I know there's the ''Defeat Battle Maiden + Guards + Destroy the weapons'' one but I also saw a ''Save The Village'' which was pretty similar. The only difference is you get to defuse bombs instead of finding a weapon... Any idea of how to get it?
The "Save the Village" mission is part of the Hero's Hero story arc while the other one is just given as a regular 3-part mission. If you've completed the story arc, you will get the other one if you continue doing missions for Maria.

I think what you lack in AOE though (slice is good and whirling sword is not bad, shield charge is pure win though) you more than make up for with top single target damage. I open up on a group with build-up, shield charge, whirling sword and energy torrent (from the body mastery pool, I needed more endurance help) then mop up the bosses with hack, disembowel and headspliter. Nothing is standing after that. Let the sissy AoE farmers cruise on with their +4/X8 slider with no bosses, you can do the same but with bosses and AV's.

Early game broadsword benefits from parry in getting towards that defensive softcap, but later in your build you'll definitely want to respec out of parry in favor of other choices (like those in the epic pools).
My Fire/SD/Blaze has zero problems with bosses. They just melt away. I farm at +3 (sometimes +2)/x8/bosses yes and since I'm frequently helping a bunch of people level (getting from 34 to 35 for instance), I will regularly face mobs with 4-6 bosses in it.

If you stick to 45-50 you miss Miracles, Touch of Death, Decimation, Kinetic Combat, etc. Fortunately the devs started applying weightings to drops to reduce the number of bad recipes. Unfortunately they didn't tell us what those weightings are. So we can't really compute the average value now of a random roll. But I expect it has gone up somewhat, as the Devs likely increased the chance of high demand things, but I don't think there has been a corresponding drop in prices.
That's interesting, so if LoTG +recharges were selling for 80M or more, it's a better rate of return if you go and buy a LoTG and sell it as opposed to doing 10 random rolls. Of course, that's under the old unweighted system.

    Hi Posty,

In answer to some of your questions, both explicit and implied...

    1. No, cashing out reward merits isn't the most optimal way of making influence. Midlevel Crisis and it's villain counterpart is really about making stuff available. Self enrichment is sort of a by product. With that said, both my hero and villain both stand at 200M+ without doing any type of serious marketing and only selling reward drops or drops during missions. If I were set out to just make inf, I wouldn't bother level locking, grabbing merits, etc. Instead I'd farm AE tickets, craft and play the market.

    2. We're level locking largely because while some recipes are plentiful at level 50, they're rare at the midlevels (25-40). Take a look at a set like Scirocco's Dervish. Try to find a Acc/Dmg/End recipe that's in the 30s right now. Chances are, you won't find it. And if there is one, it won't stay on the market for long. Our SG's mission is to help alleviate this shortage somewhat.

    3. We talk about random rolls because from a statical standpoint that's the best way to spend reward merits. When you have a stack of reward merits, you can a) buy a common recipe, inspiration or salvage (most people don't use merits for this); b) use the merits for a specific set IO recipe at the level of your choice; or c) do random rolls, which gives you a pool C (taskforce reward) recipe at your character's level.

Choice b) buying a specific set IO is probably the worst and most expensive choice you can make, since most desirable set recipes cost in the order of 200 - 240 merits or the equivalent of 10 - 12 random rolls. In 10 random rolls, your chances are very good that at least 2 or 3 of the recipes you roll will be good enough to offset the 7 or 8 mediocre or bad ones. You can in turn sell off the 2 or 3 good ones to buy what you really want, or possibly one of the good ones may be the recipe you've been after all along.

Even with single target, it's an irritating power, since it will cause you to have to chase that knocked back mob across the room. Totally don't think it's worth it. It's your toon, but I'd never recommend this power to anyone.

No reason not to take both Phalanx Fighting and Manuevers to boost your defense (and as LotG slots). Additionally Tactics can be slotted with Gausians for the defensive set bonus and the build up proc. Vengeance is another LotG mule and its an amazing buff (a number of times in my experience things went south, team members started dropping, and Vengeance averted a team wipe). I have a shield scrapper with soft capped ranged/melee defense (aoe is close at just over 43%...and if I had the inf for a pvp enhancement I could soft cap aoe). Of course with Phalanx Fighting and just 1 teammate I'm comfortably over the soft cap for ranged/melee and aoe.

