  1. Having rolled about 3 Scrappers so far, I had to ask myself what I like so much about being a Scrapper. My play style is more of a Blaster, being that I have a few of those, but getting slaughtered all the time as a Blaster got me thinking about rolling Scrappers for the first time more than a year ago. Now, I have a level 50 Kinetic Melee/Shield Defense, a level 50 Fiery Melee/Fiery Aura and a level 50 Spines/Regeneration. Out of those three, I would say my Spines/Reg seems to have the best PBAoE and AoE attacks though my Fiery/Fiery also has some good ranged attacks.

I ask this because part of my play style as a Scrapper is to jump into large groups and go-to-town. I love the fact that my Spines can rip through large groups rather smoothly as opposed to "cherry pick" my way through. That's one reason I love Blasters with their wide and varied ranged attacks that deal so much damage to large groups. So, with that being said, I want to roll another Scrapper that has some decent ranged attacks, even if its a few powers, but just need help in picking the right combo for my Primary and Secondary Power Sets. In all likelihood, I'll probably end up experimenting like I did with my first three but if anyone has some good suggestive builds, please throw them my way.
  2. Ahhh yes, Terra Volta. I've run that so many times with my toons, I've lost count. I do remember back in 04'-05' how it used to be. I was involved in a few meltdowns then. Kinda neat with the screen going white. Now, being that we have long wait times between spawns, I try to make a game of out it by asking others what door number they think the next spawn will come from. Also speaking of Terra Volta, is it really necessary to get red bubbled all the time? It seems that some people don't even bother with getting bubbled as their hit points drop at a minuscule rate while standing on the reactor floor?

    What is this?

I guess I have been out of the loop for awhile. My guess is that this is a residual porthole from a previous TF or Trial that is new from the last issue update, would that be a correct assumption?

  4. This one has always been an issue of mine, be it though a very minor issue. When you normally hover your arrow over your powersets, you can see what the Set Categories might be for that particular power. This is a nice and quick way to know how to slot a particular power and if it does allow for a set category. Now when you respec or level up and start to re-slot your powersets, you cannot see which powersets have Set Categories. I know there are those who will say that I should know in advance before I start to slot for that powerset. Understood but this is just a nice convenient way to get that same info without having to remember which ones do allow for Set Categories.

Maybe I'm just chasing my tail here because most powersets do have Set Categories but there are some, be it small that don't. Basically just show me the same information when we hover over our powersets that shows me the Set Categories when we level-up or respec.
  5. The one thing I am still trying to figure out with the "Heavy Hitters" in the post count category, if you lets say are at 35,000 post as of today. How exactly does that equate?

For example, since CoH became live which was I think around April or May 2004 seven long years ago, there are 365 days in a year. If someone is at 35,000 posts that would mean if they averaged 1 post a day it would take them over 95 years to get to 35,000. Now if someone wanted to plant themselves by their computer and do lets say 14 posts a day over 7 years, then they might get there.
14 posts per day x 365 days in year x 7 years = 35,770 posts. Do these people really work for a living..heh..heh? What about those that were only on these forums for shorter than 7 years at 35,000 posts?

So, what exactly constitutes a posts? If someone starts a "new" post that would be 1 post. But when they reply to their own post does that count towards the number?
  6. I am not 100% sure if the long time vets I think on their 48 Month that get their little pets can name them? If so, then why not let those with the little Vanguard HVAS Pets have the ability to name their little guys? It would be nice to be able to name these guys like MM's can do with their pets. Thus, making them much more attached to your toon and your toons personality like a true pet instead of just having the Vanguard HVAS display with the toons name below it. Heck, I pretty much have names for all of them for my toons. For my level 50 Blaster Fusion 7, I planned on calling it "Little Fuse". For my Scrapper Torchinana, giving it the name of "Little Spark". For my Stalker Cattalina, calling it "Fur Ball". See, now doesn't that sound like fun?
  7. So I ran both of these A-12 Prototype missions this morning before work. They both completed and then assigned me the next mish. They were also both the same missions from both contacts. So it seems that I now have two contacts in the Bricks who are giving me the same missions at level 34 and I suspect they will be the same missions until the end of their arcs. That's okay, at least I will know where blinkies will be when I do the second exact mission...heh.
  8. I am not sure but I think I just came across a very strange in-game anomaly to where two different contacts in the same zone assigned me the same exact mission. In the three years I've been playing this game I have never come across this before. I read the info on the mission detail and they were exact. The first level 34 mission was from Allison King in Brickstown saying to Stop Prototype A-12 and its guards in Brickstown. The other level 34 mission I got was from Merisel Valenzuela also in Brickstown, same exact mission but in Atlas Park. Either one of two things has happened here. One, the dev's just ran out of content so some of the same missions with the same content might have overlapped each other or this "is" a strange anomaly that does not happen very often. Sort of like a total eclipse that may happen once every 75 years....heh. Anyone else experience this before?

