What *is* 100% is that you will always be waiting for one person....That is the one single thing that is guaranteed to happen.....15 of 16 ready....23 of 24 ready....there's *always* one. It's like some twisted Highlander thing

The runs I've been on where the leader bothered with a team for adds (most just let them come to be burned down en masse) it was usually team 2 or 3. Like I said, I don't think this bit of data has filtered through the general playerbase.
-
What also helps is going for the badges; you get a component drop when you get a badge...they're not that much harder than the normal strategies with a full league at this point...at least in the BAF. Strong and Pretty (kill all adds before downing the paired AVs) might be the hardest and that's just a matter of coordination.
I've no idea how you're supposed to burn down Marauder without the grenades in 18 minutes on Lambda. -
I don't think the fact that the kill contributions are team-based and not league-wide has filtered through to the general (non-forums) playerbase yet. I've mentioned it a couple of times in leagues today, but as I wasn't the big star holder, I don't think anyone was paying attention.

Get lucky with the completion rewards tables and what grind there is vanishes into nothingness. My main (who oddly enough is behind my crab) is sitting on 3 uncommons (still unlocking lore) and I've got the t4 components for 2 of the trees i'm going down.

Quote:It is rather odd...you'd think he had some kind of stock market "i bet it fails" type of thing going on. I could *almost* see this amount of interest in the movie if that was the case, or if he was a studio head who had passed on the project...but to continually search out other people's opinions on a movie he hasn't seen almost borders on the fetishisiticYes there are things such as emoticons and I use them to my liking. o.O
And it's just kind of a funny that you've washed your hands of this thread a few times yet feel the need to come back and mount a case against the film that appears to be based entirely on the thoughts and reactions of others over and over again. -
They drop everything they should, as near as I can tell. Recipes, insp, salvage, enhs, and threads. Got a hecatomb on my crab the other day.
You're only getting kill credit from things your team (kills aren't league-wide, in other words) is involved in killing from what I understand. Which is why if you split teamwise on the lambda sabotage stage, no one on the acid team would get a grenade drop, or if one team is dealing with adds while the other two focus on the AVs, that team will get more ixp and chances at threads. -
Quote:The perfect analogue to a team comic going through this would be a, well, a really tight RP superteam. They handle all their character development, and the devs are just there to throw mechanical challenges at them with a bit of story. It's not really fair to expect any more from the them than that for a couple of one-shot events. (yes i know we're repeating them ad infinitum atm, but they're just parts of the overall story...tie-ins to the crossover, if you will) How one feels about Cole or the story itself is subjective...I'm sure there are people that would be equally displeased with a Darkseid or a Thanos. In a team book, it's about the individual members coming together as part of the team. Do you really think anyone would care about the Justice League if it was all D-listers, with no character development beyond "these guys all fought this bad guy?"
When it's about ALL the teams, it's really not. It's about the event. That's what we're getting here. It's not about us anymore, it's about the Praetorian invasion and about Cole. If it was a comic book, that might work, because sometimes people want to read about the villain (albeit a more interesting one than Cole), but in an MMO that is so character-focused, not so much.
I dunno...my main point is that you don't look to the crossover event for the character development. That's all done in the regular series. The events are about the events, and in that situation, maybe you turn down you "i'm a unique snowflake" dial a bit, and join the team for the big win -
Quote:Maybe the fact that I actually took the time to make a reasoned argument which was met with "lol its your fault lol" perhaps? I had the mistaken impression that Valgrisk was genuinely interested in an argument on the subject, when he was clearly interested in telling me how much I'm wrong. I know, stupid me. Why do I let that surprise me any more.
Because, after all, MMOs can never make us feel like the protagonist of the show like City of Heroes story arcs do, no sir! And, as we all know, City of Heroes was most certainly not an MMO before it got end game, so that statement remains true - no MMO can make any one single player feel special without doing so at the expense of other people on the team. That'd be just silly.
After all, what did I expect? That people would care to actually read what I wrote and make a reasoned argument based on how it relates to game precedent and personal opinion? Yes, I clearly have a lot to learn. Why bother with such a thing when you can just handwave another person's argument AOL speak and basically laugh in his face. That's so much easier and takes so much less effort to put together. Why can't I ever think to do something like that, myself?
See, even now that I'm writing unnecessary snark and needless sarcasm, I can't keep myself from looking for an actual argument to tie into my mess of a post. Why can't I simply respond with a Golden Girl one-liner? It'd be just as insulting to people's intelligence while requiring far less work.
Your needless snark and sarcasm aside, you'll note my use of the term "sometimes". In an MMO *sometimes* individual glory takes a backseat to the team. Just like *any* human endeavor that involves more than one person. Sure, I could try to take that game winning shot at the buzzer from 10 feet behind the 3 point line with a defender in my face..I make that shot, and I'm awesome!...but there's my open teammate who's 15 ft closer. An assist that gets us a tie is better than my game-winner getting blocked.
Personally, when I'm on a team, I feel special when *we* win, because I know I had a part in that. And my main is mechanically one of the most replaceable components of any team he's on.
Either you're the type that groks that, or you're not. There's no argument that can be made to convince someone of it..it's something that one has to experience and understand on their own. -
What argument is there to be made? You dislike something that is pretty much inherent in both the MMO genre and the Superhero Universe genre. Sometimes, it's about one hero, but other times, it's about the team, and sometimes it's about ALL the teams.

