Quote:But you also have lots of damage. I don't know how your kat/sr is spec'ed but at the settings I'm talking about (+2 to level), couldn't you simply burst damage and kill the bosses outright? BU -> Golden Dragonfly -> Soaring Dragon -> Gambler's Cut is a lot of damage.Your traps defender also has a good deal of debuffs and control. A Katana/SR Scrapper really only has defense, and some knockdown/up. When enemies are capable of ignoring the entire thing my secondary uses to protect me by way of insane boosts to their to-hit, and a large increase in damage as well, it leads to a very frustrating experience for me. This is my main character, who I've been playing for 5 years, and the one I do pretty much all of my AE stuff on, since I want him to get the tickets. Getting smashed in the face for around a third of my life by nearly every attack for the first 10 seconds of fighting a boss is not fun.
What difficulty settings are you playing at? As I said in my first post, I'm playing with +2 to level/no bosses, and it seemed really easy. -
More data...
Character : Fiona Firedrake (Fire/Kin/Fire)
Settings : +2/x8/No Bosses/No AV's
Mission : Defeat Battlemaiden and her guards (2 runs and a little bit of a 3rd run)
Starting amount : 110,189,752
Influence from Kills : 12,574,385
Influence from drops : 2,781,352
Total Influence gained : 15,355,737

Final time was 1:00
What was left over :
1 Chronal Skip
1 Hamidon Goo
1 Rikti Alloy
1 Synthetic Intelligence Unit
No recipes of note
A lot of rust since I haven't touched my fire/kin/fire for sometime. I may have to see how her second build, which is fire/kin/stone, will fare. And the influence amount pales to what I was able to do with my fire/shield scrapper. -
Quote:Pretty much agree with this. I'd move the end redx from weave/tough to your more expensive attacks. You lose far more endurance from using powers than from toggles.Besides what's already mentioned...
Combat Jumping - Swap the Jump IO for a Defence Buff IO
Super Jump - Are three Jump IO's essential? In my opinion, I'd stick with one and use the two removed slots for something else
For Blinding Feint...What?! Don't do this again! I'd definately recommend taking this power! It provides a 37.5% Damage and 10% ToHit buff for a 10 second period, twice as much when double stacked, also. To gain it's full benefit, you can use it as an opener for combos or include it in attack chains.
Resurgence - Remove one of the slots.
The build looks good overall, though. Despite having Stamina and Quick Recovery, I still suggest slotting an Endurance Reduction IO for your attacks. Hasten's and Strength of Will's (assuming you take it from Rieze's advice) both contain an endurance crash. They're both rather small, but can still be nasty, especially when combined with attacks unslotted for Endurance Reduction.
Also, I know you want to use level 50 IOs but why? If you're going to bother to craft IOs, get them at level 30 or 35 and call it good. Level 50s are expensive compared to the value they give you. In fact, you'd be *much* better off just frankenslotting with level 27 - 34s (buying set pieces from less desired sets for their enhancement value) than going with straight generics.
Your attacks as current slotted:
Level 50 Acc / Leve 50 x 3 Dmg / Level 50 Rech =
42% Acc, 99% Dmg, 42% Rech
Frankenslotting with 5 slots
Level 25 Acc/Dmg Bone Snap / Level 35 Acc/Dmg Focused Smite / Level 35 Acc/Dmg/Rech Focused Smite / Level 35 Dmg/End/Rech Smashing Haymaker / Level 35 Dmg/End Smashing Haymaker =
61% Acc, 95% Dmg, 41% End Rdx, 37% Rech
You could change some of them out to get more recharge if desired but you'd have end redx and better accuracy. Further, they'd be a fraction of the cost of a level 50 generic. These are recipes that you can buy up at for as little as 2k-10k inf. -
Quote:That's an excellent thermal guide, and the strategy tips were very helpful. Thanks a lot! Here's a thermal guide I wrote, hope it helps.