  9. It would have been nice to be able to have the ability to name these guys like MM's can do with their pets.
  10. So, the other night, I jumped on one of my level 50 toons, my enrgy/enrgy Blaster. Since it's been a few weeks since I played her, I noticed I had a option to activate a mini Vanguard HVAS Pet. Does no damage and just flys around with you like the little pets the long time vets get that just look cute. I think I saw a caption that said he was great for parties..heh. The question is, I cannot figure out how I got this little guy? I think I quickly read the info that said something for all my hard work within Vanguard and that was my reward, not 100% sure? I tried to find something more on this via paragonwiki but could not find anything saying that this was just a temp pet for a short period of time or something permanent. Does anyone know more on this? Thanks.

    Temp Powers

/\ agreed. When starting out a new Toon in Praetoria, Red or Blue side, I always run to the market and pick-up the Jet Pack Recipe. I then find a crafting table and get myself a jet pack until I can get decent travel powers in the later levels. The problem here is you are given only 30 minutes of usage for this temp power. You cannot replace it before it runs out. This sucks because when your timer gets low, you may be in other action and not be able to re-craft another jet pack again right away, and if you're in a place like the Hollows, you're screwed. Having the ability to store a few jet pack temp powers would be nice and not limit it to just one at a time.
  12. This past weekend, I logged on with a few of my level 50 toons to get some BAF and LS Trials in. To my surprise, when I would click on LFG tab to enter into the queue for these trials, my wait time was forever. When I say forever, I mean so long that I eventually logged off and did some more important stuff like take a nap....heh. Anyways, my question is if it says your minimum wait time is 1 minute then let it be 1 minute. Unless this is a glitch and this is something that cannot be changed due to long lengthy wait times? If it can be changed, then let's get it fixed so it will show how long you have to wait to get in. As you guys know, you cannot enter into other mish'es if you are in this queue. I know because I tried and it wouldn't work.

So I would say give us the real wait time and not the 1 minute fake time. I know people drop and quit and such so these numbers might change while you are in the queue. With that being said, then maybe there has to be another option. Now I did notice the little button at the bottom that says "first available". I can say I have not clicked that yet so I have no idea what that does? If someone can enlighten me on this, that'd be great.

(I tend to take Misty Wood hunts out to one of the islands now. Only way to be sure.)
/\ this is exactly what I mean. When you get the music and fade-in text on your screen saying you're now in such and such neighborhood and then you plop "straight" down on the ground (not cruise 10ft. or 50ft more but straight down) and start your "Defeat so many so and so's" and don't get the kill credit, then somethings amiss. I guess I am kinda glad that others have observed this and I wasn't loosing my mind. If they wanted to fix this, then instead of it being "Defeat 20 Red Caps in The Broken Teeth" it could just be "Defeat 20 Red Caps". As long as you are in Croatoa. I think there a lot of mish'es outside of Croatoa that embrace this philosophy because of the mash of neighborhoods in various zones and the contact will normally tell you the best place or neighborhood to find these foes.
  14. I just ran a Defeat 10 Fir Bolg in Salamanca from the first mish in the Gordon Bower Contact. Ever since I've been playing this game for almost 3 years now, this has always been an issue and it seems much more prevalent in Croatoa than in any other zones. When given a "Defeat 10 or whatever number" in a particular neighborhood, it seems that even though you might be in that neighborhood, Salamanca, The Broken Teeth, The Misty Wood to name a few, sometimes your kill doesn't count as if you killed your foe outside that zone even though you know that you were 100% sure to be in that neighborhood.

