  1. I'm going to put that Kinetic Combat down to the "list for a penny" effect.

Have you noticed that you've popped any price bubbles?

They kicked it up from 7, at least...
  3. It's mad science: there are no failures, only exciting and unexpected results!

    Ok,

    Tedium?

Let's pretend for a moment that you cannot live a rich and full life without this, the most-coveted shiny in the game.

There are at least four ways to get the item in question*. You've picked one you don't like and you are refusing to change. How smart does that make you?

*PVP, make cash and buy it outright, earn AMs through tip missions, earn RMs and turn them into AMs. Another way of slicing the apple is "PVP, marketeer/farm, hoard AMs, make AM's and cash them in as you go." Either way.

    Ok,

galadiman: I don't think of it as "two IO's that do the same thing, only one is 30 times as expensive as the other." I think of it more like "Your second LoTG: Recharge costs 30 times as much as your first." If you only need one, it's really cheap. You need a second one? That's going to cost you.

Noyjitat: I've got an idea. It involves a new type of salvage, that you can turn into Alignment Merits!

    ...no?
  6. My theory is that the Devs didn't want people frankenslotting targeted AOE to get an attack chain of something like Fireball-Firebreath-Fireball-Firebreath.

This does not explain why they made perma-Hasten acheivable, with enough hundreds of millions of inf. It's not a perfect theory.

    Ok,

Myrmidon: Do you understand the difference between "I disagree with you" and "You are making your argument poorly?"

    You're making your argument poorly.

    For instance,
    Quote:
this is the kind of behavior the current system promotes.
Actually, before AM's, this [AFK PVP farming] was the only way to GET PVP IO's. This is the kind of behavior the previous system promoted.

    Quote:
That would be the completely "ridiculous" way to do so, yes.
    Quote:
I bet there would be more joy if they made the system better than what we have now.
    Quote:
    You're drinking the Kool-Aid
What do these three quotes have in common? None of them give anyone the slightest reason to change their mind. You could replace each of them with
    Quote:
I disagree, and so do all right-thinking people
    and not remove ANY information.

Go ahead. Explain why the rarest thing in the game should become dramatically easier to acquire. For extra credit, explain why the last thing they did to make it easier (in inf terms, AM's dropped the price from around 3.5-4 billion to 2.5 billion) was not nearly enough.
  8. Post: Make a new character! There's nothing quite like being level 1 with millions of prestige.
  9. Fulmens

    Ok,

Myrmidon: Your problem, as stated, would also be solved if they took out the ability to buy PVP IO's with A-merits altogether.

    Discuss.
  10. OK, we made the top 100 within three hours of forming the SG.

Our engines run on 196 proof influence. We've jammed a stick on the accelerator and tied the steering wheel. Who will stop us on our mad race to the #1 position?

Currently in the headlights: Nexus of Eternity .
  11. Aaaand we're #100. In the first 3 hours.

    Edit: 65,116,992 prestige.

And I let people know we're coming.
  12. You don't have to throw inf away to JOIN, just to get promoted.
  13. What willowpaw said is ... variable. Some purple sets can be that inexpensive. Others (the desireable ones, so probably what you were looking for) are much, much more expensive. Might cost as much as 8 AM's worth of other recipes.
  14. We're on Freedom. With a 20 billion head start from Black Mute. I couldn't say no to that.
  15. So. I'm bored. And I have a couple billion spare inf. I'm sure I'm not the only one. If I start a branch office of the Crazy 88s on another server, who's with me?
  16. I think the OP is doing pretty well- maybe not perfectly optimal use of AM's but not, like, off by a factor of 10.

On the list of "potential sale items", most of them have been mentioned. It's worth looking at (I haven't checked lately) minimum level travel stealth IO's.

Edit: "most of the ones I KNOW" have been mentioned.

Not saying its right or wrong just pointing out the disparity that exists.
You can spend 1 A-merit on a Kinetic Combat Dam/End, or you can spend it on Winged Boots. You can spend 540 tickets on an Empowered Sigil or Enriched Plutonium.

Where, I ask you, is the justice in letting stupid people do stupid things?
  18. I did get an answer once from Castle about Calibrated Accuracy (all accuracy, all the time, and about 40% Damage), to the effect of "It was like that when I got there." I don't know if that really narrows things down, though.
  19. I think the standard is "give it five days". If not, I just made up a standard.

Then you can spend the inf with a clean conscience.

Besides, if you buy and sell enough, you'll be on the other side of that transaction someday. (I'm looking at my own, recently acquired, very very special, set of three 21-million-inf Deific Weapons. They're WORTH more than yours. They're BETTER.) It all works out eventually.

Next, I have fill out all of my builds too. I just have too much. I'm clearing my queues before I play and I getting rewarded for my diligence but this stuff is now starting to eat in my gaming time. Maybe I should just delete these and move on. I never thought I would just throw things away but my time is just so valuable now. I'm sick of dealing with the maintenance stuff. I subscribe to "Play" CoH not bean count.
One thing which may/may not help: Don't list items AT the "last 5" prices or they will never sell [even if prices don't go down; and prices, mostly, do go down on a month-to-month schedule.] For instance, looking at Positron's Dam/End at level 50, they typically sell for 10 million. I _list_ them at a hair over 8 million, but people _spend_ 10 million*. If you listed at 10 million you'd come back day after day, week after week and watch people spend 10 million on "not your IO". So those Apocalypses might be overpriced even if they're at or near the last 5 prices.

Getting back to the month-to-month thing: Prices tend to go on a sawtooth: something happens like I18 or a double XP weekend or something, and prices shoot way up. Then supply slowly catches up to demand and prices come down over the next month or so. Then additional supply comes in and prices come down even farther. I could give examples of this by going through my stock of stuff that was listed below market price and has been swept away by recent crashes. (Regenerative Tissue: +Regeneration, listed at 81 million, expected to get 100 to 150 million, market thinks it's worth 40 million.)

    * Right now they're actually spending 8 million. So it goes.
  21. I agree that Run IO's seem to be your best bet in the travel powers. (level 50 End Red and Run use the same salvage, and I often made more on the Run IOs than the EndReds.) For mez, I don't remember ever finding one worth selling.
  22. 1) Start a new character, optionally on another server. Drop the least -loved thing you have in global email on them.
    2) Try and figure out why you have so much stuff; are you afraid that you'll sell something and need to buy it back? Did you just get crazy on crafting? Are you listing things that you think SHOULD sell and then they don't? If you figure out how you got there, we can maybe help you get back, but we need clues.
  23. ... which may be the default.

    Cost:

rare salvage + crafting cost + transaction fee
    3 + 0.5 + 0.5 = 4 million

    Profit:

    less than 1 million

He might make more just selling the recipe and running a mission instead of crafting.
If you're buying the rare salvage in advance (and usually in bulk- why not buy six if you're leaving the bid up), you can get it for more like 2.2 million.

But I agree that 5 million for something that requires a rare is not a particularly good price. I have a few things that I sell as space fillers [basically, the equivalent of generic IO's but with ten times the profit] and some of them sell for 2-5 million, but they don't require rare salvage. The ones I sell which need rare salvage sell for 8-10 million.
