Quote:Vaporized? That's just... *snf* beautiful.
Fulmens should be happy to know that 1.2 Billion in listing fees have been evaporated into the Ether. I'm just happy that I can burn 1.2 Billion and giggle like mad about it nowadays.
I only burnt up about 50M in listing fees. Unless you count the ten 2-billion-inf Luck Charms I put up that one time. I may not relist those immediately. -
Like any other basic business scenario, where you can charge a 400% markup and nobody blinks...
-
My old standbys were endmod/endred (same memorization badge, bonus!) at 35 and 40, and rechred, 35 and 40.
Goes to show, lotta niches and a lot of ways to not step on people's feet. -
If you've got deep enough pockets and it looks like a real case of underpricing, just buy up your competition. ("underpricing" in this ccase meaning "less than half the retail crafting cost")
-
Sold the Steadfast -KB for 8.5 M (not the 10 I expected... mumble mumble clever bidders) and the Reactive for 30M (listed for 20.1 million or something).
After cancelling my bids I have 105 million.
Experiment over! -
Got my reactive armor listed, bought/crafted/listed a Touch of Death acc/dam for very small inf, sold my Gift of the Ancients [the reasonably-priced one]. 59 M cash.
-
Nobody's brought up that at low HP, /SR has moderate resistance? Huh.
-
I HAVE gone "dog in a manger" on one name. It's my RL email account. I have that name on every US server.
-
Update: my "buy for under 10, sell for 50" niche collapsed before I got anything sold. Now they're selling for 20 M- I can live with that. I relisted one of them [hey, you don't know]. Sold a steadfast KB protection for 10 mil [2.2 mil costs], a regenerative tissue heal/end/rech for 10 mil [2.5 mil costs]. So I'm around 42M cash.
... 31 M cash. Reactive Armor has a nice "buy for 11M, sell for 20-40M" niche depending on my patience. I have between 60M and 100M in sales waiting [I don't think that 40M will sell, but it might] and a few million in bids other than that Reactive Armor.
ed: played a little while, my Performace Adjuster sold for 22 m, cost around 8M. -

Crank up your personal ranged and AOE defense to be nearly as good as the rest of the team.
I've tried a number of other things and none of them worked out for me nearly as well as that.
Vengeance would be, in my experience, a wasted power choice. -
I'm going with the 8 syllable thing myself.
I tried to start a federally-based superhero game once, where I rationalized the naming convention as "callsigns". I told my players "Try to think of something that you could shout across a crowded barfight. " I then added the "$name, duck!" suggestion. For instance:
RIGHT: "Iceman, duck!"
ALSO RIGHT: "Boltcutter, duck!"
WRONG: "Apocalyptic Drooling Spawn of The Great Iguana, duck!" -
If you really don't want to flip or craft or whatever, that's a perfectly valid way to play. I just figured I'd tailor my advice to your comfort level.
You probably HAVE all my marketing advice, already, though. It's not that deep. And Going Rogue is going to create a lot of chaos so my specific advice (there's embarassing amounts of money crafting purples, don't check anything except the top level of a given recipe, etc.) may become irrelevant.
I repeat my advice: check some short Ouro arcs out, maybe with a friend or two- I remember the Tsoo Shenanigans being really good for one of my characters, but I don't remember which character or what made it so good for them. Hand of Iron's pretty quick. Whatever works for you. -
There are a bunch of new hall of fame and dev's choice AE arcs. Many, it probably goes without saying, are quite good.
-
Put up three of last night's recipes. Found and listed a Steadfast +KB protection at a bargain price [buy for 2 million, list for 10.2, should sell for 15] .
Crafted a few L20 items for myself. -
And the miracles (5 million each) and Doctored Wounds (18 million each) sold. I'm up to 56 million.
Normally I'd look for things that I can spend 5-10 million on and sell for 20-30 at this point. But paying about 2 million to Wents, 2 million in costs, and pocketing 14 million on those Doctored Wounds... I'm going to go for two more of those, and look for something else in case those don't pay out.
EDIT: I found two things- one with a 15 million+ estimated payout, and one which I should be able to buy for under 10 million (recipe, crafting and salvage) and sell for near 50 million - 5 million to Mr. Wentworth, 10 million in parts and crafting, and 35 million to me. I was wrong; there ARE things out there with better payouts than those Doctored Wounds. -
Filled: Miracle End/Heal/Rech for 100K and salvage for 1.1 million [+200K crafting], Miracle End/Heal for 1.3 million [+200K crafting], Doctored Wound for 1.3 million [+500K crafting]. It's nice to be at the point where I don't have to care about buying 50K inspirations or salvage.
-
If I'm PO'd about something, and the rest of the team has also just gone to the hospital and I have about 60 seconds before they notice I'm late... yeah, I'll bid half a million for a large inspiration. I got to show back up with an unfair advantage NOW. Ya know?
-
Everything did indeed sell. I got a Doctored Wounds Heal/Rech for about 1.3 million, crafted for .5 million, listed just over 12 million (last 5 were 16-20 million.) I'm sitting on 20 million. Rar.
-
How anti-marketing are you? Usually people use marketeering to mean "buy [possibly craft] and resell" but some people are so anti-marketing they don't want to roll random, craft, and sell.
Merits ARE available through Ouro. You can start new characters on Freedom and Virtue and see which one sticks. (When I make up a new character and get them to 33 through TFs and roll all my randoms, I make about 300-500 million. That may change utterly with Going Rogue, though.) -
Possible scenario:
I played some of my characters in public at Comic-con a couple years ago. If someone videotaped that [say for a news show] and showed, I dunno, Boltcutter on TV, NCSoft better have the rights to broadcast Boltcutter. (The only person I remember playing was Boom Baby, who's been renamed since due to a server move.) -
You might want to develop your own group of merry irregulars. Even two or three people is [to me] way more fun than just one, and you can do short Ouro arcs while you're building up your contact list.
/gfriend is a grand tool.
What IS your current server, by the way? -
I think we've been seeing a large number of "please stay with our game" moves over the last couple years- more ways of getting recipes, faster levelling 10-20 and 40-50, less debt [that may predate the "last couple years" actually], more starting attacks, more ways of skipping travel time, AE ("the badguys will jump down your throat and you don't have to go anywhere") , doubled inf for 50's, temp powers that cover even MORE possible holes in your character, etc. etc. etc.
I'm inclined to think this (well, the "balance point" on this) is one more giveaway. I could be wrong, though; it's happened before and will happen again. -
I'm actually in the "give him the benefit of the doubt" (or enough rope to hang himself) camp. I mean, I'm running a no-picture, take-my-word-for-it thread right now...
