  1. One of the many things that is not obvious...

Set bonuses, etc., are expressed in terms of natural regeneration. You naturally regenerate 100% of your health in 4 minutes, so a 10% benefit would get you back 10% of a full hit point bar in 4 minutes.

"Real Numbers" give % per second.

    Totally different units, non-intuitive.
  2. Interesting question for Stillhart: How many people would you have to convert to your thinking for the guide to be "worth it" to you? One? Five? All?
  3. Someone named this sort of thing "Flopping." It actually increases the supply of cheap salvage, which allows other people to do more "fun stuff." I believe the Devs are in favor of more fun for more people.

Tendentious, irrelevant story: When ED hit, I sent a tell to CuppaJo saying something like, "You know that [some 2-person combo] will be just as tough as [some individual build] was?" She went, "Oh... I'll look into it." At some point I decided, with no feedback, that "two people playing together to become uber" was something they wanted to encourage, because it was social and more interesting than "one person who doesn't need you, but is letting you tag along to increase spawn size."

So my view is "more fun, more social, more good= encouraged."
  4. Aura: I recommend starting with a couple small items and see if it gives you the "I'm in the money!" feeling when it sells. My classic "first one's free" is a level 30 Karma: Def/End. It used to [everything changes] cost under half a million to buy everything and craft it, and sell for about two million.

It's a simple positive-reinforcement loop. If you like it, you'll do it again. If you don't, you won't.

As games go, The Market is a very easy one.

    4) I heavily favor taxing the rich, in RL and in the game. Why? Because they can afford to pay it pure and simple.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Interesting parallelism. So you favor taking the inf earned at wentworth's and putting it into... better roads? Education? What exactly are we getting for these increased taxes in game?

... or is the point in RL not so much that we could spend their money, but that they would not have it?

    I'm curious.
  6. There's a considerable amount of emotional investment involved in people's antimarket stances. Also, many people are bad at math and don't trust it.

I've been thinking about making a defensive marketing guide, something like "how to avoid making me rich" , but my current belief is that my target audience would rather spit on me than listen to anything I have to say. I may let optimism sway me at some point.
  7. Two things.

First, the way the return strike works, I believe, is not QUITE as described by Milady's Knight. If you miss, they know as soon as you start the attack (as mentioned). If you hit, however, they only know after the damage lands. Otherwise I'd pretty much die every time I stealthed in and started Nova.

    Second:
TL/DR: You get +2s to 4-10% END with Power Boost, Short Circuit, Ball Lightning and a lot of slotting, and you might survive long enough to run them out of endurance. +1s and 0's will get only an alpha off. If that. It's not *quite* binary.

enemies resistances to end drain scale up as you are fighting higher level enemies

    [/ QUOTE ]

Repeating this because it is important. 110% against an even-con would be 88% against a +2.

As mentioned by Rejolt, that 12% would be all the endurance they get for the next 10 seconds or so. Once upon a time Arcanaville calculated how much END it takes for an enemy to kill you. I saved that post... and it's monstrously complex.

If I'm reading it right, +2 minions with 12% of their END left (12 points) would hit 60% of the time, for 122% of "standard" damage, so a level 52 minion hitting a level 50 blaster with 12% of their END bar would do 73% of, umm, 17.21 damage per END point.

So they'd run out after doing 150 HP of damage to you, roughly.

A lieutenant would hit a little more (67.5%), hit a little harder (23 HP per End on a hit, times 1.22), and have 50% more Endurance left (they start with 150 End and end up with 18) So that lieut, if my math is right, is doing 341 HP before running out of endurance.

And a boss will probably kill you- more endurance, more damage per endurance, and a better chance to hit.

If you have a big spawn you will end up taking quite a lot of damage, anyway.

My "110% End Drain" number, before I do any more math, was a bad one. It's more than you can get from powerboosted SC alone, and less than you get from powerboosted Short Circuit/Ball Lightning. So assuming you do the "leap out and Lightning" trick, and pull it off, you would actually get 97.2% + 15% or 112.2%. So they have about 10% of their Endurance left instead of 12%. (more if they have any energy resistance.) And you could get *up to* another 7.5% through careful slotting of EndMod sets, leaving them around 5% end remaining.