Its actually easier to hit the soft cap if you take the Fighting pool powers. But then you have a "wasted" power choice in Boxing/Kick and Tough is just a mule for the Steadfast 3% global defense IO both of which have to be taken to get Weave. However, the defensive bonus from Weave and the IO in Tough get you more defense with less slots than the Leadership pool (of course you dont get the other benefits of either Tactics or Vengeance).

The only reason one would take Grant Cover is for the Defense Debuff Resistance. One is, after all, a Scrapper and not a Defender. I took Leadership on my Scrapper strictly for the benefits to the Scrapper and the effects benefiting teammates were just icing on the cake, so to speak. Unless, obviously, you are teaming on a regular basis with another Scrapper who has also agreed to take Grant Cover so the two of you (or more?) are mutually covered (no pun intended). Without Grant Cover you can get about 30-40% Defense Debuff Resistance from Active Defense and Battle Agility. I regularly run the ITF, with my Shield Scrapper sans Grant Cover, and face massive debuffs from the Cimerorans which I find can be dealt with through the creative use of inspirations and/or a properly equipped teammate.

    Good Luck with your build.
I'd take fighting over leadership on a scrapper any day. A well slotted tough stacks nicely with deflection (or other resistance power) and adds noticeable s/l resistance. If you use it to just mule the Steadfast than I submit that your build isn't really that optimal. Leadership mods for scrappers are awful. The Gaussians can go into build up and shield defense has so many places that it can take a LoTG that you don't need vengeance as a mule power pick.

Also what I don't understand that you advocate using tough to mule a set but at the same time say that boxing is a wasted pick even though it can mule a number of very useful sets, even with just 2 slots.
  10. Didn't look at your build, but I will tell you that torrent from dark mastery is awful. Unlike the version from body mastery that does knockdown, dark mastery torrent does knockback. Some players may like this, but I just found it frustrating and irritating. It will scatter mobs all over the place and pretty much ruin any follow up AoE.
  11. A couple of nights ago, I congratulated a relatively new player (6 month vet) on her very first level 50. While she started a number of different alts, her Rad/Rad defender was the one she fell in love with and played almost exclusively for the last couple of months.

Up to that point, she had done most of the hero side TFs but had yet to try the three of the more popular end game TFs: the Statesman TF, the Imperius TF and the Lady Grey TF. She was eager to try them out, since they represented completely new and unexplored content for her.

Upon reaching 50, some of the comments she made were rather interesting (paraphrasing): "Yay, level 50 at last. Now all I need start farming so I can afford all those IOs." You see, she was under the impression that you had to have IOs to even attempt the end game TFs, and that her mostly SO build would be inadequate.

I tried to tell her otherwise, but she commented that she had seen other Rad defenders and they seem to heal faster, take less damage and have their key debuffs up faster. She remained convinced that a TF team leader would take one look at her character info, see the karma -knockback IO as her only set bonus and kick her off the team. Understand that the player in question also played World of Warcraft for a couple of years and apparently such gear discrimination is a lot more common in that game.

I even told her I'd be happy to start up any TF she wanted, invite good and friendly players and would gladly take her Rad defender. She demurred stating that she'd feel terrible if she "dragged down" the team, and that she'd only join once she was convinced that she could pull her own weight.

So today, she contacted me and asked me how to farm with her new level 50 and asked me for tips on how to leverage the market to get influence quickly. She told me that she had started an electric/shield scrapper, not because she enjoyed playing scrappers, but because they were good farmers. Somehow, this left me a little sad.
  12. You might try posting this in the Mission Architect forum (there's two of them actually, one dealing with technical issues and the other dealing specifically with arcs. Post it in the one talking about story arcs). Also, mission architect is not specific to a server but game wide.