Quote:Earning one of the badges within the trials grants a 1 time component drop. Was that the first time for that toon, i.e. tied to a badge? I wasn't paying too much attention to when those random drops were happening, but the only time I observed one was on a badge. I also noticed that I stopped getting those random drops after I'd collected most of the badges (along w/the extra Astral drops).
-
For the most part, I'm fine with randoms. All the preforms I've been on have been the open casting-call style; ie, respond to announcement, get on team, team fills, trial starts. The main problem with letting the turnstile handle the teambuilding is that it starts the trial as soon as it has the minimum for the task at hand. Lambda with 8 random people gets really tricky during the sabotage stage.
If you were with a hand-picked 8 people, sure, or the max 16 and random, sure, no problem. But 8 random people, with random ATs...not so much. -
Alignments have no bearing on anything as far as Incarnates go. The BAF/Lambda trials are straight up co-op content a'la the ITF, or the Mothership Raid.

Quote:This hasn't been my experience on Virtue at all. The extent of recruitment for trials has been someone saying "BAF/Lambda league forming, PST" in a few channels and then inviting whoever responded. I've yet to have league formed in that manner fail, and in one BAF, we missed the MO badge because there were still a couple of adds still alive when the last AV went down. What I would like to know is how people are unlocking Judgement....and others so fast?
I have ran both Lambda 5 times all failed and BAF 3 times failed and still an average of 7% on Judgement and 56% complete on the other to unlock. I dont mind the "grind" but what I dont like, same as most of the post's i've been reading is there is no other way to get IXP. The shards really dont help as much if you dont have the "disposable income" that other toons have. I enjoy soloing in this MMO, its a nice break from waiting for teams or constant "afk" during missions.
Im not sure how "MrLiberty" can say to us who do solo that "....we are doing it wrong!" I can't spend hrs sitting grinding away when work and life call, but that shouldn't prevent us who want to reach that Incarnate level from getting there. My main has Alpha T4 and it was not a grind just play content here and there and before i knew it all was unlocked. I dont have the time to sit for hours like some do and getting the new powers hours after launch. There needs to be a way for the casual players to get IXP without having to dedicate the time we do have to play to finding and waiting for teams to form. I have to say 75% is waiting for the team to form because the leader is waiting for people they want to join instead of taking those who are willing to play now.
I'm not saying that more choices wouldn't be welcome (and they're coming), but if you don't have the time to team, or insist on soloing, you can't expect to get the same rewards in the same time frame as the people that can devote hours at a time.
And rather than wait on someone to form a team, take the initiative and do it yourself. Invite the first 16/24 people that respond (lambda's much easier with the full 16) I can almost guarantee you'll get someone who does know the trial if you don't and you'll get decent advancement on filling your slots. -
Pretty much. The order of events on the BAF is kill 40, fight Nightstar, contain the escapees, fight Siege, then defeat Nightstar and Siege within 10 seconds of each other.
While the most common strategy on the BAF is to fight them on the tennis courts, there is a badge for fighting Nightstar and Siege where they spawn, instead of pulling them to the turrets blindspot
Also, the threads->iXP conversion depends on which slot you're unlocking. Judgement and Interface are about 3%, Lore and Destiny are about 2%.
And Posi did say there'll be other things to use Astral Merits for, but currently, just for threads. -
Quote:I haven't I've been on a failed preformed league since beta, (my crab's at 3 T3 and one t2 slotted) and the extent of the recruiting has been "BAF/Lambda forming, PST". The individual team leads can invite, but generally there's no need. The league lead does invites, shuffles people around so things are balanced if the league's going to be splitting (lambda stage 3, or getting the BAF defeat condition badges) but, generally it's been first come first served, at least on Virtue.I see. So forming a league makes more sense to recruit good team leads into each group, and then get their help with recruiting the members they need. Does that make sense?
Question: Are the team leads in a league able to perform their own invites, or is everything vetted through the league leader?

