  1. So far, I've gotten through the following arcs.

Arc #356477 by @Venture, The Christmas We Get
Comments: Wish I would've read the souvenir before sending in my feedback. I liked how that wrapped the plot a bit tighter.

    Arc #2711 by @Bubbawheat, Whack A Mole
Comments: Probably shouldn't have gone in with +1/x2/Bosses Yes difficulty. Still managed 4000 points, though I failed the first mission. I did manage to still win a prize with the second so I felt a bit vindicated.

Arc #61013 by @Aliana Blue, Invasion of the Bikini Clad Samurai
Comments: I never would've expected Ed Wood to be resurrected and used in such a clever manner. Made him out to be quite the hero.

Arc #246459 by @Zamuel, Illpracticed Malpractice
Comments: I got paranoid by your comment that the escort could die so I cleared the map very carefully and then raced out the door with the hostage. I was expecting massive ambushes. Still a fun, short mission.

I'm right in the middle of Talos Vice by @PW (Police Woman) and will get to the other ones soon.

These were a lot of fun, and I 5-starred all of them.

That's mostly from the level 50 market point of view, but if I get drops for them at any other level I have no problem crafting and tossing into the storage bin. They're not going to make me a lot of money otherwise.
You need to re-look at those two recipes then. The below 50, especially ranges 35-42 Thunderstrikes and 32-37 Crushing Impacts, are in very high demand. I've sold a bunch of them for 3M a pop, I've sold a number for 7-8M. Considering the ease in which I got the recipes and the low cost of salvage, that's a phenomenal return on investment.

I go for a high volume selling strategy and those IOs move fast enough for me that I will make them an active part of my marketing strategy. And 3-8M is plenty of profit for a slot. I've made billions in marketing things like Triage and Serendipity, so I'm not embarrassed at all at making *merely* 8M a slot, especially if the turnover is fast (fast = must sell overnight).

I actually agree with these points. The game could be better advertised, and it does lack a lot of press. The economy has undoubtedly affected subscriptions for a lot of games.
  4. Ooh, lots of suggestions. I'll try them all out tonight and possibly tomorrow afternoon. Thank you all. And Wrong Number, I'll go look at that thread you suggested also. I didn't know there was a similar thread of this already.
  5. A+ for having a post with real data and no DOOM.

Wow, that's an eye opener. I didn't think fire/shield would have that many results near the top. I haven't looked at that thread in quite some time.

I once posted a thread in this forum titled Fire/Shield FOTM and remember getting roundly castigated for claiming without justification that Fire/Shield, especially Fire/Shield/Blaze would become one of the most popular scrapper variants.

While I'm not sure whether or not Fire/Shield is more popular than Electric/Shield (better AoE) or Dark Melee/Shield (better AV soloer), I think a lot of players like the fact that it's a good compromise choice between for those who like AoE and single target. It is however easy to see that it has become a very popular variant of scrapper.

Redside, I have a 21 (22?) Ice/Kin Corruptor languishing on Virtue (would transfer to Freedom, obviously) from the BMLS Cap run days, but I've no idea if you guys are doing any teaming or if it's more a "do your own thing" deal.

Regarding a global channel: I'd say keep it in the market channel, if only out of selfishness because I'm already at 10 and can't really afford to drop any of them.
    Do eet, Mac!

And as for TFs and things, it's a combination. The Fire/Rads have a regular teaming night and some folks are very active in teaming up with each other. I'm honestly more of a soloer, though I've teamed up with SG mates on occasion.

Using a couple of charts on Paragonwiki (here and here) and making some assumptions (buy a full set of enhancements every five levels at your level +3, buy TO's until 15, DO's until 25, and SO's from then on) I made the following chart:

    LEVEL CASH
    2 .....$2,500
    7 .....$13,000
    12 ....$119,700
    17 ....$223,440
    22 ....$1,050,000

    37 ....$3,408,000
    42 ....$4,428,000
    47 ....$5,580,000

The challenge: Starting at each level, with 0 inf, how many minutes does it take to earn that amount of inf?

This may be more of a farming test than a marketing test, I think, if we're talking about being continuously logged in, especially once you're into SO levels.
It would take me approximately 1 hour to 90 minutes to get to the 5.58M mark assuming I was level 1 with 0 inf. I can say that with almost absolute certainty because I've done it multiple times.

