *should* have learned better from the RSF.

  17. [ QUOTE ]
AVs don't drop SOs automatically anymore.

IOs are now in the game and can be found in the invention table. They enhance better than SOs, except where triple slotting and ED make the difference trivial.

At higher levels, TOs and DOs stop dropping, so, the only enhancement drop will be SOs. If you want +3SOs, fight level 53 bosses.

Story arcs still give an SO as a choice.

    [/ QUOTE ]

AVs that don't end the mission upon defeat no longer drop rewards.

Streamline account updating to allow credit card information to be updated without having to cancel and reactivate the account. Under the current system, if you have a new card that's replacing an expiring card, you have to cancel your account and reactivate it again using the updated information.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Well I changed my Credit Card info on the account page last Sunday (which was my 2 year vet reward day btw) as my previous card expired in Feb 2007. I changed it to a completely different card without having to cancel my subscription. Just clicked "Manage Card(s) on File" and then "Change Card". Granted I haven't had a billing cycle on it yet but it shows the info for the new card on my account page.

    [/ QUOTE ]

At the time I made the request a second time, they said it was unavailable at the time and to (once again) post it on the forums. Since it was a totally different card, rather than updating the info to a renewed card, there may be a difference anyway.

At the beginning of this month, I entered a time card for one of my accounts I've set up for a family member and noticed some changes to the account page, such as log in (included new user registration on the same page).

Another new feature was a selection of accounts to apply the gamecard, not just the one you click on in the Game Management page.

Hopefully the advanced notice of account expiry date will be coming soon. Since my account expired just expired recently (definitely no advanced warning at the time), I had no problem with changing the info of my card one way or the other.

As I said before MSN sends out e-mails to notify time of renewal, which PlayNC needs to impliment as well. Less time the account is down the better.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Hmm? PlayNC did give me a nasty email-gram when I forgot to update to my new debit card in January, so I was expired for about... two hours and I went "DOH!"
  19. {{QR}}

Hmm. Sounds like something designed more for the non-permanent pet summoners (ie. Corruptors, Defenders, Blasters, Kheldians and Signature Powers villain-side.)

A pledge to fix it means nothing.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Wrong. A pledge to fix something means that they can be held to account. Admitting that something is broken means you're taking responsibility for it. That's a lot more potentially damaging in terms of lost credibility than simply waving it off.

    [ QUOTE ]
There are plenty of broken things that they have pledged to fix and after they realize they won't be able to fix it, they just lie

    [/ QUOTE ]

Please, give some examples of these 'lies'.

    [/ QUOTE ]

They have never stated they have given up on fixing things, though they have admitted they haven't fixed some bugs because they aren't able to for some reason. (can't reproduce, difficult to fix, etc.)

For the reasons Pax_Arcana stated, Story Arc Flashbacks would need to be treated like "Mini TFs." You should be able to visit any out-leveled contact and run their arc exemped to the appropriate level, locked into it like a TF until finished. In this case everyone should get the reward screen (also like a TF), not just the owner.

To keep things from getting complicated, it would possibly also have to restrict levels on the low end the same way TFs do, too ... to head off the problem of a level 15 being sked into a level 50's Flashback of a level 35 Arc, complete with high-level reward.

I wasn't too concerned about "Flashback" until now, but it's seeming like the only logical and complete solution to the Pool B problem, even if it's something they have to add after I9 goes live.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Man... that sounds like a huge time sink to redo things.. that I've already done {edit: on that character already.}

    Drops II

Doc, can we get a little clarification on "what parts" you are referring to that are only dropped by Story Arcs, Trials and Task Forces?

Are the "Parts of a set" each a different, exclusive part in the story arcs, trials and task/strike forces?
  23. [ QUOTE ]
Police scanner Warehouse missions all [yes I said all] have invisible items the block your way at times. I ahve seen this on both my low level toons and my lvl 49 toon. I should have bugged it and will the next time it happens, but I fear it will go the way of the freakshow mission map with the unmappable area that has yet to be fixed in over a year.

RE:CAPES, while I have a caped costume I seldom wear it in missions because I find the cape movement annoying while fighting. I have never crashed while wearing my cape, and in fact the last time I crashed was during the holiday event and it was not cape related.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Do any of your enemies have capes? Like some of the widow butt-capes?
  24. [ QUOTE ]
Just a note about the "cape crash" ... the only people I see talking about the cape crash are devs and mods. The only time normal forum users bring it up is to mention that capes don't seem to have any effect on whether they crash or not.

There are more crashes lately though!

    [/ QUOTE ]

Well, there has been this weird bug with capes getting stuck in my body's geometry (right-buttock, specifically) and requires switching cape types (old-style, one shoulder, trench) to fix it on the screen.
