  1. So I've been working on my first Fire/Kin Controller and just made it to level 22,..Yeah! In building my other toons, see my signature below, I have discovered there is usually a power or powers that are the "Big Kahuna's when it comes to turning the tide in battles. Anyways when viewing the powers through paragonwiki I am trying to determine on the Fire and Kinetics sides which would be the "knock-out-punch" type power that would make all in the room go "ahhhh", "wow" and "simply amazing" followed with a generous applause..hehe.

On the Kinetics side, I'm looking at Transference and Fulcrum Shift as two and possibly Speed Boost as a third. On the Fire Control side, it would seem the Fire Imps and maybe Ring of Fire or Flashfire for greater AoE. Again, keep in mind that this is my first Fire/Kin so I really have no Idea what might work best. Also, in my short time (level 22) it would seem that I perform much better in group/team play with this toon versus going solo. It would seem that this toon might be more geared for team play versus solo, would that be a correct assumption based on the amount of powers that only work on your teammates e.g. Increase Density for example versus working on yourself?
  2. A long time ago I heard somewhere that if you tried to sell high level enhancements to a vendor that only sells lower level enhancements, you wouldn't get the same asking price. So, I wanted to try and dispel that myth. I had some level 31 Invention Set Enhancements and a few 30 Damage and Accuracy Enhancements that I wanted to sell for my level 20 Mutant Controller. I went to the Mutant Store in Steel and got a price for my enhancements and then I went into Atlas to the vendor by Miss Liberty and wanted to see what price I could get. It was exactly the same. All enhancements, all Salvages everything sold at the same price.

So, with that being said, was there a time that this was not the case? Was this changed in a recent issue that would make any vendor offer the same price for your items or was that always the case and I was mislead by someone who said this to me?
  3. I've noticed this every time I build a new toon and pick up a power like Combat Jumping to help with my defenses. When slotting for this power, I usually six slot it with maybe five Defenses Buffs and maybe one Jump. Sometimes I may max all six slots with the Defensive Buffs. When I then view my percentage of where I am at, it always shows it at around 66% or thereabouts. Unlike other power sets when you view them they will usually show what percent you are getting which is normally much higher in percentage. For my level 50 Blaster, I have her 6 slotted with the Red Fortune set and still can barely reach just under 70% with that. Is there something I am missing here about slotting defensive sets or is it impossible to get any defensive set to reach 99% or 100% capacity?

It's quite simple. The large majority of people who complain about knockback either:

    1) Have a massive problem with hitting a movement key. They're probably lazy. (And in before someone with a story about their brother with no arms who really does hate knockback because he can't hit movement keys.)

    2) Are obsessed with maximizing their XP per second, which is quite frankly absurd.

If someone lacks the understanding that Energy Blasters can't control when their knockback occurs, and that it's a feature of all of their powers, and goes so far as to tell you to not use your freakin' primary...they're not worth teaming with.

The purpose of knockback is free, wild, and readily available mitigation. Mobs that are ragdolled can't fight back. It's like every blast has a hold component.

In my experience, as long as you make a clear and concerted effort to cut back on scattering mobs all over the map, or just play on PUG teams that just want to play the game, or in a group of nothing but ranged ATs...they won't mind.
Agreed! I started out with my Energy/Engery Blaster who is now at level 50. I would occasionally get the "No KB" please as my Blaster has some wild KB powers. I used to use my Nova starting out which we know has a massive AoE. I have learned to control how I use my toons Blasting powers by "pounding" the baddie into a corner so they can't move and if they are in the open, then as you mentioned a good KB will stun any foe for a bit as they try to get up and brush themselves off. Then Bam! they get hit before they have a chance to recover. So, I think those who argue and say KB causes them to lose focus and maybe their aggro, then I just won't team with them.

I once teamed with a guy who was the lead tank and he said for me not to use my Pets for my Controller. No Pets,..lol, my pets are my main attack powers and without them, i was just throwing darts and not doing any damage at all. Needless to say I quit that team. I think there is no sense in teaming with someone if you cannot use your powers as they were intended. My goal is to go in and open them up like trash bags and if the bodies fly like rag dolls through the air, then so be it. That's what makes this game so much fun which is the element of pure and utter chaos.

NOR DO I WISH TO DO IT IN ALL CAPS, BUT LIKE I SAID EARILER, I PROBABLY WILL HAVE TO.