I mention Croatoa because they have so many neighborhoods that cross each other and as I mentioned above, this is much more prevalent here that I'm aware of than in any other neighborhood or zones. My head starts to hurt when I try to figure out why I didn't get credit for that last kill in the right proper neighborhood? Did the foe just travel from another neighborhood and wander in my neighborhood so thus, because they were not "established" long enough in that neighborhood, if I attempt to kill them I will not get the kill credit? Do the foes need to spawn in that neighborhood in order to get credit for the kill? I have absolutely no idea so thus, I hope someone out there in CoH land knows why this happens?
  15. Out of my 15 toons, this is my fourth or fifth Blaster, I can't remember exactly? Anyways, I ended up rolling a now level 26 Rad/Dev Blaster. Unlike my level 50 enrgy/enrgy Blaster with her Sniper Blast, I was pleasantly surprised when I first heard the sound effects for Proton Volley. It kinda reminded me of Star Trek (older versions) and the sound I think they made when they fired their canon or pulses of laser beam balls out from the front of the ship. I'm not so sure it made the same exact sound? It also reminded me of when they were making the first Star Wars movie and in order to get the sound effects for the light swords clashing around, I think they had a recording of someone hitting a power pole support wire from the ground to give it that twangy echoing effect.

I just thought this was interesting being that when someone fires their Proton Volley Snipe, I think everyone in the group will know it has been fired as this sound effect doesn't seem to get "washed" out with all the other sound effects taking place being that it is much more unique kinda like the Kinetic Melee sound effects which I have on my level 50 kin/shield Scrapper.

I understand all that. What I was saying was there should be a vendor that sells level 25 SO's being that it seems there are more mish'es to complete, more badges to get while still in Praetoria after level 22. If you can say that you are okay with the DO's at 22 then great. I already have the contact to leave through the porthole but I want to stay and finish up all mish'es but I don't want to be gimped with my enhancements that I have. Just a simple suggestion of having a vendor sell SO's in Praetoria, nothing more, nothing less rather than doing it via Global Email from another toon outside Praetoria.
  17. So I just leveled another toon to 22 while still in Praetoria and had to use the Global Email from another toon to send my toon in Praetoria a full set of level 25 SO's Enhancements. Not a big deal but it does take a little time to do this. My big question is, why don't we have a vendor that can sell level 25 SO's in Praetoria? I know there must be a lot of people who are achieving level 22 status while still having a few mish'es left. I can see if very few were achieving the level 22 status but I think it's more of a majority that is achieving this while still in Praetoria. And no, I don't want to go to the market to buy IO's. I am just talking about SO's. What do you guys think about this?
  18. So, since I've logged on with a few of my toons, I seem to keep getting this pop-up message box that says if I would like to use the new UI, click new but if I wanted to use the Classic Team UI to go to the Options Menu and Enable it there. I really prefer the Classic UI. Once I would do so by going to the Options Menu and Enabling it, it would seem the message box will still constantly keep popping up on some mish'es. Am I missing something here when I am Enabling it in the Options Menu to go Classic UI or is this some kind of glitch that still needs some bugs worked out?
  19. Okay, I had this vision for I20 on the new League play of up to 48 players. So suppose you have a cave mish and I mean the old blue small cavern type caves. How in the heck are you going to cram 48 toons in there? It would be chaos! No one could get around each other. The guy in the back of the group, when they made their way through the crowd, would see that all the villains were dead already from the people in front of them...heh. Also, if you had a league of 48 people, I would guess that the number of villains would also greatly increase much more exponentially.

Based on what paragonwiki says "Issue 20 introduces Leagues to City of Heroes. A League is a much larger group of characters. Formerly, the largest team size was up to 8 characters. Now, characters can form or join groups of up to 48 characters. Leagues can be formed anywhere in Paragon City, the Rogue Isles, or Praetoria, for any purpose from attacks on the Rikti Mothership to costume contests". As you noticed, I hi-lighted "for any purpose" which would leave me to believe for any type of mish, TF, Raid or whatever. Not to mention the massive lag involved, anyone out there have a thought on this and maybe more input on exactly how this will work very fluently?

