Dark/Dark defenders are a little slow soloing, but very effective and safe, and contribute tremendously on teams. (So are rad/rad, but I think Dark Blast is a little ahead on AOE.)
-
... how about if the scrapper needs to run Tough to survive, while the Tanker can survive with just his unmodified defenses?
The problem with simple models is making sure you ignore the right things. -
Don't worry too much about being able to "trick them out". I can do so at level 32-ish for a few million. I can make that few million very easily at Wentworth's, which is full of inf because people with several hundred million don't care if they drop a few hundred K extra. If you want guides, the Market section is full of them. . . but it's embarassingly easy to make a million or two extra.
As to the choices: I prefer fire/ice, because ice/ice has so many defensive tricks that is is possible to spend all your time holding, slowing, and annoying people- and none of your time actually doing damage. Fire can do both AOE and single-target damage exceptionally well, but where Ice pulls ahead is that every attack slows the enemy, and that translates directly into increased lifetime.
Either way, welcome to City of Heroes, and hope you have fun! -
I recommend two warning shots- first time in a PM, second time in teamchat.
If you suspect they're dualboxing, which it sounds like they were, sending a /tell to their "friend" saying 'Is it me or is xxxx just afk with autoheal on? Is he normally like that?' might help. -
I liked the good old days, when 'high level' meant you stopped seeing the old guys forever. None of this "level 53 council and CoT forever" bullchunks. There weren't any easy fights any more. If you got to 50, you got there fighting in the big leagues.
... I'm alone in this, aren't I?
On topic, there have been a few tweaks upward to just about every badguy group. CoT got nervas, Council replaced 5th, Rikti got gunswords... the Malta Group has finally gotten equipment upgrades. Bring them, say I. -
When the going gets tough, I keep going back to my Force Field defenders. Why?
It makes the Statesman's Task Force into a low-stress encounter.
We beat the Sewer Trial on the first try.
The Honoree is really not such a bad guy once you hang out with him a while.
What can I say? I like slacking, I like being tremendously useful, and I can do both at once here. -

I could care less

Man, that brings me back to about 1988... and the discussions about whether you "could care less, but not easily" and the like. -
I know it, Minotaur. I've seen it. I've bought it from you.

Yeah, I play in a mature SG. . . "Man, my back hurts." "AFK, kid needs glass of water." "Sorry I'm late, I was in meetings."

Depends on what you want to do.
If you want to "frankenslot" [nearly as cheap as SO's, way more efficient] you're probably best off with Capt. Canadian's guide ( here ).
My guide in sig is old and creaky but covers much the same territory.
If you want help with a level 50 money-is-no-object crazy high powered build, you should probably go to the specific boards.
I keep thinking of putting together a three-level guide. Cheap, "medium" and crazy expensive. Then I keep not doing it. I have a medium example, of all places, here. -
Sorry for the ambiguity. I am not, in fact, ignoring FireWyvern.