Quote:I'm fairly certain the system doesn't give a crap about what AT you are.
My Fire/Kin Controller was put on a BAF with all Scrappers, Tankers, and Blasters (I was the only one that wasn't). From the dozen+ other runs I've done, it just seems to put those that are available on it... Also, heals suck.
And just so you know, emps and the like will not help with the warnings that Siege and Nightstar do- after the third one you're hit with a five thousand mag mez (actually, over 5k), as well as all those that are around you. That's most likely the issue you were facing.
This is just like all the other top-level TF/SFs they've put in the game... at first people would fail spectacularly, and after people learned wtf you're supposed to do, people now PuG them all the time at times that'd rival the 'speed' runs upon release.
The LFG system could use some improvements (such as being more willing to put you on existing teams if you click that button), but IMO it's a great start.
Right. The Turnstile doesn't care who it shoves into a trial, just that they indicated they wanted to do one. The biggest problem with it currently, from my experience, is that it attempts to start as soon as it has the trial's minimum. Combine that with not caring about AT composition makes things much harder. Now add to both of those handicaps the fact that it's less likely that you've got experienced participants queuing up...
As experience with the trials propagates through the community (since knowing what to do is the most important aspect of these) these problems will lessen, but I think making the thing wait longer than "minimum members met" would help some. -
Quote:I'd also be fine with that, since the turnstile works that way...but I think a central location (maybe with a portal to praertoria) would help with immersion. This is a helpful idea, but I think what they really need to do is to find a way to allow the trial to start when everyone is in a different zone.
If they can whip up a Trial Staging area in the meantime, that would be great, but I think their long term goal should be to eliminate the requirement to be in the same zone. -
-
Probably a good idea...I've seen people setting up as deep as Cim the other day...although the Midnighter's Club is seeing heavy usage as well now. But purpose built zone wouldn't interfere with any other content.

Ah, that's another problem, that's still mostly under the hood. I rarely pay attention to how much relative damage my attacks are doing from mob to mob. I know my heavy hitting attacks vs my lighter attacks, but exactly *how* much damage it's doing from enemy group to different enemy group....eh.
Obviously, after 7 yrs here, (and a lifetime of gaming in general) I'm aware of who's got what resistances to what attacks, but that's so way in the back of my head during normal gameplay as to not even matter. -
There's one bit i don't get. Yeah, the Cryo judgement does cold damage. The only real way of knowing that if you've recolored it is to look under the hood at the combat spam. Theres nothing about what is displayed that screams out "lookie! it's cold damage!" unless one of them has a block of ice hold proc (i'm not sure, not looking at cryo for my incarnates)...and if so, don't get that one. You could totally pass off recolored cryo as flechette shards or someother non-elemental shrapnel attack.

Well, what if (huge if here, and I'd be shocked if they thought this deep into it, so bear with me) the ancient pantheons of gods were previous champions of the Well. A key component in those gods' power was the worship of mortals. Without that worship, they kinda went away. Perhaps that's the way the Well is working through Cole, and since he's the full on champion he has more insight as to how the Well "works" unlike States and Recluse. So he's doing whatever he can to maintain the adoration of his people. Without it, perhaps the Well would drop him. *shrug*