Silas Can Burn in Health! And so can you! -
Quote:I guess I don't see build up / aim / FE as a problem. Yes, I was hit with those attacks, but I just ate a green inspiration, ran away and then came back. My traps defender is pretty reliant on defense so they did sting. However, they're just two critters on the entire arc. I'd have much more of an issue if the minions and Lts were more powerful, but I didn't feel that they were. The LTs aren't too much of a problem, Follow Up isn't as strong as say, build up, and it requires them to hit you in the first place. Mainly the issue was with the chiefs, Croc Pot, and LOLBAT, the first having fiery embrace and the latter two having build up in addition to their mace and martial arts powers.

Quote:Don't feel too bad.I don't know, maybe this should go into City Life rather than here. But it is a question/discussion....hmm, if Mod 08 wants to move it, I won't argue
Anyway, as I'm rapidly approaching my 60 month vet badge, I got to thinking about the sheer number of characters I've made and deleted over the years and then that led into a thought stream of all the stuff in-game that I've still never done...
So, for all you long timers (or even you short timers if you feel like joining in), what in this game have you never accomplished?
For me:
I've never been on a Hami raid
(actually I've only ever SEEN Hami once on my main badge character, trying about a dozen times to get the Heart of Hamidon badge)
I've never even attempted any of the Statesman TF, Recluse TF, Lady Grey TF
I've never successfully finished the Hydra/Sewers Trial
I've never done a Hess TF, but I have done the other TF in Striga
I've never gotten the Task Force Commander accolade
(collectively, I've done all of original TF's, but never all of them on one toon)
---
So how about it? Anything you've never done in the game, but keep meaning to?
I've been playing since retail release and I don't have Task Force Commander on any character either. I have a number of characters with 3-4 TF badges, but not the 4th or 5th. TFs are surprisingly tough for me to participate in since, while I can play alot, I have to jump off the computer after an hour or so fairly frequently.
I have never done the new Hami. I have had plenty of opportunities to do so, but I disliked Hami raiding back in the day, and once SHOs were winnable by doing the States TF and invention IOs came along, I've never looked back.
As to the other things I've never done...
* Calvin Scott TF - most newer players have never heard of it. By the time I even heard about the TF, the TF was removed.
* Unlocked Viridian - who apparently has some of the most awesome PvE content in the game. It's something that I'll eventually get to one day.
* Have more than 250 badges on any one character - I just don't care about badges unless they unlock something or provide an accolade. The 250 represents just playing the game, purposely getting accolades/unlocks and a bunch of Veteran and market badges.
* Reached the influence/infamy cap on a single character.
* Completed either of the PB/WS story arcs. My highest Kheldian is level 12 Peacebringer (created in issue 3), though I've had access to them when they were first introduced.
* Baracuda SF (though I've done the hero version a few times)
* Eden trial
* Have only done 1 Shard TF (Sara Moore)
* Completed more than just a handful of the Ouro badges -
I thought the villain side mission, the Great Face Off, was better than Mission Awesome...at least in terms of humor. The messages you get when you take down the firewalls were pretty good.
-
Quote:I'm going to have to retry that arc with bosses in it. The Lts I faced didn't seem that bad at all. In fact, they presented no problem whatsoever.I'm going to have to disagree with you completely. The chef bosses have fiery embrace and shield's +damage aura. The chef bosses have follow up, which isn't quite as bad, but it's still worth mentioning. Essentially, nothing in that arc has anything set below hard, for better or for worse. Some powersets are fine on hard, others will completely dominate most people.
Which is a shame, because I enjoyed the writing. It wasn't the best, but the villains are suitably ridiculous, and no, the whole thing isn't ZOMGLOLBBQ speak. Seriously, it's just one character. I don't understand the extreme trepidation some of you have. -
If it's the one where you break The Great Face out of the Zig, then you have to escort two people out of the Zig...at least I had to: The Great Face and his uncle. Only then will you get the complete.

Character : Flame Fencer (Fire/Shield/Blaze Scrapper)

Mission : Close Dimensional Ruptures (Council Empire, 3 full runs)
Starting amount : 794,130,432

Final time was 1:02 approx. Spent a bunch of time chatting so easily under 1 hour if I just spent all the time farming. Time includes zoning and selling (WW teleporter and Ouro for the win!)