With that said, if your story arc is less than 3 missions (I don't usually have the patience for long arcs), I'll give them a play. I have a thread in the forum requesting such and have been playing any arcs that fit that criteria.
  13. Virtue actually has a high redside population. I think you've just gotten unlucky.

Join one of the global teaming channels and you'll find that a lot more opportunities pop up. Virtue LFG Alpha for example.

I also play on Virtue and if you're online I'll be happy to assist.

The challenge is a bigger factor for me, though, so I rarely play +0x8.
This is pretty much correct. However, for a lot of high octane builds the difference in kill rate for a group of +0 and +2 is almost unnoticeable. Build up + shield charge will kill a group of +2s as easily as it will kill a group of even cons (+0), so you might as well set your difficulty higher and get more inf/prestige per kill.

My preferred settings when farming are +2/x8/bosses yes. My scrapper is capable of farming at higher difficulties but it goes more slowly. +3/x8 is probably the most optimum from a pure influence (only vendoring drops) prespective; however, if you consider that purple drops make up a significant portion of your earnings, you want a difficulty that's fast, and +3 Lts/bosses take more time than I think they're worth.

The stuff that I have listed on villain market in the 20s has sat there for a month, with the odd sale every week or two. The 30-something stuff sells in a couple of days or a week at worst. Is it just me?
I find that the redside stuff just moves more slowly in general unless it's one of the very popular recipes (Miracle/Regen Tissue/Luck of the Gambler/etc).

Some of it may be due to lower population. Another part of it is that some villain players just don't expect that supply will actually be available and therefore they're just conditioned to IO up only until they reach their 40s.

    This ^^

Spiking salvage prices is honestly a huge waste of time for me (and I suspect for most experienced market forum goers). To do well, you have to micromanage it way more than I'd want to, and it can be defeated pretty easily by a patient player who simply bids 1 inf more than your lowball bids that you make to keep up the scarcity.

Completely not worth it. In fact, if I'm feeling spiteful, I will go out of my way to bust these schemes if I see them. I'll check the market every five minutes and slowly creep up the lowball bids, relisting any I get for the lowball price + 2 inf.
  18. I got done with two of Wrong Number's arcs tonight:

    Arc ID#2220 Trademark Infringement
    Arc ID#84420 Death to Disco!

Comments: I enjoyed both, particularly well done were the custom mobs. The mobs in Trademark Infringement in particular were very well balanced and interesting enough that I stopped to check out the info on each of them.

I plan to play anything that's submitted in this thread, so if I haven't gotten to yours yet, don't worry. I will eventually.

Also, as you can tell, I'm far from the harshest critic. If I enjoyed it, I'll give it a 5 star rating. It's as simple as that. I've been playng these arcs for pure entertainment value and haven't been looking at them really critically. However, if you want a more lengthy critique apart from the one liners I've been giving out, let me know.

The bigger issue, though, is that you're talking about player based policing. Not really the right word for it, I think, as that somewhat implies partial mod powers (or higher attention from the mods.) Honestly, how well do you think it would go over if - say - *I* were given that responsibility? (I wouldn't take it, btw. Yes, I *could* do it, and - despite what some may think - do it fairly. But I'm not interested in the least.) But even without that - look at your own words, a compliation of the best suggestions of the week.

How is that standard being met? What makes a "best" suggestion? What makes it into that list? (Plus, honestly, if you're looking for 'no repeats,' I think you'd run out of new lists very, very fast.)

It just seems very... unfeasible, I suppose is what I'm looking for. And it'd just move some of the land mines around, with the mod staff getting pestered because (again, using me as this compiler for an example) "Bill wont' put this in the list because he has something against me/personal bias about the idea/is a stinky doodyhead."

The only way, short of changing people, to change this forum would be to lock it down. Get a list of dev statements on the common topics, have that posted. Have set threads (like Jay's costume request thread) on each common topic (server merge, market caps, vehicles... I'm sure we can rattle off pretty much the same list without thinking much about it) and delete any new thread that comes up about them, directing the poster to post there, doing the same with rants (including walls of text.)

And I think that'd kill the forum all together, frankly.
Point about stickies is well taken.