The difficult and longest part of the exercise is to get around 800k. Once you have that, it's very easy to translate that quickly to 5-6M. With 800k, you can bid for many recipes that cost 200-300k, craft it and then list it for 10 for a near immediate payoff. There are many level 40 and 50 niches that can get you this easily.
  9. Hi all,

I've been leveling up characters and grinding tickets on two characters as part of an initiative to bring more midlevel recipes into the market. My characters have alternatively been running story arcs and at times grinding away at the notorious Samurai farm.

I've had enough of green, red, blue Samurai to last me a lifetime (no more of those thank you), so I wanted to get your recommendation for good story arcs that are short. I typically jump on to play for an hour at a time and while sometimes I'll take in a five story arc, most of the time I can't/won't/rather play something shorter.

So give me some recommendations for story arcs 3 missions or less, and I'll be happy to play, rate and send you feedback.

My two characters are a level 33 DM/Regen Scrapper (level locked) and a level 23 Bots/Dark MM (will level lock at 33). Both are modestly IO'ed but mostly use SO slotting, so while I want something that's challenging, I don't want something that's only intended for a suped up, heavily IO'ed monstrosity.

  10. I've acquired v-side beacons for Port Oakes, Sharkhead, Nerva, St. Martial and Grandville. I have also placed the second teleporter.

Teleporter 1: Mercy Island, Cap Au Diable
    Teleporter 2: Sharkhead, St. Martial

We don't have enough power/control unfortunately at this point to keep 2 teleporters and the Medical Bay operational, so I opted to eliminate the Medical Bay at this point. I hope to put it back soon enough.

Hint, hint ..we could use some help in getting prestige v-side since my meager efforts don't seem nearly enough.

Storage wise, we have 1 enhancement bin, 2 salvage bins, and a vault with room for more once we have more prestige available.

    PvP IO for sale

First of all, grats. You're the among the first winners of the Gladiator lottery. Fortunately, I have neither a need for this particular IO or (unfortunately) the funds redside to acquire it. However, I'm sure you'll get a buyer. I've also noticed that the demand is far stronger blue side.

Would purples still drop if there were no bosses on the map?

    Thanks again.

    I nub.
I run +2/x8/no bosses on my fire/kin, +2/x8/bosses on my fire/shield/blaze. There's no appreciable drop in speed between those settings and +0/x8, at least for my characters.

Nope, it was directed at the OP. You're misunderstanding me. I agree with your stance on the idea of making older characters more powerful as being a bad idea (I say pretty much the same thing in my first post). I also agree with Obsidius in that peppering a critique of the game with words like "dumb", "stupid", etc. won't influence the developers in changing their viewpoint.

So again, my comment was directed at the OP, not you.

I was totally surprised the lack of Non-Prime AOE recipes. If it wasn't a Scirocco or Positron piec they weren't making it to the market.

My goal was to make this toon without dipping into the Pool C pool if you will, staying with uncommon recipes that drop all the time. Apparently because there is no market they are getting vendored.

I propose an AE Bronze Ticket Roll Blow-out. Let's take a team and max out our tickets 2 or 3 times, take Bronze Rolls 35-39 and stock up all the Melee, Ranged, AoE crafted IO's we can carry for the SG use.
Crushing Impact and Thunderstrikes *are* commons. I put them in the bins for SG use because a) I've already sold 2 or 3 complete sets of each and b) the character doesn't need the influence.

The only way I could improve my build at this point is going for a defensive build that would include 2 sets of Kinetic Combat and grabbing Weave. That would get me up to 17% melee defense which is far from shabby for a level 33 regen. However, the build I have right now is far from bad, so the difference in performance in being able to complete story arcs or participate in TFs is only marginal.

So again, take the Crushing Impacts. No one else seems to want them.

Finally, peppering posts with negatively charged words like ridiculous, dumb, and stupid is probably the worst way to influence readers to one's point of view - especially the developers who supposedly made these things "ridiculous", "dumb", or "stupid". In short, you're back-handedly insulting the very same people whom you wish to influence. Many know how little BAB like to be called "lazy" for example; you're shooting your own ideas in the proverbial feet.
Completely agree with these last two paragraphs. Veterans should have a big picture view instead of just focusing on the details. Also, disparaging someone's work by calling it "dumb", etc. is not exactly conducive to influencing them.

1.) Fly is too slow, it should be at least as fast as Super Jump or Super Speed, please.
It's balanced as is by it's versatility and safety. Though I would support an increase to the speed of hover.

    Quote:
2.) Jacobs Ladder animation is too slow.
It's balanced due to the fact that it can hit multiple targets. Compare it with shadow maul and it comes off as a very good power.