Stuff I didn't sell
Fortunata Hypnosis Chance to Placate
2 Rikti Alloy
2 Diamonds
1 Chronal Skip
1 Essence of the Furies
No other notable set recipe that I didn't either delete or just vendor
Time to complete the first run 19:00 flat (concentrated and didn't chat)
It's interesting to compare my data with MrLiberty and Aliana's. 25M seems to be the breakpoint (assuming 3 runs) using that particular map and a shield scrapper. Mine is nicely IO'ed and sitting at +72% recharge.
I'm going to see if another map is faster and will probably try to open up Harley's Demon farm.
Also, could we just set a fixed rate for rare salvage to include in our calculations. I know most of them can fetch anywhere from 500k - 3M, with the median being 1 - 1.5M. How does 700k for each piece of salvage sound? That's on the low end of average. -
Quote:AoE heals is a terribad way of protecting the team. Using your primary to prevent damage in the first place by rendering the opposition helpless if far more effective. Sure, as an emp, you'll heal on occasion, but there's a huge difference in using spot heals here and there and then spamming heals, and in the process annoying alot of people. Don't make baby Jesus cry, learn to use your primary.Hey there, I have a level 30 or so Gravity/Empathy healer aptly modeled after Jesus XD and of course, I want him to be a healer. (No, he can't cure your blindness.)
A question I had was how effective a Grav/Emp build could even possibly be for team healing, as I want to make him more of an AoE healer as opposed to a single target healer. Also, what are some good builds for this kind of thing, if any.
With that said, illusion/emps make great support controllers (if you're looking for suggestions on build choices) with a primary that gives you stealth, damage and a way to manage aggro. That allows you to play your secondary more safely. -
Played Bill Willingham and Scott Kurtz's arc this morning. I enjoyed them both but went into it assuming that neither writer was a CoH expert and wouldn't hit a home run at their first at bat.
Willingham's arc as stated by a number of posters had a plot twist that was entirely guessable. However, you're also dealing with an audience that has been spoiled by Nemesis. I thought the story flowed pretty smoothly and even though I felt a little bit like a mouse led through a very linear maze, I thought it worked.
Is the arc a stellar work of writing? No. Was the mission enjoyable? Yes. A good effort for a writer who's working in a new medium. Not a homerun, but certainly a base hit.
Willingham's arc, excluding possibly the end boss (though the last mission warns you on that), is solo friendly. My Traps/Sonic Defender had little difficulty with the arc at +2 level x 1 players, no bosses, no AVs. The last boss spawned as a +2 elite boss, and I can see how she'd be difficult for some character types.
Kurtz's effort was much better. In fact, I enjoyed how he cleverly used some of the bomb objects. I really thought that of the three bosses, that particular boss came off as a real mastermind. I also enjoyed the humor...a number of moments that while they weren't laugh out loud funny, were definitely chuckle worthy. I'd look forward to any new arc Mr. Kurtz decided to make, because I liked his first effort very much. Again, not a homerun, but certainly a base hit for extra bases (double, triple?)
The arc is well balanced for difficulty. I don't think my Traps Defender would have any difficulty handling it at +4 level with bosses. None of the custom mobs are very difficult. The colored Red Caps on the other hand could be problematic... -
I like the idea that an earlier poster mentioned about giving defenders the same inherent as blasters, defiance 2.0. I think that would solve a multitude of problems, giving a solo defender more damage and allowing them to do something when mezzed. A team oriented inherent isn't really that necessary since defenders already function well on a team with a suspect inherent.
As for defender damage, I think that most posters would agree that unless you're playing sonic blast, defender damage is somewhat lacking. Sure there are exceptions. If using a ton of damage procs you could reach a dps over time that is somewhat respectable, but for players who use SOs or generic IOs only, this wouldn't be their experience.