As for who decides what's the "best ideas", what about voting? If an idea garners a lot of posters who agree with the idea or react positively then it makes the best idea of the week thread. Sure, you can game this by having a bunch of your friends vote for you idea, etc. but that only gets the idea submitted into the compiled thread. It's up to the developers to take such submissions seriously. Also, if it was known that such a thread were taken seriously by the development team, I think a counter force would develop that would try to prevent such manipulations.

As for who compiles, I think it just comes down to someone willing to put the effort into compiling it. If the compiler has a lot of favoritism then I think the forum will expose it.

I guess I'm convinced that the paranoia of forum goers can be a positive force for such an effort as much as it could hinder it.

Also, I agree that locking it down would probably kill this forum; however, right now, it wouldn't be a big loss aside from the fact that it keeps a certain amount of nerdrage away from the General forum.

The Suggestions & Ideas forum is one of the more heated places to go because it's a trial by fire; as it should be.

People can and WILL deconstruct your idea down to the bare fundamentals, take the idea's biggest flaw and insecurity, and shine the world's brightest spotlight on it until someone suggests a change that makes it more tolerable.

Why? Because CoH is a great game, and we don't want to see the developers taking on every half-thought decision by someone who never bothered to think about AT balance, or otherwise.

As for Stickies? This forum has a whoooole bunch. Guess how many people typically read? Do you think that number would improve if there were more? Of course not. People would rather ask for forgiveness than permission.

My personal beef, however, lies in the attitude of many players, who are so very against any change to pre-existing content whatsoever; a small change to a costume piece is enough to cause some uproar in the community, and that, to me, is ridiculous. I'd love to see a big attitude adjustment, but it's not exactly my place to ask for such a thing.
All of the forums are public, but none of them are frankly as bad as this one. What you call 'trial by fire', I call a license to flame, troll and engage in petty little ego wars. I see far more of that than true deconstruction of ideas down to their fundamentals.

I also agree that CoH is a great game, but at the same time it is my *opinion* that this forum, which exists supposedly as a feedback forum, serves no purpose whatsoever in its current form.

Your point about stickies is well taken.

As for the attitude of the player base, I somewhat agree with you. There are far too many sacred cows.
  21. Had enough time tonight to finish these:

Arc ID#1526 by @Leese, The Best Radio Mission Ever
Comments: It plays like a radio mission though honestly I'm not a huge fan of hunt the glowie type missions only because sometimes they're hard to find and I play with the sound down really low. However, this was a fun mission. I did enjoy the other parts including arresting the customers.

Arc ID#338380 by @PW, Talos Vice
Comments: Loved the second mission. It's almost calls for a special costume for your character to look the part. Libby dancing away for college money was a nice and very funny surprise.

Arc ID#1388 by @PW, Celebrity Kidnapping
Comments: Urgh! I failed the last mission, but that's a good thing. The thing that I dislike about many missions in this game is that they're a foregone conclusion. I got distracted by Amanda Vines at the last part and didn't have the situational foresight to see where Paris was. Enjoyed it.

Next up, the arcs by @Wrong Number and @Coulomb2
  22. Whenever I want to witness forum drama, the Suggestions and Ideas forum never seems to disappoint. While there are a number of good ideas that are presented daily, they seem to get drowned in a sea of posts that repeat oft mentioned suggestions, contain terrible suggestions that are poorly thought out or posts that are just nerdrage vents from frustrated or angry players.

I often think that this forum exists solely to keep such trash out from the General forum. This forum could be a lot better.

I've often thought that this forum could do with a bit of player based policing. Not the type where players didactically cite forums rules, but where players put together a stickied guide for how to make a good suggestions and perhaps put together a weekly compilation of the best suggestions submitted. I think something like that would be far more useful to our dev and community relations team than going through hundreds of threads or adjudicating pissing matches that seem to occur far more frequently than they should.

I'm by no means an expert on forum moderation or on what constitutes a good suggestion; however, I think that this forum could be potentially a good resource and I hate seeing it squandered.

So fellow players, how do we make this forum better?