    Quote:
3.) Crey Pistol accolade power is pathetic, either increase it’s availability or give it some power or better yet… both.
It's a fluff power given by a badge. Don't think a change is needed. Many accolades do not have any powers associated with them.

    Quote:
4.) Mission Transporter power could have it’s recharge cut in half, a 2hr recharge is just ridiculous, better yet make it 30mins.
Disagree. I think it's fine considering that this power can be bought. Even with the 2 hour timer, it's pretty powerful.

    Quote:
5.) Do away with Falling damage, I didn’t realize how much more powerful my characters felt until I dropped 300’ down over the edge in the ski zone to a mission door and took no damage.
Disagree. If you fall, you *should* take damage.

    Quote:
6.) After level 15 you should only receive DO’s and after level 25 only SO’s as Enh drops.
Personally, I think they should go further and just eliminate origin-specific drops altogether. Origin, as implemented, really doesn't do anything other than inconvenience players at lower levels.

    Quote:
7.) Do away with Trains as a means of inter-zone transportation, in a superhero game this is just … well I can’t even begin to say. Train stations could be converted to Tele-portal stations, like a scaled down mini version of Portal Corp only no clicking on it, pick a portal by the sign over the portal off you go, you’d just walk into it. If you have a mission selected in your Nav, any portal would automatically take you to that mission’s zone.
    Not a bad idea actually

    Quote:
8.) Independence Port needs to be zoned better in mission descriptions, divide the zone into Indy North, Indy Terra Volta and Indy South. The whole zone is just shy of 3 miles long, presumably if your contact knows where the mission is they should be able to tell you what section of the zone as well.
Don't disagree. The zone is too big, and was obviously developed during the time when the developers thought that huge expanses were necessary. It could go for a revamp, but it's not the worst zone in the game...I'd rather see other zones revamped first.

    Quote:
9.) Contact cell phones need to be issued after the first mission, almost every contact you have is a referral or has already asked to work with you, why on earth would they not trust you enough to give you their number up front, isn’t time supposed to be of the essence ?
Don't disagree. This is a commonly asked for feature.

10.) There needs to be a Badge for taking out Snipers.

11.) There needs to be a Badge for rescuing people on the street, either that or tie these rescues into character reputation somehow.

12.) Winter Event Present Inspiration rewards, I wouldn’t mind having fewer drop but actually have them do something special, like Cap an ability for 20-30mins, maybe you can only have 2 things capped at any given time. Maybe a temporary power like SS, SJ or TP Friend or even a Temp Store where you can trade in so many presents for a Temp Power your char would normally not be able to have. It’s only a few weeks a year, lighten up.
No opinion on this. Nice to haves, but not something I'd consider crucial.

    Quote:
13.) Archery Set, animations are too slow, range at 80’ is ridiculous, speed up the animations, increase the range to 100’ and give the snipe some damage, it’s remarkably weak compared to other snipes.
Disagree, and it's balanced compared to other sets. In fact, you can actually argue that archery is much more powerful compared to other sets. Range is fine...there are many other sets (AR, energy blast, sonic, fire) that have key blasts and powers on far shorter ranges.

    Quote:
14.) Why do none of the Ranged Damage IO sets have any Range in them?
That's a good question and yes, it's a suggestion that I would agree with. Having a ranged set with range enhanced would be nice.

    Quote:
15.) The Devs need to monitor the Market better, there are whole segments of the market that have ZERO product available. When this happens for an extended period the game should automatically dump some product into the market, or better yet the game should increase the drop rates on the recipes that have depleted themselves. What good is an Invention system that offers nothing to invent?
Strongly disagree. It's not a store but an exchange. Players feed the market. If you want more supply, the devs could potential increase the drop rate, but that wouldn't necessarily cause players to put up their recipe, salvage, etc. on the market.

    Quote:
16.) The Archery set desperately needs a bow based melee attack, and I don’t mean a pansy Stun, I mean a swing-your-your-bow-like-a-staff-whack-attack that does decent damage maybe even some knockdown or knock back. ( if you’ve seen the movie Avatar, you know what I mean).
Disagree. It's a *ranged* blast set. No other blast set has a melee attack. Archers already get the advantage of having brawl use a kick animation so their weapon is still out.

    Quote:
17.) Dump Base rent, it’s dumb.
    Agree.

    Quote:
18.) How about a Dark Astoria Task Force that culminates in the fog being temporarily lifted from the whole zone for the members of the TF only for say, 12hrs?, along with a reobtainable (like Shivans) To Hit or Perception bonus. It’s a beautiful zone, and I bet most players have NEVER seen it.
Agree with the general idea. The details need to be tweaked.