As for problem of damage multiplication on teams, I submit that the only way you'd see an overall buff to defender secondaries is if you dealt with the one outlier: sonic blast. It would have to be normalized (dare I say nerfed) so it wouldn't so vastly outperform other sets. I'd probably suggest lowering its -res value for either a higher overall base or an inherent such as defiance. -
Character: Flame Fencer (Fire/Shield/Blaze Scrapper)
Setting: +2/x8/No Bosses/NoAVs
Task: Council America Map, ran 3 times in 1 hour.
a) Inf from Enemy Kills: 3,610,017
b) Inf from Vendor Sales: 2,879,765
c) Total: 6,489,782
Strangely, I got very few enhancements, but a fair number of common recipes. Astonishing that Aliana Blue got so much more with a lower difficulty and doing 2 1/2 as opposed to my 3 full runs...on the very same map no less. Almost wondering if my map is bugged. The three runs were amazingly consistent (1.15 to 1.2M of enemy kill influence per run).
Stuff I didn't sell:
1 Diamond
1 Photonic Weapon
Thunderstrike Dmg/Rech
Eff Adaptor End Mod/Acc
Draconic Wing Costume Piece
Titanium Coating Resitance
Soulbound Allegiance Dmg
EDIT: Just realized that I was in SG mode the whole time. I'll do this over tomorrow. -
Over DXP weekend, I got an electric/thermal corruptor to level 32. I envisioned her as mostly a support oriented character with the capability to solo if required.
I have found that my thermal character is the most active character I've ever played. I'm experienced with empathy (ill/emp and earth/emp controllers), a variety of shielders (sonic/sonic corruptor, FF/sonic defender) and kins (ice/kin corruptor, fire/kin controller), but it seems that thermal has to spread around more buffs than any of the characters I've mentioned *and* find time to blast at the same time.
Most of the weekend, I've spent most of my time playing my secondary almost exclusively. Admittedly, most of my time was spent on PuGs (of varying quality) but I seem have to spend a lot of time first making sure everyone is shielded (2 buffs), the squishies are thawed (gave up on trying to have this up all the time), the main damage dealers forged and then applying spot heals as needed.
Thermal feels way busier than empathy (maybe because shields are resistance based, not defense based?) and it seems like the two shields and forge are sort of three buffs that equivalent to one in empathy - fortitude (I know that's not the case, it just feels that way).
Anyways, any advice on how to play without feeling spread so thin? How do you prioritize buffs, and how much importance do you place in keeping everyone shielded? -
You can get a general idea from this thread talking about a rad/ment blaster.
EDIT: In just looking over your build, it seems by just going with the ice epic (frozen armor), you'd be close to the cap. I don't have Mid's in front of me; otherwise, I'd check. -
Quote:Are people that desperate for the set bonus that they'll bid on a level 21? Even if I needed that particular IO for the 2.5% def all, I wouldn't buy anything lower than a 35.Tired of covering level spreads? Your wait is over!
Sometime Wednesday evening between 6:00 and 9:00 p.m. Pacific I will put a crafted level 21 Gaussian's Synchronized Fire-Control: Recharge/Endurance Reduction IO up for sale on the Black Market with a minimum bid of 50 million infamy. Beat the competition -- bid early, bid high!
I will post the result of the sale on Thursday. -
I'm honestly not crazy about your choice of travel power. If you're going for a melee oriented build, which is totally fine, then invest in combat jumping/hurdle rather than swift/hover. That will enable you to better position all those AoEs, especially since you'll need to switch between cones and PBAoE attacks.
I also think that going for a capped S/L defense build would probably be more effective. You could even build in some range defense in such a build and have better overall protection. -
I like flight but every time I've taken hover/fly on a character I've missed the mobility of combat jumping and it's immobilization protection. It's irritating just to use up a breakfree just because you're rooted in place. Super jump is also faster than flight by far, and is pretty fast with just the default slot. Flight on the other hand (and hover as well) require more investment in slots to have adequate speed.
Usually I only take flight for characters that call for them being flying characters by concept. If I'm just min/maxing then it's combat jumping/super jump everytime. -
Quote:Power Boost *does* increase flight speed (as does Power Build Up, which is hybrid of Power Boost and Build Up).Am I mistaken or did Power Boost get changed sometime back? The reason I ask is because I know that I have used Power Boost in the past and its increased my flight speed. I could be confused and thinking about Power Build Up, but I am not sure.