Has anyone else got this problem? Anyone know a way around it?
Ahem.....This is I think the funnest part of the game in naming your toons. As you can see, based on my signature below, I have a few toons with very different names. For example, my level 50 Controller Dark Braven, I originally wanted to call her Dark Raven,..and we all know that name is pretty much taken. So, I had to pull up Dictionary.com, spell certain words by removing the "R" in Raven and see what I could come up with. After further thought, I then said to myself, my toon will be Brave and have a Dark side to her. So, I just combined Brave with Raven and got Dark Braven. For my other toon Zambrosia, I orginally wanted to name her Ambrosia, which is greek for food of the gods. Nope, already taken. So, using my Braven technique, I just dropped the "A" and added a "Z" and got Zambrosia. Ta-Da!

I also use a lot of greek goddess names for reference in naming my toons. The easy part is all my toons are women and I always take careful consideration in wanting to give them the best name and to make it easy for anyone who has to type my name in to send me a tell. Fusion 7 was my first toon and I used a number with the name as the name Fusion was already taken. In my toons description, I said it would take all 7 nuclei to combine to form a powerful explosion for her wondrous Nova.

For another one of my toons, I wanted a "cat" theme with her so I ended up calling her "Cattalina". Originally wanted to spell it as Catalina like the island off of California but it was taken so I just added another "t" to make it Cattalina. You know it sounds like Catalina, it has a "cat" reference to it and is still pronounced the same way. See how that works? My last toon I rolled, Fhenix, I wanted to call Phoenix, the bird that rises from the ashes,..you can see the fun in this I hope. Picking a name to fit your toons personality. Anyways, after several, and I mean about a good hours worth of time, after several attempts I finally came up with Fhenix for my Fire/Kin Controller. Easy to spell, and when you look at it, you know it will sound like "Phoenix". Problem solved.

So, in a nutshell, it is not that hard to come up with a name. You just got to be creative and don't and I mean DON'T settle for a cheap name that you will regret later on and have to pay to change it. If you need help in picking names, I'd be more than happy to help out.
  6. I've always had this question on my mind but just never got around to posting it until now. I am sure this has been brought up numerous times in the past and for some reason has never been implemented or brought to light by the dev's.

Currently, we have a max of "holding" 10 given enhancements at a time. When our tray is full, we can either use those enhancements or sell them at a market or vendor. This got me thinking. We have the ability to "increase" our Salvage inventory space, we have the ability to increase our Recipe inventory space, we also have the ability to increase our Market slots for buys and sells. So, how come we don't have the luxury of getting more slots for our enhancement tray? Think about it. You're doing several mish'es and just don't have time to get to a vendor or market to move the enhancements out of your full tray slots. Why not have the ability to have more slots added as we do for Salvage, Recipes and Wentworths Market?

I cannot think of any negatives to why this wouldn't work. So lets say you start out with 10 slots from level 1-10. Levels 11-20 you get another 10 slots for a total of 20 slots. For levels 21-30 you get lets say 5 more slots for a total of 25 slots. Level 31-40 your would get 10 slots for a total of 35 slots. Rinse and repeat. You can see how this would work. So in the end, you might cap out at 40 or 50 slots depending on your level reached. Think about it. It would be like having a giant wheelbarrow to haul all your collected enhancements around. You would then head to the market or vendor and bam, start to unload your slots and giggle like a school girl while doing so.

I know there are those of you who would say that I must be too lazy to want to keep running to the vendor or market to sell my enhancements. And yes, there are those who might say that by adding "extra" slots to hold our enhancements would only increase the amount of coding it would take to make this possible and thus make the game too laggy. Well first of all, yes, I am lazy. I like to play the game for what it is and do more mish'es and TF's "without" having to continually "dump" my tray for more enhancement drops. Second, I really cannot see how much this would hinder the existing coding within the game? Would this really put a bog on this?

So, in a nutshell, can anyone out there in CoX land back me up and give me another good solid viable answer on why this would work? Second, if you say nah, it won't work, give me a reason why and how it would not be practical? Thanks!

In a nutshell, PLAY THE MARKETS!

Started up in Jan 09'. I am continuing to learn new things even at this stage. For example, I just started up another toon an Ice/Ice Blaster and after reading someone's suggestion on how to get more influence in the early stages via the markets, I have been playing the markets at Wentworth's early on to get the best enhancements for my toons who is now at level 32 and has netted just over 50 million in influence so far just by playing the markets and doing regular mish'es.