I don't think anything changes in the badguy scaling from level 35 on, so if it works at 50 I believe it will work at 35.

(my recommended slotting for Ball Lightning would be something like two Acc/Endmod, one Endmod, three Damage. At level 35 that would get you around +82% End Drain . You would want to frankenslot Short Circuit for a ton of recharge, plus a little acc, plus a ton of End Drain and maybe a little damage if you can fit it.)

I'd recommend filling your "Friends" list with other elec blasters and /elec defenders and stomping 'em into wine that way.

    Purple farm

I haven't personally gotten a purple from a sub-50 critter, but a friend of mine did. I know, not admissible in a court of law, you get more urban legends that way, etc. but it's the best I have.
  9. If nothing else, get it to level 22. Our friends refer to 21 as "level suck" for a reason.

[I'm not a fire/dev person myself, but then I don't like, for instance, salad dressing. This is why I don't make the rules.)
  10. I think I hit on most of those points in Point 3- briefly, but then it's a short guide.

I may have gone a little light on secondary effects, though. Lemme see if I can add that in briefly.
  11. PunkRolex: At least two of the things on your "Things I hate" list have been essentially destroyed. (Outleveling content and PVP.) You may wish to update your list.

... on the other hand, still mad at ED four years later, you might be someone who holds a grudge.
  12. Have you tried the traditional "take four Lucks, when they run out take four more, when they run out take four more" approach to the Elite Boss problem?
  13. The arachnos map thing is well-known, has been happening to everyone at all times since they put those maps in. The whole team, pretty much, lags at the same time.

    My problem wasn't that.
  14. Onion-worthy headline there...

"Arachnos Employee Is Secretly A Jerk"
  15. Thanks to Mids for the tool, and good luck with the 3-dimensional world stuff!
  16. ... where do you find that many buffers that actually use their powers, Cavatina? I want some.

... but Build Up, Aim, Inferno comes pretty close for me.
  18. I've been angrily kicking a level 19 Dark/Rad corr through the teen levels over the last few days. So while /rad is better, it still does not meet my standards, apparently. Maybe I'm spoiled and finally joining the "power through to 22" club. Hope not.

    End game in CoX?

There's considerable difference in playstyle between different character types.

There's considerable difference in playstyle between different sizes and shapes of team.

So I'm a big fan of "Go back and do it again." (It took me over three years after introduction to start really hitting redside hard.)

Also, with Architect Entertainment, there's way more content than anyone can use. Unfortunately the filtering is not quite there yet, and there are several axes of "oops" that can happen when building a mission.
  20. It was tremendous and spectacular.

Before the GDN/ED/target caps, people could literally herd up several hundred enemies into a dumpster and have a friend kill 95% of them with one Inferno. [And then, of course, die from the return fire.] Because level 41-50 took about as long as 1-40 back then, and the whole trip was around 400 hours, people were looking to save time and you got nothing but "herd the whole map and nuke" teams.

Between the two changes, some Tanks became, like, twenty times easier to kill. I had friends actually leave, because it was not even remotely the same game.

I would not have been surprised if someone had driven to the actual game developers' studio and they had to call the cops on em.
  21. The sun emits deadly radiation. Just saying.
  22. OK, my current explanation is "some precursor to the power supply failing AGAIN."

When I have the computer running again, I'll repost if it's still a problem. . .

I once heard of someone who made 3 random rolls and got one each of the Big 3. I was insanely jealous because that kind of thing never happens to me.

    [/ QUOTE ]
I've also heard of someone who made 16 random rolls, sold them to me at a pre-agreed price, and almost none of them were worth a damn thing. Minotaur warned me he had no luck with the random roll table. . . I didn't listen.

To steal a line from Ego's Shadow, random roll is random. A while back, level 30 Karma -KB IO's were selling for a lot more than level 11-29 ones, and in fact were a better use of merits than any of the big 3. Then the market went insane for a while and I have no idea if that's currently a good investment of merits or not.
  24. Like it says. I'm trying to write a bunch of mini-guides, aka "that post I keep writing over and over."

I did one on blasting for new kids.

did I leave out anything painfully obvious?
  25. Weren't we just talking about trying to destroy inf in the other thread?

... I know, none of us want to destroy OUR inf.
