Well, our LAST sg, Viva Las Vegas, has lasted about five years. So, somewhere between "as long as it takes to get benefactors" and five years.
-
This game is ... relatively... balanced. There are better DPS combos than a Fire/Elec blaster- but I haven't played them.
The downside is that Blasters (fire/elec especially) have a primary that's all offense and a secondary that's NEARLY all offense. The upside is that you can drop 20 enemies in less than 10 seconds if you do it right. Not grey-cons either, +1 or +2's .
To clarify what I mean by "downside", you are six times squishier than a scrapper with about 30% more damage. I'm willing to take that tradeoff, but you may not be.
(Also, as people may have said, "your debuffs drop" really means "your enemies drop". ) -
I didn't see DOOOOM coming, but I feared it anyway. I didn't see a LOT of things coming that were obvious to other people, or obvious after the fact...

Yup. We're an evil conspiracy with a loudspeaker and WE WILL NOT BE SILENCED!!!

OK, there's a new SG base starting on Guardian. To avoid the slight inconvenience of not having everything we want right away, I'm planning on starting in the Guardian Top 100 before the first person earns a single Prestigium. YOU can have YOUR NAME on the Loyal Opposition MoTD, for as long as the SG lasts! All your characters who join will have the special rank, "Benefactor".
I'm selling five spots on the MoTD at a billion inf (2 million prestige) each. Two of them are already taken by benefactors who may, or may not, choose to reveal themselves.
I'm limiting this to five because that's about how many things the average person can keep in their head. . . and because I only need about five billion inf to hit the top 100.
Go ahead. Make a donation, and let us know which room you want named after you.
(Loyal Opposition is not a non-profit organization for tax purposes. )
Major funding for Loyal Opposition has been provided by:

There was, at one point last weekend, a "last 5" for the crafted and the recipe where something like 8 of the 10 total bids were over 500 million. I looked at the crafted, went "I could make money on that!", looked at the recipe, said "No I couldn't!"
In other news, the 4th out of 6 of my Hecatomb stocks (about 3 of each IO going into GR, all listed at 301M) have sold out. I think that means Hecamage/Endurance is going to be WELL over 300M this weekend, now that my buffer is gone. The other two probably won't ever break 300M, but it doesn't hurt anything to leave 'em up a while longer.

OK. InsanityPeak this week, Marsha Mallow next week then i'm shutting down shop for a little while.

Turbo: We're not communicating.
My argument is "Gee, late-game Blasters get really good value from Force Fields, because it makes them five to ten times tougher and provides mez protection, so they don't go dying all over the place. " Your argument is... I'm not even sure right now.Would you provide a one sentence summary of your position vis-a-vis our discussion? -
A little off topic...
As I recall, if you're on a level 50 the "true" inf: prestige rate is around 250:1 (that is, out of Sg mode you make 500x, in SG mode you make 250x). How much lower can the inf: prestige rate go without actively punishing people for playing "something in SG mode" instead of "level 50s hunting cash?"
As far as inf supply reduction, they've put a new one in with Hero Merits. I don't know how much it will accomplish- there's an awful large backlog to get through.
Back on topic: 200M or so left. Anyone? -
Would heffroncm be ebil enough to mail that to HIMSELF? [herself, itself, whateverself]