A saint. You are a saint, Lavitae.
All you need now is to be martyred horribly! -
Most of what I have to say has already been said... but here I go anyway.
TANKING: I think of the first 18 or so levels of Tanking as the "Die for your team" levels. You're paying your dues. After a certain point you just sort of... stop dying, unless something really exotic comes along. (around level 38, probably.)
SALVAGE AND RECIPES: Your first time through the game, you will probably be working on your basic ("don't run sprint in combat") and advanced ("jump over the badguys so that their cone effects don't hit your teammates") skills, and you may not want one more level of complexity. You can think of salvage and recipes, in this case, as "the stuff that makes you rich." If you sell them all for 1 inf at Wentworth's, you will have a lot more money than you need for your dual-origin and single-origin enhancements. NOTE: This will give a lot of people great bargains. But that's OK because you will have more money than you need FOR SO'S ONLY.
If you decide to go with Invention Origin shinies, you do NOT want to sell everything for 1 inf at Wentworth's. You will have to learn what things are worth and how to make money, most likely. Fortunately it's really easy- the Market forum has a bunch of guides on the topic. Influence flows like water in this game if you put like two hours into learning about it.
SERVERS: "The question behind the question" as a guy I worked with used to say, is "how can I get good teams and lots of them?" Using /search to find people helps. Going to high-population servers helps. Using your "LFT" flag helps. Joining a supergroup helps (but unlike other games, it's not absolutely necessary to be in a SG.) But the thing that helps me the most is: join a lot of bad teams. Form a lot of bad teams. And when you find good people on bad teams, people who are helpful and skilled, right click on them and add them to your friends list. You can ask them to be "global friends"- you can keep track of them no matter what character they're playing- but they may say no, for any number of reasons possibly having nothing to do with you.
Welcome to Paragon City! Have fun, and keep asking questions ! I love to hear myself talk. -
Mature as in "established?"
Mature as in "grown-ups?"
Mature as in "R-rated?" -
EDITED: I am an idiot, and the Real Numbers in game answered my question. Move along, citizen.
-
I don't know about that.
Blasters have absolutely insane damage output. Unfortunately, due to their "Attack primary, attack secondary" they also frequently have insane damage INPUT. Be aware that it's a risky job.
Defenders, much less so on both the output and the input. -
Welcome to Force Fields. I suppose it is possible to be a Force Fielder and not run Dispersion Bubble, but I've never seen it.
Force Bubble, on the other hand, I would say is very much optional. -

Smurphy, if you're new here, is the creator of the phrase "I don't roll around in my money. I pay someone to roll me around in my money." He can well afford to take that position, or in fact any other.
-
when starting out, I'd recommend teaming a Blaster with "Anything but..." You can team a Blaster with anything, if you're both good. On the other hand, people who are good can play Scrappers on invincible without using any powers from their secondary, so "if you're good" is kind of a cop-out.
I'd avoid a duo of Blaster + Kinetic, because Kin provides far more offense than defense and as a Blaster, you kinda could use the defense.
I'd avoid a duo of Blaster + Scrapper, because the Scrapper doesn't do much of anything but damage, and Blasters do enough damage that the aggro will pretty much go to you, unless you throttle your damage down. In which case why play a blaster?
Anything else pretty much works. Blaster +Tank? Great. Blaster + Defender? Great. Blaster + Controller? Great. Blaster + Other Blaster? Good, but a little nerve-wracking. -
... nobody's complained about a lack of pool C lately? Just sayin'.

I've seen several folks who have claimed they made tens or hundreds of millions by simply crafting memorized common IOs. It's always struck me as a bit iffy because it's common to have crafters or folks doing respecs dump common IOs on the market below cost.
[/ QUOTE ]
As one of those people, I can say that it's true. A crafter dumps twenty of something- they only have twenty slots or so- but a hundred a day move through Wentworth's.
Not to mention that people with hundreds of millions look at a "last 5" of 300K and just throw down the money and grab one. I know because I raised my prices from 140K to 190K when people went crazy during the AE farming. Most of my actual sales were at 300-400K, meaning people didn't even TRY the 200K price point.
I guess the summary for the OP is "there's a ridiculous amount of inf in this game." It was 3 trillion before the IO system hit, with nothing to spend it on... now it's considerably more than that and people spend it by the 100 million. -
There's been a request to sell me more Pool C/D recipes. I totally lost track of pricing with all the ticket floods and whatnot. Also, I lost the link to the spreadsheet when I swapped computers.
Any idea what an "Average" Pool C/D is going for these days? -

Hmm, after reading all of the posts, I'm left wondering something. What do your SG members get out of being in your SG? How does it benefit them? What are you doing for them?
All I've seen is talk about getting your ranking up, and it seems like your SG members are just tools to get you there, instead of people you actually like/respect and enjoy playing with.

My guess is "A bunch of teleporters and a medstation". There may be some open chests full of generic IO's, or there may not.
Building generic IO's for your SGmates is definitely a good idea.
Edited to say: not everyone who plays the game is good at, or cares about, making inf. Helping those people out is not really bribery in my brain. So I don't see this as "Bribing people for prestige" but as "helping out your mates." By all means DO help your SGmates out, with time, inf, and knowledge.