The biggest/toughest thing for me was trying to get through those lower levels without enough influence to buy the best enhancements. To my surprise, it's working wonderfully. My new toon, a level 16 Fire/Kin Controller has over 10 Million Influence to play with and THIS is why I keep playing this game.

So you see, it is possible to eventually get those wads of cash that you might need to get some of those invention sets or other enhancements. In some cases, some of those high priced invention sets are geared more toward PvP usage versus PvE. So, depending on what you are tyring to accomplish, spend wisely!
  8. Back in 2004-05' while I was in college, I was using my roommates CoH account on toons that I built. I will always remember those old Hami Raids outside of Eden in The Hive. I also remember how everyone would gather on top of those long rock formations and wait outside the "pit". I would recall there was always someone who would take a "lead" roll and call out commands to everyone. They would be hovering over the middle of the pit and it would seem this was normally the same toon who did this for every raid. In fact, they almost came across a little cocky sometimes thinking they owned the place...lol.

Anyways, I do fondly remember the drops that came down and this was before the enhancements were nerfed over. I had one toon almost fully loaded with Hami Enhancements. Ahhhh those were the good old days. With those old hami enhancements, my Nova on my Blaster should have been illegal in 48 states..hehe.

I do also remember the grandiose lag that would take place. I mean it was almost comical as you would be standing there one moment firing away and then the next moment on the ground deader than a doornail. The nice thing though was you would most always have someone rez you back up right away. When these raids were broadcast, everyone came like it was a half off sale at Macy's. It was fun.
  9. You know that's what happens when you don't get your coffee yet.....hehe. It was XP Patrol. LOL. Okay. I had my coffee so now I'm awake.
  10. Quick question: Was doing a mish this morning, the "Save Percy Winkle" mish through the Midnighter's Club. Currently at level 10 with my fire/kin Controller. Well, needless to say I died inside the mish but was able to rez myself with a wakie. To my surprise, I noticed no debt. From what I understood, once you reach level 10 and die, you will get debt. Has that changed or did I not read something regarding my mish that stated that I will not get debt if I died? Keep in mind that no "special" e.g. holloweenish/zombish type event was going on which I know sometimes the debt is reduced or zero'ed out all together or being in the RWZ which the debt is reduced. Also, I did just get the Vigilant Badge so not sure if that had something to do with it?
  11. After rolling 7 or 8 plus toons so far, I decided it was time to build a Controller fire/kin. I wanted to do so for some time since I've been on as of Jan. 09'. When playing the game I would always get tells asking me if I was a fire/kin and disappointingly I had to tell them I wasn't. From what I've read in these posts, a fire/kin is pretty potent to team play, thus it seems the big demand for them.

So, with that being said, for those you "vets" out there who have built your fair share of fire/kins, what I can expect going forward? I am currently at level 10 with her now and so far not much excitement yet and haven't been getting a flood of invites yet like I thought I would. I would think probably as my powers are not at the full benefit stage yet to where a team could really use me is one case. So, to make this easy to rank a Fire/Kin, I broke it down like this:

    1. Value to team play (1-10) 10 being the highest and 1 being the lowest ranking
    2. Solo play potency (1-10) are fire/kins good solo'ers?
    3. Endurance hogs (1-10) do they use end like drunken sailors?
    4. AoE on fire damage (1-10) I ask this as it seems it has a very wide ranged cone of attack.
    5. Feel free to add any other goodies that I may have missed here. (1-10)

Finally, out of all these sets "is" e.g. Earth Control, Gravity Control, Ice Control,..etc,..is Fire/Kin the best? This question would be best asked for those of you who have played the other sets and can give a good comparison. I know there will be bias here towards other groups and sets, I just want to know I will have tons of fun with this fire/kin and just need the pat on the back and reassurance to know that I am in for a good and wonderful journey.
  12. A few days ago I just rolled another new toon, a Fire/Kin Controller. This is my first Fire/Kin and wanted to build one for some time based on all the hype I kept hearing about this build. Anyways, when I got to the final screen with the bio info, it gives you the option to "check name" first before you enter in the zone. Well, when I kept clicking on this button, it wouldn't give me a response to see if any of the names were taken. I think it just gave me an error message. I ended up doing it the old fashioned way and entered the zone and then just had it kick me back if the name was already in use.