Yes, I do remember that. I would say that was one of the most horrid things about that. No one these days of instant messaging and modern day technology really has time to stand around and transfer influence like that anymore. Being that it was such a large issue within the game, it seemed bizarre that it took them so long to ever fix that into what it is today through our global email transfers. Sort of like saying it is hard to teach an old dog new tricks. So, someone had to teach the old dev's some new tricks,..heh.
  21. Back in 2004-2005 while I was in college, I was introduced to this game by my roommate. I was using their account to build my toons. My first toon was a Energy/Energy Blaster named Fusion 7. She had a cocky personality and sometimes thought she was a Tanker or a Scrapper only to fall flat on her face but always got right back up. As you guys might remember, back then we had less "nerfed" enhancements and slotting abilities. I had the Hami IO's which I had her slotted with almost all Hami's. Her Nova back then was so ungodly powerful that the ground shook every time I would use it and everyone was clapping and applauding right after I would use it I would say the line, "someone get a broom" after her massive Nova attack.

Well, as life goes, my roommate graduated before me so thus, the CoH account went with my roommate who said they were going to cancel their CoH subscription Circa 2009, I got back into CoH again. I knew that my goal was to see if Fusion 7 (the name that is) survived the past four years without having someone else take her name. To my surprise, I was able to get the same toon name. Yes, I had to re-build her again from scratch but the love for her never was lost. Now, she is a level 50 energy/energy blaster, fully loaded with the meanest and best IO's influence can buy. Yes, my friends, the day I was able to take down the AV Kronos Class Titan solo, I knew she was back and better than ever. Some of my 14 other toons may have come close to the love, but Fusion 7 will always be my most favorite toon.

    Is This New?

So, at level 32 I still didn't pick-up the Ouroboro's doorway teleporter. I was in the Bricks and decided to run a Holsten Armitage Mish to open up his store and low and behold after the mish I was awarded with the Ouroboro's Doorway. I ask if this is new being that I thought the only way to get the Ouroboro's Doorway was through Faultine and Doc Delilah. I have ran Holsten Armitage's mish'es before never to receive an Ouroboro's Doorway. I know you have to be at least level 25 in order to get it. Does anyone know if they added more contacts that will now provide this? Thanks.

    After Mish Screen Shot:

  23. For those that remember back in the day 2004-2005'ish, remember when you wanted to transfer influence from one toon to another toon? You had to get someone to act as a "bank" then transfer your influence over to them at a pace of 99,999 or 999,999 as I think that is all it would allow you to transfer at one time. I would always submit suggestions on this and ask the dev's to find a better way for transferring influence. One suggestion was to have an ATM to dump your influence so other your other toons could access it. Well, now, needless to say, the global email transfer has solved this in a big way. I cannot figure out though why it took them so long to eventually implement this?
  24. Out of my 15 Toons, my first toon I rolled, a level 50 Blaster, is the only one who constructed a base. I didn't want to join a SB or VG so I just built a base. Needless to say, not much has been done with it because of cost issues to enlarge the base. I would say if they made it "easier" meaning less costly to build "add-on's" and extra rooms, then I might find it more enticing.

Also, I think that if bases are to stay around, they (dev's) need to rethink how bases are used, not just as a giant closet to hold stuff and to show all your friends how cool it is. Over time, the shiny will wear off. There probably needs to be some kind of integration within the game with bases playing a vital part on some missions, TF and such. Maybe when they first implemented bases, they had a lot more in mind for their uses. But, as others have said, it is time for an improvement and to rethink bases.

Hmmmm I never really looked at it that way. I do have a couple of toons with Howling Twilight that do need to be near foes to activate. In most battles I've been in though, you are right in the middle of it all. Meaning unless you run around a corner to TP a foe away from the dead group, you are usually standing around dead teammates with all the action right in front of you without having to TP any foes. I don't know, I kind of feel that in the "spur of the moment" this is a power I haven't found a useful need for yet.