From Redtomax, effects of Power Boost:
* Stun, Sleep, Confused, Terrorized, Immobilize, Held +78.672% for 15s
Effect does not stack from same caster
* RunSpeed, FlySpeed, Heal, ToHit, Endurance +78.672% for 15s
Effect does not stack from same caster
* DEF(All Types, Defense, Melee, Ranged, AOE) +78.672% for 15s
Effect does not stack from same caster -
Quote:This. You're looking to deep into something that doesn't matter. The system works so there is no need to change it. You can look at endurance as endurance or you can look at it as mental focus/dexterity for focusing during combat.
The change you would like to see would take too much to implement and wouldn't be worth anything to anyone except AR Blasters. Remember this is a video game, not real life. Some times things do not have to agree with reality and those things need to just be accepted and move on.
Also, why make a big deal about AR...or do you have plausible explanations on why beings who can hurl fire and ice from their finger tips are so common? Please...it's a game. -
Quote:I just alternate shriek and scream. I have shout in some builds but only because the builds are low in recharge. As for a third attack, that's usually howl (which is my opener when teaming)....anyone know the best single target attack chain for a /Sonic?
Looking at Shriek, Scream and Shout...they all seem to be pretty close to Damage Per Second.
Shriek - Scream - Shriek - Shout - Repeat, I think is the way to go, but looking for varification.
Thanks in advance. -
Quote:This is a bias and a personal preference, but I would much rather have S/L very near or at the cap rather than have it a 37% and a mixture of other type of defenses. You can see the qualitative difference between 40% and 45% pretty easily. The difference between what you have in 37% and 45% is huge. With this build, S/L defense is at 36.9%, with some added E/N defense at 22.1%, melee at 28.9%, and ranged at 24.9%.
That does mean that you will have some encounters where the S/L defense won't be any good at all, but that doesn't mean you're helpless in that situation since you can still blast, apply mezzes and use soft controls. -
Quote:The game is quite different than issue 1 and 2. Before looking at builds, familiarize yourself with Enhancement Diversification.Hello all and thanks in advance!
I have taken quite a long break from the game, and was wondering if anyone has any respec help for my Lvl 43 Fire/ Dev Blaster.
I mainly solo for time restraints, but I am not opposed to grouping.
Rite now he is slotted as he was at issue 1 or 2. IE, 6 slotted smoke grenade, 6 slotted stamina etc.
I am looking for sample current builds that I can respec to or at least tweak him so he is current and is slotted correctly for the game now.
Again thanks for any input, and I can't wait to get back in there!
It's a change that was introduced around issue 6 that diminishes the effectiveness of 3 or more of the same kind of enhancement in any power. Typical slotting for blasts for example (if using SOs) usually follow 1 - 2 Accuracy, 3 Damage, 1 - 2 End Redx, 1 - 2 Recharge depending on the cost of the power and how fast you want it to recharge.
Also both fire blast and devices have undergone a number of changes. In fire blast, it is now a good idea to take flares since the animation time for the power has been markedly improved and it's one of the powers you can fire off when mezzed. Under new defiance 2.0 (you probably skipped defiance 1.0), blasters can fire off their tier 1 and 2 blasts and their tier 1 secondary power. So in your case, you can fire off flares, fire blast and web grenade. Also, Defiance is an inherent that works as you fire off powers giving you a damage buff to your attacks as you activate powers.
Smoke grenade is no longer the crutch it once was and is now merely a very optional power that some people take and others don't. It will no longer make you virtually unhittable...that was corrected back in issue 2. Mostly people take it to cap defenses or as a poor person's invisibility.
Sample build (using SOs only) would look something like this:

You'll note that I used one IO (Invention Origin) in your build. I'd recommend that you buy and slot a -kb (anti knockback) IO even if you stay with SOs for your character. It's a decent substitute for acrobatics and it costs no endurance. It's pretty much a staple for even SO only characters since the benefits far, far outweigh costs.