So, has anyone else encountered this problem with this button? Keep in mind I have never used this button before, in fact, that last toon I built was the first time I've ever noticed it before.
  13. Okay, I know I'm getting the back end of this as I have not been reading up on this new power,..ahem....Walk. So, I tried it out. My toon looked like she was walking down the runway at a Calvin Klein show. I was moving very slow. This power didn't give me the option to "add" any enhancements. So, as I mentioned above, I have not been reading any of the threads on this new power so in a nutshell, I must ask why? Why now? What can I use this for other than for modeling walks down the runway..lol? Is walk in the baby stages and still in development? Is it because maybe other MMO's are using it so now CoX wanted it? Any new input on this new power would be insightful.

Hmmmm,..I could of swore I saw something in the options menu that allowed you to either enable or disable your display name above your head. I've never done this before so I cannot be sure how this would work. Maybe this was for pets,..who knows? I'm gonna have to check it again and see.

    A funny thought

Last night while laying in bed, I couldn't sleep so I starting to think about things. One of them was about the costumes you get of various foes and such. I was on the other day and racked up tons of new costumes while opening various doors in getting the notorious "Tricks" and then a plethora of "Treats".

So I thought to myself when I awoke at 1am this morning staring up at the ceiling, what if I changed into one of my costumes, lets say my Freakshow Tank Swiper costume and stood in a group of other Freakshow villains, disabled my display name so others wouldn't see it unless maybe they clicked on me to see that I was really a hero or villain in disguise and they couldn't kill me unless I was in a PvP zone. I might get a "Oh My" response or how come you didn't die when I pounded you?...lol Keep in mind that I would take a higher level, such as my 50 toon, so I wouldn't draw aggro from my foes to bring suspicion to me. This might work with my Carny costume, or Hellon costume,...heck, I could hang out in The Hollows around some low level 8 or level 10 villians and pretend to be one of the gang...lol. Then, some unsuspecting player comes along and starts to zap me and nothing happens...hehe. Do you see the fun?

Has anyone else had devious thoughts about this?
  16. I know this may sound like a "newb" question and yes I also know there are those of you who don't like the term "newb" whenever it is used, but this is a simple question for hopefully a simple answer about Invention Set Enhancments.

I am currently working on my level 50 Blaster and buying a variety of Invention Sets that I can afford. (Not Purple yet but maybe someday..lol). Anyways, i have also been using Mid's for my toon in getting her spec'ed out properly.

So, with that being said, let's say you have one Invention Set such as Scirocco's Dervish for PBAoE Damage that give's you with two enhancements a Regeneration of 10%. Now, I pick up another Invention Set let's say Devastation for Range Damage that with two enhancements will give you a Regeneration of 12%. So if I add the 10% from my Scirocco's Dervish with my 12% from my Devastation, that would bring my total regeneration up to 22%? This would go for the other bonuses within that enhancement set such as Health and Damage,..etc. Every time you have one set has the same bonus e.g. Damage 3% from one set plus Damage of 2% from another set = 5% Damage would that be correct? Also, does it cap at 100% and anything over is not used?

This also brings to light when viewing your powers under the "set-bonuses" area and you have some enhancements that say Moderate Healing Bonus or Superior Damage Bonus. I would guess that these would change as you stack more enhancements to "round" out your toon's powers would that be correct? Also, when using Mid's Hero I am guessing that this will break all this down nicely for you. I am still getting used to reading Mid's info so it is a work in progress.
  17. Well, I just added this to the Suggestions and Ideas section. I know, I know, it has probably been beatin' to death from others, but I need to find a solid and good concrete reason WHY they cannot be combined? As some have stated in this thread that maybe it would make it easier to move stuff and thus make us TOO rich?...lol. Okay. That gave me a chuckle...
  18. Ahem,...I placed a thread in the Markets & Inventions section wanting to know if the Hero and Villain markets are combined. From what others have said and to my surprise they are not. Some say, Villains cannot use some enhancements designed for Hero's and vice versa. That's okay, then make those purchasable items grayed out so they cannot be purchased if they cannot get the item(s). I am pretty sure that a large majority of items CAN be bought by both sides versus items that cannot be purchased.

Here's the deal, having a combined market will not only make the buys and sells move better, it will make the game that much more enjoyable knowing if you plopped down a Hamidon Goo for 2mill you know that BOTH sides of the market can have access to this salvage item and thus have a greater chance of selling your salvage or other item(s).
I have this gut feeling that the red/Villain side is much more stagnate for market transactions and thus, it is much harder to get stuff to move.