    Quote:
19.) Increase the size of Giant Monsters to GIANT size. I want to see these menaces from half a zone away!, and give ‘em some crazy knock back that sends you flying a couple of blocks away when they whack ya. I’m talking about the scale of the giant mech-man in the Hess Task Force. It shouldn’t be “Where is AV So-N-So?”, it should be “Holy *&%^#$ !! This is gonna be amazing!”
You already have things in the game that are humongous (Hamidon, Rularuu, the Mother ship). I'd say this is unneeded.

    Quote:
20.) Now this one might be controversial but, character’s power should scale with age, I know it kinda does, but what I mean is, a level 50 scrapper that’s got 4 years of crime fighting under his belt should be more powerful that a relative nOOb who’s only been a Hero of the City for 1 year. I don’t know numbers, but say a 1 or 2% increase per month after the 1st year of becoming level 50 would be the best “Veteran Power” benefit I can think of, these percentages could go into a bank that you redistribute to specific attributes of YOUR choosing, ie: Hit Points, Defense, Resist, Mez Protection, To Hit, Recharge, Endurance, you get the idea.
Strongly disagree. And I'm fairly certain I have characters older than you have (unless your registration date doesn't match when you started; I started at retail release despite my Aug 2004 reg date).

I'm opposed to anything more that increases the power gap between veterans and new players largely because it causes many new players to turn away from the game. They figure that since they didn't get in from the beginning, there's no way they can be as powerful as people who started earlier. The recent vet rewards (travel at level 6, removal of fog of war, multiple respecs) already provide substantial advantages for a veteran player. I don't want this gap widened, because I want to see new players encouraged to join up, not give up because they see a power gap they can never attain.

I have a bunch of Crushing Impact and some other useful stuff in the bins. Take em. They're yours if you want them. They're all level 33.

Also, there are far easier ways to challenge yourself if you want that. Want a challenge? Go do a radio mission full of Arachnos +4/x8/bosses yes, and clear it. That's hard for just about anything.

That's great. Here's a bit of SG organizational advice.

    1. Everyone should be able to invite, even the lowest rank. The lowest rank, however, can't kick. Likewise, all ranks should be able to pay SG rent...it's a hassle, and I always appreciate it when someone else does it.

    2. Base editing rights should go to rank 4 and above. Each side should have a designated base architect and at least one assistant. The leaders should of course have full base editing priviledges.

    3. We really should at this point establish a separate SG channel. I've noticed a few times where the group was split between villain and hero side, and sometimes it might be nice to have all of us on one side or the other, especially if you wanted to organize a group push to reach certain prestige goals, etc.

    4. May be nice to identify who's who. I've interacted with Organica, Postagulous, Tidbit, FourSpeed, Fulmens, Hell Jumper and Panzer. I'm sure I've interacted with others, but I still don't know who's who.

    My characters:
Hero side: Furia Fist, level 33 DM/Regen Scrapper - currently trying to beat off Squez for most prestige.

Villain side: Fran Frankenstein, level 23 (and climbing) Bots/Dark MM - current at around 63k prestige, which is the most after our leader who has 400k something.

(btw, if the character has two Fs in the name, it's probably me )

    People I recognize:
Fulmens - E K Nachtmusik and leader toon on Midlevel Crisis (name escapes me atm)
    Tidbit - Riches
    FourSpeed - Needles and Pins
    Organica - Tainted Candy
Postagulous - Betty Forever and I think you have another blaster in there
Panzer - Panzer (that one was easy )
    Hell Jumper - Hell Pscyche

  24. Very well done. I loved how you related the Freedom Phalanx to each particular vice.
  25. One thing that can make it look a little less conspicuous is to disable pictures from showing in your browser. That will at least take care of the big City of Heroes banner on the top and player avatars / banners.

However, I'd recommend you review your work's Internet usage policies. Many work places have enacted Internet filtering programs that not only restrict what you can view but also log your activity. They may already know you spend time looking at the forums. Also, don't think by using a proxy service that you can get around this. (I used to do this for a living btw) That only makes you look more suspicious.

If your work allows you to browse non-work related material while doing your job, I'd still recommend making it clear to your superiors that you do it only during breaks or slow times. Having your boss already know about your browsing behavior will significantly blunt that "surprise" report from the HR department which tells him/her that you're doing non-work related browsing. In economic times like this, it's better to be safe than sorry.