Weekends have more chaos- I get more big sales AND more low bids filling on weekends. People show up Friday night, go "Doh! I didn't buy my newt eyeballs!" and throw money at the problem. Other people go "I got my newt eyeballs at level 33 AND 34!" and sell the extra.
I used to think there was a nice spike on Friday and Sunday nights with deep valleys during prime time as people throw stuff at Wents in a hurry. Now I'm not sure, but since the stuff sits around in its market slot the whole weekend, it doesn't really matter WHEN people throw money and/or recipes at me. -
I'm guessing it will have a chance to heal you every time it fires.
I have absolutely no evidence or knowledge to back up that guess! This is how I got my post count, yes. -
Some of 'em are over 400 million, or they were this weekend.
(I saw one of em stay around 600M for a while. Apoc triple, maybe?) -
Some other important questions:
How squishie do you want to be? (I love my Fire/Elec blaster, but she breaks VERY easily. )
How long are you willing to wait to become mighty? (Rad/Sonic defender is very good by level 12; Invuln/Superstrength tank can be slow till level 38.)
I'm going to throw out a handful of suggestions. I don't play Controllers, but they're quite powerful (slow starters, I understand.)
DEFENDER: Rad or Dark primary. Secondary, much more flexible (Sonic, Psi are my preferences.)
BLASTER: Fire/Ice, Sonic/Mental, or Energy/Energy. I love Fire/Elec (or Fire/Energy) but they get very nervewracking in the upper levels and you can easily get a deathapalooza.
SCRAPPER: Any/nearly any. Dark Armor is probably not for the novice. Not a lot of ranged attacks in any scrapper.
TANK: I've only played Ice and Invuln tanks. Both have very strong points. Again, not much ranged, and they have a tendency to be understrength on damage and overstrength on defense when soloing. (ie you only die of boredom.)
VILLAIN: Nearly any Brute (I'd avoid Electric Armor, Energy Armor and Dark Armor). The "opposite" of the Defenders for Corruptors, so a Sonic/Rad corr instead of a Rad/Sonic defender [or maybe a Fire/Dark corr]. Stalkers are not inherently beloved of teams. I don't have much Dominator experience, but it may work well for what you want- bit squishie, though. I also don't have much Mastermind experience. -
Quote:So 14% smash/lethal res (approximately 7% longer lifespan in the endgame) compares to 45% Defense (approximately 900% longer lifespan in the endgame).Explain to me first how +res doesn't make blasters less squishy since I wasn't even referring to +Def specifically in that rebuttal but damage mitigation as a whole instead.
OK, even leaving Body Armor out of it, Blasters get 31% res to Smash, Lethal, and Fire in Flame Mastery. Good thing they've got Rise of the Phoenix. -
We could start a new "We hate the new interface" thread!
I still hate it. I've learned some strange workarounds, like NEVER turning off the "Are you sure?" button. I think I've been trained like one of Skinner's pigeons to do things in a peculiar order to avoid losing money, but it's still broken and wrong.
(I believe they've changed SOME of the "autofill" functionality, and one or two other things, so improvements are possible.)
... one thing they broke recently was that for sale/bidding lists one way in the bottom window, and "find" gives you the same info upside down. So changes are being made. Wasn't someone running a unified buglist? -
... they're freeing up three power slots real soon now. Gonna take 'em back?
-
Far as I'm concerned, farmers are people who beat the game, then went back and lowered the difficulty... "You are not WORTHY to farm" is a very odd attitude.
I'm not sure you're picking a good spot to be elitist, Donna. -
I thought about respeccing out of Inferno on one of my Blasters (fire/en/elec) on the grounds that I did basically the same damage (eg dead minions, near dead lieuts, annoyed bosses) with firebreath, fireball, static discharge.
Then I ran into a situation where I had a large-team spawn to the left of the doorway and another one to the right, and I needed BOTH the aoes AND inferno.

I'm a terrible tank, even playing a tank, using Taunt, running around like an idiot going tab/punch/tab/punch .
I don't like aggro control as a tactic, and haven't since well before I tanked first-hand. It's fine partial mitigation, but not something I like to depend on. Of course, my dream team is one force fielder, one "any other support or tanking", four blasters and pick two of anything else. It's pretty foolproof and works like Piranha Bath... you feed in enemies and they dissolve as they hit the 80-foot line. -
I'd put one small note on your experiments, Misaligned: Level 50 characters make "max level" recipes- level 40 Impervium Armors, level 35 kinetic combats, level 30 Steadfasts, etc. There's often a tighter supply of non-50 max level recipes, while still having a reasonable throughput. I think there's more money there than at 50, but there's plenty of money everywhere anyway...
Ed. my market signature is 908. I'm the only one using it that I know of. -
That's interesting, you can balance it so it doesn't do ... whatever the devs don't want done short of purples... you can provide intriguing cross-function (Sister Psyche might go with both Manticore and Aurora Borealis?) - generally nifty idea.
Clarification- did you mean "slotted in the same power?" or "Slotted anywhere on the character?" Because if you have a "Better lucky than Smart " set and it works well with Luck of the Gambler, that's a synergy to watch out for. -