I am also pretty sure I am not the first one to post this here. Maybe there is an issue with the coding to get the Villain side and Hero sides to interact via the market, who knows? I am not a computer programmer or MMO game designer. I only like to think in logical terms and having ONE combined market makes the best "logical" sense. I would really like to hear both sides to this, the pros and cons. Personally, I cannot think of any cons to why this would be an issue. Any other thoughts on this subject would be appreciated.
  19. Question, and I've always wondered this since I've had my account as of Jan. 09'.
When you log out (full log out) to your desktop, it gives you the option to "exit" immediately without having to wait the full 30 seconds. It also says that if you do exit immediately, you character will still be on screen until the full 30 seconds completes.

With that being said, how come when you log out the the "log-in" screen to sign in to another toon does it not give you this option?

Hehe, as I was typing this a thought just hit me on why you cannot instantly log out to your log in screen. Because if you did and tried to log on with another toon, when you might have a conflict with 2 toons being logged on at the same time until the full 30 seconds runs out so,...hmmmmm I guess that make sense. I think I just answered my own thread..lol.
  20. Quick question as I couldn't find this answer on paragonwiki. Does the Hero market pull from the same inventory as the Villain market?

If not why? Since they all use the same ingredients for their stuff. If so, then good.

PS, I know I've seen the answer here in one of these market guide threads but I didn't have time to peruse before work so thus the quick Q&A.
  21. My bad. I had to edit as I realized I said enhancements instead of salvages which is what i really meant.
  22. So, was on last night with my level 20 Ice/Ice Blaster going against The Lost in a mish. Got up against a boss at the end and just happened to right click on him to check him out. Lo and behold, I saw an "salvage drops" tab. I clicked on it and it had all the probable salvages that could drop from this foe, listed all in a nice little neat line item set-up. I then thought to myself, I don't think I've ever seen that before. Now, I've been playing since Jan. 09' but I am pretty sure this is something new. If so, does anyone know when this was added because I really liked that you can now see what they might drop instead of a Las Vegas gamble on this.

Agreed. I've been on since Jan.09' and have just NOW discovered the Market and how to buy and sell enhancements, salvage and such to earn tons of influence in the early stages. I found out by someone else who posted in one of these threads in how to make influence in the early stages. Its working, my level 14 Blaster has over 2 million in influence and I am kicking myself in the pants for not using the market with my other toons that I got to level 50.

I would say to anyone who is starting out, USE THE MARKET it will help out immensely, as I discovered. As for my other toons that got to 50 the hard way, I have never once begged, asked or even hinted for influence just to buy something. I worked hard at getting my toons to where they are at and when someone begs for influence, I would also say, play the market and make your influence there. If you don't want to play the market, do side missions or such, if you don't want to do that, then you are just lazy. Yeah, I know I can make millions in influence at the drop of a bucket with my level 50 toon, but it's the principal behind this in not wanting to encourage people to continually beg for influence.

The old proverb/saying goes something like this and forgive me in advance if I don't have it right, but you'll get the gist:

"YOU CAN HELP A HUNGRY MAN OUT BY FEEDING HIM A FISH OR YOU CAN TEACH HIM TO FISH SO HE WILL NEVER GO HUNGRY"
  24. So, I was picking up some badges the other night with my 50 Blaster, and was wandering through Atlas Park and came across the Recluse's Victory Zone. So, with nothing better to do, I decided to take a peek and see what this was all about. Now keep in mind, I have been playing since Jan. 09' and this is the first time I ventured into this place...lol.

Based on what paragonwiki describes it to be, my head started to hurt after reading what you had to do. It was sort of like "rub your head and pat your belly", then switch it up and then "pat your head and rub your belly". Needless to say, I was a bit confused on what this zone does other than protect your area and get a few badges. When I was flying around, I only noticed one other player in the zone. I also went over to a couple of the "bubble" type markers and clicked on the bubble and appeared to have activated some kind of weaponry.

So, for those of you who have done this before, in a nutshell, what does this zone offer. Second, can it be solo'ed (based on what wiki says it can be) third what issue was this zone added and finally, does anyone go into this zone anymore or has this gone by the wayside like some of the other PvP zones I've been to such as Bloody Bay and Warburg for example? (This is only an observation from my part that it seems the PvP zones are very unpopulated these days).
  25. Ahem,.....Ahh, I think I figured it out. After further review, I may have bought the wrong level recipes. instead of getting the l level 25 and 30's I think I got the 30's and 40's...lol. Yes, it was late, and I was tired so I guess one shouldn't do the market when they are sleepy. So, with that being said, I went though and did it right and DID get the Colonel Badge and all is right with the world.
